Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

If you like thinking of "defense" in terms of "kill them before they kill you," yes, Blasters are very fun.

Some do have some decent controls to aid in their survivability, but their damage is more often what keeps them alive.

It's so sweet of you to think of the poor little CB tester's feelings like that...

But yeah, no. Power changes should most certainly be done in CB as opposed to Open Beta. That's the reason for beta after all; so that changes can be made quickly and with good feedback.

IIRC BAB's explanation was that the Talsorian "blades" are force fields projected into a monomolecular structure. When the blade comes in contact with anything, the structure fails and is reformed almost instantly, which causes it to act a bit like a saw instead of a razor.

2.) Where did Vanguard get the tech for these? Stolen rikti tech? If so, why don't rikti have weapons like this?
Talsorian technology was hinted at being magictech; a mix of technology and magic. While the Rikti do have their ubiquitous energy swords, it seems that those weapons and the Vanguard's weapons are suitably different.

Think of it like railguns vs black powder guns. Same general effect, different means.

3.) Why was the name changed from Talsorian to Vanguard? Does this have anything to do with lore or upcoming GR? (If it does does anyone really know?)
    In-game, no explanation
Out-of-game, no explanation, but speculation says that the R. Talsorian Gaems company wasn't too keen on the "free publicity."

We do know Electricity Control is on the "to-do" list. It could be they're keeping quiet on anything else so as not to get the backlash should they fail to deliver what are probably reach goals.

    Definitely not.

The gloves are very different from anything we've currently got. You can get a better look at them in the Dual Pistols movie.

As for the armor, the pants are definitely new, but I can't get a good view of the top. The pants are actually sort of layered... like the Stealth pants. Except these have flat spandexy areas instead of the ribbed "quilted" look of the Stealth option (which the male Dual Pistol user is wearing).

Well, Durarara is made by the same people who did Baccano, so if nothing else, I expect the show to have great characters and a pretty dang good, if meandering, plot. Overall, I'm certainly enjoying it.

Also, Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu is a whole lot of stupid fun. It makes me laugh every episode. The cast clicks together in their idiocy so well, the OP and EDs are both incredibly catchy, and the production values are surprisingly high. If you enjoy silly comedies, you'll like BakaTest.
  11. Origin is up to you. What's your concept?

Personally, I'd lean toward Tech though, if only because the Taser Dart Origin Power can light up Oil Slick.

Because you can't play an Empathy/Mind Control Defender. ATs define what sets you can get and, by extension, how you will play. It boils down a bit to the synergy in the sets and how you want to leverage it.

Why is Mind Control/Empathy seen as less viable than X/Empathy? Because Mind's lack of a pet means you can't make use of Empathy's power buffs when solo. When teamed, it doesn't matter and nobody cares, but that minor hit is enough for some people to rule it out.

Why then is Empathy/Psy fine for Defenders even though it lacks that synergy as well? Because Empathy doesn't synergize with ANY Defender secondary, so the sky's the limit. Any choice is equal to any other in this case. It will come down to personal preference.
  14. Cool? Yes.
    Likely? Hell no.

No set has ever been retrofitted just because a new set with a new gimmick has been introduced. Furthermore, "adding in" the ammo types into Assault Rifle is a lot harder than just putting in a simple "Do this from now on, k?" bit. The Devs would have to completely recreate the set from scratch.

I, personally, would prefer they spent that time on making a completely new power set instead of trying to steal the shiny from one set just to tack it onto another.

Not really. I'd be very surprised if those formulas haven't shifted a bit over the years.

I remember way back that it was said a player should be equal to 3 minions. Much more recently, I recall a comment how a player should be equal to 3 +3 minions. The views of the Devs here has shifted, just as the players' has as well.

Furthermore, back when TA was created, Jack and Geko still had their fingers in the pie. Now I'm not going to say "Blame him!" and point to Jack, but his "vision" definitely had a skewing effect on what was made. I will, however, put a lot of the blame at Geko's feet. His power design ideas have apparently lead to a lot of headaches when it comes to trying to design around them.

    What are you talking about?

Defender Acid Arrow is 25% -DEF/ 20% -RES.
    Corruptor/Controller/MM Acid Arrow is 20% -DEF/15% -RES.

It's exactly where it should be: 75% Defender values.

15% -RES is the correct Corr value.

The bug was that it was using MM END Cost values instead. This, AFAIK, has been fixed.
  18. Are smart NPCs in MMOs good? Yes.

Are smart NPCs in this MMO good? Probably not at this point.

I wouldn't mind seeing some new foes that have different acting AI though. C'mon, Castle... you know you wanna give some of 'em heal aggro.

I have nothing against the faction merits thing personally, but I'm just not sure how well it'd work in this situation.

Perhaps rather than merits, they tie it into the actual good/evil spectrum that you run through as you're doing Praetorian missions? If you go full Loyalist side, you can unlock all their stuff... and in order to get the resistance stuff, you have to go back to the other side, slowly working your way back to "neutral" first (of course, you wouldn't lose the parts in the process).

I think the biggest beef people have with merits and the like is that they seem like clutter. If it was more of a sliding scale in a different menu pane, I think most people would be fine with it.
Fair points. So long as I can get those Resistance gloves (they look awesome!!!), I'm happy.

On a sidenote, aside from the thread that popped up a while back, I've never heard anyone complain about too many forms of currency. I haven't had an issue with them, nor has anyone I've played with (to my knowledge, of course). I don't see a particular problem with using merits, but if the Devs want to go a different route, that's cool, too.

The Devs have previously said the PraeClock costume would be unlockable in-game. After seeing this new Resistance costume, I'm pretty certain the PraeClock is the Loyalist analogue.

Also, the Devs have said that a single character could go back and forth on the alignment scales as many times as they wish. Since these costumes are faction tied (probably), I'd guess it'll be handled like the Vanguard costume: merits. You do X for the Loyalists/Resistance, you get a merit. Cash in Y number of merits for piece A/B/C/D/etc. So it'd just be a matter of doing the requisite feats and getting enough merits to get all the pieces you want.

    At least that's my guess.

If I had to wager a guess, I'd say this would mean there's unlockable costumes for Praetorians (Clockwork) and Resistance (WW's pic).

As for mixing and matching... probably, but it'd take a while since you'd need to unlock one side's costume then come back later and unlock the other's.
  22. Awesome stuff, WW!

I can has GR beta nao plz?

  24. Alternatively, you could get the same net effects, but different flavor with:

Suppressing Fire - You unleash a salvo of bullets at a foe, causing them to duck for cover, hampering their accuracy. -ToHit debuff (and -Rech as well if so inclined) applied to target.
  25. Unquestioned questions?

Why would I want to question the questions?

Hrm, maybe we should question Question. I'm sure he'll have some questions.
