    hurray! 1 Bill!

    Congrats!

I've mostly been spending my money lately. The only characters of mine who still have a billion influence are ones on servers other than Virtue, where I play most of the time.

On the other hand, I market on Virtue (hero side) with a cast of 6-8 characters, and they always have several hundred million influence each. I need a way to keep my new alts outfitted, hehe.

    Truthful response gets /applause.

    Santa = villain?

Bow down before the power of Santa, or be crushed by his Jolly Boots of Doom

Too bad I couldn't find a link to the actual Invader Zim clip... it's on Youtube but I can't watch it here in the U.S. due to the copyright thing.

In one of the old Badger comics (#70, the last one from First comics, I guess), Santa turned out to be a crazy biker dude in black leather with a foul mouth. That always made me laugh. ^_^ He still handed out presents, but he wasn't always jolly.
  4. I forgot to mention this or bug it, but while the patch notes say that timing out will send you to Atlas Park (for heroes) rather than the zone you started in... leaving at any other time also sent me to Atlas Park. That was apparently my only option, even though I had started in Steel Canyon and Peregrine Island.

Also I only took one picture... not that great but here it is:

Nope. This changed mission didn't happen. How could they be so wrong???

BTW, if you want a cape at level one and you're not using a female model, get the Magic Booster. You can have a high collared cape at level one with *any* cape attached to it. See here.
Your new avatar picture is full of win. ^_^
  6. Two attempts, both successful. But the lower level group in Steel Canyon finished with only about a minute or less to spare. Higher level group in PI had no problems, over 5 minutes left when done.

I don't have any major problems with it, it's a mini raid event. It doesn't seem too hard if you have a good mix of people and enough people present. The rewards seem about right too.
  7. When I logged in tonight, everyone was running around testing the new Winter event.

Also, a stack of Scientific Theories (I don't know why I keep calling them 'Scientific Supplies'. Not very scientific of me.) that I had listed for sale had sold. I had these listed for well above 100,000 influence each, and they'd been there nearly a month. Since the last holiday event, in fact. Thread reference.

So my question is... coincidence? Or does a holiday even cause a drop in market supply for certain things, and a corresponding rise in prices?

IE, since this is only a "test preview" of the event, is now the time to figure out what's going to spike in price soon? ^_^
  8. At this point I have 8 50's and at least an equal number in their 40's... I'd have no problems sacrificing one. That could be very cool. ^_^

I'd also like to see the Psi-bomb have its cost reduced. The other powers are reasonably priced but 150 merits for 3 bombs seems a little steep. I'd like to see it decrease to 100 or even 75.
I pretty much agree. The costumes aren't expensive if you do raids, but they ARE expensive if you're trying to earn merits any other way. Increase merits earned outside of ship raids = problem solved.

    Focus Chi

Yeah, I know everyone plays differently but I can't imagine not having buildup on my scrappers. I use it as often as possible. Against high-defense enemies it's sometimes the only thing that allows me to hit them at all.

I even like it on my blasters... buildup + aim + snipe or nova is everything that makes a blaster fun to play. ^_^
  11. Yeah, some are better in PvP, some are better for taking on bosses, some are better for AoE. But just about any scrapper can not only solo well but by mid 20's to 30's should be able to crank up the difficulty and still solo really well.
  12. My first character I gave green skin and a natural/organic looking costume. Never mind that she was a katana/dark scrapper, I just liked the look. So I came up with the name Organica, and I liked it.
  13. My main Mouse Police on Virtue is a katana/regen built for defense. I think I'm above 40% defense on range and aoe, and around 20% or less on melee... I don't necessarily recommend my build to other people but if you aren't soloing AVs or doing PvP, it's perfectly viable as a PvE build.

But I do have a second katana/regen at 42 that's built the more traditional way. ^_^
  14. I'd be happy to join a Victory Hami raid if one was planned when I could attend. Mind you, my 50 scrapper on Victory is SR, which I understand is not at its best against Hami. ^_^ On Virtue I usually run my regen scrapper, which is a defense set very well suited for Hami.

My experience with Hami is virtually all via scrappers, but I understand some of the concepts for what other ATs are doing. I think. I really ought to bring my tank and my troller to a couple of these so I get a more rounded picture of what they would be doing.

And the event itself was absurdly boring if you're not one of the designated few. I brought a Scrapper, so I spent half the time sitting on my hands and half the time lagging out. Literally sitting on my hands. "OK, everyone who doesn't have a hold, just stand back and wait." Yeah, great gaming there.

And with a bazillion people, the lag was epic. Not only did my system grind to a halt even with all the graphics turned down, but the server slowed down, as well. I couldn't see the Hamidon, I couldn't see our effects, I couldn't see more than 20 people (out of 200), powers on a 5-second recharge took a minute to recharge and I essentially spent the last quarter to half of the battle just staring at my combat tab, waiting to see system messages that a power had recharged so I could click it. If there's anything more boring, I don't know what it is.

And to top it all off, not only did people rush out to nuke as many Hamidon Buds as they could (good thing the Hamidon Enhancement were no longer given out by these) but as the raid people stood back in the now empty Hamidon crater, swapping their spoils, someone thought it was very funny to start dragging Monsters into the pit, thus preventing people from trading. And not just a monster or two, mind you. I left after we took down five and had five more coming. I left with most of the raid, in fact.

There was NOTHING about the old raid that I could describe as good. At all.
Sam's pretty much right. I'd add that A) You couldn't have an aura or a cape in your costume, B) Lag was still horrendous anyway, C) If you were a controller (especially illusion controller) you were ESSENTIAL, but for many ATs you almost had no reason to be there at all. I had a fire/axe scrapper and no fly power (no such thing as temps back then) and my purpose was to superjump up and try to hit a mito a couple of times. I wasn't needed. In fact, if I hadn't had two good trollers in my SG at the time, I probably would never even have been invited.

And it was long and mindlessly dull. I only did it twice (on Pinnacle at the time).

Today's Hami raids are fun, IMO. I'm on Virtue so I've done quite a few. Everybody has a role, and everybody needs to do their job. You all need to be on the same page. But it's not difficult to do, and you can join and have the basics explained to you in just a few minutes.

Last raids I was on were a week ago Wednesday, when Virtue conducted two evacless raids back to back. Lotsa fun. ^_^
  16. Speaking strictly from a PvE perspective, MoG is probably the best tool in my toolbox. You can hit it and take an alpha strike, and by the time it wears off half your enemies are dead or else you've hit parry 2-3 times and have good melee defense going.

That said, my main is a katana/regen scrapper with a build that goes very much against what most experts would suggest for the set, so whatever works for you is the best way to go. ^_^
  17. I've teamed with Zombie Man. I've teamed with Smurphy. I know I've teamed with quite a few others that I recognized from the forums. I'm not really one to say anything about it, though.

I mean when I'm on the team, I don't say, "Oh, you're Sonso!" of course. ^_^
  18. Thanks to this thread and the "release names nao!" thread over in general, I decided to actually LOOK to see if my namesake was available on Virtue.

It was. $10.00 later, Organica is a Virtue scrapper.

I played her on Sunday and went from 38 to 40. Picked up my new costume. I was shocked to realized I only had 84 badges on her... I thought I'd done more badging on my original character, but of course, by the time badges came out I was mostly playing my fire/axe tanker.

It's funny though, because I can remember hunting solo on the streets of Brickstown on the far side of the zig for days to gain a level. That was one of several reasons that I finally gave up on this character. I made it to 37 with a lot of grinding, and then eventually went back last year and played for a little bit on Pinnacle and made 38. Here I gained two new levels in a single day. (I did play a lot of the day, mind you.)
  19. I believe I teamed with Kid Yellow Fire just yesterday.

I vote no to the tied-to-global thing. The English language is made up of millions of words, and you can combine 2 or 3 words into a hero/villain name, and you're not limited to the English language. Our player base is not large enough to run out of names anytime soon.

Purges are fine. As noted earlier, I've recently taken advantage of that. ^_^
  20. Actually, thanks to this thread and a thread in the Market forum by Nethergoat about being recognized in-game, I decided to check on the name "Organica" on Virtue.

My namesake has existed for years on Pinnacle as a level 38 katana/regen scrapper. When I later (still in 2004 or early 2005) tried to reserve the name on other servers, it had already been claimed on all but one of them. Later when I came back to the game and started playing on Virtue, the name was still unavailable. I was pretty sure I'd checked again after the last round of name purges... but guess what? I discovered this morning that the name was, in fact, available.

I transferred Organica over to Virtue, and will now have a reason to finally play her up to 50. ^_^

(So... that name's no longer free on Virtue... but it's free on Pinnacle now....)

  22. Oh yeah, I have a 50 invul tanker myself, softcapped for smashing/lethal defense. I tend to jump in, hit whirling hands, and THEN taunt just to make sure nobody wants to wander away.

But my theory is, the less-than-confident or newbie shield tanker is still going to charge in, because otherwise what's shield charge for? Meanwhile any other less-than-confident or newbie tank might be tempted to be less direct. I mean, the team I was on had two blasters and one warshade, all trying to AoE, but the tank would break up tight groups of enemies for no really good reason, usually by taunting at range before he ran in.

Then I teamed with a shield tanker and I realized almost every shield tanker I ever teamed with used shield charge as often as possible.
  23. Invul tank says, "I'm gonna taunt from a distance. Then I'm gonna run around, and maybe try and pull to corner." Tight group of enemies... becomes less tight. Time is wasted. Scrapper is not happy.

Shield tank has shield charge. Rush in! No waiting! Lock and BOOM! Scrapper swoops in, blasters blast, enemies die BEFORE they can scatter! On to the next group! Scrapper is happy!

(Not to say that every non-shield scrapper is as inefficient as the first example... but my working theory is that a shield tanker with shield charge is never tempted to NOT charge straight in, save in situations where that might kill the entire team. And maybe not even then...)

I'm making this in a separate thread, so that it doesn't get lost in the middle of the other SB4 thread. (All values at level 50, without slotting)

    Ninja Run
    • 695% Jump Height
    • 136.95% Jump Speed
    • 140% Run Speed

    Super Speed
    • 350% Run Speed

    Combat Jumping
    • 200% Jump Height

    Super Jump
    • 2780% Jump Height
    • 249% Jump Speed

    Sprint
    • 10% Jump Height
    • 50% Run Speed

    Hurdle
    • 166.8% Jump Height
    • 124.5% Jump Speed

    Swift
    • 35% Run Speed

    Walk
    • 0% Jump Height
    • 0% Jump Speed
    • -200% Run Speed (wildly guessing)
    • 850% Sexiness

    And now, a handy chart:

    (Assuming all powers unehnaced)
    • Ninja Run jumps higher than Combat Jumping
    • Ninja Run + Hurdle is faster than Super Jump
    • Ninja Run + Hurdle is faster than Fly while jumping
    • Ninja Run + Sprint + Swift is almost 2/3rds as fast as Super Speed
    • Ninja Run + Sprint + Swift is about 3/4ths as fast as Siphon Speed
    • Ninja Run + Sprint + Swift is a tiny bit faster than Fly while running
    Edited for completeness.
