I noticed this on test, it's a very nice if very subtle addition. There's also new door SFX (like the AE door outside on the upper floor uses it... no longer sounds like an air lock depressurizing)!

I noticed this before i15, unless you mean they added even more.
there have been floor SFX for quite some time, I can't give you an exact length, but as long as I can remember.

Yes, they changed the footfalls, water, and door openings, probably others. This was discussed in the clopen Beta forums. You know, since they've... been open for more than a month now.

Repurposed
Heard some new flamey sounds.
I'm only ladylike when compared to my sister.
And here I was ready to get into a flamewar over an overrated HoF arc. You disappoint me.
I like most of them. But the door sound clips kind of funny. And the basic black tarmac sound is really off. Some folks have described it as "horse hooves" and others as "bare feet slapping blacktop." Whatever the association, it doesn't feel right and is out of sync to boot.
Hopefully whomever is doing sound engineering will get another go at it. Suggestion to that dev: go lease/rent/buy yourself a decent PZM mic on a company credit card. It will make all the difference when capturing source material for these sorts of SFX.

There were different footfall sounds for different floor surfaces all the way back to the original release, but that was one of the things I noticed right away when I logged in yesterday -- there is a lot more variation in the sounds, and a lot of the old sounds have been redone, which to my ears is not always an improvement -- the 'walking on grass' sound around the SG portal in Talos Island, for example, sounds to me more like "walking through low dry brush" than "walking on grass'.

The new sounds are nice.
After hearing the old ones for years though, the new footsteps freak me out a bit when I am running around.
Violence has its own economy. Therefore, be thoughtful and precise in your investment.
I don't think a post has been made on this yet (though I'm sure someone's mentioned it here on the forums), but one of the new features in I15 seems to be footsteps SFX
That's right, we now have a whole bunch of new SFX that occur based on what type of floor is beneath our feet! I'm not sure how many different types were added, but it's small things like this that really bring some extra life to this game
