I think they are roughly comparable (and pretty strong) as mature powersets. Willpower has an easier time early on because of its endurance-providing power. Invulnerability is (IMHO) slightly stronger when equally slotted with late-game IOs, but it's still close. In my experience, the "psi hole" of Inv is indeed overstated; I rarely have any difficulty with it on a heavily-IOed 50 who routinely does all sorts of tough endgame content.
-
No, I was able to complete another mission just now, as you said. So I apparently did not accidentally complete the Council Empire mission.
-
Well, I tried this and I think it backfired on me.
My 50 Tanker had Unai Kemen's Council Empire mission (untimed) at 49. I abandoned it, hoping to speak to him again and get the mission at 50 this time. Didn't really need to, since I could set the 49 mission to +1, but it would save me some trips to the field analyst.
When I talked to him again (immediately), he gave me the timed Warwolves mission -- which, if I interpret the wiki on Unai Kemen correctly, is the next one in the series.
I tried abandoning it and talking to him again a few times, but kept getting it. Now it is counting down and I can't abandon it.
Am I out of luck on ever getting that Council Empire mission back? I don't believe it's available in Oroborous, even. -
Quote:Another problem is it would even further divorce the concept of a "character" who does and earns specific things from that of a "player" who has several characters."Wow, a Stone tank in Granite form NEVER dies, but I don't want to play the set before I can use Granite. Hmmm, I can just level as Willpower/Dark Melee and switch at level 34, so I can just jump into slotted Granite Armor."
People would do that kind of thing ALL the time. Leveling as one thing and switching to a late blooming set when the powers become available that make the set awesome.
That's just ONE problem, I'm sure there are many others.
It's been my observation that player interested in specific characters who invest time and effort into individualizing them (even if they don't roleplay) are statistically likelier to be around over the years than players who are solely obsessed with mechanical performance per hour. (Obviously that's a gross generalization and many players could be described as having both interests in varying proportions.)
IMHO, respeccing ATs or even just powersets within ATs would be bad for the game if handled perfectly -- and even worse if handled sloppily. -
Congratulations on all the badass Scrappers out there...I have a few myself.
But it's worth noting that an equivalently-well-built and well-played Tanker should be able to outlast all these uber Scrappers people are talking about. Sure, you can build and play a Scrapper that's tougher than a typical random Tanker, but that Scrapper is also tougher than a typical random Scrapper too -- it's the IOs and the player skill/knowledge that make the difference. Applying that same level of effort to a Tanker template with the higher caps and hit points will necessarily result in an even tougher character.
edit: what Grey Pilgrim said. -
Heh. There was a period when, for some unfathomable reason, lots of threads showed up about making specialized AV fighting builds using Willpower "because it's the best." I kept mentioning that if you look at Willpower, it doesn't have any particular synergy against strong single targets. I don't know why people made some kind of big deal about it. At least one person agrees with me.

It's Invincibility, technically, and I posted here that the power visual effect seems to be missing. It was missing for about 3 months after Power Customization debuted, and it was fixed in a patch. It's unfixed again.
-
If I have a mission I got at a previous level, but I'm still within the contact's level range, can I abandon it, and by talking to the contact get it again, but it will now be my current level?
Does it make a difference if it's a mission in a story arc instead of a non-arc mission? -
I vaguely recall reading that it's only the Clockwork pet who does these emotes, not the other vet pets.
-
Extra credit if the Devs fix it and code it to say "Oh HELL no!" in Will Smith's voice every time it resists being changed.
-
Okay, so, Issue 17 broke all power fx in slots beyond the first (slot 0). I waited patiently for what felt like a long time for some kind of official word on whether this global bug would be fixed or whether we should manually fix each power on each costume of each character. Finally I got a hint in the patch notes -- apparently the extra costume tokens mean we're on our own to go fix eah power effect...over and over.
Okay, fine.
So I roll out the first character to do so -- discovering incidentally his costume parts have become outdated (or whatever it is when they default to baseline tights and shiny gloves and boots) -- but that's okay too, I can fix that manually on the same costume token.
And while adding power customization to this guy, I discover Invincibility does not show visual effects any more. See here and here for previous discussions of the last time this happened (which they did fix...eventually).
But the last time Invinicbility's VFX were broken, it took about 3 months for a fix.
Can we get the fix rolled out again, please? I want my shiny rays! -
Quote:Well, I might need help. I'm not terribly computer-savvy, but I downloaded what I think are the most current drivers for my video and sound. The video driver(s) I downloaded from here:Sailboat, your video and sound drivers are rather out of date. I'd suggest updating them. Also, it looks like you are on wireless. There have been reports of folks on wireless connections having various issues. That might be a contributing factor. Using a wired connection if possible might help.
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
The sound driver(s) I downloaded from here:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/...&GetDown=false
Both downloads required setup and install shield and ran for a while and I rebooted.
After rebooting, I NOW see a strange icon in my taskbar. The tooltip calls it BDARemote.
Worried because that sounded like a remote-access hack, I hit ctrl-alt-delete to bring up the Task Manager. Task Manager comes up, but I can ONLY see the "tasks" now, not the processes. I thought I'd look for a suspicious-looking process with a name like BDARemote and try to remnove it from startup (I'd have to fiddle to figure out how to do even that) biut since I can no longer see the processes, I can't.
I can right-click the BDARemote icon and I get one option: exit.
Did I do something bad? What is this thing, why do I have it, why does the Task Manager behave differently now? Should I remove it? How can I?
Thanks, and sorry to be a pain, I did try to get the drivers all by myself without hand-holding. -
Definitely having this. Looks like some lines of text describing bonuses are appearing and disappearing rapidly, bumping the rest of the text up and down when they do.
Even if it's "su[[psed" to happen (for example, because the bonuses really are adding in and vanishing quickly, and it accurately reflects that) it still makes most of the display unreadable as it jumps around. -

I used it for the stories quite a bit, but I've cut back on that lately mostly for reasons unrelated to the AE itself.
1) I have had shorter blocks of time to play, and when I do play, I am subject to interruptions both real-world and from in-game friends, making following a dedicated storyline tougher
2) I've been pulling old, pre-Invention characters out of retirement and rebuilding them with IO sets. This takes an amazing amount of time for some reason. I have finally made enough money to proceed with the shopping, but I'm too cheap to pay the "buy it nao" prices and so I bargain hunt and pore over the lists and lay trap bids that sometimes take weeks to fill if they fill at all. I've stopped buying rare salvage too, at least the ones that have spiked to over 3 million, and I do use Architect to generate tickets for those.
My loading screens are long, and they're even worse with I-17. While this doesn't impact AE specifically, it does mean that the process of checking market/checking vault/using base crafting table/tossing in base racks/loging out/logging in new character/zoning into base/ checking base racks/getting item/slotting item/zoning out of base takes a shocking amount of real-life time, sadly. Sometimes I get a tell from a friend and abandon the process to go play, meaning it sometimes takes me two or three evenings to craft and transfer a recipe.
3) I've started playing a lot more "hardcore" mode, where we delete our characters if defeated. Unknown AE missions are ridiculously dangerous for hardcore characters, and I'm not taking them in there. I've seen big ambush groups of bosses with Headsplitter, resistance debuffs, and Build Up running around in those things. *shudder*
I plan to go back to "creative" AE missions sooner or later, just being pulled in different directions right now. -

That's tonight! I'll be there with bells* on!
*Actually, DOs. We ran a little last night and I got Djinni to level 12, so at last I can slot enhancements that'll help a little. I probably have enough cash to do it too, just barely.
Also I went ahead and used a poor man's respec (the alternate build) to drop Blazing Aura (as I had been pondering out loud). Couple of reasons behind the decision -- it was costing me a lot of endurance; I doubted I would have the slots to improve it much until later in the build anyway (defenses and some of the click powers are more urgent priorities) and, to be frank, the damage it was doing was iffy (granted, unslotted and very low level). The downside of this is that I will be less effective at attracting aggro away from fellow hardcore characters until I put it back into the build in the 20s. The upside of THAT is that I'm sort of fragile still, and attracting all the team's aggro is not always survivable until I get more defenses and better slotting. Hopefully we can thread the needle and keep everyone alive until this Tanker is strong enough (and same goes for the other baby Iron Eagles Tankers we've been raising). -
Ever see those documentaries about reef fish, where all the fish, large and small, line up and permit a cleaner wrasse to pick off their parasites?
Issue 17 has made things choppy for me when moving. I haven't tried turning down all the settings, mainly because I'm afraid I'd never remember what they all were if it didn't help.
I thought I'd try posting some info here and see if the resident wrasses can help me. Thank you in advance for your time and expertise.

Heres a slightly rejiggered build plan. Keep in mind that, unlike many builds we see on the forums, this is explicitly a leveling build; a lot of thought has gone into picking the powers at each level, since theres no room for error in Hardcore.
Ultimately I decided that the 70% s/l resistance Ill get with slotted Tough will do more to keep me alive than anything else, and it should be taken pretty much as soon as SOs are available. The biggest move was pushing Blazing Aura out to 26. I love damage auras, and theyre even more important when you skip Taunt, but in leveling up two builds Ive found its difficult to support the endurance cost of BA before Stamina, and early on, its damage is pretty small (its doing 4 or 6 at level 10 or so, unslotted). I took it as soon after SOs as I could, except for the two powers I find even more critical, Tough and Burn (which is my immobilize protection). I find myself teaming with Controllers a lot, which means Burns offensive potential can be leveraged, and if anyone could use the mitigation the avoid mechanic provides, its a low-defense Hardcore aggro-magnet. :P
How useful do you find Touch of Fear? It sounds like a good fit for my purposes (mitigation above all) and might be fun to play with, but I have no experience with it. I assume its not good enough to be worth displacing Soul Drain on the list. -
So far we've been meeting whenever we see each other on Global. :P But the tradition used to be Thursday evening and we've still tended to be more active then.
I will PM you. -
Quote:Is that fix on live yet? This is a training room thread, and I haven't noticed patch notes to this on live yet. If it's on live already, I guess I don't have room to complain about anything other than the communication.Do people need things spelled out for them? They fixed it so no more characters that had custom power colors would lose them when they logged in. Wouldn't it reasonably follow that it's ok to go ahead and fix yours that were affected without being told so?
Surely you have enough tokens laying around to do that. You really don't want a rollback...seriously. -
Quote:YEAH!You know, Devs could probably avoid this complaint by adding more Targetted AoE sets.
-
I had a smidgen of Toxic resistance available on Djinni, the Fire/Dark Tanker -- by using Healing Flames (20% Toxic res for 60 seconds, iirc, on a 40-second recharge -- and it's unenhanced at level 8/9). So I could start the fights with a bit of Toxic res at the cost of not having my Heal up for a scary 40 seconds. And if I spammed it, it would stack to 40% Toxic for 20 seconds or so out of every 60.
I decided to split the difference between heal and protection, and waited until I took about 1/4 damage from the alphas before hitting the heal, so I'd get some life back and still have the resistance for most of the fight. No idea if that was mathematically smart or not.
I also liberally applied purple and orange inspirations, and shared out a few greens here and there.
I definitely noticed some times when Ka Phoenix stayed in the thick of the fight throwing Transfusion despite a perilous life total. I only dropped down to about 1/3 of my life a few times -- we still had a margin of error!
One of the (few) good things about fighting Vazhilok is that you can sort of see disaster coming in slow motion, when a whole big bunch of them start shambling down the hall after a questionable pull. That gave me a moment to hit my inspires and check my ever-changing Toxic resist status just before the storm broke.
My favorite part occurred in a COT cave mission before we teamed up with T A A R N A and fought the Vazh. Ka Phoenix and Djinni were both partially-depleted in health and endurance (maybe down to 3/4 of each, not too bad) and I hit Consume, topping off my end, Healing Flames, topping off my health, and we both hit the boss, who fell over. The exp reward leveled up Ka Phoenix, topping off HIS bars too. Suddenly the sun came out from behind the clouds, birds were singing...well, you get the picture.
More danger lurks ahead for the Iron Eagles! -
Quote:I've always felt that "tanker" is something of a misnomer. In the military, tanks are offensive in their proper role -- they can be used defensively, but often it's a waste of their strategic potential. France had more, and better, tanks than Germany in 1940, and deployed them spread out across the front so everywhere they were attacked there were tanks defending...and look how well that worked for them.More than any other archetype, a good tankers REAL job is to give the team confidence.
It's entirely too late to change the usage, but I think "Anvil" might be a better term. Or "Anchor." Tankers are both an anvil for the enemies to beat against and an anchor for the team. -
And most of all, they need to announce whatever policy they do decide on. I could go fix, uh, scores of characters manually now, using costume tokens, but that's a HUGE waste if they rollback. Someone said a rollback would lose all the NEW stuff people have done since release...and while that's true, that's got to be less than aaaaaaaaaaaaall the customizations done in I16 when it was brand new and so many established characters used the new system. But whatever they decide, I wish they'd make a clear public announcement, so we're out of the limbo Issue 17 threw us into and can proceed.
