  1. Great build Dawn. Many thanks. If you're willing to spend more time on it, thats cool. But seeing as it's for something that won't live longer than three months, don't do it unless you really just like to. I can't promise I'll use the next build as much as I know I'd use this one, but who knows, maybe I'll just make a second build with it.

Its not like I need to save the influence.
  2. Perhaps you're missing something. I already have perma-hasten. I just haven't been able to find a way to keep it and get 45% defense. Or even marginally better defense than I already have.

I'm not "leaving it for others." I've tried to do it myself, without luck. So I'm throwing it out there for better builders to get advice. You make it sound like I just walked in and asked for a build. Is the build I posted so poorly done that you think I was being lazy?

Hmm... but isn't CoH performing better than CO? Perhaps they'd be tempted by owning a better performing game?

    *wishful thinking*
  4. I'll never get to finish the large maze I was building in my base.
  5. Then I'm going to see if I can't make my main more uber. Here's his live build right now, a SS/Elec brute. I always wanted max recharge for him, but tried to get some extra S/L defense as well. So, if you can get him 45% S/L defense (or anything more than what I have) and maintain perma-hasten, I'll build it. Well... so long as it's not gimping damage output.

  7. Well, the mods are probably looking the other way at the moment, and plenty of us have anger seething out of every pore, so let's just post are rage faces here and have a little fun with ourselves.

    Hopefully, it will be therapeutic.

Damn you... GOD DAM YOU ALL TO HELL, NCSOFT!

  9. I believe Posi has stated they will do an "Ask Anything About Game Lore" event. I would think future events could be covered in that...

So, now would be a good time to inform the world that NCSoft performs acts of animal cruelty on a daily basis? Or that they have pictures of Hitler all over their offices? Or that they secretly fund terrorists?!?

    Because that's all true.

You... you had me at carp...

My favorite tanker memory was way back in the day. Maybe around issue 5...

I had just discovered that melee characters were hella fun. I had a Claw/Regen Scrapper named Feral Mutt on Protector. Then, my friends and I started teaming with a tank named Zero Point (not entirely sure anymore). He was an Ice/EM tank that performed miracles before my very eyes. He was an angel sent from heaven to tell me how wrong I was to play a scrapper.

I turned from my wicked ways and started playing... but of course.... an Ice/EM. SCP-2300. I played him as my main for a few years. Of course, after the EM nerf he was never the same play-style-wise. But he was great.

Also, I'll never forget how I made a Stone/SS Tanker named Kaka de Muerte who never got generic'd. His bio (pardon the pun) even told of how he was birthed by Statesman himself after a Taco Bueno binge. Seriously, how did that not get smacked down!? I still have that guy to this day... and until Nov 30.

And well i am as pissed as everyone 7 years in and its a ****** way to end it.

how about a server merger before the lights go out.
Now that forums rules have probably gone out the window, and I don't care about burning any shi++y @ss bridges, I'll just say what I would have loved to have said every time I saw you post.

My God, I've never seen a more shining example of @ss-hattery stupidity.

  15. Whoa whoa whoa! First we find out Tic Toc was BABs, and now this!?

Okay, time to spill the beans on the rest of them. You rednames, just come on out, there's no need to hide those secret identities anymore.
  16. I'll miss all the comic discussions. I've stopped buying comics (except for a few trade paperbacks), but it was nice being able to see what was going on.

Hearing about movie news I would otherwise have missed was also great.

    And the science threads...

...God I'm gonna miss this place.

Yup, April for me, too. And yes, NCSoft handled this in just the right way to assure a lot of people wouldn't want to do business with them again.

Of course, I've questioned their Paragon Market decisions a lot before hand, so this isn't completely surprising that they don't know a good way to make great business for themselves.

[edit] The irony of it all is that I questioned whether I'd want to commit a whole year (again). Of course, the whole time I knew I would. I really, really liked this game.
  19. Is there any idea of how that will be treated?

Or is this a "too bad, so sad" kind of thing, where they can use the EULA as a reason they don't have to refund anything?
  20. Man, and I had a whole build planned out and IOs in the ready...

    ******* NCSoft.
  21. Just stepping in to say good bye to everyone before we all wonder off into the world of gaming. This was one of my favorite forum sections to visit. A lot of you guys and gals were always good for some great comic/sci-fi buzz. I'll miss the tv show/movie threads and the comic threads. If you ever find yourself in another forum, and a guy named Rylas says this comic sucked, or that movie was great, make sure to say "hey". We'll talk about how great this game was and debate which Star Trek captain was truly greatest.

So long! And thanks for all the fish!

    It was Picard!
  22. This has indeed been a bummer of a day. I've been frequenting the tanker forums for many years now. Hearing today's news felt like a pretty bad gut punch. Above the game itself, I'll miss the community. There were a lot of great people here that I like seeing around. Hell, today I found out that Tic Toc was BABs this whole time!

I keep hoping we'll here a new breaking story of some other developer company picking up CoH and Paragon Studios, but I'm afraid NCSoft has decidedly put a bullet into the heart of the game. So I bid you all a good life. Perhaps we'll argue about mechanics or agree on power values in another game. I hope that ends up happening. I'll always try to keep Rylas as my user handle, so if you see my around, say "hey".

Here's the the best AT community in CoH! You guys are the best!

My thoughts go out to all the people at Paragon affected by this news as well as the hundreds of thousands of players that have come and gone and stayed with CoH over it's long history.

    It's a sad, sad day.
OMG! You're BABs! BABs is you!?! Finkel is Einhorn!?!?!

I remember seeing this avatar a long time ago and loving it. Then you just disappeared. Now I get it. By the way, you're avatar inspired my Elec/Stone Tank, iTaunt. Who took the presence pool for more taunty goodness.

On subject, I really will miss this dev team. There's been so much brought to this game and it was obvious that it was being built and taken care of by people who really believed in it. I hope you all find new homes soon, you're all worth every penny you were paid and then some. And if the miracle of miracles happens and NCSoft sells CoH to someone else, I hope they pick you all up to continue the awesome job.

Best of wishes to all of you. You made this a great, great game.

I've played a lot of melee combinations, though I'm not a min/maxer by any means, and the possibility of nine different combat mode combinations (sixteen if you count "not using a mode" in each of the powers) sounds like an interesting diversion.

The thread has covered IO strategies and what to build for in pretty good detail. Does anyone have any thoughts on leveling this combination, or on SO builds? (Incidentally, I mean "leveling through ordinary gameplay"; I don't have the patience for farming or powerleveling.) How much form-switching (in both primary and secondary) might realistically be involved?
What I tested on Beta the most was a Staff/Bio brute (the build I posted in the first page has a good IO stability). On SO's, I think it performs quite well. Bio requires a lot of slots, but thanks to Staff Mastery, you an make up for whatever slots you have to wait for. The Soul option also helps to keep up Defensive and Offensive mode more easily, since those two can be a little draining when you're in the thick of it. Once you get DNA slotted up, though, you should be good on endurance.

If you're playing a lot of different content, then you'll be using a lot of different combos on Modes. You'll find some groups don't require as much survival as others (no Defensive mode needed), or take up more time than other groups (use of Soul/Body or Efficient). On TFs that have lots of different groups involved, I think you'll see lots of mode use. Overall, it's going to be a very versatile combo.

By the way, I find way too much irony in saying "no patience for PLing."
  25. I have an Elec/FA that has become a very fun build, indeed. Lots of exotic damage to be handed out, and it's a pretty solid farm build, too.

Fiery Embrace and Burn on top of all your AoE attacks... DELICIOUS.
