So rather than starting a new thread I thought I'd ask this here as it is semi-related.
The "haflway" point to the lvl cap in terms of xp seems to be 44-45. But, is it really that much more xp going from 45-50 with the amount you get from mobs also increasing? I'm sure the ratio gets more out of line but it doesn't seem like it would take all that much longer.
I'm not concerned one way or the other, if I wanted a toon to lvl 50 that I wouldn't have two in the mid 30s right now lol and a gagillion alts in the teens. Just curious. -
Interesting, I didn't think about that... now to wait as patiently as possible for them to announce when the next one is lol.

Quote:I would speculate on when specifically high school ended for you, but I have my doubts on whether or not you actually graduated.Ummm, high school was over for me a loooong time ago
I caution you though.....Im a expert at making a *BLEEP* of my self on rare moments that life gets me down, but by no means does it mean your free of that rederict.
Ohhh, almost forgot! The way a person spells, uses comma's,ect....doesnt reflect on there overall intellegence,it just means they have bad writting habits.Habits im fine with.
The second part of your post that I quoted is proven with the post itself, no need to caution anyone, we're aware.
Fire_Minded pay attention... if you've not noticed your own pattern I'll point it out to you. Every post you make where you're acting like a tool (which is more and more often) is followed by people pointing it out as tactfully as possible at which point you respond by being a bigger tool. People then try to again point out how you're acting and that it's not very becomming at which point you usually stop responding which tells me "maybe it's finally sinking in" and with the OP in this thread I thought it had. I was wrong.
Take it how you will but if YOU are the only person that doesn't see an issue and EVERYONE else does... don't you think that they might have a valid point?
Finally regarding the last part I quoted... you could be a genius for all we know but the inability to convey opinions in an intelligent way makes what, if any intelligence you have irrelevant because it sounds like it's coming from a child or a mentally disabled person. The only thing worse than that is your complacency with the "habits" that make you look like a retard, which is just downright pathetic. -
So the thread started yesterday about the possibility of an upcoming double xp weekend got me thinking.
I've never been active during a double xp weekend and I'm wondering what everyone does when it happens, it's been said time and time again that this game is about the journey not the rush to lvl cap. I have to assume that a double xp weekend changes that a bit.
So, obviously you play the toons you want to get lvl'd faster but which ones take precedence. Do you make new toons or lower lvl ones to try to get them up to a higher lvl faster? Or, do you take a toon that's been sitting at lvl 41 for a while to try to get them that much closer to 50? -

I get invites for teams ALL THE TIME. I make sure I have my LFT flag up with "No blind invites please" and this ensures I get tells asking me if I want in on teams before the invite. I don't see a problem with teaming on Virtue at all. Just my 2 inf.
Slightly jealous, as I stated before I usually give up and start forming my own team but then again I'm rarely logged in for a minute before I'm ready to run missions.
I've found that if I solo for a bit because I don't want to team right away or whatever I will eventually get asked if I want to team.
Also, I have noticed that I tend to get invites much faster on my lower lvl toons than the two that are mid 30s. I imagine this is due to how many people probably decide to try a new toon, get it out of the sewers and are ready to get onto a team in the teens only to decide to delete it later lol. -
Also, I would suggest reading Heraclea's guide to managing aggro as a WP tanker
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=127125
Regarding Rise to the Challenge... any reason you're waiting until 26 to take it? Since it is your taunt aura I would highly suggest taking it sooner. Also you may want to slot it for taunt, Heraclea's guide explains the reason for this very well.
A lot of people comment on WPs weaker aggro control... I read that guide a few times before teaming with my WP/SS tank and have yet to have any aggro issues. -
Quote:I'ma take a stab at the answer to this...I didn't see it mentioned and if someone did sorry for restating it. But if you can't find a team then why not start one up?
INSTANT GRATIFICATION NAOH PLZKTHX!!!
Although technically starting a team gets you on one faster which is why I usually do start my own -
I'm by no means an expert but I had my attacks with a slot dedicated to taunt and promptly changed it once I realized that since they'll be in melee range of your aura anyway it's not really necessary and neither is taunt for that matter but if it came down to the two I would prefer having a ranged power that can taunt 5 foes at once.

I'm hoping and praying that any new map types are more "open" like the outdoor portion of safeguard missions... nothing more annoying as a tank than running around and having the camera caught on part of the map messin' with my view.

Quote:I find everything prior to build up and aim leading up to inferno unnecessary, lol typically when on my fire blaster if I run in and inferno most of the group of mobs is dead.[*]Fire/ice: I superspeed into a group, ice patch flips em, chilling embrace slows em' down, build up + aim, drop rain of fire, then FOOM inferno.
However, if you're going for style points you win! -
I've decided on shield/mace for now... Invuln/Fire sounds like fun but my biggest concern with Invuln is that from what I've read it's much easier to hold aggro and I enjoy a challenge that people say WP presents in that area.
Although... I do love Fire so I'm sure it will happen at some point lol. -
While you haven't offended me directly I have found some of your posts quite ignorant...
HOWEVER... I find it very commendable that you felt the need and followed through on a post like this... most people would use the anonymity of the internet to continue being ******* and you took the higher road.
No more booze for you!!! :P -
Quote:I agree that a point man shouldn't need to be designated... it should be assumed that it's the tank and the tank should not have a problem doing that, that's what the class was designed for. IMO the only time it should be discussed is when there's two tanks or none.Yes, I agree, sometimes it becomes obvious who the point man is without needing to make a designation, but the point is that there should be one.
For instance the team I mentioned I was in a few nights ago. It was obvious that the other tank wanted to lead the way so I simply let him and did my best to keep up. But, he was the point man. He went in first, I followed and the controllers stayed well out of the "Combat Zone" Allowing us to keep all the aggro focused where it should be. There was never an instance when the controllers went off ahead of us or without us or when I went a different direction on my own.
Team makeups may vary, but there should always be the one guy or gal that leads the way. I've seen this more times than I can remember... The team gets to a complicated intersection (room) with 5 ways to go. 3 corridoors and 2 flights of stairs, one going up and one going down. It still makes my jaw drop when one heads in each direction and I'm left wondering which one I should follow. Generally I take a quick look at my map and figure out which way the team leader went and that's the way I go, of course, unless he/she's the one standing there with me spinning in circles... Then I laugh because I find it quite amusing.
There's nothing more annoying when teaming that the scenario described above especially if you're the tank. What does come in at a close second however is a tank that is hesitant to move forward which is somewhat understandable at lower lvls but IMO after lvl 20 (if not sooner) you should really be charging in full bore like it's your job, cuz it is
Typically, when I'm tanking I ask "ready?" once at the start of each mission. Moving forward after that I go in at my pace unless someone gives me a compelling reason to slow down and am usually on the next group of mobs while what's left of the last group is falling stopping only when needed (i.e. someone dies). -
Quote:Just want to reiterate this... whether it's in game or on the forums don't EVER let anyone tell you that AT or powerset X doesn't perform well or as well as some other set. Please don't take this the wrong way (but I'm not sure how to phrase it more gently) -
You have read too much advice on the forums!
A lot of people say /dev sucks for blasters... I like it. A lot of people say a WP tanker can't hold aggro as easily as an invuln tanker, I have taken the alpha on plenty of two tank teams and usually take the alpha and do perfectly fine... maybe it's harder for me to do so... but that just makes me that much more awesomer -
Just looking for a couple opinions... I love my WP/SS tanker and I would like to make another tanker but every primary/secondary combo I try just doesn't feel as good to me as that one does. I'm considering sheild/mace as prior to CoX I played WoW and FFXI so I kinda like the idea of having a more sci-fi fantasy looking toon but I'm unsure.
Also, I think one of the things that I love about WP/SS is that for the most part the primary is passive... turn on toggles and smash.
I'm not looking for specific builds or what combo is going to do best for what TF just one that I will enjoy as much as my current one.
P.S. I know the forums see a million posts like this a day... if you've read the whole thing thank you -
Quote:Yep lol... one of the most fun teams I've been on with my tanker the scrapper ran in before me and died on probably 15% or more of all the "pulls".Another note: Scrapper players (usually) don't expect to be saved (which you probably already know), so it's okay to let them go sacrifice themselves. That's why we have the word "Scrapperlock".
It started to make me mad until I realized it didn't bother him and it wasnt hurting the team lol -
Quote:I would disagree with this to a point. My WP/SS tanker is my first tank and the only one I've gotten past lvl 10 and I have yet to have someone tell me I have trouble holding aggro. However, to counter my own point while I've never had one as a "main" toon, I've played tanks in every other MMO I've played so I'm already familiar with the basics. I picked WP for that reason and the fact that from what everyone says it is more of a challenge than some other primaries.WP gets a lot of recommendation, but I can't really suggest it for a first tanker due to the difficulty in holding aggro. WP has by far the weakest taunt aura of all tankers... it's 1.25 seconds base duration compared to Invuln's 16.9 second base duration.
To the OP it sounds like this will be your first melee in any MMO and if so you may want to listen to what others are saying but if WP sounds interesting to you give it a try just check out Heraclea's guide to aggro as a WP tanker. As I said I've tanked in other games but the mechanics in this game are different enough that I learned quite a bit from it.
Edit: I wanted to add that holding aggro is only a real issue when you have an overzealous blaster or scrapper (because it's usually one of those two ATs lol) that charges in before you... this WILL happen but any team I've been on where that's been the case the "guilty" party usually responds to their death with "oops". lol -
No lol not so much... also if you're running it through your pc speakers do your team members a favor and don't do that while using vent... feedback is baaaaaad lol
-
I've noticed that unlike some MMOs there's no real need to have all or most toons on one server so I've been considering moving some of mine for the times that Virtue goes down.
Quick question on this though, can someone refresh my memory on how much longer we have the free server transfers? I'm thinking it was through the end of January but I don't remember. -
I've used vent when playing WoW and it makes things so much easier in terms of communication. It's awkward at first because in most cases you might be talking to someone you've never met and they're referring to you out loud by your toon name lol but once you get passed that it's pretty awesome.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of WP/SS. For the most part willpower is an inactive primary focusing mostly on toggles for defense. And super strength is a lot of fun as a secondary especially if you like the HULK SMASH type of gameplay associated with it.
However, don't be turned off to a powerset or AT because someone else told you it performs below that of other sets. Fire doesn't have the defense of some sets but it can still do anything. That said since it's "weaker" in terms of defense it may not be the best set to start with if you've never played a melee toon but who cares... learn as you go -
I recently started playing a rad/dev blaster and while I doubt the -def is "all that" as you say... it's tons of fun!
