My theory: Praetoria is actually a tiny protected area & the Hamidon rules the rest of the planet. Cole lost or simply fought Hami to a standstill. Then spun a huge web of lies to hide the fact from the remaining human populace. Hami won..Praetorian Earth mostly belongs to it....the only remaining humans are behind the shields and as long as Cole keeps them there...Hami won't destroy them. This is why Cole keeps such an iron grip on the populace. He doesn't want people to get curious and wander outside the shields and discover the truth. The other Praetors are in on it as well...
Hopefully the future Hami Raid is Primal Earth's super-beings showing up to Praetoria and putting an end to Hami's reign. -

Quote:You've summed up the exact problem I'm having. The Apex and Tinman TF's crash my game. I can't log into to Praetoria w/o a long load time or crash. Load times are long and if I successfully make it to one of the above maps..the lag makes the mission unplayable. This all began with the release of I19.I'm in the same boat, it began occasionally, these long lag spikes that I only seem to experience in large teams, typically on Task Forces. I would immediately crash upon entering the zone for the Apex Task Force. My whole computer freezes during these lag spikes, leading me to believe that it's a graphical issue. I am not in ultra mode either. However it's possible it may be something else. I am playing on Virtue server, which in the past has had it's problems, it could be that the server is so busy, it could be my connection, or something else. But everything it all began after i19 was released. My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250, I purchased it not too long ago, so I really have no clue.

I understand your play-style concern. The good news is you can have some that back again..but you're going to need to let go of being strongly dependent on PSW.
My Suggestions:
Add Psychic Scream into your attack chain. Yes it's a cone..but with practice you master effectively positioning yourself to hit as many mobs as possible.
Consider dropping Soul Mastery and picking up the Ice APP instead. Get Sleet (30% resistance debuff) It's going work really well with you AoE immobilize, as I believe it doesn't mitigate the knockdown.
My suggestion for an attack chain.... Drop Sleet, Wormhole mobs on to the debuff patch, slap down your AoE immobilize (so they can't run away)...fire off drain psyche...initiate Ice Storm finish off the mobs with Psychic Scream.
If you go with the Fire APP instead..then you can combine Rain of Fire with your AoE immobilize and pepper with Drain Psyche, PSW, Psychic Scream and Fire Ball.....
Hope this is helpful...
Edit.....
What are you bringing to the team....
+ Regen debuff
+ Resistance debuff (if you go ice)
+ Massive Slows (Grav/Psi/Ice will be a -movement -recharge monster)
+ Damage...damage...and more damage. -
I'm with you on this 100%. I'm still at a loss on what to do with my Mind/Energy Dom and my Plant/Thorn...
But my Fire/Psi/Ice is just incredible right now. I'm thinking of Fire/Psi/Fire on a 2nd build.
I'm also thinking about Mind/Energy/Fire....but still a little unsure. -
I have a lvl 50 Fire/Psi/Ice Dom. I've had it for close to 5-years. I hated..and I mean hated the initial revamp of PSI..overtime I learned to love it.
But only because of what we got in trade:
- Increased damage in Psychic Scream. Yah it's a cone..but if you leverage it right w/PSW you will do some respectable damage.
- Villain APP's: Most notably the ICE and FIRE. Those two APP's alone do a great deal for an AoE oriented Dom. Ice gives you a nice resistiance debuff (Sleet) and AoE dmg (Ice Storm). Fire Gives you tons more damage (Rain of Fire) and (Fire Ball).
- Incarnate Alpha Slot: Musculature is a very noticeable damage increase. Seriously, you'll notice it as soon as you slot it.
In short if you want an effective high damage Dom go Fire/Fire/Fire, Fire/Psi/Ice, or Fire/Psi/Fire and get the Musculature Alpha slot. -
Branching is an awesome idea. I don't know if we'd get that kind of revamp for mercs though. At this point I'd settle for the medic actually being useful and special ops having leadership abilities.
-
You don't see many earth/psi's but the potential is pretty awesome. If you really want overkill pick "Ice" when you get to Epics. If you got that route you will be a solid debuffer of:
- Regen
- Resistance
- Recharge
- Defense
- Movement
All that plus a very hard to kill pet, great Cone & AOE damage, and controls. Be prepared for most teams not to realize what your contributing. But you won't care you'll be too busy making mobs dead.
Earth/Psi/Ice is probably a very good task force build. One of many Doms I've been meaning to try myself. -
Quote:It works...I'm doing it now. I have a 5 slotted hasten, some global recharge, and Spiritual Boost.
Actually the point of the experiment was using the spiritual boost to maintain perma-hasten and then check to see how domination was doing with only hasten and your global bonuses.
Thanks for pointing out that I forgot to add that formula to the list, adding it now
Perma Hasten + Global Recharge are keeping me solidly in perma dom range. It's a bit tricky..you got keep your eye on the Domination icon...but it works.
If you have the means to get a solid perma dom build without going through this though, I'd recommend it. You could then slot something else for your boost like Muscaluture. -
Plant/anything.....especially after seeds of confusion. You can solo easily and pretty much have a utility power for just about any non AV situation.
-
Vidzi!
Nice to see one of the old HTT doms back in the game. I actually wouldn't mind hanging out with HTTT again. If I can get this old klunker of a computer going again. Or better yet get a new computer for X-mas!
APP's are awesome that and the Dom revamp pretty have turned most Dom's into what they should have been all along. -
Quote:<--- What he said...They are level 18, don't get combustion til 20. However Flashfire --> Fire Cages --> Fire Breath is an equally hot combination.
But in all seriousness..take the previous advice about FlashFire to heart. Flashfire + Fire Cages. Get it, slot it, and use it. The stun + the immobilize means you have an AoE hold earlier than almost anyone else gets one.
On a Fire/Fire Dom your best defense is stun and damage. My advice would be to slot for damage and stun in the early levels. Think of yourself as a blaster with very good holds. I keep saying I'm going to roll one of these..and I never do. -
Quote:You do get a ranged AoE hold at 18. When used with Domination or Power Boost it's quite effective. Just sayin.
Good point..for a Grav Dom a secondary with Power Boost is quite the godsend. /Earth, /Energy and /Ice are pretty staple seondaries for Grav. I'm hearing Grav/Psi is pretty good now..but I've had such bad experience with it (before the Dom revamp) I a little afraid to recommend it. -
Gravity/Fire and Gravity/Electric offer some interesting ranged power choices. You'd have a solid ranged attack chain by level 8 or so.
If you're not afraid of "squishy melee" Gravity/Stone is a very smashtastic combo. A bit of rough ride before you get Seismic Smash and Singularity...but worth it. -
Quote:This is a good tip. I ended up going with Spiritual but I'll probably do Musclature too. My "sort of perma" dom works much better now. I really didn't feel like playing the market and countless hours of farming to get a bunch of purples. I picked up Spiritual in a simple evening of gaming (two TF's). The extra recharge in hasten seems to have done the trick. Plus I'm Fire/Psi/Ice. So the going the "stun" or "healing" paths in Spiritual all have a nice benefit.I tried the tactic of binding Domination to the forward move key, with hasten on Auto. However it drove me nuts to have the "bzzt" sound of a power that isn't ready whenever I moved. I turned that sound off, but it is handy in combat.
My solution was to use Herostats. I never cared about the stats or badge tracking uses of Herostats, but I realized it had buff tracking. I could set it to ding whenever Domination recharged. It worked perfectly, and I used it from level 30-50.
When I hit 50 I added a bunch of recharge and got to permaHasten. At that point I switched Domination to auto and I use Herostats to warn me when Hasten is ready. It is really an automatic response now. I hear a ding and I press Hasten.
Can't wait to see what Musculature will do for this Dom. The Alpha slot and boosts are really fun. I think I prefer them to recipes. They are easy to get and create. -
It is fair to mention that the Alpha slot does effect "Hasten"...which in turn effects Domination (and all your other recharging powers). So while not directly affecting Domination it certainly can contribute significantly.
I.E. if Hasten is up more frequently, Domination will be up more frequently. I'm thinking of Going Recharge/Stun on my Fire/Psi/Ice Domi. -
The problem (as I see it) is that Ninja/Poison combines one of the weaker Primaries with a very specialized secondary..without a lot of synergy between the two.
Thugs/Poison would probably be a better overall choice. You get defense from the pets, damage, and the Bruiser is the best anchor you could possibly get for Noxious Gas. Thugs/Poison actually starts getting darned powerful as you level up.
Bots/Poison isn't bad either for many of the same reasons. Plus the -regen, defense, etc..from the bots are synergistic with poison.
I'm not sure of any way of making your life easier as a Ninja/Poison mm.....leadership might be useful if you don't have it..and grabbing the medicine pool (or maybe stealth for def..and phase) might help out.....
There was Ninja/Poison guide out there but I'm not sure how good it was... -
Fire/Fire and Earth/Earth are the best bets for "single element" combo's IMHO...
Earth/Earth is going to demand that you get up close and personal. (Drop controls first, melee mobs while they are helpless..). You'll have a nice combo of debuff/control/ and damage. Seismic Smash will stack with your Single Target hold. That plus powerboost and You can easily hold a boss or two. Earthquake, Volcanic Gases, and Quicksand will keep mobs coughing, flopping, and slowed.
Fire/Fire is light on control (but flashfire + firecages = a fast recharging AoE hold) but heavy on damage. Fire/Fire is also more forgiving if you want go for a ranged build.
Ice/Ice looks intriguing, but I don't know enough about the combo as I've never played it. Ice Slick is a great soft control however..but from what I understand this is a very heavy endurance usage combo. -
Sleeps are very underrated.
Leadership Buffs, while hot on the forums, are not so well understood by many in-game players.
Combat Jumping, another power that helps you out, but because it's doing it's job you never really notice =D. -
I live in NorCal so I've had he opportunity to meet some CoX staff in RL. I've also met quite a few folks in my SG in RL as well. We even call and email one another form time to time. I started playing the game while in chemotherapy for cancer. So it was my main social outlet. Once I was recovered and feeling better, I met some of the folks I'd been chatting with. Was a great experience. It's always great meeting other 30+ folks who like gaming and comic books as much as I do. :-)

I don't like sword and sorcery, not even a little bit. And I love super-heroes..so this game is a perfect match for me. And the community is awesome. Just got my "City Traveler" reward!!!

Quote:Just one of the Mallets is fine, but I don't know if I'd skip both. There may be varying opinions on this. Thanks for the advice, guys.
I started up one and having fun with it.
One more question... I tend to play for the fun of it and enjoy concept builds. Never was a minmaxer or ultimate build player. However, how badly am I gimping this toon if for concept reasons... if I don't use the mallets?
Thanks in advance. -
Quote:With addition of he APP's (most notably Ice and Fire) this isn't as true as it was. Yes it takes a little investment and patience. But a well built high-level dom (especially Fire/Psi/Fire or Fire/Psi/Ice) is an AoE monster. With enough recharge Psy-Shockwave is reliable.Considering that "villain side" is open to all ATs, I don't really think that's the case. Even just considering the basic Villain ATs, Fire/Psi can't really compete with the top tier Brute farmers after the Psi Assault changes.
Edit: That's not to say that a Fire/Psy isn't still a great choice for general PvE use.
I'm not sure I'd Fire/Psi for PvP, I believe Mind/Fire is still top dog for Dom PvP builds. But I am admittedly no expert in that area. -
I was chatting with another long time Dom player a few days ago. Which brings me to pose this question to other old school Doms. It seems like with the introduction of the APP's almost of the issues the Dominators had have been addressed. Sure there are minor power issues (animations, activation times, etc..). But every AT in the game faces those.
But since APP's now give decent aoe damage, debuffs, and shields. Dom's seem pretty much one of the most well rounded AT's in the game. What does you guy's think? Do your Dom's pretty much play the way you've always wanted them too? Or do a few of you still find the AT is lacking something? For me, my Dom's feel pretty much perfect. Especially, after I get to level 41.
