We have tons upon tons of missions where we battle villains. Nemesis, Skulls, Hellions, Praetorians, Malta, Outcasts, Circle of Thorns, etc. etc. etc. But fighting evil is only part of what we all know that heroes do.
Read any comic book, watch any movie, read any superhero book and it always starts out the same. X superhero starts his day by saving a life, or stopping a burning building. Or helping someone who's car's broken down get to day care to pick up their child on time. If you dont know what I mean read "The Death and Life of Superman by Roger Stern can set you hip to what I'm talking about.

Otherwise of the burning building event in Steel Canyon we have nothing like that in game.
We have blasters, and controllers, and scrappers, and tanks. Each of those have unique abilities that can be useful in a different type of mission.
Imagine this. You get a tip that a building is on fire in Steel Canyon. You, a fire blaster respond to the call. You enter the mission and hear someone screaming for help. Your in a timed mission now. One without a clock. You rush thru the building using your fire blaster attacks to knock thru debris to get to the trapped person. Then carry that person to safty (You can make the person a clicky then just carry them out, or even lead them out)
Now the same mission as a gravity controller. Instead of just using that same mission to blow your way through debris, use it to smother the flames and affect a rescue that way. As a tanker you battle your way thru that misison then use your taunt to give them the courage to make it to you and escape.
More can be done then just the sterotypical rescue someone trapped in a burning building mission. Have a mission where you have to navigate your way through the sewers to find gas leaks to stop.
You can make some of the missions with twists towards the end that turn it into a partial combat mission. Or even set up a combat mission and have it end up being mostly a rescue.
All missions in CoH dont have to be the same general length. I wouldnt mind a quick 5 minute mission where I save someones life from time to time. Creativity is the key and I know you guys have some of the best writers on the planet. Just give it a thought. -
I would have to say the two names that amazed me the most was getting Eternal Torch on Protector and Rock 'n Roll Outlaw, also on Protector. But I've always been somewhat lucky in the naming department. Had a toon named Paragon Steel on Protector for awhile but moved him to another server and now the name is taken. But I still hope.

I'm right there with Geko and the others. First thing I would do is cry myself a storm of tears. Then maybe consider getting a gun and trying to find those responsible for the game shutting down and shooting them. But then I'd realize this is foolish and try to log back into the game again, believing that the shutdown was a lie.
Return to crying for a bit, but eventually would just go take a shower and clean myself up and wait for Star Wars The Old Republic. Where all my characters would have City of Hero toon names.
Better never shut the game down, I might come looking for ya! -
Umm, this is a rant. No logic required here.
-
Ok, rant thread time. Been awhile since I've done that. But here goes.
Just failed a STF. Had a team of all vet players. Alittle melee heavy, but all in all it should have worked fine. Except for 1 thing. We could not defeat Ghost Widow.
I mean, What the (insert F bomb here) We fought her for over 15 minutes before we just had to give up. It's total BS that 1 mob should ruin a task force that we were easily over a hour in to. We had no problems anywhere else in the whole task force. We even ended up fighting 3 of the 4 signature villains at once. Now that went a little rough, but we managed to take out Scirroco, Black Scorpion and Mako with fatalities, but we could do it.
We could not even get Ghost Widow below 90% health. All because of the fact that we had too much melee? That is just rediculas.
It's **** like this that turns me off of the game, after 81 months.....For the first time I am seriously thinking of going to another MMO. Just because of stupid BS like this.
Now this task force is totally doable. I've done the Statesman's Task Force hundreds of times. More wins then losses, but seeing a team that's worked for over a hour end up getting denied anything on the next to last encounter of the task force because the team make up had too many people that needed to get close to Ghost Widow to do damage is just unforgivable.
No more weekly task forces for me till it's off of the STF. (F Bomb) Ghost Widow too (The character, not the dev...)
Dammit, this makes me want to play Champions Online for petes sake!
Rant is over.....*exhales* Let the flames commence!! -
Yes
Any of the 3 will be enjoyable. -
Hello all, this is actually somewhat of a 2 part question concerning the game as installed on my computer and my OS.
Right now CoH and the CoH beta test server are installed on my drive C: Which is also the drive my OS is on. I am planning on switching over from Windows XP to Windows 7 very soon (tm).
While I could just upgrade from XP to 7, I think it'll be better if I just start over from scratch. Which means formatting C and installing Windows 7 on C....But I'd rather not spend 72 million hours redownloading all the patches.
So I was wondering just how difficult is it really to move CoH and CoH BS to another drive from C. Really shouldnt be that difficult but it seems like I've had problems in the past when I tried. I have Powerdesk so it should just be simple enough to move the directories from C to E or whatever. But again, if memory serves I had problems when I tried that. -
Ugh, what the hell is it with PlayNC that makes so many people leave. I swear this place has a turn over rate that's rivaling any McDonalds or Burger King....
8, your gonna be missed. The people in Jello Shooters are gonna have a big sad tonight. You MUST become a standard part of JS chat if your gonna keep playing this game.
We love you man, just like we've loved all the mods going all the way back to Cuppajo. Please promise to stay in touch.
And in true Stripes tradition....
YOU CANT LEAVE, ALL THE PLANTS ARE GONNA DIE!! -
Well, Castle. I do wish you the best. But this kinda cheeses me off. Unfortunately for me this is a DOOM (tm) sign. Let me hope I'm wrong on that. But good luck in whatever you do Castle. You'll be very very very missed here.

I know exactly how the DPS meter should work. You get into a fight and open up the DPS meter window and it says.... "YOUR KICKING ***!"
Anything else would be more harmful then good. Now I'm all for numbers and stuff but there is just too much going on in a fight to make just knowing you DPS useful. Plus I agree with other posters that it would just get exploited by all the lost WoW people who are here to use to complain about others in game. No sir, no thank you much. -
I want good options for the Ice blaster. Not the hand swishing crap that we got with I19.
Otherwise I've been pretty happy at what we've been given. I guess alternate animations for Katana wouldn't be bad. -
What I think we'll see happening is a change to the color/rating system. If we delve too deep into the incarnate system then the mundane will cease to be of interest to us. Just a thought.

While playing my main (Electriic x3 blaster) and battling Praetorian Clockworks a awesome idea formed in my mind. Wouldn't it be cool if my defeat emote was the same as theirs. Which lead me to something that could lead to being interesting in the game.
How about the ability to choose our defeat emotes. There are several out there to choose from already. And making new ones is possible, although probably time consuming.
You could have basic ones like our standard defeat emote, or something more in line with your characters powersets A fire defeat emote where flames shoot out all over while you faceplant, or a ice one where your character shatters into a million pieces.
And you could unlock or even sell special death emotes. Explosive ones where you damage all the baddies around as you faceplant, or even leave a nasty secondary effect like a slow if your a ice type toon, or drained end if your a electrical based toon. It would just add another level of customization to a game that is already well known for having a huge plethora of things that you can customize. -
Xenophage, these are fantastic! If only there was a way to make these into reality.
-
Looks like it's gonna be one hell of a Task Force. Cant wait to play it. Also I like the look with the portal showing Atlas Park about half way thru the trailer.

Nobel Savage, I'm very glad to see this taking place. And very glad to see that there is a poll which allows us, the playerbase, input on how things continue from here on out.
Now with the pro's and con's I still think we should go with option 2. However, there might be another way.
If you make a sub catagory on the costume design area for newer and older model pieces then maybe we could cut the clutter a bit.
Here's the way I would see it.
Chest Pieces
Armor
Newer model pieces
1.Newer Option 1
2.Newer Option 2
Older Model pieces
1.Older Option 1
2.Older Option 2
etc.
This way, as the newer model pieces go in. They would all go into the newer model pieces subfolder under armor. You would need similar subfolders for shoulder, legs, etc.
That might help organize things a bit.

Quote:Personally, I'd really really really like the opportunity to remake the Ninja set from scratch (with the new powersets that have come along since Issue 7).
Genin as Martial Arts/Willpower Scrappers (ie. "naturals" with RttC!).
Jounin as Ninja Sword/Ninjitsu Stalkers.
Chi Master as Kinetic Melee/Dark Armor Brute (that's right, dump Oni!).
Flux approves of this. -
Quote:I ran a bot/FF MM to 50 and I have to say it was one of the more powerful primarys of all the mastermind sets. Bots are primarily a ranged attack set. So keep them back and let them shoot the crap out of anything.I was just wondering how bots were squishy wise? Are they tough or do they die easily? And how are their dps say compared to Demons?
Thanks!
Frankly once you get to level 32 every fight scene looks like a stormtrooper firefight out of Star Wars. With laser blasts going everywhere.
And I would say my level 50 bot/ff mastermind is a glorious walking path of death and destruction. -
Been playing with alot of the mastermind sets lately and I'd have to say. After getting them all pretty much half way to 50 (lvl 24 on the ninjas) I have to say wow. Ninjas kinda suck....
Have the devs said anything on ninja MM's and how they feel they run? I'm running a Ninja/pain MM and even at -1x2 with bosses disabled I'm having one hell of a time keeping my ninjas alive.
Seems like they have no defense. They're just a huge catchers mitt for anything thrown their way. Arent the ninjas in the movies really good at defense? Guess I'm getting all the weak wimpy rookie ninjas who arnt smart enough to get out of the way of anything. lol
Back to the devs thing. Has any red names said anything on how they feel Ninjas are performing? Cause I'm not impressed. -
Quote:The grief flag should be switchable and have no bearing on some toons. Certin mobs should act according to their percieved personality then a standard grief script.Last night we were running STF (no tank). All AVs on second mission were running from us as little girls. While I can understand grief flag on minions and LTs (however annoying it is), but IMO, boss and higher, especially AV and GM, shouldn't run at all, but stay put and fiteklub with us.
I can see Protean running in a fight if he thinks he can use that to his advantage. But Lord Recluse should just be too damn mean to scare in any way shape or form. And heroes like Statesman should be in it to win it no matter what, after all. That's what makes them heroes in the first place. They run twords something that causes everyone else to run away in fear.... -
Quote:Critters run away for one of two reasons: A power or script forces them to or their "grief" flag has been set to true.
The Grief flag gets set to true when the enemy's morale breaks. Morale can break because a team mate died too quickly, or because they cannot attack their enemy effectively. So, if a group of softcapped players AoE nuke half a spawn down, the rest are pretty likely to run away -- a bunch of their team just died AND their odds of being able to retaliate are at minimal levels.
I'm not saying there isn't a problem; I am giving you, the players, more information regarding how it works internally. You should also know that runners are a part of the game and eliminating that aspect of the game isn't really likely to happen.
Seems to me that this should only be half the equation then. If the mob has experienced those things why shouldnt it run to get backup?
Runners drawing aggro is a main part of some MMO's but is non existant in CoH. While that makes the game alot easier, I kinda wish it wasnt so here.
I happened to enjoy the times in EQ where we had to bail out because of a runner drawing extra mobs into the fray on their behalf. I added a extra layer of planning and responsiblity to the group as a whole. To spot potential problems and inform the controller or blaster or scrapper so that they could neutralize that problem before it ends in a team wipe. But then again, that's just my personal preference. -
Fantastic video. It's always good to see CoH fans making stuff to support the game.
BTW, the Sid Vicious version of My way? As much as I'm a Sex Pistols fan, NO THANKS!
lol
