Since you liked blasters except for the high mortality factor, you might want to give dominators a go. They, like blasters, use active defense, which means you need to keep an eye on everything that's going on around you and find a way to make it not kill you, but with a control primary it's a little bit safer.

Sophos' anti rootkit tool helped me get rid of a nasty rootkit infection on my boyfriend's computer.
You say you've had emails sent out... have you confirmed they're coming from your computer rather than someone having access to, say, your hotmail username and password? -
Want!
(I can't get it at the moment because we're poor, but I will get it when I can) -
Are the auras able to be used in combat-mode only, as well as all the time?

Quote:Doesn't Propel also summon a toilet? That'd be a surprise for the poor person that was using it at the time...Propel. The description mentions that you 'open a gravitational rift and take an object from someplace' - does that mean that all over the world, people's forklifts, file cabinets and gargoyles are mysteriously going missing?

I have no problems whatsoever with NCSoft selling little niche packs on top of their normal updates, as long as they aren't providing less in their normal updates to compensate for that. And while it sounds possible that that's what they did for the emotes that were supposedly in GR, I can't think of any evidence that it's been done for any of the previous packs.
Quote:I can only assume that the marketing group decided that they wouldn't be able to sell the amount extra they'd need if they decreased the price. If they expected to sell x copies at $8 each, then they'd need to be confident of selling 2x copies at $4 each to make the same amount. As stated before, not buying this pack, as I don't think it's a good value for what it delivers. But with the quotes above, Nether - they had all the feedback in the announcement of the pack with quite a number saying "If it were cheaper, I would buy it." "I'm going to buy it" and "I absolutely won't no matter what the cost" seemed to be the minority responses there.
Market research? They had it in that thread. A boatload of it. And it wasn't acted on - either by increasing what's in the pack, or lowering the price of it. So you'll excuse me if I can't buy that as an excuse.
I personally think that $1 per emote is overpriced and that $4 would have been a more reasonable price for the pack. I still wouldn't have bought it anyway since I'm not into emotes like some people are, but it wouldn't have seemed such a ripoff compared to the price and contents of the other packs. -
Quote:Absolutely. My Fire/Fire was utterly painful at first, and was nearly deleted several times. (Some of her problems were due to my newbiness though!) But now she's a 50 permadom with a couple of purple sets slotted, and she's an absolutely merciless adrenaline-pumping death machine. Or dead. It depends on how quick my reflexes are at the time.My Fire/Fire Dom. This is a build I'd recommend to anyone who isn't afraid of IOs and likes high risk, high reward characters.
The most fun character for me during the whole run to 50 was my Thugs/Dark Mastermind. An absolute beast right from the get-go, only getting more beastly as she got more and more of her key powers and more sets in her powers. A real blast to play, she is. -
I agree with you. I'd prefer to see more damage from a stalker, not more survivability. More HP / defences will just make them more like a scrapper, whereas I'd prefer them to play more like a blapper: kill super fast, or die trying.

I'm having this problem too. It is very annoying. I'm mainly noticing it in busier zones on Virtue, like Steel, Talos or Cap Au Diable. One time, I was having a bunch of problems in Cap, so I switched to St Martial and had no problems there. No idea why this would be, but that's my experience with it.

Yay! My ninjas are *finally* going into melee voluntarily instead of standing there flinging their little throwing stars. I can see why it'd be annoying for a ranged MM primary though.

Quote:I didn't bother reporting it, but my laptop's GPU ran 10 degrees hotter on Test vs Live (during beta, of course, now it's just as hot on Live). Mind you, this was after enabling all of the UM options, but the increased workload definitely made it run hotter. It did always run hot though, FWIW.As a Note, I was Not the only one to report a Laptop overheating problem with I17, they had to clean their heatsink and fan and got it running, My situation it did Not fix but it Shows I17 caused a High heat problem for at least 2 laptop players.
(I'd open it up and check out the heatsink etc, but the screws holding the bottom panel on are apparently made of plasticine and will strip if you so much as give them a stern look, so I've had to settle for playing with my laptop's back end propped up on a book until I can get one of those cooling pads for it.) -
Doms are very fun (I have 6, assuming I'm not forgetting about anybody
). Did you have any thoughts as to what type of character you'd like to play, or what type of playstyle you'd like? And are you going to be playing solo or teamed mostly? And if so, what with?
There's a lot of variation in how you can play doms, depending on the powersets you take.
For example, I have a (50 perma-dom) fire/fire, who plays like a psycho-blapper. Her playstyle is very fast-paced and frenetic, but it took a lot of work to get her to the point where she can wade into a x8 spawn without thinking twice. She gets a lot of AOE from her Hot Feet, 3 Fire Imps, and Combustion, and strong single target damage from everything else. Fire/Psy used to be the king of AOE (and was the main combination used by farmers), but I don't know if that's still the case since Psy was rebalanced a couple of issues back.
At the other end of the spectrum, I have my 35 grav/elec. Gravity doesn't have a lot of control, but it's fun to use, and Elec is a largely single-target set, so she's slower and more tactical. My 26 mind/psy is also a similar playstyle, but Mind control is *very* control-heavy, so it's a very safe set. -
/signed. An excellent post!
Quote:Edit: Oh, I also forgot to mention: Some people say reaching 50 "prepares" you for EATs, but even ignoring that several people rush to 50 and therefore have less time to learn the game, playing an AT does not prepare you for another.
Now, I'm not sure whether 20 might not be a bit low for EAT unlocking given how quickly you can get there, and I suspect that a lot of newbies will have the same problems I did (I might have made it 30 or 35 if it was me), but I fully support this decision of the devs. This is an alt-heavy game, and I'm sure there are many, many people who have been playing for years and have many alts but no 50s. In fact, my boyfriend is one of them (he has a 50 villain, but no hero).
I do wonder what the devs will do if, say, 90% of the game population has access to HEATs after I17, but still nobody plays them. Or if a bunch are created, but never played past early levels? Revamp, a la stalkers and doms? -
As others have said, you'll have to dismiss your pets before you can resummon, otherwise the resummon command will fail. I can usually get them all back though by going back down the elevator, waiting a sec, then back up again.
Yes, it is very annoying. It's especially so when you go into the bank on a mayhem, and find yourself facing a giant longbow ambush all on your lonesome. Now, I just wait outside the bank for the ambush.
I really hope they fix it soon. -

If NCSoft misses out on sales they otherwise would have had due to crappy marketing, isn't it better that they know about them and why?

Quote:I'm sure there is more than 1-20 content, if only because there has to be a way for post-20s to switch over. But how much more? A story arc or two? 10? 20? What have they actually *said* is in GR? Not much, yet. And yes, there's Castle's new end-game system, but have we had confirmation that that's even in GR and not some post-GR issue? Or what it involves?Multiple new zones, lots of story arcs, and a new endgame system?
That's the thing. We can take a guess at what's in GR, and I understand them wanting to keep stuff back for surprise value, but when the time comes for "you can buy it on X date and this is what you pay for it", they really should be adding "oh, and this is what you get for your $30-40". Selling a product is a two-way thing. You tell the customers what they're getting, and they decide whether they want to pay for it or not. -
Quote:Meh. I just think of it as an "impatience tax". Kind of like on WW/BM.The only advantage to digital+pack is that you get early access. Which means early access is NOT a "little bonus," because we have to lose out on a free 30 days and physical perks to get it. That means we aren't getting early access for free, as a perk, or a thank you; we're paying at least $15 for it.

Quote:Precisely.Have they ever gotten around to telling us what is actually in Going Rogue?
I mean, they have already announced how much they want us to pay for it.
Some of us, are considering buying both because of one thing or another.
Why is it they are asking for money before actually informing us what is *in* GR?
We've had new powersets in free issues before, and new zones with story arcs in free issues before, so what's in GR that makes it worth $30 as opposed to being just another free issue? -
And what's in Going Rogue? I think that's what JazMan is getting at. Apart from 2 new powersets and new 1-20 content, what's in GR, precisely?
