    East Coast Quake

Southern Ontario shook for a good 15 seconds. My lovely spouse was shocked that I hadn't noticed at work because the the house rattled badly.

There's a lot more but the biggest ones would be:
Rainbow Avenger and the Proleterian: Showing me how to have the bleakest outlook on humanity possible and still manage to smile. Also how to make RP concept characters that can still tear you a new one...

Fury Flechette and 2 Sweet: Who pretty much completly changed the way I view and design builds and characters.
Falke it's so good to see a thread that would make even the like of us to stop growling at the universe long enough to squeeze out a grimace.

It was Snipefu who collected the dregs of the Issue 2 Blaster forums - the same malcontents who made the gaming news at the time with their historic forum hijacking - and forged them into the Legion of Freedom; the barking-mad core of which are still howling at the moon six years later. I would not still be here without him. It was that core of maniac Blasters who gave me the passion to play, including: Karma Cop, Ohms and Torakage.

CuppaJo for not subsequently banning the lot of us.

To Fury Flechette, thanks to whom I will never need to worry about influence again and who taught me how to build kick-ace characters and not give a toss about other people's rules. I'm still here because Proletarian and Falke are happy to join in on gnawing God's feet off like jackals, because boiwonder has yet to find even the most disturbing and blatantly fetishistic of my RP concepts even mildly unusual, and because Synergy One (like honey badger) don't give a **** if neither of those alts we're playing has any functioning enhancements because he's just going to charge into every single spawn and get us both killed anyway.

Finally Dechs, with whom I haven't had the pleasure of playing, but who did so much to validate my Warshade, who was MFing years before he coined the term. Dechs gets it.
  3. Defense as a whole jumped the shark about two years ago. The Golden Age of "OMGz0rz must cap def" was 2007-2008. I recall seeing experiments around that time in capped Warshades. After that of course, the devs caught up and released I12 in May of '08, which introduced Cimerora. Since then danged near all mobs introduced have had some degree of def debuff which can handily shut down that hard won couple of billion's worth of set bonuses. Isn't going to matter much farming CoT, but Malta, Praetorians, Cimerorans, etc., yeah.

Now - and bracing myself for the howling - there is a way at 50 of achieving at least a degree of the survivability being sought in defense and that is using the Diamagnetic Interface for the foe tohit debuff. Yes, everyone uses Reactive. I have Reactive: in fact I have both.

Just for giggles I ran an experiment the other night: I went to RWZ and ran four rounds of Borea missions - two with Diamagnetic Total Core and two with Reactive Total Core (i.e. the comparable t3s). I used a middling farm setting of +1x8. My current build has 15% ranged and melee defense. The result with Diamagnetic was a very noticeable difference in toughness. A debuff of foe -5% tohit does NOT translate to -5% incoming damage. It's more - much more, on the order of 20%. And unlike defense, tohit debuff won't be immediately negated by unresistable foe def debuffs. An interesting experiment would be to reproduce the same four runs on Cim maps and see what difference the Interface variations make with def-debuffing mobs.

I am the MFing Warshade. I don't do happy sparkly colours. I lurk in the shadows of my unctuous auras, wreathed in ultraviolet darkness. Mysterious, ominous, unattainable... Right up to the point where I faceplant and flash the whole team with my bright blue-for-a-boy underpants that this game forces me to wear.

That being said, I'm against this. Emphatically.

What we do NOT need is another MM set with larger-than-human pets cramming themselves into narrow hallways and door. And no doubt, screaming obnoxiously and setting out fire effects at random.

Roll a demon MM and be content :P
    A thousand times, this.

The other seven people on your team aren't paying fifteen bucks a month to stand on the wrong side of a sewer door and stare at your pet's butt.
  6. You can perma Eclipse with 120% recharge if you have Spiritual Core Paragon (i.e. the tier 4). This means that with five LotGs and efficient set bonusing you can permaclipse without Hasten.

Bling bling gold and moody goth purple? Ick.
  7. Dosadi (Huntsman) 48-50.
Katjusha (Blaster) 22-26. Thank you Posi.

    Worked. Worked a lot. Meh.
  8. TBH, while these numbers are interesting and I salute all the long-suffering PB players out there for their well-deserved buff, I don't think this is going to stop me from deleting my 43 PB who's been sitting unloved and condemned for the last two years. perma-Light will be nice like a tourniquet on a spouting artery is nice but I don't see how it addresses the fundamental lack of a team role for Peacebringers.

The brightsquid is still hampered by the lack of a full melee or full ranged attack chain and an intrusive amount of knockback that forces them to chase their bouncing targets around. And while perma-Light is lovely, it seems a poor patch job to expect players to wait until the middle 40s and/or drop a billion on five LotGs to achieve reasonable melee survivability.

Sorry, not trying to troll or rain on anyone's seafood parade. It's just how I'm interpreting this. Correct me if I'm missing something - please. On the other hand, if they make major changes to my glorious purple Warsquid o' Doom, I'm going to set fire to my own head. Devs - don't make me!
  9. My spouse can't log into his master account now because this cowpat of a system has logged our shared IP to my account and won't allow him to log into his. Apparently only my account information, questions, etc. are valid. How do people with multiple accounts get around this?
  10. The purple pet set is relatively cheap (the Obliterations will cost more) and you'll get a good return with only four slots.

Thanks for jumping in here Lashy.

The Legion of Freedom has been allied with Grae and his Knights for the six years we've both been dragging our aging spandex through this beloved alien and zombie infested burg of Paragon. It's a sad day indeed to hear that they have chosen to close their doors for good.

( To think they could have gone the LoF route and become small, inclusive and peculiar but extremely l337 instead. :P )

As we always have, we will respect any decision made by the Knights. If that is to disband, we salute you and your fallen and will honour and remember your contributions to this game. If on the other hand anyone (ok mostly anyone *glances up the thread*) want to try rebooting this behemoth, we will be happy to lend any assistance to old friends.

Derp. XP-64. I'm reinstalling onto a pair of new PCs but the other is plain old XP Pro. No problems there. DLing to the other now.
  13. I'm setting up a new PC for my lovely mate. Is there any reason this version of Windows can't run CoX? Are there any exotic connection problems I may run into? Is anyone running CoX with this OS and have any feedback?

(I did do a search for this. Apologies if my fu is faulty.)
  14. It's a red silk tassel of the sort you see in Chinese decor. I'm not 100% of the significance but I believe it's a good luck symbol. Someone conversant in the symbology of the culture I'm sure could fill us all in.
  15. Go level another villain to 20 and it will unlock again. That takes what - a half hour of PL or an afternoon the honest way? Then be thankful that the devs nerfed the level 50 requirement that the rest of us worked to to get our epic ATs.

  17. Rescue Crey Scientists:

My mission settings are +0x4 no boss, no AV. I've run this a half dozen times now and I always get boss-level Greater Devoured in this mission, usually four to six of them including the named boss at the end. About 33% of the time they will be level 51s rather than 50s. As has been suggested above, I suspect the problem may be that the mission coding specifies GREATER Devoured and there is no lieutenant version of this spawn.

Boss spawning is a little whacky in "Save the Debutantes" as well. Even at x4, multiple spawns with two Master Illusionists or an MI and Ring Mistress should not be happening. Even as downgraded lieutenants, dual MIs are a PITA.
  18. Don't think of that 10% KB chance "so low as to be useless" as "just high enough to be annoying" which is why I never never use Shadow Blast to finish off a perfectly positioned foe whom I intend to explode in a second. :P
  19. <cynical>After launch, it will become apparent that the new Fitness passives are not being granted to Kheldians because the devs forgot. This oversight will be Red Name confirmed after three months of PMs and monitor punching and fast-tracked for correction. A bug fix will be pushed to live sometime early in I21.</cynical>

For my 'Shade I figured I'd grab those energy and elemental toggles and use them to mule a couple of the mez/psi resist uniques. Although the Leadership/Vengeance idea is good too. Time to crunch some numbers.
  20. Rainbow Avenger

    Dear Devs

We totally need thirty-five cent comic books again.
  21. That the kheldian powers are overwhelmingly reskinned versions of powers from other sets has never been a secret. However I've never seen anyone actually compose a systematic list of them so this has the potential to be a very interesting thread, one perhaps to which we can all contribute. Von Krieger, you may have the makings of an interesting guide when you're done.
  22. You can but you'll get bored.
  23. At their launch in Issue 3 and for the following couple of issues, Peacebringers outnumbered Warshades by a factor of as much as six to one (based on cumulative and anecdotal reports at the time.) They were initially far more popular for a few reasons:

    - Inherent fly (versus inherent teleport which was every bit as unpopular a travel power then as now.)
    - They were thematically popular with "angel" roleplayers.
    - They are arguably easier to play at low levels and start out stronger, hence the widespread player perception of Warshades for being weak.
    - They can heal.
    - PBs were better PvPers (i.e. merely bad versus awful.)

After a while, both Kheldian ATs declined in popularity as the novelty wore off. What emerged eventually though was that as players leveled them and the pool of level 50 Khelds grew, high-level mature Warshades gained a reputation for being the more powerful and more versatile of the two classes.
  24. This explains the odd happenings with my email. An sgmate gave me a bone wings recipe on Tuesday. It vanished. I went to craft it the next day and it was gone. On the other hand I now have two Steadfast uniques. I had mailed it to my new Brute and picked up the attachment on Monday. When I next checked email on Thursday a duplicate was back in my mail queue as if I'd never picked it up. I'm dupin' rares!
