  1. Ok just a quick one but are we going to get multiple pistol options?

And if yes, can we please have a Mauser C96 option?

    PLEASE!

    Thankyou In Advance.

I disagree with everything in your post except perhaps this statement: AE doesnt count, 99% of those arcs are crap and you know it. But if the Dev's would be brave enough to give the AE a much needed oil change you'd find things improve dramatically. The Guest arcs have been fun and some more Dev's choices work well.

Re: the new zones vs revamps, this is what I would love. I would give a great deal for Paragon Studios to hire a small team whose SOLE purpose is to go back and revamp the earlier stuff to bring it up to speed with the later editions - whether it's making ALL the contacts 'phone in' the way the new contacts pop up, reworking earlier missions to give them the 'oomph' that some of the later ones have, and adding new content to underutilized zones (Dark Astoria, Faultline, the Shadow Shard, the Fab, etc).

If I win the $80M Powerball this Saturday, I will fly to PS's offices, and HAND you guys a $2M check to cover the first year's salaries for the folks you'd have to hire. How much would it cost? (I don't know what the writers get paid, or how much it would cost for BAB to get a subordinate or two to help animate the stuff. $50k/year per writer? $60k?)

I think in an odd way you've just highlighted what's so great about this game: There's SO MUCH content that sometimes we vets forget (or ignore) the stuff that we have subconciously selected out. But as a new player there's a shed-load of stuff to do. Sure some of it does show it's age to old-timers maybe but if you could put yourself in the shoes of a newbie I doubt you'd notice that so much.

Especially blue side there are so many different paths to 50 that you don't need to cross contacts a few times, and with Ouro, there's a chance to go back and do the stuff (that is often surprisingly good) that you missed.

What maybe some of the doom-mongers are griping is that there's no new content just for them. But then I mostly find forums pretty toxic places these days and often people post vitriol at the expense of reason.

But what right do we have to travel to another dimension to tell them how thier government must be run? We are the city that produced Mayor "Spanky" Robinowitz for goodness' sake.
I'm not trying to crush your dreams of reliving WWII fantasies of joining the French Resistance and being the one who removed that dictator from power.

Our job here is not done.
We can't abandon our city to fight over there.
Giant Monsters wander our ports, our sewers and even our city parks.
Despite all our best efforts, the Hamidon is barely pushed back to a stalemate.
The Rikti are somewhat contained in the RWZ, but occasionally stream forth to fall from the skies like hail.
Our citizens are still getting mugged on the streets and thugs from the Rogue Isles still infiltrate our city to rob our banks and cause general mayhem before slinking off into the night.

If we get involved over there and fail, we will start an interdimensional war that we cannot afford.
But let's say that you do succeed over there? Who is going to rule? What system are we going to set up? They will probably end up with chaos, and have the strongest rogue claw his way up to being the next Emperor Cole.
Yes, I guess you can call me an Isolationist.
Awesome Possum, Hero of the City.
    Well said.

The Rikti invade constantly and Zombies abound.

We go to Praetoria and Nemesis, Malta and who knows who else move in in our wake. Bet they get to take over the Isles too.

    Put simply:

The marketing people behind the game are not a patch [sic] on the developers.

Great product but nobody out there knows about it.

Giving Dark Astoria an epic Magical Apocolypse style series of storylines, ones which could also explain the randomness that it the Halloween events and making it co-op is something I'd love to see happen (I know some people hate co-op zones although with GR basically being "Everything becomes co-operable" it seems the way to go to me).
    Good plan.

I think Boomtown and DA are both well overdue and highly deserving of revamps - there's a lot could be done with them. and two of the three revamps we've had so far were excellent (I'm neutral about the Hollows personally but that's simply opinion - it certainly does seem to be a bit more active than it was old school.)

Those PLUS GR would give the entire game a very fresh feel even for world weary GOB's like me
  8. Interesting.

I'm getting three things out of this:

The original articles are negative, rumour, spin and general shouting off from people who spread rumour, spin and general guff for a living. Lesson one: Don't trust journalists. They lie for a living. (Actually the journo's tend not to, it's the editors that do.)

The rebuttal makes a lot of sense given the user experience (ie me) since CO went live. There was a dip in numbers and now we're back to normal perhaps doing even better than most of 2k9 but execs are also known to lie through their back teeth and no exec in his right mind would ever say "yes, our product's failing miserably, and we're going to can it in the next 12 months."

The last, and most important part is simply this: The CoH franchise is profitable. If it wasn't, NCsoft woudln't have made the heavy investement in buying the IP from Cryptic. They could have canned the game there and then but they know it's a money spinner. It will only ever be endangered if it fails to make money. There is an alternative scenario not discussed: If the CoH franchise doesn't make enough to suit NCsoft globally they might well hive off the operation in a buy out - effectively selling Paragon Studios to a third party. They could do this with CoH where they couldn'twith TR because a) nobody would've wanted TR as a product - it was pretty toxic before it even launched and b)CoH has a proven track record of profitability.
  9. Makes sense now. Thanks guys
  10. ok so I'm in RWZ on my WS, and I knocked a couple of doors
    I got the following messages:

    You received Respite
    You received Respite
    You received Respite
You received PPD SWAT Officer Costume
    You received Enrage
Congratulations! You received the Fashionable Badge
    You received Catch a Breath
    You received Coralax Minion Costume

ok here's the thing: The Swat cossie was on one door, and the the followind Enrage and badge on a different door entirely.

Even odder, I only have 8 different temp cossie powers.

    WAI?
  11. Really really enjoying the look of this.

    Two questions tho:
    1) Can we slot for speed?
    2) When does it go live?
  12. Doesn't look right to me. Looks like it's got jumbled

Deep in the mists of time, Johnny Kidd and Roger Daltrey are the first names who spring to mind when I try and think of English rock singers who have an "English Rock Voice" - punk/new wave re-established English accents as rock vocals later, but I think it's probably a style/trend thing.

The English pop and rock industry aped the likes of Elvis, Pat Boone et al in the early sixties (Cliff Richard started as one of the many "British Elvis" types, and Adam Faith's early career was based on impersonating Buddy Holly's vocal style, for example).

People like Jagger and Lennon are kind of mid-Atlantic, I guess, which is only to be expected, given their influences, which also explains why Ray Davies and Steve Marriot could sing like Americans on bluesy/rock songs, but slip into very English on non-traditional numbers.

From your examples, Westley, I'd probably go with the Corrs and ONJ drawing their style from Country, and the Bee Gees started out in the tradition of US vocal harmony groups. U2 have always aspired to be stadium rockers, but Bono and Elton John have both become much more "TransAtlantic" in their phrasing and accent as they've become older and settled more snugly into the American genre.

It's all a part of the homogenization of mainstream rock and pop. The "MOR"ing of international pop has an American accent, I'm afraid - it's what the Spice Girls were told to do when they were created, and it's just gone on and on from there. English used to be a common accent for rock and pop (Noddy Holder! Suggs! Ian Dury!) but is much less so in the mainstream now, not least because these days Simon Cowell has everyone singing power ballads, which means likes of Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke all have to sound like Mariah Carey

Bit selective old son. Tommy Steele sounded terribly English when he was copying Bill Haley's style and went even more cockney after he drew a line under the rock 'n' roll stuff.

The OP forgets to mention one thing: Much of the American accent is heavily influenced by the influx of other accents - and Irish is one of the biggest influences on that (as it is in the UK) so therefore there's a kind of double edged force for change there.

Accents also change over time - listen to old newsreels and you'll notice a much stronger divide between English and American accents - although regional accents can still be very strong - there's definitely a convergence brought on largely by American TV and film culture.

How many slots can you have?
  18. Scarlet Shocker

    Can we keep it?

I'm really enjoying the Halloween events but I do think the appocalypse should be kept for Halloween only. In 12 months time it will be good to get it back but if we have it continue through the year it'll be "meh."

I do love zone events, like the Rikti invasions - it's not just the badge for me, it's the fact that you do get a sense of adventure and pressure and I'd love to see more variations on a theme. However others have made the point that if you're on a street hunt for a TF then to have a zone event right where you need to be is incredibly frustrating.
  19. Just "wow"

I'm amazed at how much ********'s going on about Free Stuff!

Remember guys Vet Rewards are an extra. There's no obligation for their provision and they are designed to fit in with the game. Sure, some aren't exactly setting the world on fire, but some are very very good - but I genuinely believe that for the most part the rewards sit nicely on the line of a free jolly without imbalancing the game (which is after all, their point.)

No, you - like me - won't get every vet reward going. Life's like that. To quote Sir Mick "You can't always get what you want." To suggest that VRs should be halted just so you can get them is selfish at best.

I certainly don't wish to deprive my colleagues of their VRs simply because I won't achieve them all. Where would it stop? All the other badges? Should we award the Passport badge to those who shouldn't get it?

To those who are screaming "I want" I say "get a grip!"

If you choose to limit yourself to playing on one server that's your problem not the devs. Your account has 132 slots It's not the devs fault you choose not to use them all. As to losing a name you can easily check each server to see if a name is available before doing a transfer.

Of my 165 characters, 45 of them are on my main server. Like many loyal players I have multiple accounts. I know people here on the foums with 4 to 5 accounts. Nothings stopping you from doing the same.
My account doesn't have nearly that many.

Proof, if ever it was needed, that us in the EU are unequal in the eyes of the Devs
  21. Thanks for the feedback guys

This is my secondary build. My primary is pretty effective, so it's not critical in that I've got a good build to resort to, but I tend to blap a bit and I don't have many melee attacks in my primary.

One of my biggest problems is that I struggle using Mids. I've always been a "seat of pants" kind of player so getting the best out of the build isn't always easy.

I've also never been sure how Hami O's work but thanks for clarifying Jets

One final note: I much prefer hover/fly for thematic reasons but I like the basics of what you've got there Streets
  22. I'd say decide what you want to be first. Elec/Elec/Elec is a lot of fun but can go three ways, depending on how you slot. It can be a pretty straight forward blaster, or it can be a good blaptroller, or it can make an excellent Sapper.

Of the three, the third is my preference, and can be very effective on anything up to and including EBs.

If you take Elec as an epic pool too you'll get three excellent holds and a good immob but you'll probably be weak in melee damage.

Of all the blaster sets it's probably the hardest to fine tune but is very rewarding - but you're DPS isn't going to be as high as most other blaster types out of the box. Then again, it doesn't need to be.

Q: "What do you call an EB with no endurance?"

A: "Anything you like, he can't do much about it!"
  23. Ok here's an idea I had for my main's 2nd build. This is for Scarlet Shocker and the idea is to give her as much defence/resist as possible.

I'm not good with Mids and I'm not going for Purple sets (if some drop my way then so be it but I've only ever have 2 drop in all teh hours I play.)

    All (sensible) comments appreciated
