The Rikti killing their gods and thus all magic thing is a very old piece of Lore and is only mentioned very briefly during ye olde Rikti info that use to be on the Website.

Actually I honestly suspect that the devs have forgotten this little piece of Lore themselves.
Wells are, explicitly, stated in game, 100% canonically, NOT magic.

Wait what. You are saying that 1: They are discouraging people from doing a variety of content by 2: Limiting the rewards for doing the exact same bit of content over and over.

I don't like your intrusively weird obsession with the idea that the devs are out to 'get' the playerbase.

Spoilers for First Ward, if you haven't gotten around to that yet.

First Ward demonstrated that, in this game world, if you pinch off a bit of someone's psyche, it can sort of become an entity in its own right. Pinching off a bit of a psychic as powerful as Aurora would likely make this entity a bit more substantial.

Granted, we're talking about events in deep space, here, so anything could have happened by now, but I don't see anything showing what's happened one way or the other.
Run the iTrials and then go talk to Prometheus in Ouro. Depending on how many of the trials you've run, he gives out more and more information. Yes this is a dumb way to disseminate the information.

    Anyway.

According to Prometheus, in game, Twilight's Son is from the future, a future where the Battalion have taken over the Kheldian race's Well, and enslaved them all. The khelds are used as fuel for the Battalion, as they go dimension hopping seeking more wells to consume and add to their own. Twilight's Son traveled through time to try and prevent this from happening. Wells exist in a way that just moving through time doesn't affect the connection between the well and the race, so Silos somehow got the squid attached to our well.

There's more in there, and stuff about the Talons of Vengeance, and the Furies, and such. But yeah, dopey way to put the info out there.

There is no such thing as "participation matrix." There is a single bar. If you participate enough to clear the bar, you get an entirely random reward table* and if you don't participate enough to clear the bar you get 10 threads. Threads and iXp gained from defeating mobs were set up to be distributed evenly among the entire league in the half issue that came after trials first launched.

*Unless you're in the UG trial then you get a rare or very rare because that trial blooooooows.

Well, I think --emphasis on think-- that my cousin's neighbor's ex-girlfriend's roomate heard they were doing TRIPLE xp every single weekend from now on!

"I maybe heard it somewhere" is not useful information. If you feel they would be a bad idea or a good idea that's fine, talk about that, there is an actual discussion to be had there. Weasel words like "they have hinted somewhere" do that thing where you claim to have the authority of an actual quote with none of the trouble of actually citing a source or proving your point. It is, at best, misleading.

Just saying 'no' is tantamount to you taking your ball and going home because they won't play by your rules.

I learned that it wasn't going to kill me and in fact made me a better writer generally if I put the work in and gave reasons and thought out explanations for things, because then the story hung together consistently and my players wouldn't call me out for using BS or A Wizard Did it. I was expected to be as clever if not more clever than the players and craft a believable, consistent story.

I pay to have this happen here, or at least that's what I expect. I don't find it one iota unreasonable to do so.
Tabletop RPGs and MMOs are entirely different beasts. Whatever reasoning your tabletop players threw at you for what they were doing, you could roll with. You had that flexibility, and you were dealing with a handful of people. There is none of that flexibility in an MMO, and they are dealing with thousands of people. Comparing the two in terms of what kind of writing is needed doesn't work. When you walked into your groups, you had an idea of what the other players were capable of, and could deal with it because there were five of them. Trying to establish why each of a few thousand people weren't able to bring him back doesn't work, at all.

If you need more proof wander into the RP forum and see how thrilled they all were about the Well being the source of incarnate powers. The devs DID hammer something down there, but it didn't fit a lot of characters and Words were said. So here, the devs gave people a chance to explain their own reasons for not bringing him back, or why they're unable to, and now Words are being said.

I'm not saying this story was GOOD at all, mind you, but the point you in particular are trying to make doesn't work. You're ignoring the scaling effect from a tabletop RPG to an MMO, and that's disingenuous.

  12. Agility Core gives you +End mod, +recharge, and +defense. The End mod to help your sapping skills while still slotting up for harder controls, +recharge because you're a dom, and +def because you're Ice Epic and that'll help your defense shield and any other defenses you have going.

Point. I mean, AV fights, particularly those with ambushes, are pretty niche since they so rarely happen in this game. Unless, of course, you count every single strike force and trial in the game. But who even bothers with those anymore, anyway?

Oh I dunno. If we're just looking at endgame, then a lot of those iTrials have really nasty AVs who are completely immune to phase effects but like to surround themselves with ambushes of entirely phaseable bosses. I can see new dimension shift being incredibly handy there, and that's just the endgame.

Even when leveling up, a lot of AVs like dropping ambushes on you, especially redside. Renault and Ice Mistrial both have ambushes that can mess things up while you're beating on the AV. There's also the computer fight during the ITF that usually isn't a thing but every now and then just turns horrible, or all the ambushes during the last fight of the ITF, whereupon a dimension shift patch around Rommy, especially if it catches all the spawned nictii, would be really handy. Blueside, Recluse likes summoning bosses as you're whittling him down, dimension shift would knock all those jerks out of the fight, and so on and et cetera.

EDIT: oh and "split a spawn in half?" Dimension shift is changing to a targeted phase 'patch.' Anything entering it gets phased and immobilized. And it'll be autohit now, so no more trying to pick out the one guy shooting at you.
  15. So, I was totally wrong about intuition. Paragonwiki is wrong, I should have checked in game. Intuition is hold, damage, range, radial adds defense debuff, to hit debuff and slows. The hold and damage is nice for mind/fire, everything else is eh. So take that one core. But Vigor! Vigor is Healing, Accuracy, Endurance Cost, and radial adds Fear Duration, Sleep Duration and Confusion Duration. The healing isn't much help, but everything else is. So either Nerve or Vigor, I'd say.

Any advice on this would be most appreciated.

    Doc M
Nerve, the radial path, gives you +acc, +hold duration, and +confuse, as well as some +defense and +fly, if you use either of those. But really, as a mind/ dom never missing and having your hold and confuse last longer is just swell. And since you're /fire you have access to consume, so between that and domination, you should be fine in the endurance department. Range is...well it's range, and you're a dom, you have so few Hp that even the t4 +resistance doesn't do that much for you. If you DO want more range, the new Intuition boost gives +hold, +confuse and +fly, but instead of acc and +def it gives defense debuff and range. So you'll still be awesome at what you do, but from a distance instead of never missing ever.

It would be great if they gave us a check list of all the remaining power sets that need to be proliferated with their thoughts behind them. (I'm waiting for Empathy for my Masterminds myself.)
They don't do this because people are terrible.

After stating outright their issues with porting Poison over to heroes pre-Freedom (Poisoning people isn't very heroic) there were tons of threads and comments about how they needed to port poison over already because of whatever.

We could also look at how Sunstorm posted WAAAAAY back when about why they didn't proliferate Dark to everything right away (short version: existing dark sets had weird overlaps so they'd have to redo them in clever ways, like taking cone of fear out of miasma etc etc) so people spent the next few years crying about why we didn't have Dark yet and making threads about it. Then when they did give it to us some people took the "BUT I DON'T WANT IT ANYMORE WAAAAAUGH"-Veruca-Salt approach.

You act like them coming out and saying why sets are/aren't getting proliferated will somehow satisfy these people. It won't. Synapse even came out and said that unkillable pets is a horror to deal with balance-wise, and has made a point of mentioning that the new Haunt pets will be killable, just to make sure people get it. And yet here this thread is.

People will only be satisfied when they get things exactly the way they want them, exactly when they want them, as evidenced pretty clearly by this same thread right here.

Either run trials or go to Dark Astoria and start earning threads and iXP and components to slot abilities.

There'll probably be stuff for maxed out incarnates to run too. Though I'm a little curious how the repeatable missions and such will handle level shifts given they don't factor into your threat/security level.

Still though, it's intended as an alternate place to work on building your incarnates, not as a new challenge for your maxed out pleebs.
During one of the ustreams a while back someone asked if they could put in a zone where people could use their incarnate shifts and it was said "aren't we alread..." before he got shushed.

Sure, you can only get one a week, but you can replicate this across a hundred characters. So while a 50 might be better for farming AMs serially, that's no longer competitive with massive parallelization through level 10's.
You are seriously suggesting that taking half a year to get pvp IOs is a "better" way to earn your stuff than just running tips and converting merits on a 20+?

    2. The ten runner up prizes are purely VIP time. I'm sure most people would understand the first prize being limited to the US due to cost, if the other prizes were open to everyone to win.

(Note that it's possible that MMORPG.com does prevent giving different prizes to different areas. Still, considering that even non-MMORPG.com CoH competitions are usually limited to the US, I'd say it's more likely that MMORPG.com isn't the reason for the limitation.)
No, I don't agree with you at all. MMORPG.com is running this sweepstakes. It's stated clearly on the rules page that MMORPG is running this contest and if they lied about that they would run afoul of California state law and FTC regulations regarding these kinds of contests. You are wrong. Full stop. So if you have a problem with MMORPG and how they handle things you need to take it up with them. They are the only ones who can change the rules.

Some years have passed since I won, but I still see competitions there which aren't region limited, so I don't think there has been a major rules change.

Also, MMORPG.com is currently offering a free 30 day jetpack code to both US and EU players, which means that NCsoft can give non-US players something via that site.

It's entirely possible that there are MMORPG.com regulations which indirectly make it impossible for NCsoft to offer the prize internationally, but it would still be something related to NCsoft itself, considering that other companies can and do offer prizes to the entire MMORPG.com readership.
You understand that the prize in this contest is a FLIGHT, not a book or a gamecode, right? International flights are not cheap.
