Your Defender, whatever his power sets, will do less damage than any other class. I call that low offense. As for having low defense, I have already said that it does depend to some degree on the power set in question.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was going to read the entire thread, but I had to stop here to prevent myself from vomiting any more than you already made me.

if defender offense is too low for you, please, take your scrapper and solo a GM, can't do it? my Rad/Son certainly can. Why can I, by myself, hit the damage cap on my Kin? is that not high enough for you?

If defender defense is too low why can a FF do the RWZ challenge? also, why can my Storm, Dark, and Rad tank for 8 man teams?

Why is it that when I bring my Cold, TA, Emp, Force Field, Dark, Rad, Sonic, or Storm defender to a team that's been wiping every spawn the team doesn't wipe again?

Your entire argument is based on a terrible assumption, that every powerset should perform equally on all grounds. a FF/Energy shouldn't be able to solo as well as any scrapper because its primary is almost entirely useless solo, you also built poorly, something that I can determine when you said the best power you have is your tier 1 blast... You also most likely don't have other powers that could make you solo better. Repulsion Field, Force Bolt, Detention Field, all of these are excellent means to prevent incoming damage to yourself, I will assume you didn't take any of them. at 26 you get Repulsion bomb, which is another excellent way of preventing incoming damage.

I don't know what primary you're using with Devices, but I have no problem stunning bosses with my Taser and Screech, or Taser and Beanbag, or Taser and Stunning Shot.

Like someone else said, my only complaint is cast times.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's great if you're playing archery, AR, or sonic. If you aren't, you've got nothing to stack it with (unless you count psychic's nuke).

Especially since Lothic (last I checked) still not happy that the dves took the time to change the alakazamreact emote to bring up random objects when one the juggle emotes still don't work when hovering (even after it was pointed out that it BAB said it was fixed but got broken again).

    [/ QUOTE ]

That was me...but in my defense:
    1) I didn't know that the juggle emotes weren't working with flight at the time (technically, they were working, they were just being immediately interrupted by the flight idle animations)
    2) It took about 10 minutes to copy the giant list of FX GEOs from Propel, and then remove the ones that were way too big
    3) It made me giggle like a schoolgirl for a solid couple of hours.

the mental image of #3 makes it all worth it.

incidentally, does anyone happen to know if the pumpkin still exists as a possibility?

Just saying. We were told more info for I16 in July, now it's July.

    MORE I16 INFO NAO!

Er umm... More Issue 16 info please?

    Edit: Just for fun.

    Positron

    Back Alley Brawler, BaBs

    Castle

    Hero 1

    Manticore

    Sunstorm

    Synapse

    War Witch

*Wonders if that will somehow summon any red names.*

Technically, July 31st, 11:58 PM is still in July.

However, I would expect more juicy details by no later than Comi-con.

you shouldn't have said that, now all the fanbois will be swarming
  5. Emp/Dark is an amazing "pure support" build... but you're doing it wrong.

take Dark Pit, Tenebrous Tentacles and Night Fall, use them a lot, team takes a lot less damage, therefore, you are doing more support.

You can even slot TT and NF for to-hit debuffs and make it even better!

also, a pure support empath without leadership? really? drop fly, drop concealment get those 3 powers.

if I were absolutely *forced* to roll a pure support emp/dark, I'd probably go something more along the lines of this

    CoX Lite?

    [ QUOTE ]
    *nod*

I'm seeing $800-$1k notebooks with real graphics cards as opposed to integrated these days. Been somewhat tempted, too.

Maybe once Win7 comes out. (Though it'll have to be a bit more than $1k. And I'll spend a few hours ripping preinstalled junk out, I know.) Already have two desktops...

    [/ QUOTE ]

no need to wait if Win7 is your biggest concern, everyone who buys a computer starting a couple weeks ago gets a free upgrade.

of course, you have to deal with vista until the end of October, but still.
  7. Psyonico

    CoX Lite?

yes, safe mode is still available AFAIK...

however, I Don't think any of the netbooks have enough processor power to handle the game, and I don't see a reason for the game to cater to such a small population.

    Oil slick + fire

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm building a Fire/Trick arrow troller (now lvl 16), and I have some questions about Oil slick.
    1) will it ignite more than one time? like there are 3 fire powers used at the same moment, will damage increase?
edit : after first answer, I'll add : if there's 3 fire attacks coming, the first doesn't ignite, can the second then the third still ignite or is it a hit or miss?
    2) when it ignites will the debuff and knockdown effects last? (logically if oil burns mobs won't slip on it)
    3) what's the base duration? when the guys are aflame, does it last longer or just part time oil, part time flame?
    4) does it have a slow effect? (seems it takes slow enhancements but never seen slow effect in descritions)

    [/ QUOTE ]

    1. no, it can only ignite once
    2. you have a 5% chance to miss, so, yes, you can still ignite, if it fails to ignite, however, it won't ignite at all.
    3. it has 2 base durations, 30 seconds of knockdown/slow/-def, 10 seconds of damage, they are independent, if you immediately ignite it, you'll still have the other debuffs after the fire goes out
    4. yes, the enemies are slowed (note: no -rech, just -runspeed/jump/fly)
  11. [ QUOTE ]
I'd be happy if they just offered red/orange/yellow/green/indigo/blue/violet choices for each powerset, keeping all the powers the same general hue. That would limit the amount of customization a little (rather than the huge color palette we have for costumes, just keep it to 7) but still make it more manageable for the developers. I don't particularly *need* aqua-teal fire, for instance. Green or blue would be fine.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Believe it or not, this would be the same amount of work, or possibly more work.

Currently all of the powers have baked in colors, the way Power Customization will work is that this baked in color will be set to an alpha channel, which means it can be set to any color that they want, in theory they could give you a color wheel and let you pick literally any color and it wouldn't be any different than letting you pick the 7 colors that you mentioned, in terms of work.
  12. well, since everyone else already said it...

  13. [ QUOTE ]
I can see how they are frustrating to solo for certain builds (I.E. builds without mezz protection, or status effects of their own).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Except they have additional mez protection of their own. I was running the first Black Scorpion arc on my Ice/Therm Corr and dropped the difficulty to heroic because I hate malta... I couldn't hold the titans as LTs, so they've got at least mag 1 mez protection prior to rank modifiers.

You don't have to have been conducting any scientific inquiry or involved with any experiments for it to be Science origin. Walking down the street and getting splashed with toxic waste from a passing truck would be Science origin.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That would be a scientific accident, sitting in the sun and yelling at kids would not

    Origin question

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I'm hashing out a character idea and am looking for opinions on my origin choice:

A sunburnt Defender: The Lifeguarder. He's rad/sonic, acquiring his skills ultimately from his experiences as a lifeguard at the beach (i.e. way too much sun [radiation] and yelling at the kids to get out of rip tides [sonic]).

In your opinion, is that more science (accident/incident gone awry), mutation (powers manifested at adulthood, albeit encouraged by his experiences) or natural (intense training and innate abilities).

I'm leaning towards natural and don't really see going mutation. Your thoughts?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If it were a serious character bio, I'd say Science all the way; he ostensibly got the super aspects of his abilities from being irradiated. He's only Mutation if those were latent powers derived from inborn mutant genes.

But if it's entirely meant as a joke character, you can say Natural and it wouldn't be an issue.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd lean more toward natural or Mutation over science, there was no sort of scientific inquiry or process, his powers appeared through natural behavior, the question is was that because of an inherent mutation or not.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
I haven't tried it with Spirit Tree specifically, but it should work. PFF only stops you from affecting other people, not them from affecting you. You can also use self-healing powers while inside the PFF (Aid Self for example).

    [/ QUOTE ]

correct. PFF grants two bonuses, massive defense/resistance and OnlyAffectSelf, which is the same thing that rest grants. so, yes it will work, however, I am pretty sure you won't be able to cast it with PFF up.
  20. from the Green Machines

    [ QUOTE ]
    Primary Power - Empathy

    * Heal Aura - Required by level 1, 3 heals required
    * Heal Other - not required
    * Absorb Pain - not required but useful. 2.5 times as powerful as heal other
    * Resurrect - not required, but nice.
    * Clear Mind - Required by level 20. no slotting recommended or required
    * Fortitude - Required pick at level 12. 2 Defense slots before 22. Recharge and tohit slots to taste.
    * Recovery Aura - Required pick at level 18. 3 recharge slots by level 20. Endmod if you want but not needed.
    * Regeneration Aura - Required pick at level 26. Slot 3 recharges in it by level 27. Slot 3 heals in by level 31.
    * Adrenalin Boost - Required pick at level 32. Slot 3 recharges in it by level 33. Slot 2 heals and 1 endmod by level 38.

Secondary Powers - Any Defender Blast set

    * You should have at least 3 attacks by level 16 (more are welcome, but this is the minimum). All attacks should be slotted 3 damage and 1 acc when you can fit it. Offense is expected from all Green Machine members.
    * Your Level 38 Nuke is required. Recommended slotting for most nukes is 3 damage and 3 recharge. There will be no post-nuke crash in Green Machine. Don't worry.

    Pool Powers

    * Hasten - 3 Slotted with recharge by level 18
    * Assault - required by level 24
    * Tactics - required by level 24, slot with 3 tohit buffs by level 35.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd say Maneuvers would do you better than tactics, and since there will only be 2 of you, 3 slot fort for defense.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Fully slotted it's worth about ~40% heal; unslotted it's just a tiny bit under 20%. It has a base recharge of 20 seconds and it's interruptable in the first second of activation. It costs 13 end and takes 4.3 seconds to animate.

A secondary effect is a mez resistance (shortens mez duration) of 75% that lasts for 45 seconds.

As a tier 3 power in the Medicine pool you must have already taken either Aid Other or Stimulant and you must be level 14 or higher to take this power.

I'm reading all this info from Mid's Hero Designer ; it's also available on paragonwiki.com.

    Slotting recommendations:
SO slotting - 3 heal/1 recharge (1 interrupt reduction if on a melee toon)
IO slotting - Frankenslot Heal/Recharge from various heal sets, interrupt reduction as needed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

of course all of these values are AT specific, I believe you are giving the defender values
