Is it just me...
Yea you're right it wasn't exactly superman vs doomsday, so I assumed while it was playing out that the game hasn't seen the last of him, but if that's not the case his ending being that he was all the things you said was incredibly weak and lazy writing.
The soa's are ongoing so it wont be a surprise if he comes back, maybe he'll even have figured out by then the appropriate situations to use hand clap.

I'll always be a "Champion" at heart. My server away from home.

Something I learned a long time ago...take what the Devs or rednames say with a pinch of salt. I would not put misdirection past them, and I don't mean that in a bad way this time. I think it is VERY important that we just know that Statesman is dead. Whether he is permanently gone or not is another story. We've still got two more of these to go. We'll see what happens.

Doesn't really bother me much since I didn't have any use for Statesman in either of his incarnations, but to go out to a complete unknown D-Lister without even getting off a punch or a lightning strike or some eye beams...
Maybe its good that he got put down, cuz man, thats like Lebron James in the fourth quarter of a Finals game level embarrassing.

I've been seeing alot of chatter about the Death of Statesman. Have heard all kinds of crazy theories and rumors. Everything from Stateman was based on an old Dev that left with some drama and was being wiped out to put that guy in his place (before my time I guess) to Statesman was going to be overhauled and updated and return as a "New & Improved Statesman".
For me I was less concerned with how he died (though I admit the fight was quite LAME, made me wonder if that was intended if the Dev thing above is true) and more interested in how this will effect other things through out the game. Such as Story Arcs that mention him, have him as a contact or have him in the missions, his ties to Miss Liberty and how this will effect her story and the possible adding of new content there and Task forces that feature him. I think it will be very interesting to see how all that plays out and if he is completely wiped from the content or if its like a "ghost" character.

For those that attended the HeroCon 2009....This was seen coming long ago. Statesman was pretty much mocked and belittled the entire weekend.
IMO, Stateman was "killed" for personal R/L reasons against a former co-worker at NcSoft.
Just sayin....

Besides, Jack Whatshisface didn't work for NCSoft, he works for Cryptic Studios, who at the time had a publishing agreement with NCSoft.
More to the point, Statesman is a totally boring character. He's like Superman, but without the kryptonite thing, which means at least Superman has the potential to be interesting. So, you know, as loathe as I am to use the phrase, 'meh'.
The Melee Teaming Guide for Melee Mans
To me, what was important about Statesman was that he was, in this universe, the original hero. He was revered by the legions of heroes that would follow, or at least inspired them in some way to become a hero themselves. Yes, his powers were standard for the genre, but before he became jaded by decades of watching his friends and family die around him while he continued to live, he was the guy everyone looked to, and when the Rikti came, he became that again.
I think it's sad that what happened with a developer (using Statesman as an identifier) caused so much backlash on the character itself because people couldn't separate game from real life.
As far as the story arc goes, I think his death would have had more impact if we'd seen him in action in earlier installments, rather than just be told that he disappeared and was doing his own thing while his Phalanx was being attacked.
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
...or did anyone else find Statesman's death to be rather paltry and ignominious? For the face of the franchise, the signature character, he kinda went out with a whimper...
