I did the first bit solo to unlock the alpha slot on two scrappers last week.

They need a respec at some point, I guess, to free up power slots currently used by fitness, but one was just SO'd, not terribly well spec'd, and still knocked it out.

Exactly. Have a rough raid, and people will ***** about it unto the ends of the earth...regardless of their understanding of "why" the raid was rough.

Have a couple rough raids in a row, turn-out drops...making the raids harder, and so on.

I think it's a useful exercise, so you keep your string of wins (and hence turn-out) up.

Ah! Light dawns on Marble Head...tyvm for clearing that up for me.

Old dogs and all that...oh well, if I don't commit two or three gross conceptual errors per day, I'm probably not trying hard enough to relearn the system. :/

Interesting. E'splains why those Touch of the Nictus were so cheap, lol. >.<

What's your Smite/MG slotting, and global rech, if you don't mind me asking?

Yah, pretty much have to be using a planner, and have an anal retentive streak if you're going to min/max IOs. Not to mention the pocketbook.
  5. Heya.

I'm specifically talking about golgis in clickie heals and nuc's in the DM set...

5 slotting sets in the right combinations, even cheap IO sets, seems to give me more acc/heal/dmg/rech/etc than 3/3 hammi/rech slotting.

The only advantage I can see to 3/3 slotting over non-purple IO set slotting is in examp'ing below 47 (where the non-Purple IO set bonuses shut down).

    **********************************

Given the above, I'm not sure why nuc's and golgi's still sell at the values they are on the market. Am I missing a slotting strategy that involves nuc's/golgi's for DM/Reg? Or are the prices still up because some of the other ATs like 'em a lot?

Had a GCE on how these "new" IO set bonuses work...starting to get it now. Thanks!
  7. I've got some combined hammis (endos/lysomes) that I'm likely not going to use. Is there a market for these on Justice (since I can't put them on the consignment house)? A trade channel or something?

    Thanks.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Be they bugs or intended, is this really a problem?

I think it would be great... nay, superb if Hamidon's AI and the strategies needed to defeat him/it were rendered obsolete every issue or two. As it stands now (err, as of I6 anyway), Hamidon is a joke. It's so boring to do. It's the same thing over and over and over. Revamping the encounter will keep it interesting. It should be done more often!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Revamp, great. Spectacular, actually...it would be like having all the Task Force missions and objectives change with each release. New content!!!!!

Simply buff Hammi & Mitos because it's 'too easy', though? Dumb as a box of rocks. Because, well, I'm now doing the Exact. Same. Things. But I have to do them better, more precise, with more people to have a chance to succeed. It doesn't make it more interesting for *me*....it simply makes it more tedious.

I dunno about you, but the more tedious a thing is, the less fun it is for me.

It wouldn't be so bad if the raid could be done with 8 to 16 people or so...those are teams one could build fairly quickly to try out new and wacky ideas that just might work....and come back and try again and again and again. But when it takes 32+ flippin' people in the zone to even begin to *attempt* to try something...

I mean, ****, we did all this for months before we learned strats that worked on Hammidon. If it's 'too easy' change the bloody encounter and challenge my creativity, my ingenuity, and my skill. As it stands, though, seems like I don't need a new tool, I just need a bigger flippin' hammer.

    Yours in Vexation,

Team Awesome: *slips into flame proof suit* I could care less who does or doesn't like TA. They are, easily, the friendliest and most entertaining people I have EVER met in an MMO, and I've played more of them then I can remember. On the boards, in game, they keep me laughing and will always get a team going for anything. Just good people, all of 'em.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    QFT!
  10. Who influenced you the most when you were first playing the game, and why?

Lord Griffon - In my 30s he taught me how to hunt Nemesis bosses in Crey's. "Load up on lucks, use one each spawn, keep 'em when they drop, when you're out of lucks, go get more...don't keep hunting without them, you're just asking for debt. Pop 3 if you're in trouble and you're a god. For 30 seconds."

The Confessor (never met, just read his posts) - Scrappers are not 't3h g1mp'; build and play to your strengths. Build synergies with your playstyle and remember those synergies.

MissInformed - This MMO can be an RPG. Loved her 'Who am I?' diary/posts on the boards when she first started, and followed her progress through King's Row with interest. Was tickled to find out she was on Justice.

Scrappy - Invited me to a Hammi attempt way before the first successful raid. I died repeatedly, of course, but it got me interested in raiding even during the 'hair brained' phase. Massed blaster snipes slotted for range. Crawling all over the zone looking for any odd spawns, buildings, or geographics that might relate to the Hammidon... "Oh, I found an opening I can tp through! It must *mean* something!"...of course it never did.

N'arlolth - Invited me into my first real SG, Underworld, and taught me to scrap (which I had previously *thought* I knew how to do...). Taught me to pay attention to not just my powers, but everyone else's on the team. "Turn off that fear thing, it's making them all run!" "Errr....Sable, Cloak of Fear is the only thing keeping us alive right now, lol."

Ghost Image - Showed me the Sewer Trial for the first time, which convinced me that my 'gimpy' stealth/teleport scrapper could be a lot of fun in TFs and Trials full of the usually more uber builds.

Mause 2.0 & pouncy - Being silly in game is fun! Macro/bind emotes are fun! Haven't seen them in over a year now, still have them on my friends list in case they ever logon to those characters again. "Ow! Quit it!" and "Fun fact: Mause 2.0 is now equipped with a full audio/visual suite. Fight crime without missing your favorite programs!"

Roral - The first person I ever really wanted to use the SK/Exemplar system with when it came out. Cost me two respecs, as I did the first one without considering exemplaring, then realized I didn't have a travel power at the levels he was at. What a n00b I was. The two of us trying to Shadow Maul and Raid of Fire our way through IP must have caused quite the chuckle for onlookers. We died. A *lot*. But had a lot of fun anyway. Another one I miss rather a bit.

BuffyASummers - Inspired me to do up my backgrounds in game; now, if I'm stalled out with a character I look at my background story and costume for inspiration rather than my power set. Showed me the difference between an homage and a ripoff. Was always fun to just be around; always was a thrill to see her passing by on the tram.

....and a cast of thousands. You know who you are; feel free to look me up in game even if we haven't chatted in a while.

    *******************

So....any person/event influence you in the game when you were first starting out?
  11. I'd be tickled with just a non-PvP Zone, non-Arena, non-Base Raid speed boost to Flight/Hover to make it worth 6 slotting again for flight speed.

    But that's just me.

When scrappers fly into scrapper zen it probably means they have learned the strengths of their teammates and have already predicted the outcome

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Very well described.

A ballet in which minute and not so minute changes in position, attack decisions, and power recycle times that just mesh.

One seems to be in the perfect place at the perfect time in front of the perfect mob with the perfect power for that mob.

It isn't unique to scrappers; I've seen Certified's En/En blapper fall into it too. Truly a glory to behold...one is left with the feeling of "Doh! Wish I'd made a movie of that!"
  13. Two thoughts.

    1) The OP is posting historical information to better capture the 'feel' of a fantasy reality, one in which we may combat classic villains. e.g. Leftover Nazi elements. Precedence is huge in the genre: Cpt America, Blackhawk, Wonder Woman, Hellboy, etc etc etc. and I applaud the OP for posting the source information. I submit that immersion is *the* biggest part of roleplay.

    2) I submit that debating the merits and flaws of capitalism and socialism (including 'who was what when') on an open gaming forum is both inappropriate and futile. At best, the original message of the OP is lost because the thread gets deleted. If one feels that strongly about the debate, and is interested in my own views on the topic(s), feel free to drop me a PM.

They do. Got Cold Warrior on my main last night after just a couple Cold Horde spawns.

    [ QUOTE ]
I don't think this is a balance issue, at it's core-at least, I don't think that Stalkers as-is are grossly unbalanced, and I'm not willing to say they're unbalanced at all 'til I've seen how things play out a bit more. I think this is an issue of style, and access.

The quick, brutal, one-shot style game naturally appeals to the kind of people who enjoy PvP the most. It's completely unforgiving-basically a series of manuevers to "get the drop" on your opponents and keep them from getting the drop on you. Stalkers are by far the best AT in this game for that playstyle, so naturally the people who enjoy that are playing Stalkers. They don't understand why people complain about being one-shotted. They don't object to it when it happens to them, so obviously anyone who does object is just whining.

People who have a more "casual" attitude towards PvP (at least in my experience) prefer fights with a little bit longer duration. They'd like to have a chance to use a wider variety of their powers, and would prefer to see more acts and counters in the actual fight, rather than in the buildup. They don't understand how anyone can get enjoyment from a 3 second fight-so obviously anyone who fights like that is an evil ganker who's only pleasure is to ruin everyone's day.

In truth, it's going to be awfully hard to satisfy both sides completely, but the PvP game as it plays right now is way to twitchy for me, whether I win or lose. I think that's true for the majority of players. Of course, we could just leave it to the people who enjoy it as it is. But in the long run if you want PvP to bve more than an awkward and little used appendage you're going to have to find some way to come to terms with the casual players who-face it-are the majority of this playerbase.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's IMHO, the best way this whole argument has ever been framed. ...Even as it's at odds with my own desires that AlphaStriking remain a viable tactic for a minority of encounters... But it highlights the fact that casual gamers are what really drives successful and entertaining PvP and Head-to-Head gaming... As proven by Counterstrike, Starcraft, and Battlefield.

The greatest PvP games have as many checks and balances set up as possible to ensure that most players can't just zip in and bypass the defenses and/or offenses of any other player. It's not the "1-shotting" that's the biggest problem, it's the ease at which it's being carried out that is continuing to drive casual gamers away from PvP.

...And YES! They ARE being driven away. I'm not talking about the Forum whiners here. I've spent too many hours to count in various PvP zones and have seen too many players already voice their discontent with being "unable to fight back" against so many of the cheap tactics being exploited in PvP. They do it in team chat, broadcast, and some even complain about it in PvE zones to discourage others from even trying PvP. It's the main reason that many AT's, both of the Villain and Hero factions stay out of PvP even though Castle and the devs have balanced team PvP to rely on those AT's also showing up to these zones. ...Masterminds and Dominators are the most noteable ones though in complaining about their defenses being bypassed instantly. So it's not just people facing Stalkers who are geting fed up with 5-second fights. ...You can't learn anything from a conflict when it ends before you've even realized it began.

Any PvP that doesn't give both players the opportunity to change the outcome of the fight, while the fight is happening will be loathed by the majority of players because the majority of players are not Quasons, they're not CircuitBoys, they're not Pilcrows(There's too many sucky illusion controllers out there as it is!), and they're certainly not _Castles_. They lack the creativity or raw math skills to narrow these issues down and figure out what "they're doing wrong". And yes Cryptic is Special, special in that they're never happy with the level of challenge they ask their players to face. But Cryptic is going to have to side with the carebears a little bit if all AT's are going to be welcome in PvP in order to support their design goal of having PvP built around Team vs Team matchups. You have to crawl before you can walk, just like most people solo for a while before they really get heavy into teaming.

And constant Insta-Gank is NOT solo-friendly ... thus it's discouraging the Teaming that PvP was built around.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Excellently summarized, both posts. Here are the root issues that need to be addressed.

    Two words: Ice Armor.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The ironic thing was that I was hoping that with my ice tank I could avoid all the nerfs regen was getting (and enjoying my suddenly stacky armors). If ice armor proves anything it's that any set, no matter how inadequate already, can be nerfed worse.

But then this is a +def tanker primary that can't stack the +def from ANY pool +def power with their armors. And lost about 70% of it's +def. Yay.

I wonder if this is why I find myself tooling around with Dash lately - at least he's more survivable. This is why I truly expect more nerfs in issue 6. My BS/Regen is sturdier than my ice tanker - withour without the Parry that, with only 2 slots added, outperforms an ice tanker's +def to melee attacks.

That and... he's still a fun character, with the again-needed freespec to make use of the nerfs. I dread i6.

    [/ QUOTE ]

See that was the problem. Too many of you followed that plan and the devs took notice. The Geko meter that that wicked man uses to take away our fun, noticed that a spike occurred in the Ice Tanker population.

That is not allowed. So nerf with ye.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Spot on. In i0, scrappahs in general were dah gimp...so, peeps that liked scrappahs adapted: they tried different builds, found righteous ones that worked, then they were fruitful and multipied.

    And were consequently gimped. :P

One must maintain the AT ratios, musent one?
  17. I remember when Marrow Snap was far and away the most dangerous Boss up into your early teens.

I remember when a missed TP meant a rollercoaster ride over half the zone if you didn't just give up and drop when you started to fall.

I remember when my contacts in PI always had a Ricti fan club right next to them.

I remember deleting characters at lvl 20+ because of poor power pics.

I remember the long, painful climb to 28 to get Instant Healing without Dull Pain or Reconstruction, because I couldn't fit them into my final build.

I remember people asking me "Why are you dying so much?" in the Synapse TF...and the same people asking me "Why aren't you dying?" in the Manticore TF

I remember the first time a 5th LT turned into a wolf...I about jumped out of my skin.

I remember the first time a Freak tank got...right...back...up after laying him out cold.

I remember the first time I was ambushed by Tsoo...while I was in the enhancements screen in front of my contact.

I remember being rez'd right in front of those same Tsoo seconds later by a wandering empath. And both of us ending up in the hospital.

And as been stated before, I too remember walking up to a Tsoo sorcerer and asking him if he wanted to team.
