Quote:That sort of thing happens all the time - somehow they get hold of your email address and you just get mass-mailed for stuff you don't necessarily have - it works really well for WoW, since they have such a huge subscriber base ... chances are they will get enought clicks on their phish to make the time spent profitable.I don't have Aion. Funny that they try to phish me for a game I don't have via email tho.
You'd be surprised at how many people think that something like THIS is a grammatically correct message sent by the game publisher:

This email warns you that <insert game publisher name here> investigating your for possible attempt sell account. Go to link below and enter required info to prevent you account to be banned for permanent ensure to enter all required info to keep account active.

Sad, but true ...
Getting back to your initial difficulty... I'll try to help by explaining my own email address situation: I have DSL and my email account through my phone company, which at one time was a small, local, family owned business. Let's call the company Alpine Telephone (not the real name, of course). My email address was "myname@alpine.com" (not my real email address, of course). The small, local, family owned Telco was bought out soon after I got the DSL service by a (I will be polite and politically correct here, even though I despise the company) larger, not local and not in the least bit family-oriented company that apparently "collects" small, local, family owned Telcos to add to its conglomeration. Let's call them HairJoint.com They gave me a new email address, "myname@hairjoint.net"... but they made my old email address an alias for the new one so that people could still use the "myname@alpine.com" address.
I use the "alpine.com" address as my official email address, simply because I really don't want to go through the hassle of changing my email address everywhere in the known universe (ok, small exaggeration - sorry). However, I discovered that when I used their webmail application to send email to people, it put the "hairjoint.net" address into the from and reply-to fields in the emails. Now, I never used the webmail application to send email to NCSoft or any other place where the email address in the headers of my email would have to precisely match the email address they had on file for me, but if I had, likely they would have sent me the same "doesn't match" message that they've sent to you.
Is it at all possible, even though you are using the same email account you've always used, that the email address in the headers is different than the one you believe you are using? Given the type of scenario above?
Just one possibility.
Sorry to be so long-winded.

Quote:Suggestion (in case anyone needs to do this again): If you have to post formulas or code of any kind, just wrap them in the code tag (left square bracket, the word code, right square bracket, the code or formula you need to post, then left square bracket, forward slash, the word code and right square bracket ... or choose the number symbol from the menu just above the message box), like this:Oh. Question on an excel sheet. I thought I had everything ready but I seem to not know syntax

I want to take the average of the sums of Di/(B4 * Ci) .

I've been selling things at the auction house for a long time now. I know that posting a high price makes for a large fee. And just because I have am IO in my inventory doesn't mean I want to craft it, so I don't need anybody reminding me that the Ceramic Armor Plate I'm trying to sell is a component in the IO I'm going to sell at the store.
When I click "Hide Useful Salvage Warning," I MEAN IT!
When I click "Hide Large Auction House Fee Warning," I MEAN IT!
What I do NOT mean is, "Warn me again, every time I try to sell anything forever, because nothing makes me happier than unnecessary mouse clicks and focus interrupts." No, that is not what HIDE means. HIDE means HIDE. As in, go the hell away.
This is a bug whether you know it or not. I hope you do.

Quote:Thanks all for the posts. The funny thing is you can change everything all the information in the NCSoft account management EXCEPT the owner's name. It's always going to belong to the same person. I don't understand why the OP's friend is having difficulty proving who he/she is. Usually, providing a credit card issued in the same name is usually enough to get the password reset, at which time you can go in and change your security questions and other info.
If that doesn't work, then try support by phone instead of e-mail.
Unfortunately, for some reason, he cannot find his Aion serial code, either, and because he is something of a neat freak, he had already deleted the confirmation email from creating the Aion account.
I am also finding it very difficult to understand how they cannot match who he is to the owner of the account. He has been on the phone with them, and is getting this kind of answer after spending time on the phone. While I am glad that they are careful about giving someone access to the account, there are lots of things they could look at to help support his account ownership. I do understand that IP addresses can be "faked" - but if the IP address of the email is the same or from the same company and region as the IP addresses that he logged into the game with and posted here on the forums with for the past several years, I would think that should help some.
He doesn't use a credit card, but generally does use a debit card for paying his subscription - I have no idea why they aren't using that to verify his ownership of the account. They should have access to or be able to verify billing information for a significant period of time previous to the account being stolen.
Oddly (or not, considering the profitability of stealing an Aion account ), they had stolen the Aion account and his NCSoft master account - but he had been able to log into his CoH account right up to the time he reported the account as stolen.
I hate gold farmers. I know it's "only a game" - but having an account stolen really makes you feel vulnerable and violated. As I said, it happened to my WoW account in January - so I've some recent experience with the issue.
Thanks again!

Quote:My Asus laptop has a 120M graphics card - I can play with UM on medium settings. Unless there is a severe disconnect in the nvidia gpu numbering system for laptops, it would seem like the 360M gpu should be significantly better than my 120M, and should be able to play with UM a bit higher... I can't be 100% sure of that, not knowing how nvidia has gone about numbering their gpu models ...I wouldn't be so sure. It's got a 360M graphics card. As far as I can tell, that's slightly inferior to a 9800GT, which is described as the minimum for activating all Ultra Mode features.
A more direct comparison would be the GT 240, but I don't know how that does with Ultra Mode.
Of course, I don't freak out until my fps gets below 15, so YMMV ...

It might be a "disconnect" if your e-mail doesn't match up.... just a thought.

Quote:I remember getting a tell from one of my global friends on the first Double XP weekend congratulating me on being the top Empathy Defender on my server... I didn't even know about the terminals until that day - and it was SO COOL for me to be the top something in an MMO... me, the geek who was generally the last one chosen to be on a team in gym class in high school... I was GOOD at something! Yay! (ok, I know that's seriously geeky)I must admit that, on the one and only occasion that I went and looked at one of those things to discover that I was the highest killer of <some mob> in the zone, it did give me a little thrill.

A friend of mine had his NCSoft master account stolen after 2 weeks playing Aion. He's played CoH for over 6 years without this ever happening.
NCSoft support is asking for information that he doesn't currently have - apparently he's lost his game serial codes over the years, relying on his master account (to which he no longer has access). He was able to supply them with one old serial number and all the personal and billing information that they requested.
So far, it's been weeks, and they are apparently saying they don't have enough to prove that his account really is his - which, based on my own experience in a different game - really seems like ... well, BS.
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with NCSoft's tech support for restoring actual owner access to a stolen account and if they could offer any ideas for me to pass on to my friend. He's got many, many characters into which he's put a lot of time, and it is very sad for me to think that a kinah farmer in Asia can screw a long time CoH player out of his hard work.
He spent several days scanning his computer with multiple tools, so the security aspect of the situation has been dealt with... I'm just looking for some ideas on how to help him get HIS account back... I wish I could "vouch" for him to NCSoft... <sigh>
Feel free to PM me if you have something that you don't want to say in the open forums.
Thanks in advance.

On the forum (discussion) thing .. However this is an i17 issue i know this for a fact .. if you want to know how i know this pm me and we can meet on test and ill introduce you to someone who has confirmed it.

I'm not saying it DIDN'T get introduced in I17, and, quite frankly, I really don't care. I'm really just saying that I don't think it is a bug. And I like it.
LOL.

Quote:This IS a discussion thread. It's a forum. This particular forum is to DISCUSS technical issues and bugs. If you want to REPORT a bug, there is a mechanism in the game to do that. If you don't want people to disagree with you... I'm afraid the only solution for that is to not post anything on the internetz...LOL wt heck .....
No this is something that just started with i17 nuff said .. its true .. stop ...
We weren't asking to raise the caps we just started chatting ........
Listen this isnt a discussion thread over what you want or what your opinions are ...
This is the place to list bugs isnt it??????????????
and this is something not added to the game intentionally .. its a bug i saw mobs this weekend travel half the map and no exaggerating
Thank You
for your input even though i wasnt asking for a discussion and listing a bug
I need an aspirin LOL
You have no idea if it was something added to the game intentionally or not - just because you didn't see it listed in the patch notes doesn't mean it wasn't added on purpose. There are MANY little additions that don't make it to patch notes - sometimes there are oversights.
You may have only noticed it in I17, but others disagree. You may think it's a bug, but others think it is a feature. This is the place to talk about what you perceive as a bug - but you really can't expect that people aren't going to discuss it if they disagree with you.
I think it's a FEATURE ... while you believe that it's silly to talk of realism when we can fly and have super powers - I believe that there are elements of realism necessary even in "fantasy" games. In WoW, mobs run off and get two or three friends - in Champions Online, they do the same. Sometimes you wipe because you attacked a solitary target that, at 1/3 health, runs away and gets his buddies and you wind up fighting 4 or 5 other mobs that come running in at full health. That is realistic - and a huge pain in the butt, but that's the way those games are set up. In my opinion making an instanced map a little more challenging by not always putting mobs in the exact same places and adding some "wandering" keeps us from becoming complacent and makes us utilize our skills and experience and maybe even stretches our usage of all our characters' powers.
You say tomato ... I say ... yummy!

Quote:He's not saying it's nvidias fault that CoH crashes... he's saying it is the fault of the manufacturer of your laptop. He's saying that even though they sold the laptop saying it was nvidia, the manufacturer of the laptop likely made some proprietary changes to it. He's also saying it is very OLD technology.Im sorry I do see what your getting at but I also dont see how you can say its nvidias fault that CoH crashes...
Quote:I get that you say they used shortcuts and 'cheats' to get stuff done, but it worked fine originally and the settings I use in game have not changed so why have the requirements changed? The game still runs fine actually playing it but the BROKEN part of the tailor, name entry screens, contacts display pictures and all linked in one BUG.
Quote:I dont see what the big issue would be with reverting the display pictures back to how they were pre i17, that would completley solve the issues and its not exactly going to make the slightest bit of difference to any other player.
Quote:If your saying it was a bug, then how come it was in the game since release right up till two weeks ago? I think you have your wires crossed here, thats not a bug, i17 was. There wouldnt be crash fixes in the last patch and the one on test if i17 wasnt responsible for any of this. Its the fact the devs rushed stuff out (probably due to marketing pushing them) why these bugs were ignored on test in the first place.
Quote:The lack of help after that is whats driving players away, and looking at the financial figures, they cant really afford to get rid of players because of bugs at this stage. Yes theres still plenty here, but a very bugged issue for a 6 year old game is not going to bring in new players until its ironed out. The problem is, by that stage the players who ARE having issues like me will be long gone.
Also - I don't remember if you've contacted tech support yet. Have you? If you have, then be patient and work with them. If you haven't, then you really should ask for help from tech support before claiming that there is no help.
Quote:I do realise there trying to get things sorted but it doesnt change the fact they really should have kept i17 on test until they sorted major issues such as this out in the first place. You cant release a major graphical override without checking and sorting the bugs first, thats just insane.
Seriously - I do understand how frustrated you are. And I do understand that buying a new computer is often not an option for many of us. But the devs are trying to fix what problems they can, and tech support is there for anyone having problems. In order to improve the game, there have to be changes. It's impossible for them to know exactly what might break for those with older video hardware.

[sighs and points to Texas Justice's sig a few posts up ....]
They're fixing what they can as they can. Nobody is deliberately ignoring anyone's specific issues. Have all of you with crashing problems or shader problems - or other issues that have not yet been addressed - contacted Tech Support?

Quote:OK ... First you say that crashing seems to happen a lot when you are on full teams, then you say that your computer doesn't normally bat an eyelash at playing on maxed-out ultra. Seems to me if your computer wasn't batting an eyelash, it wouldn't crash a lot when you were on full teams... Not trying to be snarky - this just confuses me.Okay. Positron task force, part one. I'm the tank. I get onto the first map, everyone's there, we charge into battle... and my game crashes. Damn it. Oh well, this seems to happen a lot when I'm on full teams, I'll just apologize once I log back in. So I log back in, get onto the map... and it crashes again before I even get in the door. The map is corrupt and no matter how many times I log back in, I just crash soon as I step in the door.
The same thing happened on the next map. And the next one. I finished the TF by playing in safe mode, when my computer doesn't normally bat an eyelash at playing on maxed-out ultra. Seriously, what the hell?
Also, system specs, please... cpu, ram, video card...
Updated drivers?

Sometimes things that get /bugged in beta testing don't get fixed before the patch or issue goes live. While I am NOT in the least bit saying that costume and power colors are not "important" to us as players - this issue is not game-breaking, and as such is not something that was going to prevent the issue from going live. It doesn't mean they didn't care or that they aren't working on it - it only means that it went live even though it was reported.
If you are experiencing this (which I'm told pretty much everyone is - I have, unfortunately, not been able to play much since the issue dropped, so I haven't had an opportunity to check my characters), it is probably a good idea to /bug it in game - but I wouldn't advocate /bugging it multiple times on each character... If they claim to have "fixed" it and it is still there, THEN /bug it again...

Quote:Robo, are you able to run other programs on your home computer? For example, can you open Internet Explorer? That's weird, I actually tried getting on Test, but it was the same there as well.
If he can do that, then it's not that he can't open .exe files, which makes it more complicated...
However, we've seen malware removal mess with the registry key that defines how the OS handles .exe files - because the malware had modified the key to force its own executable to load first every time any other program was accessed. When the malware executable is removed without restoring the registry key, the OS can't open any .exe files because it can't find the malware executable to load first.
What Robo is describing is definitely not normal behavior, and it sounds suspiciously like malware-related behavior.

Quote:Exactly.Trust me - its not fine on big screens either. 24" and i cant see my IO levels
The size of the screen does not matter unless you are using a lower resolution on that larger screen. Generally, the larger the screen, the higher the (native) resolution... you might see more stuff, but everything is actually going to be smaller.
The drawback of using a lower resolution on a larger screen is that it looks like doggy doo.
Whatever their reasoning, it's still very bad if the average person actually wants to be able to read their enhancement levels without a magnifying glass.
[Edited to add...] To be quite honest, I don't give a hoot if my enhancements are ugly in my enhancement management screen - I just want to be able to look at them and tell what level they are. I don't spend a lot of time there, and the only things I need to do when I'm there are made more difficult by this supposed improvement. I'd much prefer ugly and readable, thanks.

Quote:While I empathize with your limited play time ... I'm another person who is kind of glad they've done this. It IS far more realistic to have mobs that wander greater distances and go in unpredictable directions and new places. It's less predictable and requires more skill, attention and patience - and, for me, it's more fun. Being defeated is not the agonizing issue that it can be in some games... debt is halved inside of instanced missions and works off quickly, multiple options for travel powers even pre-level 14 make returning to the mission map a fairly short trip ... And there have always been the one or two mobs that hide out on top of shelves or behind boxes - just be glad they aren't inside the ceiling with only their feet showing ... takes most aoe's a LONG time to kill those ...I have noticed it with BM Warriors, Rikti, Crey .. pretty much any mob .. I think its more of what type map its on, city maps that have large open areas.
I really wish they take a look at this yesterday on a defeat all .. finally found two wander's one was off in a corner that mobs never went near before.
Honest it can be frustrating i only get a hour or two a night to play and i dont want to wast 30 minutes searching for something that a month ago would not have been a problem.

I can't imagine how people eat beets - I'm not freaking out that they are still grown and sold at the supermarket ...But to need more than 150 e-mails to yourself every freaking day???? It's people like you who run up the prices in the market. I say lower it to 50. I mean 150 every single day? What are you doing????? I can't figure out how I'd use 150 e-mails every single day (especially with a 20 items limit) unless I spent 14 hours a day trolling the market.
And - where do you get the idea that people emailing things to their own alts is running up the prices in the market? Sheesh ... it's people like you who get stuff nerfed in the game! (Makes as much sense as what you said)

There are numerous threads about this all over the forums. This is working as intended, apparently - it was reported in closed beta many times, in open beta many times and in the general forums many times.
It's hard to read and looks bad on some (many?) monitors, but it is not broken. Just BAD.

Quote:The Intel graphics adapters have really been only marginally supported by the game for a very long time. As a matter of fact, the statement on the forums recently by a redname that the Intel adapters continue to be actively supported by the game was a big surprise to me. A friend of mine was told several years ago by NCSoft/CoH support that the Intel adapters were not really supported due to the manner in which they processed the graphics ... he contacted support because he had an issue (which was sometimes helpful in missions, LOL!) where if he moused over something that caused the mouse cursor to change, it would redraw the entire area - and it would often not redraw walls and such (which meant he could see the bad guys behind the undrawn walls, but they couldn't see him).To be honest NordBlast is correct in pointing out the false statement that the devs said about not effecting the players game with ultra mode. The drivers for intel, to my knowledge where working perfectly fine until this patch. Meaning that the patch itself changed something so that the majority of intel users cannot play anymore. This statement is proven by the number of fourm post that were posted all claming issues and 90 percent of them had a intel driver. See I am no computer junkie, but this seems like pretty soild truth to what NordBlast was saying. Yes some people need to update thier drivers but the issues is the majorty of people that were playing this game before the patch, cannot anymore and where promised that nothing would happen to people's ability to play the game. That is the issue at hand, and the devs need to understand this and fix this.
While obviously something has changed, it is likely that the problems truly are the fault of Intel and the updates have simply exposed them much more harshly to the light of day. It's unfortunate that Intel hasn't really updated it's graphics hardware and drivers to efficiently and attractively handle online games, but there you have it. From a quick glance at the system requirements of some of the mmo's I play, very few, if any, games specify that they support Intel graphics - most only specifically mention nvidia and ATI Radeon. As frustrating as it may be, there's only just so much that developers can do when the manufacturer doesn't improve their product.
Also, while the devs statement of backwards compatibility may now appear to be incorrect, I highly doubt that they deliberately deceived anyone or that the crappy graphics that Intel adapter users are getting is in any way purposeful or deliberate. It pains me to read some of the angry posts which are basically accusing the development team of lying to them and cheating them out of something. They are aware of the issues with the Intel graphics and are working on alleviating what they can - but some of these problems do rest squarely on the shoulders of Intel.

What I'm seeing is that people are posting about problems they are having since the patch. Nobody is really arguing that i17 may have introduced some issues with higher ram and/or cpu usage.
If you think something is wrong with the game code and that's all you want to report, at this point, /bug it or contact Tech Support.
Most of the people offering suggestions on this and other threads are just trying to help you run your game more efficiently and with fewer issues. They can't change the game code for you - just help you make what you have work better.
It's frustrating that the system requirements do appear to be higher even though Ultra Mode was said to be "optional" - so report as much information as you can (there are suggested formats for that kind of reporting on other threads started by rednames) about your system specs and as many details about the problem as possible. If someone asks you for clarification on something or makes suggestions, they aren't saying that you aren't having problems or that the game hasn't created some of the issues, they are just trying to help.
Just my two cents. -
I would imagine that part of Kheldarn's objection is that a 150 email limit has never been mentioned in any of the documentation or patch notes - at least not that I've seen. If it had been stated clearly that this was part of the deal, discussion of the topic during beta testing might have enabled a compromise.
