    SoA Av Killer

Wow, surprised to see this post resurrected.

I'm no avid AV soloer, but I have soloed pylons and that clockwork AV in the LGTF with my widow (clockwork king? He just popped up while I was AFK near the ent of one of the missions so figured "what the hell" and went for it). Of course, he has a lot of psi attacks, which widows laugh off anyways.

I've also soloed the two AVs in the last incarnate mish with my widow, not sure if they were considered true "AVs" but they went down without much hassle. As long as the RNG doesn't hit a wild streak I think a well built widow, and bane I suppose, could tackle quite a few AVs and be successful.

Are they the "ideal" AT for AV soloing? Hell no, but it's always worth an attempt in my book. Yeah, we aren't as efficient as the FotM AV soloers (bots/traps MMs, rad/sonics fenders, illusion/colds trollers... combos even a monkey could solo AVs with) but they can pull it off in the right circumstances and the right build.
  2. Great guide, I have a /FA brute and IOed it is a very sturdy build. Most folks on the brute boards sum the set up as "run in/attack/die/RotP", but RotP doesn't get as much use as I imagined it would... even on x8 maps with groups like malta.

I didn't read through all the responses, but the -one- thing for me that doens't make sense is its low cold resist values. You would think that a character engulfed in FIRE would shrug off cold attacks with ease.
  3. Could a team consisting of all non-alpha slotted characters have any chance of beating one of these new TFs? That would make for some serious bragging rights if it could be pulled off.

I can't imagine a lvl 46 even scratching a warwalker... let alone one of the AVs.
  4. Appreciate the time to confirm that guys, yeah I wasn't aware of the mechanics behind the heal. TY for the clarification!
  5. I've noticed on my /FA brute that healing flames used to heal her for 740 hitpoints per activation, which is about half of a brute's hit points at lvl 50 (1499). This makes sense because the power is slotted to be a 48-49% heal.

However, now she is fully IOed + two hit point accolades and is sitting at 1881 hit points, but her heal is still 740. Shouldn't it be scaling with the increased hit points?

I know that the performance shifter proc is reflecting her max end of 110 (with marshal and born in battle) by returning 11 points of endurance when it fires, was curious why this isn't the same with a heal and increased hit points.

This WAI or a bug of some sort?

i would like to see that build
Yeah, what Gameboy said. Widow's begin with zero resists, but gain resists as their hit points dissapear similiar to SR. What I was referring to is that if you can get some base resistance it will stack with the sliding resists and you can hit the cap for S/L, but you'll be almost dead when it happens.

Not sure how much it would affect survival, but if someone was interested in experimenting you could get the pvp unique, slotted tough and five sets of Gladiator's Strike and get @ 34% base S/L resists. With Cardiac Core Paragon slotted you could push this to 37% S/L maybe. My widow has 1622 hitpoints, so at 405 hit points she would have roughly 77% resists to S/L, 60% to psi (foresight + mind link) and 40% to all else but toxic.

Hmmm... might need to xfer to test and do some experimenting.
  7. I know it's a + end power with a huge radius (20'), but it also has + recovery at 5% per mob hit and also applies + 50% end debuff resistance. A couple questions though:

    - What's the duration on the + recovery buff? Mid's says there is a 120 second duration, but I'm assuming that's for the debuff resistance only.

    - Can consume be stacked to apply 100% end debuff resistance?

It's something I'm going to probably need to take to keep my future build alive (until I can alpha slot anyways, and even then might still need it...), so trying to get an idea what it will be able to do for me beforehand and adjust accordingly. Thanks in advance guys.

EDIT: found out the answer on the recovery bonus, lasts just 15 seconds.

Even without the Alpha ML is not too tough to perma on a night widow. As for melee AEs, widow's have spin and eviscerate (which is a 90 degree cone), once you are able to get hasten and some recharge in the build it's easy to spam BU/spin/eviscerate/repeat.

Widow's are solid choices, but I'd suggest something a little more robust if you are hellbent on making an AE toon... esp if running x8 maps with bosses. Widows are a low hitpoint AT with mostly positional defenses to keep them kicking, the more mobs you are engaging the more likely you are going to get hit (even if at the magical "softcap"). Widows have scaling resists but they don't kick in until lower than 50% health, so you can be at 60% health (which on a widow that is slotting for hp bonuses + accolades will leave you at @ 900 hps) and a KoA boss can get in a lucky shot with headsplitter and send you to the hospital...

Personally, I'd go with a brute or scrapper in as some of the above posters have suggested. Again, widows are great at AEing but aren't as sturdy as some of the other choices available.
  9. I just don't get why this was so important to folks. It didn't list specific sets, and didn't tell what powers those sets were placed into. It just listed bonuses.

It can't really show the viewer anything noteworthy that I can see, outside of maybe "I spent more money on this build than you did".
  10. My crab is a pure melee concept, and although I didn't sink a ton of infamy into him I was able to put together a crazy (read:expensive) build on mids for him with permahasten, 2200 hps w/ perma serum, 70% S/L resists (yes you read that correct), and softcapped defenses.

Took all the melee crab attacks, the crab version of VG, aim and, for the hard targets, shatter armor. Took provoke and the 6 pets as well and was going to play him as an in-your-face-take-no-sh** Arachnos mastermind. I figure that with the muscular core Alpha he could do some great damage (remember it affects pet damage as well) while being largely indestructable.

Sadly, the project has been sidelined. Maybe someday I can put the build together and see how it performs with a billion inf budget. It should do well, seeing how the common IO version was pretty robust.
  11. Note that if it interests you, with the 3% pvp resist unique and tough you can hit the 85% resist cap for S/L. You'll be at 2-3% health, but it's doable.

I'm soft capped at 52% Defense vs ranged, I'd be thrilled to find out I could actually get some defense resist.

It also lists the power as having To hit debuff resistance and a nice chunk of Recharge resist.

Did I just not notice this or what?
    Listed as "PvP only" though.

**Edit: I just completed one of the open arcs I had..apparently I never went to Cimerora to talk to that guy at the end of the arc. Ramiel is giving me missions now.

This solved it for me too, had 10 open arcs between active and inactive contacts. Just finnished up one of them the now Ramiel is offering missions.

Nice job figuring that one out =)
  14. Just checked, he's saying the exact same thing to all my lvl 50s:"Settle anything that you need to finish and then speak with me." Gonna do a file check and see if that solves anything, maybe the patch didn't fully update or something.

Edit: know what's wrong now, the patcher isn't allowing me to DL the updates, DLer keeps crashing on me.
  15. Vigilante and he won't speak to me either, strange.
  16. Yeah it's too bad they don't get access to the APPs, superior conditioning and physical perfection would be great one-slot powers for PS procs (assuming they'd get the brute's APPs).

I've always wondered if their choice to lock out VEATs from the hero pools was thematic (you break ties with Arachnos so not sure why this would be), done purposely for some reason (maybe the regen and recovery values would be over the top for physical perfection with the conditioning inherent) of just simply an oversight. Would be a nice option to have regardless.
  17. Uberguy had a lot of success with his NW soloing AVs, he mentioned some of his accomplishments in this earlier thread:

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=134441

I've soloed pylons with mine, probably not in the same catagory as an AV but I'm sure I could kill a few if I wanted. It's partially going to depend on your AV (a lethal-resistant AV like Nightstar would be a pain, an AV with primarily psi attacks would maybe give you some breathing room due to widow's high psi resists, etc).

With stacked follow up, high recharge for a good attack chain and sufficient endurance regen it shouldn't be too bad (I'd consider taking shatter armor too for its 20% resist debuff). Aid self or high hp regen (25/sec or so) would prob help too for when they get some hits on you.

I'm sure others will offer better advice than I just gave, but yeah it should be completely doable.

I know it's unique because it's stalker-only, hence why I used the term:

    u·nique (y-nk) KEY

    ADJECTIVE:

Being the only one of its kind.

Twisting words around in no way changes this.

I never said it should be stalker only, I just said it is a set specific to stalkers (which it is) and hinted at the idea that other melee ATs probably should get instead an APP due to the work involved tweaking the set for proliferation.

Except, ya know, ninjitsu is -unique- to stalkers (see above definition if you have forgotten what this means). At the time these sets or powers were put into the game proliferation was not even on the map, so hard to say what they had in mind. Controllers got seeds of confusion and plant control because the powers were a -direct- port during proliferation, as with tanks/scrappers getting elec armor and elec melee from brutes.

But ninjitsu CAN NOT be directly ported to scrappers, or tanks, or brutes in its current state. Hide would have to be removed and caltrops would have to be addressed, so a lot of changes and testing would be involved to make sure that the already top stalker defensive performer doesn't go over-the-top if ported... esp when folks (you being one) are suggesting power replacements such as "quickness", arguably the best melee passive in the game. And with a few short keystokes ninjitsu turns into the "uberset"...

And will tankers (who 'tank' and draw aggro), brutes (who want aggro for fury) and scrappers (who live for fighting) ever even use smoke flash or blinding powder? Thematically they are cool and all but of what use are they really for these ATs? With all the suggested changes to ninjitsu's powers it ceases to be ninjitsu. Which is another reason why to suggest an APP instead.

I'll agree with the original poster that it would be cool to have for scrappers (give brutes katana and I'll agree there as well), but as is it will require a lot of work. I don't think it will ever happen personally, but blindly arguing for the sake of arguing does nothing to help make this a reality. And that's what you seem to be doing.
  19. I think you will have better luck asking for a ninja-themed APP then a ninjitsu port.

Oh really? Being that only stalkers have it I'd say yeah, it's both unique to them and designed with them in mind. It has both a confuse and sleep component on top of -to hit and -perception... hardly a clone of seeds or smoke grenade as you seem to suggest.
  20. Hmmm, not sure this could be ported without causing a lot of headaches. It's specifically a stalker set and would need to have powers added to it to be effective for other ATs... a tall order considering how potent the set already is.

Yeah redside there was a farm on infinity that some guy was running a few years ago (liberate TV?) and he would charge a million or two a run to join. I would -always- join these because 75% of the time I'd walk away with enough recipes to cover the costs. I ended up getting banned from his group tho when he informed me that my not handing over the respec recipe that dropped was a "respect" thing (funny how that incompases the word too). What I got for opening my big mouth I guess, but was a pretty sweet deal overall because on a fully spawned map the chances of a purple drop weren't too bad after 3-4 runs.

But yeah, paying for MA runs when the mission in question is available to everyone and so many other will run it for free is nuts. I'm surprised to see some of these exploits are still around, I thought the imp map was killed right after MA's launch... but it's still out there somewhere.
  22. I'm torn between my 2 favorite toons, a 50 night widow or 50 elec/elec stalker. I'm leaning a bit towards the stalker, who has the craziest build I could come up with (capped hps, SCed postionals and permahasten) but, up until i19, lacked fitness and had to juggle power sink and energize (for the end discount bonus) to fuel the machine. So you can imagine my excitement for being able to slot stamina along with a few of the end uniques in health.

Both will be getting the musculature core paragons innitially, but am curious to see what the recharge alpha can do for them too.
  23. Going to pursue musculature core paragon on the NW as her end consumption is decent for her current build (I could go 9+ minutes on a pylon without worries). This could change with the i19 build as I'm adding assault to the mix (I'm curious to see what a triple-stacked FU + double assault +frenzy + 30% dam ED alpha slot does to slash), but even if there's a little end drain I figure the +30% ED damage bonus will balance it out a bit.

Hoping it works out that way anyhow =) faster I can kill, less time spent swinging the claws is my theory.

Regardless of the results, I'm hyped about this new issue.
  24. Hey thanks for the response, yeah it is hard to know because I have never seen an innate crit chance listed in it's breakdown (the narrative lists it, but wasn't sure if it still applied since the i12 upgrade went into effect).

However, the i12 changes also specifically say this:

    - All Stalker attacks now have a chance to crit while not hidden. The base chance is 10%, although some attacks have a higher chance

So I am guessing it still has the higher chance to crit. And when dealing with EC 2.0 you -want- every crit you can get!

Thanks again for the reply =)
  25. Dark melee/ ninjutsu is always a classic. The two sets compliment each other nicely.

Kinetic melee isn't bad, I have a 50 kin/DA stalker and there are some unique mechanics specific to that set. One is that the T9 has a chance to instantly recharge BU (and it doesn't crit...). The other is that its AE attack, burst, has a 100% crit from hide, where all other stalker AEs only crit 50% from hide. Also, DA's stun aura stacks well with the stuns of KM to keep bosses in line.

Elec/ is a beast on stalkers because lightning rod is a pet... and thus won't break your hidden status. BU + LR + TS crit on the biggest baddie, if he's still standing placate + assassinate. It's IMO the best stalker set, but I personally just prefer AE toons.

And defense sets > resistance sets for the most part, that seems to be the consensus. But as easy as it can be to add defense to a resistance set (or regeneration... I have multiple S/L capped toons and even an /elec that is capped to S/L/E/N) I have always held that the resistance sets have more value in the long run (as in "I'm gonna IO this set to the gills").
