just a quick comment before i gotta split for work...
Blew through a moonfire TF last night. Team composition comprised of a bubbler and a /cold troller. Heals? what heals? we rarely got hit at all! Wait...scratch that...i think i might have gotten hit with a heal one time...and my shields were down at the time. We were taking on entire big cave rooms full of Vamps and Puppies all at the same time and not even breaking a sweat. (tho admittedly...having about 3 controllers ALL being ill/ and my dominator contributing to controls, like wormholing guys back to us, might have been a contributing factor) -
Personally...off top of my head...a good replacement for the pretty much universally hated DS could be something along the lines of Tar Patch and still be made to fit thematically with the set.
Increase Gravity
This power allows you to create an area of intense gravity, weighing down foes that try to pass through it. Targets will be slowed, unable to fly or jump while in its area of effect. Also, because the gravity is so heavy, your foes will not be able to react as quickly as they normally would, effectively decreasing their defense.
-Runspeed, -jump, -fly, -def to all
This could either be as a location aoe (click and stick like TP, OS Arrow, etc.) or as a targeted AoE.
EDIT: After i made this post and went to bed...it dawned on me...this is pretty much a gravity equivalent of earth's quicksand...which really isn't a bad thing. -
After thinking it over, I decided against the damage proc in favor of range. Being able to yank groups from a longer distance is a bit more alluring than a few points of damage that'll just piss stuff off.
Thus far at lvl 29...WH is becoming a staple power for me, although part of that may just be due to me trying to find the best ways to use it. Love smacking guys up against walls and commencing the beatdown. It's even more fun when i stick them to a war wall....or more accurately...IN a war wall. hehehe. -
Quote:thanks for the number there, Je. Now i've got a rough idea of what it could do.http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Inventio...Damage_Scaling
At level 50 the proc will only buy you 71.75 damage.
You'll only have a 1 in 5 chance of it going off: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Explosiv...mashing_Damage
Is that really worth it?
That's up to you.
Quote:I have it slotted in one of my gravs. Extra dmg is extra dmg I always say, but he could afford a 6th slot with it in there.
The one thing I'd look at instead of that proc though is a range enhancement. WH's best property is that it doesn't require LOS... if you're in range. So boosted that is great. So if I had the choice (and I'm talking I have it 5 slotted with Stupefy to begin with or I'm frankenslotting early in my career until I can get the Stupes), then I'd pick a range over the proc.
But with cardiac incarnate alpha slotting, you can now get free range boosting. So you could take advantage of that at lvl 50 and go with the proc more easily.
My 2 cents. Whatever you do, dont' put the chance for kb in there. Talk about scatter! It procs before the teleport kicks in. Which reminds me that the dmg proc is the same way. So if it kicks in, you'll definitely aggro the spawn before you tp and stun them. Expect return fire.
Thanks for the feedback you 2...appreciate it. Definitely gave me somethin to think about. -
Yeah...this is true, DC. Remebered that i also picked this up on my elec/earth dommy...tho much earlier. it's not too bad since it only hits once and everything is usually put back to sleep fairly quickly. DoT is the enemy of static field.
-
After dinging 26 the other day and picking up wormhole for the first time EVER in over 6 years...i gotta say i'm really enjoying this power. Its just so darned fun to use. Anyhoo, i was thumbing thru my enhancements screen and checked to see what kind of IO's it could slot and it hit me. Is there a damage proc i could slot into it?
Sure enough, there was. Explosive Strike: Chance for Smashing Damage. Question is...would this really be worth it to slot into wormhole? I'm already planning for at least 2 acc, and 2-3 recharge, with the last 1-2 remaining slots for either the damage proc or the damage proc and stun duration.
any suggestions? -
personally...i would avoid mud pots as using it would severely counteract your static field by way of constantly waking stuff back up, even tho SF pulses. Mobs that are awake, can hit you. Though you COULD take mud pots and simply use it for an IO mule. Pretty sure there are some decent sets you could slap into that puppy for some decent bonuses.
Alternatively, if you're going for perma-dom, there's always picking up something to slam in a LotG +7.5% rech. My Grav/Energy dom is right now @ 27 has combat jumping, stealth, and invisibility, and all 3 have the lotg 7.5. lvl 30 for him will most likely be grant invis for yet ANOTHER one. -
I've seen (and had) ninjas do that WITHOUT the "attack my target" command going...just in general aggressive/follow. For the longest time...i used a pass/att command and had them all gang up on one guy at a time...when they were done with him...target the next guy...lather rinse, repeat. worked great...till i got tired of hitting that bind all the time.
-
Ninja/Anything MM with his hyperactive, ADHD, crack-head rabbits on speed pets on aggressive. Those things will chase anything! (...I speak from experience) "Oh look...he's running all the way to the other side of the map! GET'IM!" "Hey, that guy teleported somewhere wwwaaayyyy over there where we have not been and have no idea what might be over there that could cause all kinds of untold and unforseen troubles and complications. FOLLOW HIM NOW. HE MUST NOT ESCAPE!" (point of note...i learned really fast...keep a tight leash on those lunatics...worse than someone with scrapperlock. at least they have a chance to survive....sometimes).

Have you ever tried playing a toon borne of a concept instead of "x AT, y Primary, and Z Secondary with g Epic?" I usually find that most of the toons i really enjoy playing now days are the ones that I have a concept behind (though I am still a heavy sufferer of Altism).
A couple of examples are:
Rocky Martin. A former music sensation and popstar that mysteriously transformed into living rock, complete with the ability to manipulate the earth. Earth/Earth dommy.
Tel'a Jhin Va...aka Thorn Dragon. Plant/Thorn dom. An ancient dragon that taught the druids nature magic, but was sealed inside a tree by the very people he taught and protected. Needless to say...he's pretty ticked at humanity in general.
Teek Freak (my newest project). Grav/Energy dom. Telekinetic, with energy assault as kinetic force blasts (which really isn't that far of a stretch). I tried a grav/energy dom a couple of years ago, and just could not seem to get into it all that much. Then i read a post from another forumer that had the concept of a TK toon using Grav/Psi dom. I kinda liked the idea, and kinda sorta ripped it off (sorry...it was a good idea! hehe), save for that i went with /energy which had more of a -kinetic feel. This time around...he's been a hoot, though i'm sure some of that has to do with the revamp doms had way back when (i think my first try at the combo was before the revamp).
I have several versions of my namesake character Raiken, with most of them having electric powers in one form or another. All except one...my DS/Thermal MM version of him...and plan on taking Scirocco patron for the electric part. Theme is that he got blasted by friendly fire with an experimental Longbow power nullifier, went apesh*t and ended up in the zig. He was taught to summon demons and the fires of his rage to get his revenge, and plans to see Scirocco in hopes that he can get at least a portion of his old powers back.
I've got several more, but i'll save you from my rambles...LOL.
I've got a friend that practically NEVER deletes toons...even the ones he never plays. I'll delete one every so often...but those are usually toons that never make it out of the low levels. Normally though...I'll play a toon for a while, then he may sit parked somewhere for a time while i'm frolicking in-game with somethin else, or a couple of something else's, then go back later. If it's something i never really liked to begin with...that's usually when i hit the delete key.
Edit:
I really should read a little more thoroughly. Right after finishing my post...i looked up at Seldom's post and what was one of the first things he said..."Concept" LOL. -
Quote:kinda sounds like he was running the fabled "man-build"...i.e. not taking any of his primary attacks and supplementing with pool (hah...almost typed poop...which would have been fairly appropriate in this case) powers. So basically, it's a fun-to-use conceptual niche power, that is mechanically useless.
I've seen it used only a couple times throughout my 7 year stay here, and only once was it used to any good effect. Unfortunately, that time it was on a scrapper, and the scrapper had all of one attack. So....on the plus side he kept the aggro off the team. On the minus side....he didn't really attack at all. -
Quote:I read this and thought "Beavis".I just finished up an Earth/fire Dom that I love but Fire/earth was also a very serious contender. So I'm gonna say fire/earth but grav/fire sounds like fun too.
"Heh-heh! Heh-heh! FIRE! FFFIRE!" ......Effin pyro.....lol
My 2 best were Plant/Thorn and Earth/Earth. Kinda working on an Elec/Earth...but i'm not really sure how far he's gonna make it. He's a little shy of 20 right now..but i'm having a bit of a time getting into the Elec/ groove. Solo he's not too bad...teamed...it's a little rough.
Kinda concidering giving Grav/Energy another go, on the theme of a telekinetic. Yeah... i did kinda rob the idea from another poster...but i'm going a bit of a different route with the /energy attacks being kinetically charged force attacks. <shrugz> What can i say...i kinda liked the grav as tk concept. Tho...grav/psy as a TK/Telepathy-esque could work too.
Sooo many doms...so little server space. -
Wouldn't the Council/5th Column Vampyrs be surprised when we started whipping their arses in the same way they've been doing to us for nearly 7 years?
-
Quote:Yeah...before the changes i had a plant/thorn dom that i was having a blast playing...but took a bit of a hiatus from him after a while...mid 30s i think it was. After they made the AT changes i brought him back out and was like WOW...total baddass now...YAY!Gloom and doom posts always make me laugh. I will admit I only had 1 dom back then and she was only level 24.
Post the changes, I became totally enamored with them and now have more than any other AT.
Quote:My one post in that thread is basically, "/Energy is perfect now! Power Push is awesome! Sniper Blast still takes too long to animate though!"
Of course, I ended up taking Sniper Blast for SotM set bonuses, and it actually does come in handy once in a while, so even my one little nitpick didn't hold up.
Yeah, I was /Energy when the Dom revamp came, you heard no complaints out of my mouth. The only event more exciting to me than the great revamp was Doms getting an /Energy APP with Energy Transfer, Energy Torrent, and Explosive Blast. That one was like Christmas. -
you think that's bad with an archery/ta corr? I ran that mission a while back ago with a DB/Regen scrapper and that titan gave me HELL! Capt. Castillo...i sliced, diced, and ginsu'd the everliving hell outta him. That Titan showed up...omgwtfthisSUX!!!! That thing put me down a couple of times before i finally got him. Completely emptied my tray, had to hosp, restock, and go at him again before i managed to beat that thing.
My KM/Elec scrapper on the other hand...beat...the SNOT outta that big bot. -
I just skimmed through the first couple of pages of the Dominator Archetype Revamp-Feedback thread and man...i gotta say it's actually kinda funny reading that stuff. It's hilarious (to me anyway) to see that when they made the changes back then (removed +damage from domination, increased base dom damage, and the various changes to attacks...most hated being the change to PSW), there were a good number of people crying gloom and doom and even a couple of posts saying that dommy's were dead after this. Hell...a couple of people were gonna hang up their Dominator hats and go elsewhere, some without even TESTING changes.
Now...nearly 2 years later, we commonly read posts in the Dominator forum about how Dominators are Beasts, the amounts of carnage they leave in their wake, the safety in which they leave said carnage, and even soloing endgame TF/SF's. Dominator fever has never been higher than what it is now after those changes were implemented.
ALL HAIL DOMINATORS! LONG MAY THEY REIGN!! -
Quote:you're pretty much not gonna find what you're looking for in regards to a powerset that has no targets that can resist the damage. Pretty much ever attack type has a mob type that will resist your particular brand of damage.is there such a thing as "Strongest powersets ?
i'm just curious what people consider to be strongest sets for melee or ranged ?
what is really good for solo and or groups.
before anyone asks by definition what i'm looking for by strongest powersets i meant by good damage, defense, surival, powersets that won't have targets that will resist alot of damage. things along those lines because i've played alot of powersets and still haven't found anything that completely fits.
past characters for me
ice/ice blaster
dual pistol/tech blaster
psi/grav dominator
fire/dark corruptor
bot/ff mastermind
dual blade/ninja stalker (only lvl 50)
ele/ele dominator (32)
thug/trap mastermind (12)
as you can kinda tell i'm not too big on melee however i managed to get one to 50 lol. anyway all of these tend to be decent but lack in defensive/survivability at certain points.
Robots, most undead, Carnies, and a few others resist psy damage. Alot of mid to late game stuff resists, smashing/lethal...and even some early game stuff (i'm looking at you, longbow). Negative energy has it's bane in the form of CoT ghosts. Energy is resisted by a few. Even fire and cold has it's counter-mobs. IF there are Toxic resistant mobs in the game, i'm not sure it would really matter as there isn't a powerset with any large amounts of toxic damage. There is no "one trick for everyone" damage type. -
Quote:I rest my case...LOL.Actually Quake is even better than Ice Slick, since Slick doesn't have the snazzy debuffs (It does have -run speed, but it's not like Ice is short of Run Speed debuffs besides it). Ice relies more on Slick though, which makes the lack of useful debuffs even more frustrating.
OP if you skip Quake my Ice Domis are going to hunt you down
Also...My Earth/Earth dommy Rocky Martin will hunt you down and turn you into another smash hit single. Livin la vida Rock-a! -
Echoing previous comments...you really should not skip earthquake. That would be like an Icer skipping Ice Slick. This is one of your best powers in the set, and pretty damn close, if not being, set-defining.
Like AYB said...Earth trolling is all about layers...which is kind of fitting as the Earth itself has layers...but we'll skip that lesson. Though...i tend to Stalag+Cages myself and couple QS with EQ since things can sometimes escape the quake. QS keeps them there. But that's just how i roll.
Seriously...proc be damned...do NOT skip earthquake. -
Quote:That's why i tend to alternate between Stalamites+Stone cages and Quicksand+Earthquake...that and so i can normally have one of them up for most every fight. My Earth/Psi dom felt that way, whenever the difficulty was too low.
"Here, let me drop this, and this, and then this one, and then I'll charge in and kill everything... wait, guys? Guys? DAMMIT."
The defense debuffs (slotted up, I don't remember why I did that) in quicksand and earthquake generally meant white or yellow mobs evaporate on most teams. So after quicksand-earthquake-stalagmites, I'd usually charge into melee to fire off DP and attacks only to find nothing left. -
Quote:yeah...but IIRC BaBs made the crack at someone that was b*tching about something that would be problematic, or at least difficult to achieve for a "casual player" like himself and not a hardcore player. Then he mentioned his WS.
Oh...and he's not IO'd out or anything...but...I also defied the curse. Loved my entire 1-50 trip with my WS. -

I haven't been messing with high level content or the new released rare alphas or anything but...there's a fairly large patch coming down the pipes as of right now (currently downloading it) that's clocking in at 100.5 meg. Hopefully the devz fixed the problem you guys are having. No patch notes as of yet.
Note: servers are still down... -

Currently leveling an Elec/Earth myself and even at level 16 is doing remarkably well. Hopefully he'll be as good or nearly as good as my Earth/Earth dom.
