I'm always a bit trepidatious when I begin a free-buffs session on lowbies in Atlas, after having read a couple of posts (over the years) by people who seem to dislike it.
Yet, in-game, I've never once been asked to cease & desist, and almost always receive sincere gratitude.
That said, I do try to be choosy about who and where I'm doing the buffing. Lowbies running to the sewer are my favorite targets, street-sweepers around the sewer entrance also seem to really appreciate a little SB. -
Quote:OK let's just swap FS with SP sounds then?I don't believe the visual changed, but the sound did. Somewhere around Issue 7 or 8, I believe, the old sound, which was closer to the sound of Siphon Power, with a loud "Fwaap!" sound, was replaced with the jingly effect that we have now. That may have been a performance issue, as I recall stories of hangups when it was cast on a large group.
So *is* there a visual indicator of which of your teammates are in range to be boosted by FS? Enemies get the dark red swirls...
I haven't been able to pick it out on the large teams I almost always play on, with all the other powers going off. -
Question for long-time Vets: Did they change the sound and visual effects for Fulcrum Shift at some point? I seem to remember someone mentioning that they did.
I ask because the sounds and visuals seem so out-of-whack with how powerful the buff actually is.
I can't SEE which members of my team are being buffed, the sound effect doesn't scale well with how many enemies are being affected...overall it just seems like some designer was out to lunch on the sounds and visuals for this freakishly powerful buff. -

Personally, Radu, I tend to shelve my 50's once they hit the Big Ding, but that's more because I'm goal-oriented, don't dig Badging, and can't set "arbitrary" goals (accumulate 1billion Inf, get Accolades, fully IO-out the toon).
But let me re-iterate what others have said, playing 1-50 on a Shield/Mace Tank is an entirely different game vs. playing thru on a Illusion/Storm Controller, or an Emp/Rad Defender, or Rad/Rad Defender, or an Ill/Kin, or a Grav/Kin, or....
Someone did the math once, here on the Forums, and there are literally hundreds of possible powerset combos (Heroes & Villains), and each one provides an entirely different experience.
You say you're experiencing Altitis already...Me, I *have* to get to 50 before starting a new toon, which lets me really immerse myself in each toon before moving on to the next.
Don't slow yourself down, getting that first 50. But once you do, do consider just putting him on the shelf like a trophy and moving on to your next conquest. There are still *hundreds* of "worlds" left to "conquer". -

Hey P.P. - as you're such a new, eager, polite user, I wanted to turn you on to something I've found very useful over the years, a great flow-chart style map that can help you find your way around the zones in the shortest time possible.
It was created by a player known as Zombie Man, I've PM'd him to ask him to post the link here.
I have a hard-copy taped to the side of my PC, it's a great resource even for Vet players.
I'm sure there'll be a link here soon.
Edit: Lit the Zombie Man beacon prematurely...found the maps Heroes Zone Map
and
Villains Zone Map -
Quote:Too late for that!give it a wait and see if things get better, rather than becoming a bitter twerp that just annoys everyone else.
I'mma keeping my sub in case I get the urge to squeeze into my tights for an evening, but I, too, have been on a semi-hiatus since getting Dragon Age: Origins last week.
Which isn't to say it's such an awesome game...it's not teh suxzorz but personally I prefer the KOTR/Mass Effect subject matter (sci-fi vs. fantasy). Bioware knows how to do single-player right, though, without a doubt. -
Quote:OMG I just peed a little. What an incredible idea. I love the Shard and wish I had more reasons to visit.
And you know what would also be amazing? If the Rikti had set up shop in the Shadow Shard somewhere and that was part of how they were launching their invasion, the dimensional holes they puncture to reach the Rogue Isles linger and give villains Shadow Shard access! -
Quote:Whenever I try to place enhancments normally or during a respec and I try to point at an enhancement, the mouse jumps up to the left when the cursor changes to a hand. It makes it really hard to pick them up and place them.
I'm using AMD 64 x2 processor, Sapphire Radeon 3850 graphics, windowed mode (though I have the same problem when not windowed)
My 3850 does this as well (but heck what a video card, amIright? Thought it was time to scrap the AGP mobo but this little wonder breathed new life into my system).
Make sure you have the latest drivers, they *help* the situation, allowing your mouse cursor to get a *little* closer to the Enhancement, but don't completely fix it. -

I like the idea as it is a pleasant place to visit, but I believe petitions of this nature are frowned upon by the forum mods.

Quote:I think they rolled the dice, betting that the vast majority of players would do exactly what you and I have done - immediately consolidate their toons on a single, more heavily-populated server.Any speculation on why they decided to give free server transfers?
I took all my remaining chars off Liberty and put them on Freedom, where I've been doing the majority of my playing for about 2 years now.
Bet a bunch of peeps did the same - I think it was a brilliant nod toward Server consolidation while leaving us the pseudo-illusion that we did it of our own Free Will.
How much you wanna bet that once all is said and done, population on the lower-pop servers will have decreased, and population on the higher-pop servers will have increased? -

Entered hoping this was a discussion of which Day Job benefits players find most appealing/worth pursuing.
*goes off to hunt for just such a thread*
*intends to check back here in case someone wants to point me to a thread or begin discussion along these lines* -
Quote:Yes...OP - as mentioned in a previous Reply, the VidiotMaps pack is a remarkably powerful "must-have" 3rd-party addition to the game (the only CoX-sanctioned 3rd-party addition of which I'm aware).Actually, the Paragon City map has been updated in the latest VidiotMaps map pack. I got feeling the exact same way you did, and decided to do something about it. It's not displayed on the Web site, but it is visible in-game.
Hmm, I just noticed that it still shows a link between Crey's Folly and the RWZ. Guess I'll have to fix that in the next update.
Great for simple zone-to-zone travel, badging, finding specific Enemy groups, and on and on.
Get it, love it, use it only for Good.
But the Devs letting the "official" in-game map go uncorrected for SO LONG is my one, grating peeve about the game. -
Quote:Great suggestions from all - thx very much Heroes! The are two Special IO's you can find to help:
The Aegis Unique (3% Psi res & 20% Status Resistance)
Impervious skin (7.5% Status resistance).
Place both in whichever epic armor you get(provided it takes Resist damage sets).
Also use Increase Density to hold another Impervious Skin. If you're crazy enough to take Tough too, that's another you can place.
Not true Protection, but shorter durations are always good--it help versus stacking effects. -
Quote:I love it when Forum neophytes come on here all apologetic-like, asking not to be Flamed, pre-emptively defend against Trolling accusations, and the like...not yet realizing that the denizens of these boards are simply the kindest, smartest, funniest, most generous and understanding gamers ON THE PLANET.Sorry to ask this question, but i recently bought some wings recipe and wanted to craft them, have all the salvage material needed, but i dont know where the heck to find a workbench :S...
I've yet to see anyone get pounced on for asking a simple (legitimate) question here - unlike SO MANY OTHER gaming Forums.
I have a brand-new PC game that I was really enjoying, until I went on their Forums to ask some Newb questions, and got slammed for not already knowing these things about the game.
Since then, I've not booted the game once - the experience online completely soured my view of the game itself, to the point that I don't even want to look at the icon on my desktop, but can't bring myself to move it to the Trash just yet. -
Quote:This CAN BE very useful info for someone who is aware of the limitations. Here's one I can add: there's a "City" Tab on your map that will show the locations of the zones in the city, and their connections and train routes to them (well, except for the new trains to Founders Falls and Skyway).
to repeat: The map has NOT been updated to reflect new stops in FF and Skyway (much to my personal annoyance).
This goes for the large wall-maps at the entrance to the Train stations, as well.
Seems like a relatively minor fix to update the art on the map - and a relatively major pain-in-the-butt to have an inaccurate in-game map!
Also: as a Newb you may be reluctant to lead your own Pick-up Group (PuG). But once you get into the swing of things, don't be afraid to start forming and leading your own teams.
Things may start out a bit rocky, but practice makes perfect, and once you get the hang of it, it's the only surefire way to avoid joining lousy teams. I almost never join teams, always forming my own, simply because I already know that I run a good team.
So as you play, pay attention to what's making this a fun team or a stinky team. Emulate the fun Leaders, avoid doing things the way the stinky ones do.
Familiarize yourself with the Team Search window (can type /search to bring it up if you're not the team Leader). If standing around waiting for a teammate to arrive, just type /search and look around in there - play with the different drop-down menus - get familiar with what the different colors (of player names) and Flags mean - etc.
Once you start playing around with /binds - a /bind like: /bind L "tell $target, Level $level-ish team LFM - join us?" will allow you to form full 8-man teams in under 5-minutes (I do this every night) without ticking anyone off by using Blind Invites.
tl;dr version: Start forming and running your own teams as soon as you feel comfortable giving it a shot, it will make your game experience much, much more enjoyable in the long run, despite an initial learning curve. -
Quote:Yes, that's what Edana recommended as well...I was hoping for something I could put to work immediately, rather than waiting for my Epic ding. It's not an always-on option, unless you have HUGE +recharge, but what about this?
I'll certainly consider taking Psi as my Epic, but I do SO love Hibernate... -
Quote:In general, building for status effects through IOs is going to be a waste of your time, influence, and slots.
Your best bet is to simply build for defense so that, more often than not, you simply dodge the effects.
Okay this is do-able.
I have Superior Invis (currently slotted for 3 End Redux/1 Def - but now that I have Transference (my most recent Ding), I can alter that to 3 Def/1 End), and Combat Jumping (already slotted for +Def but I can revisit that slotting to make sure I'm getting the most out of it).
Thanks Dis, any other suggestions peeps?
(And at the risk of derailing my own thread - just now noticing that my Rep suddenly jumped like 3 jellybeans in about a week. Has anyone twigged on a quick and easy way to figure out why, now that we can't see comments?) -
I'm discovering that my ill/Kin troller has to be in the thick of things (up near the melee'ers) to be as effective as I want, but this is leaving me very vulnerable to AoE Mezes.
I don't pay much attention to Sets or special IOs - could someone recommend an effective way to increase my Mez protection?
Inf Cost isn't *really* an issue, but I am hoping that there's a cost-effective way to do this.
As I'm writing this I think I'm remembering that there's a Temp/Reward/Day Job power that can help with this as well? -
Quote:I only have more villains than heroes because I like all of the villain ATs versus the three hero ATs I like (Blasters, Scrappers, Controllers). That will most likely change with Going Rogue though (Yay for AT crossing).
This is the kind of dispassionate gameplay I *WISH* I could enjoy.
I too wanted very badly to enjoy the Villain side of my favorite game, but no matter how many Vills I start, I just can't seem to level one past about 18 or so.
I simply can't "lose myself" in pretending to be a Villain, as I can when pretending to be a Hero.
I have similar problems in numerous games (including Civ 4) that can at times "require" you to be a bit evil-***** to succeed.
You're not alone, OP, there are plenty of us out there, who really want to embrace and experience Red-side content, but find that for some reason, it just rubs them the wrong way. *shrug*
I would LOVE to find out if the Devs ever considered that this might be a popularity-limiting factor when they were working on CoV.
I have to imagine that someone on the team, at some point, said the same thing we're seeing repeated post-OP here.
Wondered if it ever had them truly worried?
