  2. I know a lot of people who have taken to playing on the Beta server, so they can experience sommething from Issue 24 that will never be released, or to buy something that they might not otherwise have the points for. It's likely that the same thing is happening to the population of other servers too.

I never knew you or Snowy well, but I remember you both, and I remember having fun teaming with both of you. I'm sad that you missed out on the chance to have VIP until the end.

If you are active on Facebook, search for "Victory Badges". The group has been swelling since the announcement, and I have no intention of dissolving it - even if the game cannot be saved, I fully intend to keep the group there for anyone who wants to stay connected.

  8. They can make all the code they want at home. But when they aren't allowed access to the game's source code, there's no way to integrate the new code into the old.

Yes, I know you probably realize this. There may be certain people in the thread who might take you seriously, so I hope to stave off the crazed "YES! EXACTLY! THIS IS WHAT THEY NEED TO DO!"

And ALL TASKS need SOMEONE. And, as stated in my quote from Zwillinger above, the dev team doesn't have access to the code base any more.

There's nobody there that can do anything more than turn holiday/Double XP events on/off, and from what he's said, Zwillinger can't even do that himself, he needs to contact the server guys in Texas and get them to do it. And before you ask, no, server guys do NOT write new code.

No, I'm not. I know exactly how difficult that would be. Which is why I think it was a huge waste of time and effort, when posting on the forums "I'm gonna be running this SF x times at y o'clock" a day in advance resulted in him having too many people waiting for him most of the time, meaning that he had a full team with less effort than it took you to arrange your multiple multi-boxers into their various simultaneous TFs.

If it doesn't exist in the game, then it requires development to happen. And since all development has ceased... I think you're smart enough to figure out where this is going. Don't disappoint me.

That IS impressive. The best I've ever done on either of those is 25-ish minutes.

A supergroup I used to hang out with specialized in speed Master of Statesman TFs for a while. I think they averaged about 20 minutes a run. If you dig around the Victory forums, you can find a couple posts by _Ryxx_ and Elegost about them, and you can probably still find the videos on YouTube - search for "Sacred Brotherhood".

  13. The joke wasn't funny, the setup was in bad taste, and I can think of no good reason to use a pdf when it would probably be easier to make and host an image file.

These are times to be proud of?

Back in the Black Market Liberation Front days, a friend of mine used to PUG Quick Tarikoss SFs. We'd be a bit slower overall, because we'd have to form the teams first, but we were doing 6 to 8 man runs with a total time ranging from 7 to 12 minutes, with 8-9 being average. After the first one, most people would swap toons and rejoin, so we didn't lose much time to reforming.

Four or five runs, often with full teams, were generating 30-40 recipes per hour. And we weren't jumping through weird hoops trying to coordinate multiple simultaneous SFs, we were just pounding them out in rapid succession.

  16. Based on the wording of some of Zwillinger's posts, I'm pretty sure that there's nothing we can do to stop NCSoft from shutting down the servers.

That's not to say the game can't be saved. I'm still hoping that it will be. I just don't have any reason to believe that NCSoft will be in charge any more. I expect it to either be sold or licensed to a new publisher, should it be saved.

If a third party were to take control of CoH, it might be necessary to divorce the CoH accounts from the Master Account. That may or may not be easy to do, so it's quite possible that we'd all have to create new accounts with the new company helming the project.

So, depending on how things go, I'll either be carrying on as normal, or rerolling all my old favourite characters. I wanted to do some pretty major respecs after i24 anyways - in some ways rerolling would be easier.
  17. Nobody's said anything specific, but I doubt it.

Zwillinger said on the last Coffee Talk that he wanted to get as many events activated as possible before the end (Holiday events, invasion weekends, Double XP, etc). However, the system is only capable of having ONE event active at a time.

I'd expect different events to be put up, as Zwillinger can get them scheduled to be activated, not the same one repeated over and over.

On the date of the announcement (Aug 31), the Nov 30th date was three months away. I'd be willing to be that the form letter that Commander received was generated on or just after the date of the announcement, and hasn't been updated since.

It is still interesting wording, especially in light of Zwillinger's recent post, which gave me pretty much the exact opposite vibe of what Commander's response gives.
  19. Any of those will be good, but I find WP gives a smoother ride from 1-50, while Inv feels lacking for much of the early levels.

Because WP is mostly Resistance and Regen, and those function best when paired with higher HP, I prefer to use it with Brutes.

So my vote would be Dark/WP brute. For what it's worth, I have a level 50 DM/WP/Leviathan Brute, and I found it great fun from 1-50. It's a little light on AoE though, if that matters to you.

Actually, I think you've got it backwards. I'm pretty sure it defaults to "No UI", and capturing the UI requires adjusting the settings.

If you really want to get creative, try this:

    Code:
    /bind sysrq "screenshotui 0$$screenshot"
    /bind shift+sysrq "screenshotui 1$$screenshot"
Creating these two binds will make it so that Print Screen by itself takes a clean screenshot, and Shift+Print Screen takes a UI-enabled screenshot.

No, i want graphics and i want it done fast! Just redesign something old, or rework that WoW game! You guys are costing me money! Be more productive! We don't want new. People want pretty! They don't want something new, it'll just confuse them. -sam

    *facepalm -bob

This isn't meant to offend anyone, just a thought so please there is no need to attack. I've just noticed this with the gaming industry. Not just MMO's either. Not just games as a matter of fact. I mean resident evil 3D was crap! It was insulting. It was crap wrapped in a pretty 3d package. Now mind you graphics are what get most people when they first look so it can’t look like garbage but come on, we want different. CoX was successful because it's not the same thing like most of the other games. With a little advertising it could have been way more successful.

"We put it somewhere that you can find" is not a valid means of communicating with customers. "We sent you an email" is. Sure, there are people who disable emails on their Master Account, but that is not NCsoft's fault. Not even trying to send an email is.

And thanks for reiterating what I was trying to say in a clearer and more concise manner.

If it were sent by GMOTD and email, it would reach EVERY SINGLE PLAYER. If those players choose to ignore it, then the onus is on the PLAYERS, not NCSoft.

The methods that NCSoft has chosen to use to reach the playerbase each reach 50% or far FAR less of the people it affects, and they know this.

No, the argument is not pointless. It takes 2 minutes or less to copy/paste Zwillinger's announcement to the GMOTD and a form letter that can be emailed to the whole mailing list. Why wasn't it done?

I never got an email from Paragon/NCSoft informing me of the shutdown.
I never got in-game notification via the GMOTD.

I do frequent the forums and follow CoH on Facebook, as well as occasionally checking in on them on Twitter. So I saw Zwillinger's address to the community.

Many players (over 90%, according to Zwill) never even register for the forums. 55,600 people follow CoH on Facebook (less than half of the generally assumed playerbase, assuming that all those followers are current subscribers). 6,800 people follow them on Twitter (That's barely twice the number that showed up for TonyV's Unity Rally).
It's possible that there are people who follow news sites that got the announcement that way, without ever seeing it through any of the above sources, though I consider that unlikely.

My point is this: I am still running into people in-game who have no idea that the game is shutting down, because there has never been an OFFICIAL announcement made in a way that ALL players will see it, ie the GMOTD or an email sent to all subscribers. NCSoft has failed in communicating with us, because the information hasn't been put out in a way that is guaranteed to be seen by all of its customers.

    Edit to add:
