I'd be willing to work both sides. I have a Fire/Dark just shy of stamina (Tobacco executive, haven't been able to justify getting the power, and thus he's been mostly unplayed) redside and would gladly roll a Traps/ defender blueside.
-
Redside, or Blue? I may have alleviated this shortfall somewhat by storing a handful in that range from sometime ago (blue), but I don't remember. It appears in some cases low/mid-level rare pool As are becoming scarcer (at least according to price) than some Cs.

Quote:I'd agree with you on that, though the evidence is anecdotal from board commentary and checking peoples' bonuses on teams. At the same time I think you're going to find that you're largely in a minority. My experience is that most players either don't IO their toons at all (or at least don't go beyond generics) or wait until mid-40s to start IO'ing (at least beyond generics and maybe the odd frankenslot for leveling).
Quote:Additionally level 50 recipes sell a lot quicker than lower level ones. Waiting weeks for a 30 million sale is for me a waste of slots. If you rotate through your alts for marketing I guess this isn't really an issue but I tend to only do market work on the character I'm playing (I'll occasionally log in my main specifically for marketeering but my other characters only do it if I'm playing them).
Quote:EDIT: Also to whomever placed the lowball bid for my level 10 Eradication: Chance for Energy damage*, the asking price is under 20million, up your bid, you know you want it
*These remind me, I need to check on Oblit proc bids... -
I think all but one of my toons have biographies (or "biographies), though many are one sentence long. My creation process is pretty much the same as this:
Quote:I just wish my costumes didn't mostly suck.I always start with a AT/powerset combination in mind - my characters are never driven by concept, rather, what I want to play informs the concept. Given the AT and powersets, I fiddle around in the costume creator, and by the time I have something I like, I have an idea for a story explaining someone with that origin and those powers who looks like that.
Typically most tend toward (attempted) humorousness, as I suppose The Tick is the source of most of my superhero knowledge. Like Sailboat (whose toon with a nice biography was standing next to me once at WW)
- A sub-literate recounting of power acquisition (my forum namesake's)
- A recipe
- A whirlwind tour through real historical events that the character experienced
- Journal entries
- Passages lifted (and modified slightly) from historical documents
- A personal ad
- A warning label
- An alien trying to parse and fit in with superhero culture
- Two citations from the Qur'an
- A condemnation of the reader
- A short joke on the character's name
- A breathless newspaper article on the character's exploits
- A song whose lyrics need a lot more refinement
- Meta-comic book material (Unlikely Man: No one ever expected a kid from across 110th Street to grow up to fight evil with magic, a robot arm, and a bow.)
Other players' good biographies and costumes make the game delightful almost every day. -
BlueRaptor-- my beef with the comment was that creating mid-level recipes wasn't a sensible course of action. While playing CoX as much as I do is not sensible in real-world terms, within the confines of the game (and my playstyle) my actions make sense.
And you make a compelling case for sensible activity with a different mindset.
Quote:If you only play one character at a time. (I'm sure some of the time I spend on crafting/selling/shopping is inefficient in xp/min terms, but a huge portion of my own entertainment is tinkering with builds.)and running to Wenworth's to put low level stuff up for sale would be wasted time, as it's mostly for a gain that wont be worth anything for your character anymore by the time it sells, as you're gonna be a much higher level then already and can make more cash by beating up stuff in the time it would have taken to put those items up.
Quote:Also, since levelling is so fast, few people will want to buy e.g. said level 38 Touch of Death now when they can make the needed two levels to slot the 40 one in an hour or two. Buy sub-maximum just for that big of play? Doesnt make much sense anymore.
Quote:And since your auction slots fill up fast too I guess a lot of people dont bother putting up the few lame-level recipes they still do get:
So yes, for those that want to fly to 50 fast, low level drops are few and there's very little incentive to auction them. -
Quote:The problem with the "new" mechanics is even "kissing" a foe with the edge of the cane--if at the wrong time during a repel pulse--sends the mob several feet from where it was standing.ignoring the fact that it is pushing foes away from the Melee people.
Obviously if your melee have mature defenses they probably don't need the -tohit debuff, but otherwise increased safety usually comes with increased irritation. -
Quote:When Hurricane's mechanics were changed (i6? i7?) due to PvP whining (waaah, my scrapper/tank can't just walk up on the ground to every squishy and pound them, in a game where everybody who chooses certain powers can operate in three dimensions), it made the power a lot less useful. The repel pulse used to recur every tenth of a second, or something like that, and only extended just slightly beyond the graphic. This was fabulous for repositioning mobs where you wanted them, with the occasional knockback displacing one or three. Now the repel pulse recurs with a much longer gap (a second?) and slides mobs a looooonnnnggg way away, not giving you the precision once possible. In addition, critters can run into the hurricane during the gaps, and they invariable hit a different vector when the pulse expels them (slight movements along a small circumference), resulting in scatter. That's almost an oxymoron. Good herdaners are few and far between. I think I've only seen one in my entire career.
This is the only nerf in the game that has really bothered me (obviously, since I'm still kvetching about it); I actually liked ED, though I'm not sure I should admit that in public. (Note: I did not have a /regen scrap before i5.) -
Quote:Um, fire, dark, and electric have s/l resistance and status protection. Electric has layers in self-heal/+regen and end drain. Dark has layers in resistance, stealth (and a modicum of +def), mezzes, and a massive heal. Fire...has ...uh, a rez. Now these layers may not equal WP in practice, but they are layers...The weakness of WP is debuff vulnerability. Otherwise there would be no reason to take any other set because WP has excellent regen, exotic def, s/l res and status protection. Layered defenses like that are superior to simply res or heal/regen (like elec or fire or dark) because they don't collapse like a house of cards from one little vulnerability.

Quote:There's not a decent quantity of rare pool As available at all levels. In the highly desired mid-level sets, these As turn up more rarely than Cs. (See Kinetic Combat)There are a decent quantity of pool As and pool Bs available at all levels
Quote:
Since no one with any sense spends merits on random rolls before level 50 this is unlikely to happen.
But your statement is also wrong in other ways. I spend all my merits earned at the points of 30, 35, and 40 now. Why? To occasionally provide rare recipes that I want while I'm leveling. Because I don't power level to 50 and then play. Because I like my toons to be awesome in the 30s. Because I don't play my 50s that much, so IOing them out at that point seems a waste. To sometimes earn tremendous amounts of cash on a lower level toon (see a 30's earning power versus a 50's) if I'm bored with marketeering. And even to provide goods for the market, for others' fun. I've answered three specific requests in this forum, one of which was for a lower-than-max snipe pool C.* I actually get pretty disappointed with the new-ish weighting of the task for rolls**, since even if it's worth less sometimes, I like the Cs from accurate tohit debuff and such, rather than the common armors and attack Cs. Earning cash is easy. Getting some recipes is trickier.
*This person then said, oh I meant redside, after I'd posted for 30 million in WW. It still sold for the asking price when I left it up for a couple weeks.
**The two Numina's uniques and Obliterations in my last 10 rolls, notwithstanding. -
Quote:Make sure to check prices on crafted vs. recipe. You can often make 5-10 million more by crafting recipes of this ilk (and the salvage and crafting at 24 should be cheap), particularly if there are none others for sale below 30...A few people have suggested that it is wasted on this toon, so I will prolly give it to another toon or sell it. I'm poor by uber standards and have never had a really cool proc but it seems to make sense to sell it or move it to another toon.
edit: Ah, beaten to the punch by mere seconds! -
Very cool build.
I'm not sure why there's an end reducer in Benumb, since it's on such a long recharge and you have near-perma Heat Loss-- maybe put that slot in Fissure with an Explosive Strike or Force Feedback proc.
Or, you might drop Tactics and take Vines with 2 slots and a couple accuracies in case of emergencies. Or nemesis. (Since most of Tactics' importance is duplicated by FR and Infridgidate.)
Have you gotten up to slotting the procs in Creepers? -
-
The last two merit rolls I've gotten numina's unique, and that's from a risky 30-34 roll. (Supplying the mid-range market, donchyano.) DO EEEEET!
(This message perhaps brought to you by the letter X, Yuengling, and some funky Ginseng vodka my in-laws made me.) -
Quote:Half of the above as pool As tend toward 10 million+ crafted. In the 10-14 and 15-19, if you're "rolling" from 30 or higher, almost any uncommon or rare pool A acc/dam, end/res, or end/def at max level is going to be salable--crafted--for at least a million. But you do have to do that salvage & crafting routine, and maybe that's not worth a market slot.10-14 you're guaranteeing that almost everything is junk, and a very few are very good. I don't know if there's anything in the middle.
Your definite goods are going to be -KB (steadfast and karma), steadfast res/def, Regenerative Tissue +regen.
A quick look for "possibles" gives me these, which I'd at least look up before tossing:
Eradication
Kismet +Acc
Theft of Essence
Basilisk's Gaze
Blessing of the Zephyr
Rectified Reticle
Shield Breaker
Cloud Senses -
Quote:Here's several tips: If you're missing 95% of the time, and even if you hit, you only do negligible damage, stop firing; you might be wasting endurance. If you're on a team of 8, who presumably all have your bubbles, let somebody else who has better defenses than you take the aggro from the MOG'd PP. Also, PP's have cones, you might be familiar with one from your own powerset, so don't stand near the person with the aggro. Also, there are ways you can circumvent the MOG before it's fired. For instance, when the PP's rather low on health you can a) hit Aim and Power Burst, i.e., "burst damage"; b) knock him down with Force Bolt and concentrate solely on him to make sure he can't get up and trigger it; c) ask some of the idiots on your team to please mez the PP before he can fire it off. Or, if someone on your team has psionic attacks, that person can kill the PP if they can hit 'm. Give them your yellows and turn on tactics. Or, one durable teammate can hold aggro until the defense ends (and it can be killed with one more shot), and the rest of the team can go on to the next spawn, with high hopes that they're not too moronic to let the next PP pop off its ueber defense.Reptlbrain:
In that example, it WAS a team of 8, but the number of people made no difference to the PPs chance to hit me, which was the point of the reference.
Quote:Boxing does very little damage, but has a disorient chance, which can stack with other stun effects.
Quote:Even with Stamina and all the attacks double slotted for endurance, I'm out of endurance after one or two minions. That's with only Dispersion Bubble, Weave and Manuevers running. Heaven help me if I run Tough and Assault, too.
At level 50--and the curve may vary a bit at 35, but not that much--you can take down an even-con or +1 minion with 4 attacks, provided they don't have strong energy/smash resistance. That will cost you 20 endurance if, as you claim, they're slotted for about 67% end redux. Even if you have Maneuvers, Weave, and Dispersion bubble unslotted for end redux, your gain is 1.25 end/second. Firing off those four attacks consumes at least 6.67 seconds, which means you're regaining at least 8 end while those attacks fire. So each minion killing sequence will cost 12 end, which means you can kill 8 minions with non-stop attacking.
We are men of (imaginary) action. Lies do not become us.*
(*Sorry, Westley in the thread and all...) -
Panzerwaffen: Ha!
Quote:Wait, now it's a whole team of eight, not a solo encounter? And he's breaking the game code by one-shotting you? No wonder you want the mechanics changed.
The Paragon Protector wiped out a whole team of 8. We could barely hit him, and when we did, he ignored the knockback effects. He clobbered me in one shot with PFF on, in one attempt.
Quote:scrapping with Air Superiority and Boxing (as needed), controlling foes with Repulsion Bomb soft control and protecting people with bubbles.
Here's another tip: play a game where you can enable the cheat codes; your character will feel super all the time and never have any constraints on them. -
I don't know why anybody bothers to respond. Time and again the OP gets told better building strategies and better combat tactics and he refuses to heed any advice.
-
The pool Bs can be relatively cheap as recipes, as they're being generated a lot more often than the As. I've picked up a small handful redside, level 30, in the last few weeks for bids between 1 and 2 million. Even the As have shown up that cheap occasionally. (And the crafted Bs have been spiking higher than crafted As last I checked!)
-
Make sure you pick up Schismatrix Plus--the short stories are more fun than the novel.
reptlbrain is taken from a standard(?) British nature documentary pronunciation for the parts of the brain argued to have evolved earlier. It seemed to fit for the first CoH character that I enjoyed playing. -
Quote:At least the moron kidnapped can keep up...I have a celerity in swift on one of my toons, and it does make it a pain to solo hostage missions. However, there are ways to unstealth, one is by exemping below swift (now 5 levels below swift), and now a much easier way is to [Walk] it off, although it will turn back on the moment you stop walking.

Quickly, things that should be changed for defensive purposes:
Reconstruction, Dull Pain, and Integration should get first dibs at slots. *Then* Instant Healing, Fast Healing, and Health, in that order, if you have slots to spare. Reconstruction and Dull Pain should try to max out recharge then heal, and you can almost do this with 4 slots (with Heal/Rech set IOs of higher levels) or easily do it with 5 slots. (5 Doctored Wounds is usually a good choice, because it gives you extra recharge.) Integration *must* be picked up at 16. It only needs three slots (all Heal), and perhaps an additional EndRdx. *At most*--unless you're slotting the Heal uniques--Instant Healing (recharge), Fast Healing (heal), and Health (heal)--should get only 3 slots.
I would try to fully slot Divine Avalanche, giving it the stats of a good attack *and* a bit of extra defense, too.
Resilience only needs its default slot. -
Digression: Post-35, does Stamina need the extra two slots?
I tend to try to match shapes of existing AoE mez/attack sequences with my AP AoE attack powers; only Stone doesn't really match with the Cone-AoE sequence that starts nearly every plant/ fight, unless you always scoot up in the middle. Then again, as a /kin, of course you're scooting in close.
Frost Breath and Energy Torrent (if it's the same dimension as a scrap's) are narrower than Seeds. It looks like Torrent is wider, and both of them fall short of matching seeds by 10'. I added Bile Spray to my Plant dom, and the Aim - Seeds - Fling Thorns - Bile Spray was quite pleasing. Can't get enough Bile, really.
Would the knock in Psionic Tornado or Energy Torrent (I don't know if either are 100%) be worthwhile as stopgaps for defending against adds? Psi Tornado has a late appearance as AoE, though.
Is APP color customization coming with i17 and power pool colorization? Depending on your leveling speed, Ice Armor can be made nigh invisible... -

Quote:I did the Tarikoss for the first time ever the previous weekend--the same day that the leader's level-lock was patched in (surprise!). Let's just say it was slow-going locked at 18 with lvl 15 IOs as enhancements and lots of Spectral Demons as opponents, and as four toons that we couldn't take down Ba'atzul (not sure if the new rules meant he was +2 to us, or if he automatically conned to our level). Finally, and not related to Grav/Earth, Virgil Tarikoss is a superb SF.
Our Mind/Earth dom was certainly the linchpin in beating Infernal, though we wished we had saved him to help with Ba'atzul.
Quote:Secondly, Gravity is very hard to see, even with bright power customization. When the team goes up against Infernal we get the comment "Is he just going to stand there?" I'm thinking, while queuing up yet another layer of Gravity Distortion, "Yes. Yes he is". Some of the team really has no idea what I'm actually doing there ...
