Out of all of the April Fool's items, the Liger was the least interesting of them all.
Screw the Liger, would rather have Clown Summoning be a real powerset.
I'll make you a deal. I'll buy the Liger pet at the same time I buy the Clown Summoning powerset (after the set is exhaustively tested on Beta to be as bug free as possible)... deal?

Would love to come to this with my newest blueside 50, but I don't get home until 8:30 PM Eastern on Mondays. I hope you have a lot of fun with this even and get a lot of 50's to show.

I ran that arc the other night, my character has the Feathers cape.... and it showed on Praetor Duncan's back. Guess Praetor Duncan is more into Primal fashions now that she's actually visited.

I'll be spending 2XP Weekend levelling whatever characters I can and listening to the Cape Radio's Double XP Music and Madness Weekend while doing so... pantsless

Quote:I share that sentiment... I used to take characters who I didn't play much and log on to give the Holiday Cheer present to newbies in the starting zones. When I filed a petition about this problem this year, I got the same response: that you are only supposed to only receive them free once per character ever and then use Candy Canes to purchase "similar powers" (as it was stated in the petition reply e-mail).Recently received a reply from an official source saying that the developers said that it is currently working as designed. I've been here since the 2nd Anniversary. Every Winter Event since then until last year, all my characters received the Holiday Cheer, whether they had gotten one previously or not. To say that it is working as designed after all this time beyond contemptible. I guess that anything old that gets bugged or has never worked the way it should is now going to be referred to as "working as designed" in order to free up developer time to work on new stuff that doesn't work.
Having received the Holiday Cheer every year for all this time built up expectations for myself and my wife. Giving those gifts to each other was the best thing about the event for us. I doubt we'll even log on during the event any more if this is the way it's going to be left. So, in our absence, please feel free to enjoy your new content until it gets bugged to the point that it is considered too old to fix.
This really saddens me that they now consider this a "working as intended" feature... it makes me not want to really log in during the Winter Event because I can't bring said "Holiday Cheer" without having to grind Candy Canes on each of these characters to do so. It's like they went from Bob Cratchett to Ebenezer Scrooge.
I would like an official redname response on this matter, someone who actually works on the code and they should give an explanation as to why suddenly characters who used to get these powers every year but now do not; is it a bug or a deliberate change to the code?

Count me on this list of "didn't receive the 5 Year Vet badge", even though I, like the OP, hit 5 years in game before F2P launched.
I wonder when they they will fix the problem and award the badge accordingly.

I wish you and your husband much success in China and/or wherever else your travels take you in the future.
As for internet access from China, you'll still be able to play CoH... it's where 99% of the "gold seller" spammers are from anyway
May you have a wonderful life and you will be sorely missed around here... and you and I will always have In & Out Burger (HeroCon 2009)

Maybe the devs can make them the only attackable NPCs in the D/Chalet, and once killed they do not spawn again for say... 2 hours. Oh, and make them Level 1 underlings. With no attack or defense powers.
It'd be a perfect way for us who want to get YEARS of pent up frustration concerning their constant back and forth out in a quite constructive manner

Quote:Don't forget the 1 free server transfer (which costs $10 for free/premium accounts and what we pay now before the switch) and the free Signature Story Arcs (which will cost 400PP or $5 for free/premium players according to the chart Ghost Falcon posted) as well as a server that only VIP subscribers can access. All for the same price we pay now.How do you figure, Cptn Courageous? The Red Names have said the VIP subscription price will remain the same as the current subscription price AND will include 400 Paragon Points per month for our spending pleasure.
Believe me I've looked, but I'm having trouble seeing a downside to this whole thing.
-Buxley
For a free/premium player to get all of that per month, they have to spend $20/month on PPs to purchase the Arcs and the server transfer and save up the 400 PP that VIPs get for free and they STILL can't get to the VIP server.

Quote:Vet respecs you got one every year, costume tokens a couple times a year at most and every couple of years at least... also costume tokens are not purchasable... since these server transfers are every month and have an actual monetary value attached to them, why let 12 tokens sit unused every year when you can turn each of them in for a 50% reduction (400 PP instead of the price of 800) and use those points for items that you DO want? If you could trade in those 80 costume tokens for say 100 - 200PP a token when the system is in place (if they create that option), would you do it or at least consider it? You said yourself you don't use them, so if you could actually make SOME use of them, I think you'd at least consider it.Same thing could be said about a lot of "free" things we get now. Vet respec and free costume changes aren't much of a reward if you never use them. I think Father Xmas has over 80 free costume changes banked up (most from Issues, one per costume slot unlocked, it adds up fast).
I say that it should still be an option that they consider... maybe not at CoH:F's launch, but maybe a few months later once they can datamine to see how often the free monthly server transfers are being used.

Quote:I like this idea! Server transfers are nice, but aren't much of a reward if you barely or never use them. Making the transfer tokens be turned in to Paragon Studios for 50% of the PP cost is a fair compromise. I hope they will take it into serious consideration. Can I turn in my unused server transfers for paragon points. I'd even take a hit and accept 400pp instead of the 800 (10$).
server transfers are nigh useless to me and i'll probably never use them, so I'd like the option for something else instead.

Good to know... missed it; that indeed is good news; bulk purchases should be rewarded and glad to see they are doing that.
Still wanna hear about whether we can gift PPs to other players via a purchasable code.
Ashes to ashes,
Pheonyx -
So, now we have an idea of the pricing structure for goods/services, but what is the pricing structure for purchasing Paragon Points? Will there be a discount for buying PPs in bulk, say instead of 1600 PP purchased for $20 you can buy 2000 PPs for the same $20? If not, what real incentive will there be to buy PPs in larger amounts, if at all?
Larger purchases of PPs should have a LOWER per unit price point compared to the lowest amount of PPs, NOT EQUAL!!! If I walked into a store that had a 10 for $10 sale on an item, but the normal price for said item is $1, what incentive do I have to buy 10 if I can just buy the two or three I need? The answer is there ISN'T!!!
So, basically as it stands until we see the actual breakdown of pricing for point bundles, I'm just going to collect my free 400 points and never make an additional purchase.
Also, make sure that you can gift Paragon Points to people... we've wanted to be able to have codes to gift the Booster Packs to other people and we didn't get that... at least give the option to purchase PPs and be able to gift them via a code they can enter into their account page.

So you would rather me call him a hypocrite? My calling his earlier comment ironic in that he acted "elitist" when concerning what goes on these forums and what shouldn't in his opinion was much more respectful, but when he gets angry for my now calling him a hypocrite, I shall point him in your direction because you requested the newer option. Have a enjoyable day, sir.

Quote:That may be a viable option which they are considering. But also, even if we lose Incarnate status for dropping to premium, please let us at least purchase it back with Points or better yet, Rewards.
With so many different systems being built up over the seven years of the game (Incarnates included), this is going to be a HUGE challenge for Paragon Studios to handle situations such as this potential scenario as well as others... and it will be how these situations are resolved which may well determine that the shift in business model will either usher in a new brighter era for CoH... or sign its death certificate.

Personally, I would like a Lifetime Subscription option... but with this being a 7 year old game with no foreseeable changes to the graphics quality of the character models (such as actual fingers and fine adjustments of the models in terms of faces and body shapes) $250 - $300 would be WAY too much to pay unless there was an additional incentive (like maybe 600 to 800 Paragon Points/month instead of 400, retroactive to July 1, 2011 if purchased before the CoHF business model launches). As is, the most I would pay today for a LTS for CoH would be $150 - $200 max.
With that said, with continuing my subscription, my purchasing from the Paragon Market/item store will be almost non-existent outside the monthly point stipend... and I have a feeling that there are a decent amount of others who feel the same way.
Also, I hope that they do not use the per unit purchase scale for Paragon Points which that other company with the superhero and the "45 year old, multiple TV-series sci-fi franchise" MMOs uses for their item store currency; buying in bulk amounts should be cheaper per unit when purchased in larger amounts, not equal.

Quote:True... not going to change much for me, since I will still subscribe... but since they're switching to this model, I hope that there will be a Lifetime Subscription option as well, because even after all these years, I'd still pony up that cash for that.Indeed, someone will QQ no matter what. However, by making the segregation opt-in instead of opt-out you decrease how much segregation there is which in turn hopefully leads to a better experience for the F2Pers who will hopefully upgrade to Premium or VIP accounts which at the end of the day is the main point of the entire setup.
Ashes to ashes,

Quote:Setting up an "exclusive playground" is still encouraging a F2P/VIP segregation... it's saying "pay us money and you can get away from the unwashed F2P masses and be with the cool kids"... it's a "screwed if you do, screwed if you don't" situation for Paragon Studios and much QQ will come of it on both sides of the argument.I can see a few reasons for doing it the way they are.
The BIG one is a desire to avoid encouraging a F2P/VIP segregation. Free to play players are more likely to stay and become subscribers if they feel that there is already a decent community of subscribers. If the devs set up separate F2P servers those servers will end up populated primarily by F2P players since VIP players are unlikely to actively transfer over. This in turn makes it harder to retain F2P players since it gives the impression that the game is primarily populated by non-subscribers.
Setting up a separate VIP Server is a way to provide an exclusive playground for those who desire such a thing but requiring VIPers to actively transfer to it in turn helps encourage VIPers to stay on their own servers. This helps to encourage F2Pers to integrate into the community instead of feeling like second class citizens and, as such, they are more likely to subscribe/spend money.
No matter what decision Paragon makes with regard to server access for F2Pers they are going to end up upsetting some portion of their player base. Given that I think the decision they have made is probably the best option from a business point of view.

Quote:You are quite correct... the pre-party and after party will be in Gemini Park and the main party will take place in Pocket D Monkey Fight Club.My understanding, from all the other stuff that's been coming out of The Cape staff, is that the pre- and after-party will be in Gemini Park, with the main party being in Pocket D. I could, of course, be wrong.

(This story stands out because since Pheo tends to be gruff, annoying and a little hardened from his years as an operative before his powers manifested... this very short piece shows that through all of that, there are things that still matter to him and deeply affect him emotionally)
Birthday
Dante "DJ Pheonyx" Andersen walked through the streets of Atlas Park, the sun setting on Christmas Eve. He had his hands in his pockets as a chilly wind blew between the buildings.
Dante sighed as the sun set and the stars started to shine... this day brought back a lot of memories, and it always unnerved him. He needed to get away from the crowds of shoppers and heroes getting their last minute gifts, so he activated his battle armor, the piston boots airing up in preparation of an extended upward leap. He activated the boots and they launched him skyward. After several leaps, he landed on the roof of one of the tallest buildings and powered down the armor, shifting back to his normal attire of black t-shirt with a picture of a phoenix, leather jacket and jeans with Doc Martens on his feet.
He moved to the edge of the building, looking to see the stars starting to twinkle above the statue of Atlas in front of City Hall. He sat down on the edge of the building when his cell phone rang. He promptly answered, "Hello?"
"Hi Dad... it's Emmy. Just wondering when we'll be heading over to Jaiden's for Christmas tomorrow." The voice on the phone stated.
Dante smiled at hearing the voice of his daughter from a different dimension and timeline. "Hey Emmy... I'll give you a call tomorrow when I am awake and have some coffee in me, okay? There's something I have to take care of tonight, so I will talk to you later." Dante cut the phone call short and looked out into the starry sky once again. After a long pause, a single tear slid down his left cheek as he stood up again, and before he activated his armor once again to bound towards his home he said something so softly that even someone standing next to him wouldn't have heard it, yet he hoped that the person it was intended for heard it all the way up in Heaven:
"Happy birthday, Dad." -
I had 4 unlocked character slots before today, and now they are all locked and 6 character slots listed to redeem.

Quote:That's... LOGIC! EVERYONE knows that logic never works in an internet discussion... or even a real life discussion :PAnd exactly where would you put the stairs? Above the door? I can tell you that that won't work. Stairs always go under the door. How else would people get into their basements, off their front and back porches etc. Out of their second or third floor apartments when their door is on the outside of the building?
