I'm sorry for going off topic, but it always rubs me the wrong way when people criticize an internet reviewer in this way. It's not like he did something offensive or anything; he did what he always does. Only difference is that this time he did it to something you like.

This isn't Roger Ebert here. Spoony, Yahtzee, the Nostalgia Critic, the Angry Video Game Nerd.... all their stuff is at least half meant to entertain. Spoony goes off on rants cause it's funny. Yahtzee makes snide comments and dislikes everything because it's funny.
To be honest, it's really not funny anymore. It's very tiring, actually.

As for me, it's rather obvious that these reviewers are purposefully exploding with rage at things that aren't even worth raging about for the entertainment of it. Never said otherwise myself (I'm aware you weren't responding to me.) I really don't care if they rip apart a movie I like, though I'm sure I might like it for a movie I hate. Can't really think of the last time I could muster up enough emotion to bother "hating" a movie. The last one was...well, I'd better not.

I think that really is the issue though. A lot of us are fully aware that Spoony, etc are really for entertainment, not facts and reasoning. That's exactly why it gets even stranger that someone would actually base their entire understanding of a movie from someone who is going to go out of their way to hate it.

I will say that I think any such review would be much better if it commented on what was actually in the movie, as opposed to either making stuff up or conveniently ignoring scenes and exposition. I haven't actually seen Spoony's review, though, so I guess I can't speak with any authority about how right/wrong he was.

Oh, I know. I wasn't trying to be tricky. I even have your whole quote in that same post. It is really the sentiment I was pointing out. You've decided a part of a movie that you haven't seen doesn't make sense because...because? And there is seemingly little the movie could say to change your already made up mind.

To me, it's all just a shame. It was a fun movie, at least I thought so. I had little issues with it here and there, but greatly enjoyed it overall. I just think it's too bad you're so determined to rob yourself of a good time. I mean, if you walked in not expecting much and wound up not liking it, that's one thing. But you've already decided. The way you post, it sounds like that's not going to change.

I still wonder why you even intend to bother seeing it. Oh, well. To each their own, I suppose.

I honestly have no idea why you are so hung up on a club and a "crowd" (what are you even referring to with that?) It made perfect sense in the movie, was used well, and was dealt with just as certain characters would deal with it.

    Quote:
If you think that them needing to get Kevin's (that's his name right?) disc makes sense, PM me the explanation
Well of course getting the disc makes sense. They explain it quite plainly. How whatever reviewers you've read missed what was spelled out for them is a mystery, though. I guess it's just another side affect of terrible internet reviewers, who almost seem to want to hate every movie so they can come up with "clever" rants and ways to hate it. I used to roll my eyes when people talked about "professional" movie reviewers, but I'm beginning to see their point.

And yes, the characters name is Kevin. Though I am still confused as to the reason you believe you can speak on such authority about the movie when you aren't even certain of the lead character's names.

Not that any of this matters, since, as you say:

    Quote:
...I am very highly unlikely to change my opinion
You've judged the movie without ever seeing it. Why you'd bother to see it now is yet another mystery.

Regardless, I greatly enjoyed it and would even like to see it again, this time in 3D. I saw it with two other guys who both liked it a lot. All of us said it was much better than we expected. Let those who read this take that for what it is.

All I and others are saying is that some of the "huge plot holes" you talk about may not actually exist. I'm sure you're trying to be sarcastic with the plot synopsis and review you read, but it actually does seem like they got it wrong. After all, wherever you got your information failed to explain even basic things like what the discs are and why certain characters might want certain ones. I mean, that's something the movie spells out in plain English, nothing hidden about it.

Even removing that, as I said, the fact there is a "club" and a "crowd" especially given the whole idea of "perfecting" the world in a digital world as it is shows incompetence on some level of the films creative team.
Hmmm...You might be right. A "club" might not have a place in someones idea of a perfect world. Though it could have its uses. Still, it probably would evetually outlive its usefulness. I wonder if something or other happens. But then, what is "perfect?"

Seriously, see the movie first. I am in no way trying to be rude, but you really have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I'm trying to keep with the idea of the thread and stay away from spoilers, so that makes it hard to converse, especially with someone that seems to have read spoilers from a different movie.

I don't know you, but it sounds like you like Smallville. Really, what part of that show requires deep thought? I would wager to guess that a majority of movies/shows that you and I like are as deep as a puddle.

I think I'll take back my hope that you just go see and enjoy the movie. You seem to be vehemently against anything this movie stands for, even though you've got what it stands for incorrect. If you're just going to hate it regardless, if you're just going to insult it with no actual knowledge if your insults are true, then why bother wasting the money and time? Just watch something you think you'd enjoy instead.

Someone stated to you that there were plot holes/bad CG/unexplained phenomena. You have no first hand knowledge if this is true or not, but have decided to agree with them, apparently. You are, in effect, using what other people have said to condemn a movie you haven't seen.

Oh and I will be watching Tron 2 soon as I can, but when that is i don't know. Doesn't mean that I can't comment on what has been said, which is what I'm doing.
There is a distinct difference from commenting on others statements versus what you're doing. If I were to give a major spoiler and explained how the Discs worked, for instance, I wouldn't think anything of it if you commented about how you thought that sounded awesome/stupid. But that's not what's happening. You are taking someone else's opinion, and then adding your own reasoning to said uniformed opinion without having seen the flick.

For instance, you keep talking about the portal and how CLU needs to use it, then saying how many plot holes it opens with the way CLU uses it. I suppose it would open up a lot of plot holes, which is probably why it wasn't written the way you say it was. Really, there is a difference from saying you heard the movie sucks and so you don't want to see it, and what you're doing, which is explaining in detail why the movie sucks when you don't even know the details you're trying to talk about.

There are certainly plenty of things you could pick apart in this movie, but that's true of most films. Ultimately, I hope you can just go and enjoy it as opposed to walking in with all your preconceived notions, deciding that you think it sucks and why before even watching it. It's a fun movie, nothing more. It wont change the world of film, but it sure was a fun ride.

Also; I thought the CLU CG was great. In fact, it never occurred to me that it was CG until that final scene. Otherwise, it looked perfectly fine.

Also, also; I liked the movie. Not sure about all the complaints about the plot. I thought it was pretty straight forward. Now some of the details, such as most of the gibberish Flynn drools out about his creation and stuff, I still have no idea. The plot, however, I never had trouble following. Though I will admit I still don't know what that girl is supposed to do.

    I want that coat.

The friend I went to see it with loves electronica, Daft Punk, and any story involving robots and/or computers. He was in heaven.

    The coat will be mine.

All that said, I liked it enough to consider watching it again. My fiance said she'd go with me. Now, I saw it in 2D, but it sounds like 3D might actually be worth the extra dough. Is this true? I hate paying for 3D and seeing a movie that has a grand total of maybe 3 scenes that are noticeably 3D, and otherwise forgetting that the movie is any different. I get free movie passes but have to pay the difference for 3D shows, so it's not a huge hit to me. But if the 3D is minimal or just sucks, I wouldn't want to waste my money.

Im serious tho. "Starforce"? Aliens? Lightform? I mean, it fits! If you are going for a concept toon that fits the name Starforce the peacebringer sounds really cool. The different forms are even named after stars! And despite the instant flaming I'm going to get from the l33t crowd here in a minute, they are really fun to play. I will now go back to happily playing my "underpowered" AT and await the hate parade.

I would actually agree with this. I've gotten two human-only PB's to 50, the second one born after being attacked by a sudden desire to have an "outer space" like character. My main is a tri-form Warshade, but I wanted bright stars. As far as mez protection, Dwarf and Lightform both give it to you.

Aside from that, any Energy set would work well. I would really suggest creating a new character, then heading straight to the powers screen to see what they look like and what you can make them look like with color customization. There are probably some sets that wouldn't normally be considered for your character concept that could now fit really well.

Hover and Flight used to have the same animation. For a brief stint Hover wound up with the same animation that Ghosts have for floating around, then we got the one we have now.

The animation and the speed of Hover have nothing to do with each other.

Personally, I much prefer the Hover animation we have now. The Flight animation looked ridiculous since you were going so slow, what with your body parallel to the ground as if trying to get minimum air friction. It was like a kid being slowly tugged along in a wheelbarrow, but leaning forward and making "ZOOOOOM!" sounds as if he were in a race car. It always looked silly to me. The Hover we have now is more what I would have expected. Though I will admit it doesn't look quite as cool now that the power has been sped up, to me anyway, but I still prefer it to Flight's animation.
  9. If I have a character that takes Flight, then chances are they perma-hover. My Rad Defender and Human PB both perma-hover throughout my missions. With just the one slot it moves along at a good clip. When I get a large outdoor map I begin to switch beneath Hover and Flight.

It gives some defense, stops knockback and, when the ceilings are high, allows me to stay out of melee range if I so desire. Also gives me a good view of the action.
  10. There is so much going on that I find I have a hard time focusing on the vehicle.

It looks like a minivan was dropped on top of a Cadillac so hard that the two fused together. Then it was painted bright purple. Why was it painted bright purple?

That thing is about as non-functioning as it gets. It's way too big to maneuver through city streets with any ease. It is all just so...dumb.

The same reason to get any low level IO set: To keep the bonus when exemped. Unless people are slotting a single proc IO and nothing else from the set. Then I have no clue.

I myself just slotted a lvl 50 Stealth IO in Sprint last night, but it's the only thing I intend to slot in Sprint, so I really don't care what level it is. However, I do exemp a lot with either AE, to help friends, or more likely, Ourobors...Orobosus...Oro...Flashback Missions. That's why I personally like to get lvl 30 sets, so that all my set bonuses last all the way down to lvl 27.

When I first heard about the Alpha slot, I wasn't even sure I cared that much. I mean, IO sets have given me capped damage (as far as ED is concerned), plenty of accuracy, and enough recharge/end reduction to make me happy. Sure, any given character could always use more recharge/end reduction, but it's not like I was going to grind for who knows how long just to get more of what I already have.

That was when I thought about things I don't normally slot for, such as secondary effects. Defense Debuff for my Rad Defender and PB, Stuns in my Mace Tank, and especially Slows in my WS. I like that my attacks have a slow effect, especially while in Nova, but it always seemed pretty minimal. Now, when two Extracted Pets and I attack an individual, the slow is definitely noticeable, but I still wanted to make it stronger. As a tri-form, however, I just couldn't use slots for slow IO's.

This Alpha slot will be mine. I will be taking less recharge and boosting the slow. Don't know how much it will boost it, as I haven't really read up on the Alpha Slot and all the numbers associated with it, but that's what I'll be doing nonetheless.

Is that it? Is that what it does?

When GR released, I made a Stalker because...I didn't have one, having deleted the few I'd made.

Anyway, I read the power descriptions, including Assassin Strike, since I was sure I had heard about changes to the AT at some point. The fear debuff sounded cool, but then it seemed to go off only once in a very great while. I wondered why they even bothered adding the mechanic since it so rarely occurred. I guess most of my targets died after the AS, so I was just never seeing it.

If that is how the mechanic works it is even more useless than I had previously thought. Having a low chance to occur would actually increase its use, since again, a vast majority of my AS targets are killed dead. Though I'd rather the effect just came from me and not the target.

To be fair, though, now that I know I can see ways to use this. It's a free extra hit on the AS target if it doesn't go down. Could also hit a LT/Boss, then attack the minions while they cower. But then, I don't know how long the effect lasts, or if most stalkers would be able to down a couple of minions before the LT/Boss recovers.

    Megamind

Saw it Sunday with the girlfriend. We both loved it. Twas funny. Also, I think there is more to it than people give it credit for. I like that Megamind went through a slower transformation. In fact, he really didn't realize it until the last quarter of the movie.

Anyway, Megamind and Despicable Me are a couple of my favorite movies this year. I guess I'm just a sucker for this story.

Now that I think about it, a lot of the movies I remember over the past few years were all CG. The two aforementioned, along with Kung Fu Panda (preview for the sequel was shown at Megamind!), The Incredibles, Wall-E, Monsters, Inc., and one of my personal favorites, Up. Aside from the Iron Mans and Batmans, I can't really think of any live action movies I've enjoyed nearly as much as the "cartoons". Well, there was Inception.

My favorite quote in that was some girl saying something like: "He's really an inspiration to me because he came from a small town." Really? Because, successful people only come from big cities, I guess. Apparently, if you live in a small town your ambition is relegated to local gossip and rocking in your chair. Oh, and you don't have any talent. You can't, as you're not from L.A./New York! Foolish small town people!

Also, been hearing on the radio on the way to work lately that the guy is a tremendous jerk. Don't know if it's true or not, but I've heard several reports involving completely different events.

    Hurdle, Yum!

A long time ago I added an extra slot to Dwarf Form so I could put a jump enhancement in it. I was tired of being able to jump higher, but not high enough to reach the second ledges in missions. I was always JUST shy of making it. Now I can make the jumps with ease.

The idea of being able to do that without spending an extra slot makes me happy.

Yes, the KB proc is horrible in wormhole, not because knockback is inherently bad, but because mobs in the middle of being knocked around would NOT get teleported by the wormhole.

I have never seen this happen. Once Wormhole hits, it hits. That is, if I use Wormhole and it rolls as a hit on a baddie, then it doesn't matter what happens after that, the guy is getting TP'd wherever I want him to be TP'd. I've had guys on the far edge of a spawn get knocked back, but they would always get TP'd.
  17. Both of my human-PBs perma-hovered, so i never knew it was a problem.

I suppose the typical KB IO protection applies.
  18. It happens when the power hits, before the TP. Also, it is the most useless proc I have encountered. It frustrates me to no end because, like you, I wanted that sweet, sweet defense. But I would rather have an IO that increases the potency of the power than that waste of a proc.

The only somewhat slight use it has is actually with Wormhole, since mobs are alerted to your presence right when the power activates, allowing them some time to attack. With the KB proc, sometimes a couple of them might get knocked back, meaning that they wont be attacking you before the Wormhole TP.

But on most stuns, I honestly can't see the point. I mean, I just stunned them. What does also knocking them back accomplish? Any stun I use is going to last longer than the KB, so knocking them back doesn't mitigate anything. Maybe for powers that only have a chance to stun, now you also have a chance to KB? I guess.
  19. It really depends on my mood. But overall, my tri-form Warshade.

    Two.

Been here since beta (though I didn't find the forums until...whatever it says under my name), and I only have two. One asking about my avatar, the other giving me information about "Second Life". Think I asked about it during a discussion or something.

Granted, I'm not very active on the forums, but still...

I just got my DP/Pain Corr to 21 last night, and I have to say I enjoy the set overall. The only issue I have is stated above. Whenever I use my PBAoE Heal, I put my guns up. Why? All I do is stick my hands out to the side. There is no need for me to put my weapons away. Especially harsh since I solo so much and I need the heal, but by the time it goes off and I pull out the guns again, I've taken all the damage I just cured right back.
  22. Fix it up all you want, I just wish I could take the fear powers without having to take the taunt powers.

I mean, I want the fear powers to STOP people from attacking me, and in order to get it I have to take a power that DEMANDS they attack me. It seems like the first part of the pool was meant for Tanks/Scrappers, and the second part for squishies.

I wish the pool powers opened up like primary/secondary powers, unlocking at certain levels regardless if you have any of the previous powers. You could say that would mean people would skip the pre-reqs, but I'd just think that means there was something wrong with them to begin with. As an aside, I actually like a lot of the pre-reqs, and take the travel power ones (Hover/Combat Jumping) even though I don't need to with my Vet Reward. But some of them could either use some help, or are powers I simply don't want but have to take in order to get the one I do want.

I've used it at the first wall on the Eden Trial. Keeps those Boulder buff thingy's away, along with everyone else.

Especially now that ranged defense is so easy to come by, I'm not sure how one could find this power "useless". Unless they just refuse to experiment, try new things, etc. But it seems I usually get great use out of certain powers, only to come to the forums and be told they are worthless.

    What is it...

I have the pet up almost all the time on whatever character I am playing. The only time someone attacks it is when I haven't attacked them. I've pulled aggro off of it with all sorts of AT's. Yes, it will still get defeated eventually, but the power recharges rather quickly and it costs nothing to summon.

Though I do lose it every now and again, I've never had the problem of it getting murdered every spawn, or even every other spawn. Usually two or three times a mission, if that.
