  1. Why...is this attrocity being allowed to happen? Why would he even WANT to change such a fundamental part of it? Why pick up a project if you aren't even going to keep the baseline of it intact?

Michael Bay is descending into Ewe Boll territory now. Maybe he'll have a freak accident, realize he was wrong, and fi-...no way in !@#$.

Yup, was about to point this out. Pretty sure ghosts in the CoH universe are able to manifest themselves physically in some manner. And even if Warwitch CAN'T...its not like they actually need her help to carry the casket. Could just be symbolic. The worrisome thing though is the lack of Sister Psyche.

Edit: I don't think we are seeing all of that proccesion.
  3. Reading that title, I thought you were going to say "This means war."
  4. You know...this got me thinking. Why not have a zone, or a zone event, that gave the villains the option to win and do something dastardly? Give the heroes the chance to win and do something good OR vigilantiesh. Preferably PvP, but maybe even just PvE, where you rush around trying to arm/disarm some doomsday device. Then at the end of it, give the winner the option to do what they want. Say villains can either destroy the zone, or hold it hostage and dominate it. Or the heroes can protect the zone, or...ask for a large sum of money or some such. Not holding it hostage per se, but demanding payment first. If the villains win and destroy it, the zone becomes unavailable until its next cycled time.

I realize that's probably not quite what the villains are asking for, I just thought it'd be a neat idea to see implimented.
  5. Before you try that, have you gotten the defensive IO's? Edict of the master and sovereign right both give defensive bonus's, and you can also slot your Soul Extraction with the Call to Arms and Expedient reinforcements defensive bonus's as well. Also, it might help to put a healing IO on your zombies at least, to get a bit more mileage out of their life drain, but ONLY if you have the spare slot from taking the to hit aura in Leadership.

Small Edit, that is to say that each duo of sets has one defense and one resistence bonus apiece, at five percent defense and ten percent resistence apiece. So ten defense and twenty resistence, which should help quite a bit.
  6. Mercenaries. No idea why. Probably just the whole bad@$$ normal thing.
  7. Depends entirely on the character. I tend to decide the powers, decide the story, and then mold my outfit around that.

Unless I am just testing a powerset. Then its random, and if I like it I head to the tailor to put a serious outfit on.
  8. Teleport. Or flight. Or maybe one of the PB/WS forms...

GAH, it actually let you post?! Kidding, kidding. I am being logged out more it seems.

You can reasonably infer that Han's life would be in danger at a later time after that scene (at Jabba's discretion, no doubt), but in the Mos Eisley Cantina there was no mortal threat. He fired first to prevent being caught and turned in. This is not the same thing as self-defense.

This was summed up beautifully here:

By altering the scene the way Lucas did, he fundamentally altered both of the characters in that scene. This, in turn, made them inconsistent with their own natures. Greedo was collecting a bounty; Unless he's the sloppiest bounty hunter in history, I don't think he'd be in the habit of opening fire on bounties in crowded, public cantinas. Not to mention, being so unprepared as to not anticipate that his target would be armed and willing to fight. These are things he would, as a professional bounty hunter, expect to be just around the corner (so to speak). This is especially true when you consider that he had to know something of Han's reputation, both as a smuggler and as a wanted man, before taking the job in the first place. The original presentation of how this scene unfolded was perfect for the characters involved: Han got the drop on Greedo and killed him. He even used their existing conversation as a distraction while he readied his blaster. That is consistent with what a charismatic scoundrel would do, given those circumstances. End of issue.

When this scene took place in the film, Han was (at that point) still very much the mercenary that Leia accused him of being later on. The audience is already given the impression that he's at least somewhat devious. The more important storytelling aspect of this, as it's revealed during the unfolding of the remaining films in the original trilogy, is that we see him gradually change his values and attitude about who he is and where his alliances/loyalties lie. By the end of Episode IV, he's sticking around (despite his initial expression that he wouldn't when he was collecting his reward on Alderaan, just before the assault on the Death Star) and actively helping the Rebel Alliance fight the Empire. It's not an extreme change, or all-encompassing, but it's subtle enough that we see it continue to happen as Episodes V and VI play out. This is an excellent example of characterization.

This was supplemented very well by the remainder of the cast, too. The actors' chemistry on-set, and the fact that they had proper direction the entire time, helped shape the dynamic that we've all come to love in the films. There's humor, sadness, seriousness, hope, joy, fear, etc. that surfaces time and time again. Lucas had other directors, and even some of the cast, challenging his decisions on-set at the time. This is, ultimately, why the cast worked so well together in their character portrayals. We didn't see this in Episodes 1 - 3, and the direction was so absent that even seasoned/respected/liked celebrities came off awkward and shallowly-presented. After all, by that point, who's going to say "No" to George Lucas?

Don't fall into the trap that Jar Jar is what's wrong with Episodes 1 - 3. That "material" (if it can even be called that) is afflicted by a much deeper problem than an annoying presence on-screen. In fact, I'd even argue that mentioning Jar Jar at all only shows how little attention was a) paid to the value of the original films and b) what is actually wrong with the newer films, as a whole.

But I digress. I've prattled on long enough as it is ...
Very well said. I always raise an eyebrow at people who say they hate Jar Jar and that he ruined the film. "What about the REST of the movie?" The new trilogy didn't have that same grit to it, it was to smooth, it flowed, but not...right. It didn't have that HEART that made the original trilogy such a classic, as corny as that sounds. The original trilogy pretty often made you FEEL like you were there. The snow speeder, the speeder bike scene, very well done. You just didn't get that same feeling from the new trilogy. It was very detached.

Something I learned a long time ago...take what the Devs or rednames say with a pinch of salt. I would not put misdirection past them, and I don't mean that in a bad way this time. I think it is VERY important that we just know that Statesman is dead. Whether he is permanently gone or not is another story. We've still got two more of these to go. We'll see what happens.

  15. I think one problem I have, even while liking this SSA, is that the heroes spend way to much time licking the Idiot Ball. Miss Liberty and Manticore walking into the obvious trap. Manticore insisting on running off to protect Miss Liberty instead of staying with support. Psyche allowing herself to be vulnerable with Malaise sitting RIGHT there. Aurora not reacting at all when when Malaise goes to make his move. Your CHARACTER for doing the same. ((On a side note, the whole deal could have been avoided if we'd just let Manticore sink an arrow into Malaise. Right thing to do? Probably not, but Malaise still ended up smeared in the end, and we wouldn't have this whole alternate Aurora thing going on.)) And of course, Statesman lovingly cradling the ball as he walks into Wades trap.

And this of course isn't on top of your hero always arriving just a bit to late. Thats not really a case of idiot ball, just us being written to be tardy.

Edit: Yes, I know the player is always going to be more genre savy. But you've got to figure, these guys are heroes who've dealt with some of the worst villains and plots that the world can throw at them. They should be at LEAST a little more aware, shouldn't they?

That's not good planning, it's just clumsy writing. 'I can defeat you because I have this thing that just happened to be here all the time! Ta-da!'

    S.
As much as I enjoyed this arc, I do have to admit that Wade does do a bit of Deus Ex'ing. For example...what if anyone else had gotten to him before Statesman? Or...what if Statesman hadn't been alone? Or...what if Statesman had simply beaten the snot out of him before his trap went off? He also just happened to know that everything was going to lead up to this one point, without fail. Any number of things could have gone wrong in his plain to have thwarted him before now, but somehow his Xanatos Gambit came off perfectly, without a hitch. Well, except for the hero character...and soon to be the villain characters I am sure.

Side question...what was Sister Psyches part in all this? Was that just a personal grudge? Or was he just trying to get her out of the way until he could deal with her?

Absolutely. Han was a scoundrel, no way around it. That was part of his charm, and part of his character. He wasn't responding to a shot fired in self defense, he just capped the guy who'd tracked him down before he could take him in. End of story.
