The only issue I've seen with fliers on Apex are with Superjumping toons (none of which are mine, as I don't use it). Flier spawns a blue patch above the jumper's range of vision and when the jumper jumps to avoid one patch, he moves right into another that he couldn't see.
Otherwise, if you stay high enough and dodge your own spawns, flight is damn handy on Apex. -
In a Cim map, in a big room, I found a bridge that spanned a body of water that you could actually submerge in and swim under the bridge, and fight underwater if you pull baddies under there.
After 100 or so Apexes, I noticed that I can, with my tank, time it so I can be in melee range to Battle Maiden until the blue flames hit, cue up Seismic Smash and it's long animation, and move out of melee range and still have it hit... so essentially, I can hit her with my best melee attack while I am well out of range of her blue patch.
Capped ranged defense on a ranged squishy is well worth the cost and time investment. -
I have it all worked out with my girlfriend.
Gaming is my default setting. She is perfectly able to usurp any and all gaming time with fun, food, frolicking or fighting as long as we make a plan and I know about it ahead of time. I am not allowed to use gaming as an excuse to not help bring in the groceries, answer the phone while she is in the bathroom or cooking, or impromptu snuggling if she had a bad day. On the other hand, she is not allowed to make me feel guilty for wasting my free time in the fashion I choose.
So far so good. -

At the SF Meet and Greet, Positron said that it was their original intent with Phantom Army to have this effect, but they didn't have the tech at the time, so they went with what they have now. He said then that they are looking into ways of using the doppelganger tech for Phantom Army, but are wary to change things because there are bound to be players that get very upset at the change.
I got the impression that they love using the tech and anyplace they can find a cool way to use it, they will. -
Fo' sho. I can't wait to run a ton of Apexs this week. What a great TF, and now with spectacular WST rewards. Sign me up.

Quote:This.Consider this: some of us have more than enough shards for crafting our goodies. In fact, if you run a lot of TFs (which running them faster facilitates) you need less shards, because you don't have to spend shards creating components. Because this is how I plan and play, I have four level 50s with their very rare, and three of them have at least 30 shards left over. (I have five more 50s on their way to the very rare, and all of them also have more than enough shards.
I have no 50s with very rares, because I used the Sister Psyche WST week to get all my lowbies some progress toward the TFC and catch up the few toons that were behind from the weeks before. By the end of this Apex week, I should have 9 toons with very rare, and other one with enough Notices but not enough shards because I only recently unlocked alpha on him.
Running fast may not drop as many shards (but I don't think the difference is as extreme as people are making it out to be. Hell, last night on a 23-minute ITF, one of us got 7 shards!), but I have three of just about every component on all my active 50s. I rarely have to craft anything out of shards. And I don't do this out of planning out what each toon needs. I just run it ALL, quickly, and I end up with what I need when I need it.
Run slow if you want to go slow, but saying that there is no reason to run quickly is missing the point. -
Quote:So.... if I feel the same way about, say, the Sister Psyche TF, that it's "endlessly repetitive" and that it's "cool to skip a bit here and shorten something there" does that make me "dumb"?Granted, there are some TFs (like those found in the Shards) that are endlessly repetitive and so, to me, it is cool to skip a bit here and shorten something there... but just to run them fast for the sake of being fast is dumb to me.
Or do I have to evaluate each TF exactly as you do to avoid being considered "dumb"? -
My main, Nakoa, is a fire/stone and that is a fun combo. The AoE is nice with Tremor. It's got a ranged offering if you are into that. And Seismic Smash is awesome single-target damage.
Jump into mob, while agro is collecting around Blazing Aura, hit Buildup and Fiery Embrace. Hit Burn and Tremor and hit the biggest baddie with Seismic Smash. When the smoke clears, just about everything is dead, Burn is about done recycling, and you can finish off everyone left with the Hammer/Mallet.
It may be a slow toon in the early going as /Stone is pretty end-heavy, but I'm having a blast with it at post-50. -
Most of my 50s will be waiting until next week to get their Notice, not because Sister Psyche is so onerous, but because if I just can wait seven lousy days I can get the same things on an Apex that is quicker and a hell of a lot more fun. I've done two Sister Psyche's this week, both under an hour, both pretty fun, but I'll be satisfied if I do no more.
Manti is a great WST pick. It's a fun and easy TF. A couple of months ago, we ran a 38 minute All-Blaster Manti which was one of the best TF experiences I had in this game.
When Synapse or Citadel show up as the WST, I'll be only doing it on my toons that need it for TFC. I'd do a Dr. Q before I'd do those. -
I usually slot it with four damage procs (Oblit, Armageddon, Eradication, Scirocco), the Fury of the Gladiator proc, and a Damage/Endurance IO from one of the sets that offers the best bonus at two pieces, usually the Armageddon. If I am using the PBAoE purples in another power (like Burn, for example), I'll skip the purple proc in Blazing Aura and replace it with an Accuracy/Damage of the same set of the Damage/Endurance piece.
Procs are nice in Blazing Aura, in my opinion. -
This is totally crazy. Merms has only 4 cats.
-
Yes, but what if Marvel Studios paid you $100 every time you finished the movie? Would you watch it faster the next time, skipping parts so that you could get to the end more quickly? Would you, at least, be more understanding why your fellow movie watchers would like to skip to the exciting parts and get to the $100?
-
I also have a 50 AR/Dev that is very powerful and very fun to play, so hang in there.
But, to echo what the others are saying, slot for endurance. I find, in order for the game to be fun at lower levels, I concentrate on endurance first and foremost, until level 22, when I can get SOs. Here's what you do:
1) Three slot stamina and get three EndMod DOs in there right away.
2) The first slot in every power gets an EndRed DO.
3) After endurance has been addressed, focus on Accuracy, Recharge, and Damage, in that order.
As a blaster, you do decent damage right out of the box and doing five more points of damage in one attack is NOT going to improve your play one bit. However, not being gassed so often and being able to play through a mish without having to use Rest between every mob, really does improve your gaming experience dramatically. -
Quote:I guess I can't speak for every server, but I'm on both of Justice's "main" global channels and I think that just about every single TF hail includes information that one can use to discern whether it's a speed run or a slow run. They use words like "non-speed," "kill-most," "shard run." I team often with Uberguy and, like he says, when we send out invites to fill our team, it always reads something like: "Fast ITF, one spot avail, pst" or "speedy LGTF, 1 spot, pst."Unfortunately you're a minority. Many people just assume a speed run as the default, and if you don't do it that way you're doing it wrong.
The only times you won't see that are on TFs that are not really speedable like the Posis, Citadel, Synapse, and the like. -
Quote:Where did you find the "automatically renew" option? I just want to make sure I have no disruption in servcie. If you clicked on the "automatically renew"(i believe thats what it is called). It will Autorenew. If not you can cancel billing BEFORE it expires and then set it to 1 yr and it will bill when the current expiration date hits. You wont have a gap in service this way either.
-
This is a stupid question, I know.
I have my account set for 12-month billing. Said account expires in a few days. I would like to continue with 12-month billing.
If I do nothing, will NCSoft continue with 12-month billing, or do I have to do something to make it do so? -
Quote:Yeah. We are definitely doing different Speed Runs. A regular Speed Run of LGTF takes about 25 minutes, about 3 minutes of which I'm waiting around if I have a toon that can't make the runs on the first and last missions. I get about two shards per run, on average.Speed runs get me 20 minutes of combat, 20 minutes of standing around, maybe 1 shard, and the end reward.
So, "LGTF Speed Run" to me means about 30 minutes (including time to form), 37 merits, two shards, a Hero 1 DNA component.
I can understand why you don't like speed runs if that is all you are getting for your time. However, many of us "speeders" are getting a lot more than that. -
Why is there even an argument here?
There are good reasons for doing a "slow" run of a TF: shards, xp, purple drops, purity of the game.
There are good reasons for doing a speed run of a TF: components, more end rewards, mini-game "competition".
The game allows rewards for both styles, so why do we care when someone else does it differently than we do? There is room enough for all. -

Quote:You are not alone, but keep this in mind: You have been playing this game for just over six months. Many of us have played just over six years. I don't hate kill-most TFs, especially if I'm leveling a toon or scraping for shards, but just how many times do you think you could run the LGTF the long way and not get bored? After a while, you just want the rewards and get the damn thing over with.Am I alone on this? Can you speed TFers explain the appeal of skipping half the fun? I guess a vet player who has been there done that wouldn't want to do it again, but if you don't like the TF, why run it at all?
Speed TFs make it more fun for people who have experienced the content over and over and the only way to keep it fresh is to try and get a good time. My guess if that if you are still playing this game in six years from now, you will much prefer the speed-run LGTF. -

Quote:That's what I thought originally, but we tried that and it didn't work. I'm not sure about insufficient resources. You'd think that a computer that could run CoX shouldn't have any problem with Mid's. I'm at a loss.In that person's case, the Listlabel controls didn't draw, but the ListLabelV2 controls did; the Power button (which does not change colors when clicked on) drew, but the others (which do change colors when clicked on) did not... It sounds like things aren't refreshing when they're supposed to. (I'm not discounting the possibility of insufficient resources.)
Edit: Oh, duh. I bet that's why the OP's friend can't get Mids' to do anything when he clicks on a power--it's probably in Level-Up mode. Try having him click the button right next to the character name text box. -
Quote:It's the same whether he's running CoH or not. That screenshot does look like what he has described to me. He can usually only see the Power button, but there are spaces for the other buttons.Hmmm, winXP, so shouldn't be anything too weird there.

Sounds similar, but doesn't quite fit your situation, but it may be related, what are the system resources, and is he trying to run it while running CoH? -
Quote:The buttons are there. He just can't see them. He can click on the blank area and get reaction. He's downloaded a dozen times trying to get it to work.Missing buttons makes me think he's missing some of the files, so I would try re-downloading and reinstalling it first. As for clicking on a power and it doing nothing, I only have one idea. Have him try to hold control, alt, and shift while clicking on the power he wants, then click again without those keys held.
Oh, and a screenshot would be nice. :P
