Quote:All true, but something in the last couple years changed because when the game launched the runaway problem wasnt nearly what it currently is. Now just approaching a group of 3 even con'd minions playing solo means atleast one of them is going to run.Critters run away for one of two reasons: A power or script forces them to or their "grief" flag has been set to true.
The Grief flag gets set to true when the enemy's morale breaks. Morale can break because a team mate died too quickly, or because they cannot attack their enemy effectively. So, if a group of softcapped players AoE nuke half a spawn down, the rest are pretty likely to run away -- a bunch of their team just died AND their odds of being able to retaliate are at minimal levels.
I'm not saying there isn't a problem; I am giving you, the players, more information regarding how it works internally. You should also know that runners are a part of the game and eliminating that aspect of the game isn't really likely to happen. -
Quote:The only possible gameplay down side i see to this is its possible to be abused in game. Say i take a buncha damage but im not dead yet. So i run or fly off (i guess were talking teens here or level 6 with vet rewards) get enough distance to rest do so then run right back. Rinse/repeat as needed. The subject is the suggestion. My argument is as follows:
1) Rest is a utility power that lowers downtime. Downtime in an action oriented game like City of Heroes should only be justified if there is a strong balance reason for including it.
2) Because Rest comes with significant debuffs while active (only affect self, -100% Resistance/Defense) any balance concerns are mitigated IMO.
3) Rest is a utility that provides its greatest benefit prior to characters reaching the ability to slot SOs or higher. Characters have weak endurance efficiency options and even characters with healing powers are limited by endurance (outliers like Regen notwithstanding).
4) Allowing more frequent use of Rest provide a space for more interesting and difficult encounters pre-20 because characters ever only need to survive the current encounter.
5) There is no five.
6) Or six.
7) I really should stop now huh?
8) OK, I'm done!
Right now I am limited by the recharge time for the ability to do this on a consistant basis. If there was no recharge i literally probably could do this 3-4 times during a single mob fight if i needed to. By the time we get travel powers we well outspeed most villians. And with the booster packs i would say most of us do even without travel powers.
Otherwise i love the idea, anything to limit downtime is great IMO. -
Quote:I just got done with a similar thing in paragon. I was doing the heroic Tip mission to save black panter 952. You go into the mission and are told to talk to a Longbow dude. Now im on a blaster, set to 0/+1 at the time. The Longbow dude turns into an ambush of about 6 dudes, 2 are sappers, so instantly i have no end. Oh then down the hall comes atleast 20 more malta mobs including a boss.I've wondered if the ambushes are a bit overpowered (and not just coz I was on a stalker at the time - this happened with other ATs)...
I was doing the last mission of Seer 1381's arc (where you fight Seer 001), and an ambush gets triggered...
... of TWENTY-SIX PPD AND SEERS.
On a +0/+0 character.
Kid you not... I was so astounded I was killed before I'd realized what happened, then went back, turned on Hide, and took screenshots.
I knew I was a threat to Cole's regime, but DAMN, guys!

Im sorry but even at +1 thats a bit much for a blaster. And mind you think wasnt like wave after wave but basicly about the equivilent of like 6 ambushes were showing up at one time. Honestly it would be bad enough on a brute or something, but on a blaster? -
Quote:Yes it is, especially with gremlins. At 34 i have the sleep aoe permad. I can confuse, and ST hold. so ya a group is no big deal honestly. I will admit the combo seemed a bit weak at the start but it matures nicely in the 20s.I'm currently at lvl 8 with this combo and it seems anemic right now. I'm also concerned about the endurance issues with Earth. I love the smashability. And I love the electricity.
Is it possible to have survivability against 6-10 enemies at a time once you get in the 30's? I like taking on more than 3 enemies at once. -
Well mine is now around level 29, looking forward to getting the gremlins.
Here is what i have noticed. Now take into account i rarely detail a build while i am leveling the toon and really work out nuts and bolts later on respec, so if your planning a perma, what purples, kinda mind set this is prob not your route.
Basicly i have found that the slotting on the elec side can be kinda sparse. At level 29 i think i still only have 3 slots on the AOE sleep, being 1-2 acc and a mix with 1-2 sleeps, dont recall which way it went. 5 slots on the ST hold, 2 acc, 1 recharge, 2 hold. 3 slots on the regen aura, 1 acc, 2 endmod. And in the last couple levels i just got the confuse and AOE immb, the immb is one slotted acc, confuse i think i put the last 2 slots on for 1 acc 2 confuse duration.(i was surprised to find out the confuse was an AOE honestly)
I think i have pretty much taken all the attacks i can but power boost, the fitness line and hasten and SS. Now granted the attacks right now are sparsely slotted but i figure at the rate im going the early 30s should round out attack slotting better then now.
It seems solid, and consistant to play. So none of that later bloomer kinda stuff. Its nice to pretty much have solid AOE control even if it is a sleep. I pretty much have skipped for now the AOE hold. -

Whoopy pictures of people in old clothes.
Oh well I guess low rent internet sites need to pay the bills some how, so might as well leech off pictures of a crowd that could be for any period peice. -
Quote:The thing is in how we see NC Soft deal with RMT spam and stuff in this game would show that they are normally very reluctant to ban accounts. So if they did so, IMO they must have had evidence to support the decision.Actually, a neurophysical response in a person with a mental addiction can produce a "high" through the release of adrenalin and endorphins. I'm not addicted to it, but a "gambler's high" is that rush you get when you have a good poker hand (for example). I'm an avid poker player and have learned to hide the physical response to this rush so I don't tip off other players, but trust me when I say your heartbeat really does pick up when dealt good cards.
Please don't get me wrong here...it's still up to the individual to realize they have a problem and either man up and get rid of the cause of the addiction, or get help (psychiatric). In the case of gambling, most casinos post numbers to call if you have an addiction problem and are more than willing to bar you from entry if you request it.
Here's a wonderful tidbit from the actual lawsuit:
So, the guy is suing because NCSoft didn't stop him from playing, but when they stopped him from playing he got mad and sued.
*head asplode* -
Seems like the discussion has gotten off target from the impact of this players claim to a general discussion of the validity of addiction medicine and sciences.
However i think neither actually applies to this dude. I might be reading between the lines here, but frankly this sounds like a bitter RMT dude trying to make a buck off NC Soft.
The article claims 20k hours over 5 years and 3 accounts. Averaging 11 hours per day means this guy basicly couldnt have played this game, slept and held a job really for the most part. So I would be willing to bet that the guy spent his time earning things to sell in game to support himself. He had 3 accounts set up probably sold gold, power leveling and such. NC Soft bans him and then he basicly decides "Oh well i was addicted and that is their fault."
Well i dont think so. As has been mentioned already unfortunately these jack hole lawyers will prey on smaller companies rather then take on the big boys. I see no evidence of sickness in this guy, only his greed and a desire to take revenge on having what was likely his illegal (or atleast unethical) revenue stream halted.
I know they are a smaller company but if i was NC SOFT i would have some intern research those three accounts in the server logs for anyone he teamed with, or transfered gold to or loot and look for patterns of set amounts of money being transfered etc. I would contact those other account holders and offer like free play time or something to get a statement as to what transactions happened and how much they paid. Then i would turn around and sue the dude for all the money he made selling the ingame products that nc soft owns.
Yes it would cost some money, but better to set a strong example now that they wont be taken advantage of then to allow this case to win and have every old player come out of the woodwork looking for their payday. -
Quote:I actually already burned a vet respec on my elec dom to drop jolting chain. For some reason i got it in my head it was kinda like an electric version of earthquake, something that provided mitagation. There is absolutely no reason IMO to waste a choice on a power that does one click of 4 points of damage and knocks down the enemies. The first real control power i truely liked in the set was the sleep AOE. I did take the aura which i agree seems to do a good job at end drain, i have 1 acc and 2 end mod DOs in it at this point, i might add one more acc to it when i can, but im not stressing over it until after i get SOs.I have a little level 8 Dominator that now has both of these powers, and am curious as to other players experiences with these powers.
So far I think Conductive Aura is doing a pretty decent job of sapping my opponents and keeping my own blue bar from bottoming out. Can anyone recommend slotting for this? Right now I'm thinking 2 End Mods for quicker sapping?
I'm not sure what I am supposed to be doing with Jolting Chain? It knock opponents down, which is a nice soft control, but they get up pretty quick and seem pretty miffed at me. The damage is too low to be treated as an attack (which is OK with me). I'm thinking the best use of this power is an IO mule for knockback protection and recharge via the Kinetic Crash set. Is there a good strategic use for this power? I like using it (because flopping fish are funny!), but I feel like I could probably be using it better?
Any insight from more experienced users is appreciated, thanks. -
Quote:The bottom line is that RR really wants to do a faithful to the comic book, deadpool movie. He is a fan of the mouth, breaking the fourth wall, having DP know he is in a movie etc. Now if you think about it, a studio being so single minded is going to either want a comedy/actionish(say like how Green Hornet looks now) movie that accomplishes that, or will want a summertime action blockbuster which wont allow for that kinda of traditional approach to the characters origins. The bottom line is that Ryan Reynolds really, really wants to do Deadpool, so there's no way he'd let someone else box him in and prevent him from doing it.
In some interviews i have seen from before and after his wolverine appearance, RR sounds kinda disappointed with how the character was used in the movie. So if a script comes in that doesnt appeal to his fandom for the character, i could definately see him shy off of it to do a GL sequel rather then do something for a character he likes, that he would not be proud of. -
Quote:I agree that adding an internal monologue to star wars just would be out of place. I was just pointing out that in the novels that intent becomes easier to understand when dealing with motivations of the characters because of a books ability to use thoughts that are not vocalized on screen. You make some interesting points about the Prequels, but aside from borrowing a note from 80's Dune movie and having us hear their thoughts aloud (please no), I can't see any easy way to incorporate such things without some serious rewrites. In ep 3 though he did get a bit angry at first when told he was not a Master but reigned himself in, and he did complain to Padme about how he feels held back.
Still, another missed opportunity to try to save Anakin: in Ep 2: Yoda is meditating and years Qui-Gon's scream in the Force as Anakin OBLITERATES the Tuskens that killed his mother. (the ep 2 novelization makes it quite clear that Anakin cut loose and was hurling boulders with the Force and carving them all up with his saber. The only hut left standing was the one his mother was in). Yoda knows that Skywalker is in incredible pain and likely knows that some are dying from his pain. Yet Yoda doesn't talk to Anakin in the rest of Ep 2 due to the events moving against them, but still doesn't try talking to him after things settled down?
But they could have added a scene between QuiGon and young ani in ep1 dealing with exploring how ani uses the force even without knowing it. But they glossed over it simply with a comment eluding to how no other human could handle the speed of pod racing.
As you pointed out, the books have a clearer intent on anikin when he cuts loose on the raiders. It also deals with the converstation later with Padme i think alot better also if i recall correctly. And Episode 3 i think would have worked alot better if maybe toward the begining the elude that Obiwan knows of the secret mariage so that Anikin has a sounding board for his conflicts during the movie to talk about his dreams and such. Either that or have used his relationship with Palpatine in that way. It would have i think added to the believablity of how Palpatine worked Anikin over to show a more personal relationship between them. -
This dude sounds really bitter about Lucas not accepting his ideas. Yes there was a inherent darkness to ESB but its because it was the middle act. First act introduces the characters sets up the world and the stage motivations etc. The second act puts those characters into a total no win situation, the third act, they get out of the troubles. Star Wars follows this basic dramatic formula pretty closely.
And honestly i think Kurtz was wrong. I would have been really pissed off, even at 13 when ROTJ came out, that these characters i loved died, or rode off into the sunset, etc. At that age i want a happy ending. And RTOJ mostly provided that. Star Wars wasnt intended to be a movie about the cost of wars, the price of freedom etc. Its a heroes journey about facing challenge, doing the right thing, redemption for mistakes etc. And just like other mythic hero journeys the point really is mostly to see the heroes win.
I take the prequels for what they were, and though i can sit back and say how dorky some of the dialog sounded etc, i know one thing, i had waited 25 years to see a fight between anikin and obiwan, and when they were circling on the landing platform before they started fighting, i was literally sitting on the edge of my seat. And i dont think i had been that excited in a movie since i was 13 watching the emporer taunting luke and just waiting for him to reach out for his lightsaber.
My only real complaint on the prequels is that Lucas either disreguarded or ignored things in the novels for them that make aspects of the movies make more sense. Like in ep 1 describing how anakin was able to pilot the pods by using force powers he didnt even know he had, or just "felt" in the force why he should have fired a torpedo into a dark part of the ship which ended up being the energy core.
In the second movie i think it almost all works well, acept they dont really touch on his dreams close enough, his attachment issues etc, which is really the corner stone of his gradual fall to the dark side.
And in the third movie, his fall seems clunky because they didnt use the set up in the book. In the book he feels very betrayed by the Jedi when they grant him council status becaus Palpatine wants him there, but not Master rank, which would give him access to the jedi archives to in his hopes find a way to save Padme's life. So in this way he feels the jedi are betraying him, costing him padme etc, which opens him up more to the seeds of discontent that palpatine spent years planting in side his head.
But I really try to keep inmind that these are movies primarily made to appeal to the 8-13 year old crowds, and as much as i would have liked a new set of movies made to appeal to me in my thirties, that really just wasnt going to happen. It sounds bad and i usually would say that its a bad trait of a movie to force me to do it, but when i check my brain at the theater door, i enjoyed the prequels very much. -
Quote:Accept for all intents, GL stands to possibly be a bigger film that Deadpool. Yes marvel started out strong with a decent hulk movie and a great ironman film, iron man 2 was ok, but wolverine was absolutely terrible. And RR was a part of that. Reynolds IMO would be stupid to put deadpool as the priority in that mix. There is way more likelihood that Deadpool is going to get farked up then Green Lantern.Unless he's already signed a contract for Fox along the lines of "You will do a Green Lantern Sequel regardless of whatever other things you want to do", he'll probably put more of his energies on the Deadpool movie (which is the one I care about), and shove GL off to the side.
Marvel i think with this inititive to make a movie universe, has kinda dropped the ball. They are taking the same approach to movies as they did with their comics, which is basicly a character will sell a movie, even with substandard plots. It remains to be seen, but capt A and Thor are really going to either be the make or break for marvels movies IMO. -
Quote:Which is to bad cause she is absolutely horrid on the daily show and her lack of talent becomes that much more clear when she is surrounded by those that have it.She's become VERY distracted lately with working on the Daily Show and pilots for sitcoms and such.
Whenever she does manage to get time to do the show that made her famous, she seems out of it, has no clue what is going on, responds to everything with "What?" and ultimately just spends the episode staring blankly into the camera rubbing her hair.
I wish I was making this up. -
Sorry under the new rules im gonna have to report this thread for the pictures of other games on the shelf other then COX.

It depends on the game for me. Sometime doing the open world feel IMO just gets tiresome. For instance in probably the most famous of car theft games it works great. However there is another series of games that surprises me i didnt burn out my 360 playing, where they felt that the ultimate version of paradise they wanted in the series was to go open world, or sandbox style. However IMO i buy a racing game to race, i dont want to F around all day getting to a new race location just let me proceed through the game play. But for some time now its like every developer just trys to work Open World into their game in some way even if it doesnt work for the project well.

Quote:I can just see the pitch now....So...shaky cam + unknown super heroes + famous director's kid. Unless there's some funky math going on here, that all adds up to suck.
"Dad i got this great idea, its a cross between Xmen, the blair witch project, and Spinal Tap......" -
I dont remember what series it was in, but at one point i recall in the comics him saying why he had a yellow chest symbol. Apparently he found it created a subconcious effect in the bad guys to shoot at the center of his body mass where he had the most protection.

Quote:first off its easy with 6 years under our belts to say "Oh i just enjoy the ride" many new players are seeing older players and powers and characters and just wanting that fast. Whatever like you say different strokes. Before I say anything else, let me make one thing clear. I am not a farmer. I have run a couple of farms in the past, but I find that I bore of it very quickly because, well... I just don't like running through the same map killing the same enemies over and over and over again. I know some people like it, and that's cool. Not gonna say you shouldn't be able to do it, just saying that I don't want to do it myself.
When I heard about the Mission Architect system coming out, I was very excited. I had some ideas for some stories I would love to see other players' reactions to, and now I had a way I could share them without having to find some way to blackmail Paragon Studios into hiring me. Besides, the idea of getting arrested trying to sneak into their end of year seasonal office party to take pictures was hardly appealing.
The reality is though that many people chose to use the MA system (and yes, it is the MA system, and NOT the AE system) to find the fastest path from 1 to 50. As I said, i appreciate the fact that different players prefer different play-styles and I admire the devs of CoX for managing to find a way to accommodate as many of these as feasible. In a game like CoX though, with no content (yet) that actually requires the player to be level 50, I don't see the point in racing and prefer to just enjoy the ride.
The vast number of farming and speed-leveling arcs though vastly overshadowed those with a story behind them. Because of this, people who would enjoy the types of stuff I was thinking of don't really look to MA much as it's too much trouble to wade through the garbage trying to find an arc that is worth playing.
I did publish a couple of arcs which are still out there and which do see some traffic, but for the most part, they sit unappreciated, collecting dust. Again, I can accept this. If what I put out there doesn't appeal to people, that's fine. Can't force people to like something they don't and wouldn't want to even if I could. It has, however, rather discouraged me from trying to create new stories in the future.
All of this said, I see no reason why the reward system (either XP or tickets) should be changed in any way, shape, or form. Yes, it's true that it isn't currently used the way I, personally, would have liked to have seen, but obviously there are players who enjoy it. There's no reason to force my views and opinions on them.
In short, if you don't like a particular play style, go do something else. Play the way you want to play the game and don't worry about anyone telling you that you are being stupid or playing the game wrong. If you don't like teaming with people who play a particular way, don't team with them. Go find people who enjoy the same things you do and team with them. Stop trying to get the devs to change the way things work just so everyone will be forced to play the way that you like to play.
However the simplest solution to this problem of story v farming is for the devs to finally just realize and recognize that ANY system they put in this game will if able find a way to be used for farming, leveling etc. Its the nature of the game and gamers period to want to excel.
So why stop it, just regulate it. Then why not finally just put a tag that i can tag my mission with that says its a farm. Like an alignment settting like heroic, villianous, etc. Then people can tag their farms, and others that dont want to farm but want story, can filter those farms out of their searchs. And no one has a problem that way. -
Quote:I didnt say a whole team sucked, i said that perhaps people overly use the idea that a PLd player ruined their team as an excuse for a team that maybe lacks the overall experience your speaking of.Now this I do not agree with.
Having a teammate agro half the zone can get everyone wiped easily, but that doesn't mean an entire team sucks. Having experience, but bad player playing an important role on a team can result in team wipes...but that doesn't mean the whole team sucks...or that any of the others suck.
For example, if the healers don't know how to properly heal, a whole team can end up wiped. But a skilled healer can prevent most deaths, except those of stupidity (such as a teammate leaving range of the healer).
A tank can hold agro, or he can not even take taunt and rely on his AOE to taunt...which isn't good enough. This can result in team wipes. A good tank can prevent a team wipe, so long as he is kept alive.
The point is, one player can cause major issues, so saying entire teams suck just shows your utter lack of experience.
I have seen just as many "Veteran" players get knocked into mobs that agro a whole room and cause a team wipe, its not simply something that happens with ae babies. I have seen just as many veteran tankers try and handle to much, i have seen just as many veteran healers try and mitagate to much or the wrong team member or run of and try to rez someone letting 2 others die. I have seen veteran players make assumptions that they are uber great, and then blame the rest of the team for their lack of pacing, or not taking into account the tools on their teams etc.
It becomes a convient excuse to say a PLer ruined our team. But unless your running a Master of... TF i dont see how 1 player on your team totally ruins the team or the game. You tell that inexperienced player, "Hey stay close to the healer" or "Hey dont agro multiple groups" or whatever. But a team of 6-7 good player really can run all the top end content in this game even on a team of 8. So im sorry i dont buy the excuse "The ae babies ruin the game". Yes they might make mistakes, but im pretty sure we all did at one time or another, and i dont blame a player for wanting to play the game with more then 3 powers to work with. I know i really hate the lower levels when i was comng up at game launch i would totally have choosen to skip up to 22 or so if i could have easily. -
Quote:Now even though you say you wont be responding anymore, i got to thinking upon reading this, but frankly in this game, how *****!NG bad do you and your friends suck if a "AE Baby" is causing you to team wipe over and over? I mean seriously when i am teaming with other 50s, half the team could be sitting around with their thumbs up their butts and we still do just fine.Ok it seems I have the attention of a few note worthy individuals. Yes we have all ran into that special someone who gets the team killed. We take a quick look and see "oh? this is an AE baby"? All im trying to get at is that I have SEEN with my own eyes what AE can do to newer players.
I have heard hundreds of complaints thus far from my fellow players who are just plain sick and tired of running into these new AE 50s and getting smashed for it. By the way, it may seem whiney or moany or whatever, but its just not me who watches their team mates get trashed repeatedly do to a new AE pwrlvd 50 or there abouts. So just realize I am not alone in this guys and gals I'm "not" alone.
I wont bother posting any more I have said what I have had to say. Good day.
Just a thought since i have seen this claim over and over. When i use the AE to level one of my toons, im running +2/8 man team fighting with 1 brute. When outside of the AE, I am soloing the wall mobs in the roman zone with a mind/psi dom easily. And yet over and over i hear these claims of "AE BABYZ KILL'D MY TEAM!!!1!" and i just cant help but think, maybe your team sucked to begin with and the ae baby is simply a convient excuse. As such i wouldnt be to quick to ask it to be stopped, otherwise people might finally just realize that there are sucky players out there when no other excuses exist. -
Quote:I have an idea, why dont you quit the game. Its alot easier then changing the reward meters for the AE, and then as a community were going to be saved from what ever other idiocy you have planned to spam about in the future.Ok guys not to long ago I ran into an AE lvl 50 in PI. He knows nothing about the game. Has NO CLUE how to get anywhere. Gets the entire team killed repeatedly. THIS is what AE is producing and yes in greater numbers than you might think. Please for the love of Pete take EXP away from AE all together. Then you will find out who\ss really using AE for story telling and who isnt. Maybe increase ticket count or something. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I was just watching the trailer the other day for the new one thinking why dont they make a new movie that looks like this? The quality of Lucas Arts cinematic trailers is just outstanding i would love to see the thrawn trilogy done in CGI that looked that good.
