Quote:Titan Weapons will probably be the 2hander sword. It's better for them to work on new powers than alter old ones. It will probably be awhile though.IMHO there should just be an alternate animation set for BS/ that gives you the 2-hander option. Wanted that since forever. I can't think of a reason not to give Tanks the 1-hander option though.
Also want it on Brutes, alt animations or not. Seriously. Nao. BS/ on Brutes. -
Quote:Yay i remember everyone was going EM for pvp back then, but once they gave everyone ELA it lost the advantage that it had. I just don't see why Energy Transfer still has a -health in it. There are a lot of attacks that do more than it now and dont have a self debuff. To echo the other people is this thread..yes, EM is really that bad. I also had an energy melee toon, em/da brute, that I loved to bits. It would easily have been my most played toon.
I went with EM in the first place for the damage, and cause it was good in pvp (this was before i13). Prior to the em changes..the set was good, and I didnt feel it was OP in the least. Frequently, I would duo with a friends SS brute, and while I could down a boss faster with an et, tf, et combo, his aoe was miles better. In fact, I respec'd out of whirling hands.
When they announced the changes (et was the 891320132 week animation, tf with a lower mag stun) it just killed the set for me. Nerfing the two best powers, while giving nothing back, is just retarded. Not to mention that the Total Focus change was not needed (since seismic smash from Stone also does a mag 4 mez, similar damage AND animations in a quarter of the time).
After the changes, I still played with the toon a fair bit, since I had enjoyed it so much. But like others here are saying..you end up spending most of a fight locked in your stupidly long animations, while your team mates kill everything with aoe and faster attacks. About the best thing I found was on Cysts during the ITF..since they wouldnt die so fast.
To answer your question..just consider that EM used to easily be the most popular set for brutes and tanks when I started playing, and now theres a good chance that any brute/tank you see, will be SS.
I do pvp on an EM stalker, and there I dont mind the slow attacks so much, but for pve, where aoe and fast powers are king (think fire blast) it sucks. All in all, take the idiots who thought up the changes, and Energy Transfer them in the nuts, the OLD way. -
Quote:What are you the Solo Police? Alot of powers have 16min cd's. That doesnt make them temporary powers.Using incarnate pets totally invalidates the claim to have 'solo'd' these AVs. My emp/psi fender can 'solo' a rikti pylon..just by forting and abing my Vicky incarnate pet. Is that me soloing the pylon? Of course it isnt.
The incarnate pets do insane damage, utterly insane. What's more..they have a recharge value, meaning you cant have them out all the time. Sounds a lot like a temp power to me. Of course you can get technical, and call them Incarnate Powers.
Videos are cool though.
I dont see why people get nerdy on these things. Well you use incarnate power and an inspiration at 5.01. According to my pocket protector, inspirations are not your powers.
Their in the mission by themselves. Sounds solo to me. -
Quote:Nice AV solo. I only had made a 50 fire/kin and got bored with trollerAlso, I really feel it needs to be said that the method for getting these incarnate powers is taking "grind" to a whole new level. Who the heck wants to run the same two missions over and over again ad nausium?
Not sure how the Devs expect to expand their player base with this kind of thing. It's absolutely mindnumbing.
Also, I have 6 GB of RAM on my system and Lamda grinds it to a scretching halt with lag. Frying someones computer just so you can have a bazillion wood crates in your warehouse is bad game design.
Everything is mind numbing in this game. AE farm enter, aoe, exit, repeat. Mission enter, aoe, click item, exit, repeat.
I only have 4 gb of ram and run trials all the time with out lag. It's your cpu and video card most likely. -
-
I liked energy transfer when it was a quick punch. Now its so slow i dont even see why it reduces your health.
R.I.P. Energy Melee. They might as well give it to scrappers, since they want everything. -
Quote:People run group AE's because their archtypes can't solo farm. I don't think theres a right way.So on Freedom server I usually see people advertising ticket farms. I've run with some of them and I don't think some people do it the right way. They get 6-8 people in the group, run AE maps at 54/8 and kill all the mobs even after reaching 750 ticket or even 1500 tickets. I feel if I'm going to get tickets, I'm going to try to get it as fast as possible, and that usually means solo on my SS/Fire Brute.
I personally like using the FIRE! arc (#423253) on 51/8 as it's a 5 mission arc so you can just talk to the contact and re-enter without selecting the mission again from the AE console. I kill until I get 750 tickets, click the glowie for another 750 tickets, rinse and repeat. Roughly 9000 tickets in 9 minutes, sometimes a little quicker, sometimes a little slower.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWayYE9aFL4
The 9 minutes is overall, from selecting the mission, to load in and load out times, etc. There's probably room for improvement but so far I'm satisfied with this time.
I did mess up at the end worrying about my time and clicked the glowie too quick so overall it was 8974 tickets in 9 minutes 20 second.
Influence sellers probably do it better with multiple computers.
And factor in how long it took your character to get that much recharge 6 months? over a year? 7 years? -
Quote:You can use energize and power surge before you enter. With claws fire you get the resistance toggle, a self heal and the better damage aura before level 6.
Not sure how power surge and energize are relevant when claws/elec is supposedly so much better from 1-50.
And once you get burn you can pretty much start doing regular fire farms.
This is like the poor mans farm. It helps players that never gotten to 50 or made characters that can't solo.
Players that have 50's already have full IO's and incarnates, so 54 farm is easy. Charging people for farms and playing with the market is where the money is.
At this point i dont really think NcSoft cares. If they wanted they could just disable inspirations in AE. -
I thought about doing this but then i was like wait i have enough 50's. Friends that power level me and a SS/Fire.
And doing incarnate trials all over for characters sucks. I guess this is good for solo people but then why play an mmo? -
Yay it says "Your account inventory is currently being loaded. Try again in a few moments" Thats what i got when trying to buy ascension radiance mask. I wonder if you can just buy ascension armor in freedom.
-
Maybe for solo farm, but even then theres a chance of not getting reds are anything to combine. Thats just from 3min solo runs though. Maybe with 2 min run reds would last long enough. Farming a full group of lowbies, theres a big lack of inspirations.
-
Why would anyone want to farm with claws? Theres no Build up or Rage. Does Claws just do 4 AoEs (MU 2 aoes, Burn, Spin) and throw in a Follow Up?
-
Phew i thought it was just me. I only remember i had open slots because i had put a character below the open slots. I don't want to delete anyone
-
Quote:I think people mean level 50 farming. I don't think its fair to compare when your SS hasnt even gotten Footstomp yetI tried both SS/FA and claws/FA. The claws/FA seemed faster on the lowbie maps due to Spin. The claws/FA was the 2nd toon, so I may have used the experience of SS/FA to pick better powers. Or I just enjoy watching my toon Spin and seeing all those orange numbers.
Both toons are just used for AE tickets. Right now, the claws/FA is 32 and is my goto for tickets. The SS/FA is stuck at 24 and is looking like delete bait (maybe for a new tank, troller or mastermind).
Playing either toon is more of a job to get tickets for rare salvage than something I really want to level.
Reading this thread it sounds like SS/FA can be better outside the farm, but you need some serious inf to get there.
Honestly, they seem kind of a wash, go for the concept or the powerset you like to play. -
1. DB/ELA is really heavy on powers. Just alot of good things. Most people skip nimble strike and get Sweep/Attack Vitals combo atks.
2. ELA has good survival in the trials. You can just stand in front of the towers as they shot you. Basic lethal/smashing def is good for lambda. BAF is just a zerg fest so set bonus aren't a biggie.
3. Cant really answer, i made mine defensive heavy since redraw bugs me
4. When you do trials the combos are pretty much useless when most things are dead in under 3 attacks. The mobs are also to big to line up cone attacks. Once you achieve enough recharge the combos take too long because of activation times.
5. The problem with DB is that its hard to fit in APP/PPP. You just have to get too many attacks from the main power set. Doing BAF without out APP/PPP powers is even more annoying because of the prisoners running. Without ranged you end up chasing trying to melee. I know some people that say its the too bad, but when you come from another character with MU you notice the difference. -
Hmm i thought the recharge would be higher. Wouldn't ELA and SR's 20% recharge be better since its always on? And ELA has a damage aura
-
Just wondering, what are the numbers of EA's added recharge? I mean would one target be enough for the attack chain? +Recharge aura just seems odd because in order to maximize it, you would have to run to next group as fast as possible.

Just changed the gloves to something else then back.
-
I just thought electric armor was good for trials. At first, "i was like why you guys complaining about these towers, then i got on my fa and was like it burns."
Are you wanting to reroll? Its sucks doing all the trials again and waiting for a very rare
I just usually make scrappers with SD for +damage aura. Everything else seems weaker
Without SS, damage auras dont seem that great on a scrapper. -
Every defensive powerset seems weak til SO's. The only one i liked at low levels was invul since most mobs under 20 are smashing/lethal.
Thats also why they moved taunt futher down the powerset. It is a death wish under 10. -
I just got my gloves for the ascension set and the colors won't change for all the pieces now. It's just on this character. Could be just a color bug for costumes.
Costume options shows new colors
Switched characters and reset game
Login character shows colors
Switched to other costume pieces and back. Same problem.

Quote:I leveled up half my characters before ae doing newspaper missions, frostfire runs, freakshow missions, taskforces. There's no challenge when you farm your way to the top, cherry picking what you fight, and then fight only with maximum power builds. If that's what you enjoy doing, great. If you don't enjoy doing it but you do it anyway, that's insane.
Actually playing through the regular content without twinked builds is still interesting, even though I know this game so well that I could actually tell you exactly what the data looks like for every critter in my gunsights. If I wanted to, I could play this game like Neo plays the Matrix. If I wanted to, I could shift my perspective so all I see is entity, entity, attribmod, attribmod.
I don't do that because that would be idiotic to do to something I want to enjoy playing.
Its easy to do with 8 man groups. Buff and heals make this game easy to play. I used to heal for people when the enemies were 10 levels higher than me. One hit could kill me, but theres no heal aggro in this game. So just stay ranged.
Soloed a few brutes doing newspaper missions. Duod masterminds to 50. Ran taskforces to level with supergroups. I used to run story arcs but there was never any good reward.
You want me to play a gimp characters and it will be fun? Pretty sure its called city of heroes, not city of humans.
Why did you even quote me? You didnt retort anything. Inspirations make soloing easy. Any group with a healer is easy. Incarnate powers make end game content easy. The game was decent when there was just SO's, but there was no reason for money. People would just give it away. -
Quote:SS/FA is probably gonna be flavor of the decade. The problem, IMHO, is as much as some hate things becoming homogenous, most people (yes I know you aren't one of them), like things to be the same. Ask any advertising person, and see how quickly the powers that be are quick to emulate (hell out and out copy) a success. Do I want a Defender that can support a team, blast, oh and now has mez protection and a blaster level nuke? Hell, yes I do. And to be honest so would almost everyone else. A lot of people like coke-cola, a lot of people like pepsi-cola. I dislike the way the path CoH has chosen, but I will still be playing it until they turn the lights out.
Why? The game does promote, being the same. FOTM builds and how many SS/FA brute farmer threads are out there, bear this out. However and this is the why I will always be a paying and playing customer is, I don't have to be this way. I don't play the incarnate system and politely tell people that ask, no thank you. If I want to try and solo a force fielding/electric blaster, I can. I have a SS/FA brutes, and lots of other FOTM builds, because I wanted one. I may someday try the incarnate system, hell I might tomorrow, (I drink an awful lot of coke and pepsi). I don't have to, and until they force a path down my throat for the majority of the content in this outstanding addiction I call a game, then I will always be bleating member of the flock, that just happens to stray a lot. And to be honest deep down wouldn't it be fun to have a tankmage?
I think this game has always been easy. Before ED your could just 6slot resistance and tank +8-10 level mobs.
Healing doesnt aggro.
Inspirations are op.
Incarnate powers are op.
Games adding more incarnate powers.
I just farm and do trials with friends. Not really a challenge in this game and its getting a whole lot easier every patch. -
Quote:If your pet dies fast, how are you proving your point? My 8 yr brother probably cant solo 2/4, does that make me look better if i say that?I'm Trolling ??
With your one line response of GTFO.. I guess that is how you start every conversation with a stranger you provoke them with an insult or a challenge and see how they react ?
All I am saying or defending is if vengeance is what makes a DP MM a farmer then I can farm with any toon that has 1 or 2 AOE attacks and vengeance. All I need is one player who is willing to be vengeance bait and play dead. Now I don't know how good that might be for you.
I know the one time I decided to give out free farms to people for 2 nights I ended up feeling like an American tourist in a 3rd world country where the kids won't leave you alone trying to sell you a stick of gum. For the next few weeks any time I would log on I would get someone asking for a farm or donating my services for him and his buddy. Nutshell very pushy players trying to dictate how to spend my game time.
As for the mastermind..
Your comment about being the dumbest idea shows me how narrow minded your thinking is and how limited your game play is.
Several points I want to bring up.
1. I have 15 level 50s all IO'ed and just about all can farm. I have a several of 30s and 40s toons. I only have 1 level 50 scrapper. NONE of my other 50s are Tanks, Brutes or Dominators. None of my 50 toons have purple sets. So since I can farm with many of my toons any missions, not just an AE mission.
What more do I really need ? I mean really I have at least, at a minimum 8 toons that can farm 4/8 settings and none of them have any fire or FOTHM builds you see running around. So what more do I really need in this game ?
2. I have 2 bases, one hero and one villain. Both maxed out with storage and all the storage, 3 of which are IO storage bins are also filled with assorted IOs. I have about 5 sets of 4 Kinetic Combat sets that are just sitting there for years. Just in case I want to do something.
3. Let me make a correction with the petless mastermind comment. I do have the last pet with one upgrade.I wanted the Ice sword for the look.
I just soloed 1/8 Crey fire farm at level 48 with a 1 pet mastermind. Mind you the pet dies pretty darn fast at times as I cannot keep him near me because of the AI. And its only 48 with no Alpha incarnate and not defense capped yet.
So my simple point is I am farming 1/8 with a petless mastermind that you said is : "one of the dumbest things you can do in this game regarding optimization. Your toon is beyond gimped"
So it shows you really don't have a clue.
There are players that can't solo 2/4 setting, but I am farming with my gimped toon go figure.
If you want to farm some specific special AE mission with Vengeance by all means do. And I will farm any mission I want with my gimped 1 pet mastermind. But I will disagree that any build that requires vengeance to be able to farm is the best farming blaster toon.
A ss/fire brute can hit 50 and probably do 4/8 in 4-5 mins with SO's. So if it takes any archtype longer wouldnt that be gimp?
When we talk about best farmer we mean fastest, hardest setting, solo/power leveling people. Powerleveling people for money is where vengeance comes in, you have less inspirations and harder mobs. No one cares if you want to spend 30mins in a 1/8 ae mission and call it farming. Go do the rikti pylon challenge with your one pet mastermind.
