As difficult as this news is for us (and it is surprisingly difficult), there's no comparison to how hard it must have hit the development team. We have a few more months to get answers - for the moment I hope they take what steps are needed to get through this difficult spot, get their head focused.
-
This, precisely. Maybe it was a delusion, but I expected the game to be around for a good 10+ years, even if there was no "real" development towards the end.
-
Quote:Legitimately shocked.

Quote:They've posted it on their twitter account.Huh, weird.
I'll wait for forum confirmation, given NC's seemingly endless trouble with hackers.
I'll be here until the lights turn off, but as sad as it may seem to outsiders CoH has been my virtual "home." I hope more information comes to light soon, and that somehow the game (and community) can still stay around. -
Is this real? I hope not, but.. wow. If so, it feels like it came out of nowhere. Things looked like they were going so well, and there was so much development happening on test, with the new systems and everything.
City of Heroes has been a big part of my life for then last 8 years, and the Dev team at Paragon Studios have made the game feel more alive now than it's been for a long time. I'll type up a more appropriate "thank you, farewell" post when I get a handle on this, but for now - Thank you, Paragon Studios. You all are fantastic, and have truly made this a one of a kind experience. -
I'm not surprised; lightning seems to strike twice during Magi runs. Then three times. Then four..

I'm surprised those bracers haven't been ported over to female characters - they match well with Valkyrie shoulder and boot pieces.
We could use some more medieval armor pieces, particularly now that we have chainmail to go underneath. I'd love to have a proper generic ornate breastplate rather than the roman themed vests we have. And a lot of the pieces that would work for a breastplate don't properly cover a portion below the belt, and lack any sort of matching option in pants or skirts - which can put a damper on wearing if a knight's more vulnerable spots are left exposed.
Bonus points if it fits a shining knight concept. To give you an example, here's some pretty amazing work a modder did for a nameless game. Remove the winged designs in favor of something more generic and you've got yourself an armor set worthy of a hero. Asking for this exact same thing is out of the question, mind you - but I hope this might give you an idea of what's possible if you're inclined to put a few more bits of armor in the game for us knight fans.

Success on all counts. Excellent teamwork - Thanks to everyone who came out this evening and made it work. You earned those badges!
-
Nice runs, all. We'll get Bunker Buster and the Avoids the Green Stuff tomorrow at 7pm Pacific in Dark Astoria. If you missed out on today's attempt, swing by tomorrow for another chance!
-
As a reminder, the Master of Keyes and possible Master of Minds of Mayhem trial will be today at 6pm Pacific (9pm Eastern) in Dark Astoria. We'll discuss strategy once the league is filled then run trials back to back until we've got the badges.
Come if you're missing the badges, or feel like helping some get theirs. -
Quote:If you're inclined, come by after the appointment. Chances are good that we will still be running the trials; if we somehow get Keyes in 2 runs we'll go after the MoMom badges for Steele.Oh man wish I could go. I got a dentist appointment at that time and I'll have to miss it. I wish ya guys the best of luck!
Next time!!
I hope you can make it this time. If not, we'll see you at the next badge run. -
There's a renewed interest in the MoKeyes badges, so if you'd like to get them please come to Dark Astoria 1 around 6pm Pacific on Wednesday. Myself and a few others will be hosting about 4 runs, with each run taking about 30 minutes.
Spots are limited as the league is intentionally kept small. If you do attend, please come wanting the badge and willing to work together.
Advertisements will be sent out in the various Task Force/Trial channels. If you want to assure yourself a spot, come early. See you there! -
Banter is important to the superhero genre. A dev controlled event like this can banter with players, adding immersion and making up rules on the fly to make things interesting - say, the event culminating in Mako challenging 3 people to a 3 v 1 duel against him before the slog of heroes jump him.
The cost that comes with it is that mobs have to be triggered manually. But the versatility that a live GM has is worth it, IMO. Give me a talking fish that taunts, acts, and reacts over just a scripted event anyday. -
Quote:I would prefer it all be ported, but the belt serves a purpose that isn't currently realized in the game - a knightly belt that isn't a skirt to cover up the briefs area. A lot of patterns highlight and define this area, which doesn't always make sense. Being able to cover it up with a thematic costume piece isn't currently an option. Why stop at the belt? The whole set should be made available for players. I know I'd be all over it.
Hopefully they'll all be released soon, though! -
Wonderful loading screen. Will we be seeing a new loading screen per issue, now?
And this picture really shows off the need for Pendragon's belt to be made available to players - without it, the only style suited piece for knights to cover up with is the Cimeroran kilt, and that would clash horribly for a King Arthur knight. Or the Valkyrie kilt, which would also look silly.
Please have mercy, Dink! -
In other games I would covet a power like Incandescence; in City of Heroes things are straight forward enough that it usually just complicates things. Outside of Avoiding the Green stuff there isn't anything where the benefit is obvious.
I will confess to using Incandescence to pull a non-compliant league to where they should be to finish an objective. It's useful if you're leading a league and also happen to be the only one bothering to read league chat - it wakes people up and shows terminal auto-followers where they should be following to. -
Quote:Maybe it's from playing too much Mass Effect 3, but now I imagine Synapse speaks with Martin Sheen's voice. That's the kind of epic but subtle clue fitting a world changing mastermind, only to be fully understood far down the line.
The meta game in I24 is going to be changing. -
I'll probably be playing around with the Sorcery pool on Beta.
If I'm not there and I'm online, I'll be helping with group content like Rikti Ship Raids and what have you. Don't really do the alt thing very much. -
More Lore pets? Fantastic! Though, is there any way you can look into providing Primal Clockwork as well? After all, we've seen their level 50 counterparts in the new story arcs. I need Primal Clockwork Lore Pets.. for reasons.
Looks like an amazing issue. -
Quote:If you have a main that you prefer to focus on instead of making new alts, being able to have somewhere to "grow" becomes one of the best motivators for playing the game. As long as there's a spot to improve your character - even if that manifests in options - it can keep non-alt players playing.besides "i did this...no badge" is there any valid reason for doing this on a character? I can see sometimes where I get 2 tier 4s in the same ability (Clarion & Rebirth) for specific roles. But this seems a little like collecting photos of everybody who acted in "The Avengers" (no matter how small a role) by personally taking them. Is there a point?
The Radial and Core bonuses are different enough to warrant going after in most cases. Ageless Core provides a recovery, where Ageless Radial provides debuff resistance. Void Judgements can do massive damage in Core or massive -damage in Radial.
The options come in handy when playing with pickup groups, where you can tailor your incarnate abilities to the team's needs; you don't need to rely on alts anymore. -
I've got them all on my main, Paladin, on Virtue. Since I hardly play any other characters it wasn't as difficult as it would be for someone with altitis but it still took a while - I finished them all about a month before Hybrid was released to the live servers. Leading the trials instead of just joining them was a big help and once you're comfortable guiding through the later trials it's not that bad.
The Underground is very useful for it's 60 threads, guaranteed rare/very rare, and the threads along the way - I would usually run a MoM, Keyes, and Underground when I was working towards the badges. Be very aware that you will have to combine rares sometimes, since the UG's guarantee can sense when you need very rare and responds like you would expect.
I should say I've got every T4 except Void Core which I've kept at T3. I enjoy the knockback for thematic moments too much to upgrade; the T4 Core just has damage and none of the kick.
Still totally worth it. -
I never thought I'd say this, but I'll be rolling a blaster when this comes out.
I'm thinking a Kikaida-style character who uses his secondary in street clothes until he's mezzed, then triggers the Mez Break power coupled with a costume change - and WHAM, Blaster Primary, elemental themed goodness.
There's a lot of Henshin characters on Virtue that you can expect to do something similar, and probably a superteam of every Blaster primary/Martial Combat secondary waiting to happen. -
Quote:You're right, Kitty. After watching the youtube video tweeted by CityOfHeroes I got a good look at it. Fantastic stuff, primary or secondary. Once again Arbiter Hawk has impressed me with his ability to try something new and expand on the game's core - Burst of Speed's x 3 uses before cooldown to make a viable combat teleport, an Auto Build Up, a burst buff when a toggle is detoggled - It's not something you'd expect from a game as old as City of Heroes.Actualy this isnt a blast set but a manipulation set....so not a primary set but a secondary set...
So it make me wonder what Primary sets they will come up with next as well...
You might be right maybe they will do something with swords...hopefuly primary and secondary ones so there isnt tons of re-draw....I could see some super sword primary atatcks happening....
Ala like the Animes: "Fate Stay Night" or maybe "Campione"
Those would be really interesting effects....i guess i am just a fan of watching 100s of swords pincussioning the enemy though.
We really are fortunate to have development staff who view the game as dynamic and able to grow in new ways. An active team that pushes more of the same is still good, but we've got a team that makes me feel the best days for CoH are even yet to come. Pretty nice feeling to have, especially considering I've been fortunate enough to have been here since pre-beta. Feels like we ain't seen nothing yet. -
Pendragon's beautiful armor is shown off in the newest tweet by City of Heroes. Can we get a confirm or denial on whether players will gain access to Black Knight/Pendragon style armor in the near future? Spike and spikeless as options would be appreciated as well.
Thanks for all you've done, Dink.
