Hmm, so does anyone have experience with purchasing said IO on the market? Any idea on average wait times when placing a 2 Billion bid?
(I'm at work, so I can't view market history at the moment to get a decent idea) -
Quote:Well, I think we have differing opinions. While A-Merits can keep you from depending on the market, they don't have to. Originally, I thought I'd go the A-Merit route to get the PVP IO because I didn't think I'd see a PVP IO that quickly if I put in a bid (after all, you can get 30 A-Merits in 20 days with enough persistence). But now that I've got them, I'm wondering how long I'd really have to wait if I placed in the bid.The entire point of rMerits and aMerits, in my opinion, is to get you something without having to depend on the market for it. That is, really, the entire point.
If you want to do the market proper, take 30 rolls and put the stuff up on the market instead. Also, it'd be really interesting to post here what you got on those 30 rolls, and how much it all sold for. Please?
P.S. Doesn't the 3% Def PvP IO cost 35 aMerits?
I know I could roll them all and go with what comes up. Granted, as long as the 150 rolls average 20 million in worth I'd make 3 billion from it. Of course, that's ignoring crafting fees. Or, I can sell the PVP IO and possibly make even more without waiting 30 days just to roll all my merits. But how long is the usual wait when going through the market? Because, you know, I want to have my cake and eat it, too.
P.S. I thought I saw it listed as 30 merits, but I could be wrong. But what's 5 more merits at this point? -
Well, the wish-granter granted the wish. It's HOW the wish gets granted that you can RP. IO out your Elec/ tank with plenty of +HP and at least 30% S/L Def, and you will be invincible.
-
...and I'm not sure which way I should go on this. Should I buy the PVP +3% Def IO and use it for myself, or should I purchase it, sell it for 3-3.5 billion off market and place a bid on the market and wait forever to see it go through?

Quote:Oh no, I caught the conversation. The OP seemed to focus his whole argument for hyperinflation on Rare and Desirable market items, while ignoring the whole market. Then FourSpeed makes an argument on TO/DO/SO items, as well as common IOs and other desirable items that have gone down on the market. THEN, you come in talking about the absurdity of bringing up TO/DO/SO items while ignoring the fallacy of the OPs statement and the validity of FourSpeeds other points.Just to clarify the conversation seeing as it looks like you missed it.
At this point, the only reasonable conclusion of your post and the accusatory tone it took would suggest that you support the OP's claim that inflation has indeed reach "hyper" proportions. Maybe I'm wrong, but you've done nothing to say otherwise and seem to be under the impression that FourSpeed has some kind of agenda to deceive others on the market in order to maintain some massive cover up. -
Go Elec/. You can get all the mez protection you need and skip grounded. You're going for a soft-cap build, so you'd be taking CJ anyway, which means you have immobilize covered.
Quote:While I get what you're saying, there aren't many times cars and large objects get thrown at you. While KB powers exist, there's always the fact that you can naturally be agile, thus, making it harder to knock you off your feet. Agility isn't a superpower.I don't care how utterly unbreakable you might be, having a body which can't be damaged does nothing to decrease your ability to be batted around like a pinball when somebody throws a car at your head...
I'd actually suggest getting 4 pts. of KB protection, for a more believable RP character. Yeah, you can stay on your feet, but when something with more mass than you comes your way and hits you, you're going to fall down. -
Quote:So, inflation should only be determined off of the prices of very rare items? Not the market as a whole? No worse than basing arguments on the price of undesired items that are available in infinite quantity.
I'm not even anywhere near "expert knowledge" of the inner workings of the market, but really, if I can make it work for me, anyone can make it work. If you're hung up on the prices of purples and PVP IOs, then go out and farm for them through the methods available. It's really not that hard. Or, do you simply prefer the dig-your-heels-in-the-ground-and-pout method? -
Quote:My DM/EA is soft capped to all but Psi as well. With the -to hit, he's even harder to hit. Honestly, it's very easy to soft cap EA without using up too many slot or sacrificing enhancement values. I can post the template that just shows what you need for defense, if you like. What's a good def to shoot for capping? S/L seems just barely doable, and I question how efficient it is for EA, since anything close to you is going end hungry quickly. Ranged seems to overlap with capped energy, though it's nice for psi.
Suggestions from the experienced? Thanks!
Overall, he was a fun Brute to play. -
Quote:Then read the responses in this thread. They've all given very good examples of how the inflation you're tunnel-visioning isn't across the board. You're just seeing it in sets that from the get-go, were meant to be hard to obtain. There's been some inflation, but nothing near "HYPER" inflation.id like to hear what people think and what they have experienced
Let's relate this to the real world. If the price of Gold skyrockets, but everything else (say things like food, appliances, clothes) all stayed the same in price, then you couldn't say the economy as a whole has hyperinflated. To say that would be ignorant, no? So, apply that to CoH. Most things are the same price, Purples and PVP's are crazy expensive (to some people). The only logical conclusion is that said items have more demand than they used to (and there's more inf in the game to buy it with - which is literally what inflation is). -
Quote:See, that's what I love about 7 years of experience. You guys know what we're thinking before we ask it.There is plenty of time before the Trial starts to set up strategies/communicate/talk about the weather, before you actually begin.
Since the UI shows both Siege and Nightstar's health bars (and you can click either health bar to immediately target them), coordinating the "10 seconds" shouldn't be a monumental task. Difficult? Possibly, but by no means impossible. -
-
Ok, so we have the Turnstyle method for forming Trial Leagues. Will there be enough time before everyone is loaded into the Trial for them to build a strategy?
10 Second windows for PUGs could be a bit much. On the bright side, if the large groups can split off evenly, whatever health is left on the other could be overcome pretty quickly with 14 players. -
Quote:What do you mean by casual player? To me, it's someone who doesn't have a lot of time to play games. Which means the market system ACTUALLY CATERS TO THEM in the example you gave. A casual player can play with the time they have available, and put bids up on the market when they log. It fits into their schedule quite well if they choose to use it accordingly.I, myself, understand that I can put low bids on common salvage, wait 24 hours, and usually have them filled but I think it limits a lot of lower level toons and more casual players from entering into the IO marketplace.
Quote:That's the problem, there aren't lowbies generating the stuff, because there exists a lack of lowbies, and the ones that do exist now level past the content at a high rate.
We already have the capability of getting uncommons and rares through tickets, and I haven't seen this monumental spike in SO dependency..........
The system works. You just refuse to let it work for you. -
I'm not a parent, but I thought it pretty cool seeing video games being shown in such a good light. Of course, it could just be that dads who spend time with their kids make their kids happy, no matter what they do.

Haz I bin scooped? -
Quote:I just recently slotted out the Cardiac boost. Before it, I would need to use Consume once every three to four groups. So it had plenty of time to recharge. After it, I've hardly used it that much. I'd still prefer to have it though for end-drain situations. I know you're mainly demon farming in AE, but the build works with a lot of other groups for Purple farming. You'll want Consume if you want more variety to your farming.@Rylas that build is awesome!!! And you are right because I dont have consume I pop alot of blues through out the farm, but because there are so many bad guys i either get the drops or just make them and keep on trucking. I love the increase in haste, that will help out alot. I have a question for you, I see you went the cardiac route for your incarnate, does that help out alot with your end? If so do you still use consume alot?
And thank you for replying, I really appreciate it.
I might try the Spiritual boost for the recharge. In which case, I'll need Consume more often. -
Quote:Wow, this post has been up a while without a response. Maybe it's because so many people swear up and down about SS/Fire, who knows. SS/Fire is great, but I've been having waaaay too much fun with my Elec/Fire, and it's completely usable for farming.Hi all im trying to upgrade my elec/fire brute to do farming. Below is the old build I am using that i found a while back. I would like to upgrade to i19 standards. If possible can anybody tweak this build or even post a better build. Again this will be strictly for farming AE fire mobs, maybe demon farm. If it can be done with out purples that would be great, if not I still will take it.
. Thank you soo much for your assistance.
If you're going to do AE fire-farming, then most anything you do will be fine since you're capped for the resist. Your build would do ok. But it's missing two key components. Consume (especially with the lack of end reduction you have) and Burn, which has been turned into a real demon with its latest buff (no more Fear!!). Take 'em.
Here's the build I have, which you may not consider "better" but the numbers are much stronger. While you seem to have gone for Melee and AoE, I've worked up S/L/E/N to 31.5% defense (still waiting to make my PVP Def IO), with better defense in other areas as well. And I've gained more recharge and +HP than you currently have. 55% Recharge to be exact. I'm melting away mobs at insane rates, and I still have a couple more LotG's to go. Once it's finished, it'll only be faster.
Not sure if you're aware of Fiery Embraces new buff, but it now increases all attacks equally, while also allowing you to get around ED caps (in a manner of speaking). Throwing out Energy and Fire damage all over the place reduces most mobs in seconds. I lead with BU+FE, Burn, Lightning Rod and clean up with Thunder Strike (if needed). The first group is done, and in the few seconds it takes to get another group around me, I can usually BU+Burn+LR again. With Hasten up, after the first two groups it's wash and repeat.
I know you said no purples, but the PVP IO is helpful (well, it will be when I get 30 A-Merits wrapped up). I don't even have it yet and I'm usually pretty safe in a +0 x8 setting.
Enough talk, here's the build.

Quote:So WRONG it's sad. They should be going for the Earth Mastery set for more controllery fun-time goodness. If you haven't done Dark Armor yet, I'd put my vote in for that. Dark/Ice could easily be one of the sturdiest tanks out there. Your enemies would all be flopping, held, stunned, or attacking so slow it wouldn't matter. Add the Arctic APP for even more -recharge.

Hmm... my knee-jerk reaction is, "You can't fix what ain't broke." But, my devil's-advocate side says, "Increase mid-level drop rates?" With all the end-game content generating so much at the top level without much to offer in the middle, it's gotten pretty dry for options. Sure, we can wait for it to balance out to normal when the new stuff gets played out, but I don't see that happening with all the continued support for end-game content.
Oh, and the inf-for-IO-level-shift sounds good too. -
-
Okay. It updated, and wouldn't let me into a server after logging in. Closing the game started another download. After that, I still can't log into a server after logging into the game.
[EDIT] Restarted the computer. It's fixing files now. Will see if that helps.
[MORE EDIT] Okay, restarting the PC and letting it fix the files worked. I can log into a server now. Seems to be the same problem from a couple of weeks ago. Sure would be nice if they fixed the updater. -
Quote:Weird. I was logged in about 2 hours ago. Logged out and came back just now to an update. My friend who hasn't been on all day is logging in now without an update.Thought we were having the publish *tomorrow*. It hit me tonight, and something's wrong with it.
First, had a 44MB update. Logged in, got to the server selection, but it logged me out when I tried to select any of the servers. Then a 182MB update hit. Now a 246MB update....
Anyone else getting this? -
I've been getting this problem, too. I thought it was because my workplace will block certain sites, but the boards will come back after a short period. I have no idea who the carrier for my workplace is.
Of course, I did notice it once last night at home, so maybe I should have pieced it together that there was an issue. -
Quote:Well, no one's saying anything about the 81 month badge. Maybe because it's a very good Vet Reward. Maybe because no one wants it. Who knows?I have the feeling that virtually every new top-end Vet award that comes out from now on is going to have to run this gauntlet of constructive criticism to "justify itself" as a Vet award instead of some other kind of power.
There does remain the very real possibility that the devs can implement a good feature in a bad place. This is one I would accept as being arguable. YMMV, of course. But if enough people feel it would make a better booster item or have expressed it in suggestion forums before it became a vet reward (both in this case), then maybe there's something there for the Devs to consider.
Hey, some of us are at least trying to meet halfway. I'm sure coming up with new rewards is a real pain in the ***, so offer an alternative power that's just a shade less as beneficial.
