  1. I went and added 1.5M prestige to the group today. We're still a pretty big jump away from moving up another spot in the rankings. I think we were at #6 in the list when I looked, but that was hours ago and I've been doing enough real-world stuff to not remember for sure.

    EDIT: Dang typos.

I know. I just wasn't ready for the thread to die. We still don't have price caps, and you all know how long I've been asking for them. When I find another person who wants them, no matter how wrong their reason, I try to keep the idea on everyone's mind.

    Hitting the Cap

Well done. I like what you are doing in that screenshot, but I'm not really feeling it all the way.

    I think I need more /em teabag.

  4. Now the devs don't want me to get my casual warshade artified commisionarily?

Why can't I afford to get my unnecessary artwork done with no effort?

I propose instead that the devs implement a new price cap on the market. I know that would certainly put me out of business as a seller on the market...

  6. Have been crushed by a few PvP IO price plummets in recent week. I still have 3 panaceas and 1 Shield Wall for sale which I originally listed at 75-80% last-5 pricing but are now 25-50% over last-5 pricing.

  7. If this goes well and people start using it enough to actually make an impact on your reserves, please let me know and I'll contribute. I can't imagine this will actually cost you that much, but I want to help if it does.

    PvP IOs

My understanding is that any PvP win could result in a recipe drop, but there is a 5 minute cooling off period after a recipe drop during which a player cannot get another recipe drop. But this is an area of the game I've never followed carefully so I could be way off in my understanding.

If I didn't already have such an awesome quote from another in these forums set as my .sig, I would totally use that. I'm hopeful someone else will memorialize this great comment.

  10. I just wanted to come in here and let everyone know that I listed a crafted level 49 Stupefy IO that I decided was worth nothing to me, since every character I have that could use it already had it at level 50. I put it on the market at 1 inf, because I didn't care what it sold for and because there were no bids I just wanted to slot back ASAP. The IO had value, so I didn't want to just delete it, but it didn't have value to me - I just wanted it sold to benefit someone else. The next day I logged in to play that character, and the IO had already sold for 11 million inf. I didn't want all that money. I just wanted the slot back and wanted to find the IO a good home.

To keep that money from living a meaningless life, I converted 400 million inf into prestige for my SG, dedicating the prestige to the memory of that fine IO who gave itself up for my benefit.

At the rate of one character per year kitted out in this fashion people who play 3 years would have 3, and all their alts would be pretty much what we see now.
And those 3 characters for that one person times how many tens of thousands of people who are subscribed to the game? With that many characters fully built with ultra rares would lead to you seeing at least one of them probably most of the time you play in the max-level zones.

    OK, I'll answer it.

More than 5 years. That's how long I've been playing my absolute favorite characters without getting them fully enhanced with every one of the IO sets and procs that I would like to have. I have one level 50 character I'm still playing often that has never, ever gotten a purple drop. With just about 2 years playing at level 50, he's never gotten a purple drop. But I still play him and hope to get those drops when I play him. He's even done just a little bit of PvP play, and never gotten a PvP drop. So far, I don't have a single whine I can make about not getting those drops, because he's still fun to play with just common IOs and a handful of IO procs that I've earned.

Most of the last 5 were going for 3-5M. The buyer just purchased at the typical price, rather than trying something lower. Just because you want to force yourself to have no understanding of simple concepts doesn't mean that others are as willfully ignorant. This is no anomaly - many in this forum have seen the exact same thing happen. It's standard behavior, because most people aren't as completely blind as you to reality.

    True story:

For the first time in well over a year, I recently decided I wanted to purple out 1, maybe 2, of my characters - a stalker and maybe . Now understand, I already have most of the actual IOs I want, although they are spread across many characters. I also have enough influence and infamy to buy pretty quickly the remaining IOs I would need for my stalker. But rather than pooling funds from my richest characters and finding all the purples I stored in various SG bases and market slots, I figured I'd just make the stalker earn the infamy to get what he's after, and get help from a corruptor I have who is holding a few billion in inventory and liquid funds.

At some point, I crafted a recipe I'd gotten running a mission. I don't know how it happened, but I crafted it to sell when I thought it was going for tens of millions if inf, but when I put it on the market and saw the history on it, it was only 3M, 3M, 5M, 3M, 2.7M. That amount is not worth tying up a slot on this character, because I can make far more per day per slot than 3-5M. So I listed it for 1337 (I'm just hardcore like that).

I didn't play the character the day after I listed that IO, but the day after that, I logged in and the IO had sold for 4.5M. I only asked for a little more than 1000 infamy, but someone forced me to take roughly 4,498,000 infamy more than I wanted.

The moral of this very long and dull anecdote is that sometimes, just maybe every once in a great while, the seller is not actually the person who determines the price of the IO. And from that, we can conclude that sometimes, just maybe every once in a while, some people pay 500,000,000 or 1,600,000,000 or even more just because to them they believe that IO is worth that much and would rather get it ASAP so they just go ahead and bid more than what they think everyone else is bidding so they'll get the next available.

But I do still like your idea of market caps. Please contact Positron and see if you can convince him that this is one of the best ideas put forward in the market. He doesn't seem to listen to my requests to implement price caps.

I've been out of the forum a few days, so I missed this when it first went around. But let me just say here that I completely agree with the capra hircus of the shadow realm. Please, try to convince the devs to implement price caps. I, for one, feel that even 250M may be too much. Perhaps lower it to 200M, or possibly even 100M.

There is a lot of wisdom here, folks. Clearly the best solution is for the devs to implement market caps so items can't be sold at such outrageous prices. I, for one, have called for years for the addition of the idea. It would do wonders for my characters, I'm pretty sure.

Just want to point out that I still think the people who believe this have an excellent point. Devs, please implement inf caps on listing prices. I, for one, think this is an outstanding idea that would be of immense value to me.

  18. Earlier this year I saw some salvage with 11,000+ for sale. I decided to buy everything available for under 1M, but after getting about 6,000 off the market and deleted I grew weary of my silliness. May try it again some day, but the effort just wears on me after the first few thousand.

  20. Been forgetting to contribute to the SG after joining in the first few days. Went ahead and burned 600M or 700M earlier today. Once I get a little more casually purpled on my stalker, I'm going to try to earn enough to burn another 2B on the SG.

    RagManX
  21. RagManX

    Why?

The value of a single slot on an active and educated marketeer is worth far, far, far, far more than the 440K that item cost to craft. Selling instantly for 5K something that I spent 500K to make but then having use of the slot immediately is important. Selling tomorrow for 1M something that I spent 500K to make and leaving me unable to sell all the other items I have that are worth 10M to 1.xxB is pretty much a waste. Better to delete it than list it if all I can get is a few hundred thousand in profits.

That I list it at all is only due to my attempting to save someone else a little inf who doesn't have the luxury of billions to spend. If it doesn't sell before I need that slot, I'm just going to delete it anyway.

Agreed. That's why my /Nrg def is Storm/ also. And if you learn how to use all the KB in that combo, you can be a pretty damned effective spawn grouper for your team.

  24. I have some crafted IOs I was flipping a few weeks ago. The price dropped terribly on them, and I'm trying to list my last 3 for less than I purchased them for. They are all 3 listed for 5,527,223. In the last 5 when I checked this afternoon, 3 sold for 10,000,000, 1 sold for 8,111,111, and 1 sold for 9,000,xxx (forget last 3 digits). Interestingly enough, I didn't get a single sale of my 3 listed IOs after almost a week. Almost a week, the price has been hovering right around the 10M mark, with multiple items selling per day, and someone is selling for less than me.

People, I'm *TRYING* to get rid of these at only a small loss. Too many folks out there just *WANT* to give far more than these items are listed for.
