Quote:Sorry, just noticed this.#3. The change they made to use technology rather than mysticism while it is interesting, ultimately cripples the story as it makes it less believable and makes it so if there are sequels they'll have a ripple effect causing tons more changes that aren't for the best.
I'm not completely sure what you're talking about here. Granted it's been quite a while since I read the books, but I pretty much recall everything being presented as technology not magic. Granted, it's pretty absurd tech but so are a lot of other things in the sci-fi genre and not all of them were written 100 years ago. -
So yea, I just saw this tonight myself. I'd kind of despaired of it being any good once I started seeing the commercials and once the reviews started popping up I'd pretty much written it off as not being any good. Still I went to go see it out of the same sense of morbid curiosity that keeps on dragging me to Michael Bay movies and I have to say I'm rather happy I went.
It's certainly not a cinematic masterpiece by any stretch, but it's a lot of good solid fun in the same vein as movies like The Rocketeer or the '93 version of The Three Musketeers. It manages to have a decent amount of character development and plot mixed in with its action scenes and the special effects were quite well done. I'd give it about a 7/10 with 5 being a completely average 'meh' film.
The only other version I'm aware of is Princess of Mars. It's kind of a terrible film, which makes sense since I believe it's done by The Asylum, and I'll grant that it's not bad for one of their films but it's still pretty horrible. They do have the same general plot since they're mostly based on the same book, but aside from a couple similarities they're pretty different I thought. -

The only big problem I see with this idea is you know there will be people who would see the temporary VIP thing as somehow permanently granting them access to things like the VIP only powersets and Controllers/MMs. You'd think that it'd be common sense it wouldn't work that way, but near as I've ever been able to figure out common sense isn't terribly common.

If you were doing 'fine' on your blasters back before defiance 2.0 (by which I mean leveling relatively quickly and not dying) then chances are you're in that 0.01% she mentioned as well.
I wouldn't call what Arcana said condescending, but it did strike me as the same sort of unintentionally superior kind of thing one hears from those very confident of their abilities. -
Quote:Huh. I didn't even know that Second Life was a subscription based user environment.Lifetime subscriptions at launch have been around for a while (I know Second Life offered them back in 2003), but they're usually only offered when the game's success is uncertain. There was no way that WoW was going to be a failure, so they didn't offer lifetime subscriptions.
That said, while lifetime subscriptions might have been a thing for a while now th number of bigger MMOs that use them is vanishingly small. I think I could count the ones I'm aware of on one hand. -

I don' know that there's anything wrong with powers that aren't amazing. Situational powers are fine to an extent. Time bomb is mostly just too situational, which is why these debates keep on coming up. I mean te sentiments expressed in this thread (being a good number of players don't find the power useful in gameplay) are really nothing new.
There has to be some middle ground where we can keep the flavor of the power and yet have it be more readily useful in teams. -
Ok, so it's a spiffy looking trailer but I really don't think it showcases issue 22 terribly well. I think you first really see anything to do specifically with I22 at about 1:20 ... out of 2:06. The rest of it is dealing with Statesman's death (which won't happen with anything in-game aside from the SSAs until I23) and the newer purchaseable powersets (including staves which isn't actually in-game yet).

I'm going to assume the blaster AT subforum isn't the one you intended to post this in. You possibly want either the mastermind forum down a ways, or possibly more likely the build forum just above this one.

Quote:Yea, SOs work just the same as they always did.IOs don't work on Premium? Did not know that. Certainly explains a few things about my characters.
Are SOs the same as always?
There's nothing obvious that says "You don't have and/or can't do such-and-such" as far as I recall. Hence the fact I did not know we couldn't use IOs.
Also, if you've played the game long enough to have completed Tier 7 or higher you have IOs permanently unlocked on your account. -
Awww, nothing from Face Off. It has lines that fit so well too.
Quote:His face ... OFF! Eyes, nose, skin, it's coming off. -
Well, the last was wasn't esactly what I'd call good, but it was also so completely over the top it was entertaining. This looks like it might turn out the same way.

I'm going to assume that the answer to this is that you don't necessarily hand over ownership of your character. If that were flat out the case then NCSoft would own the rights to Harry Dresden since Jim Butcher plays(or at least played) him as a defender (FF/something I think).

Quote:To clarify, AR's snipe is the only one that's given extra damage by having Targeting Drone active. Not snipes in general.Devices has Targeting Drone which gives Snipes a damage bonus anyway.
Quote:However if the typical Blaster Snipe could drop the Mezzing Lt in one shot then the Blaster is simply doing what he does best...blasting. I feel that asking for more than that would be considered greedy -
Quote:I'm probably not looking at it right, but I'm not seeing many instances outside of incarnate content where range is the 'only' option. There's certainly some instances where it's easier to use ranged than melee though. What about AoE DPS then? What about AoE Burst? And what about DPS when range is the only option?
Honestly we should look at AoE DPS as a data point too. Though I imagine that in general blasters will come out ahead in that regard.
The problem I see with AoE DPS is that it's really only useful to a point after which you need to switch back over to single target DPS again. You basically end up with blasters having an easier time taking out the 'easy' enemies (underlings, minions, LTs) and you're left with those harder targets that are primarily the ones that give the average blaster a headache (bosses and up). -
Indeed. We are however discussing primarily DPS ATs here and their DPS relative to each other is pertinent. Especially given that a lot of people don't seem to think that the other factors actually balance out.
-
Quote:So I'm not a big numbers cruncher so forgive me if I'm off-base with this, but high-end blasters have DPS numbers that tend to be around that of scrappers (give or take) yes?No one's forcing them to do anything. Blasters have the option to go all out while putting themselves at risk, or go at range and still do good damage, something scrappers don't have.
If so wouldn't that mean a blaster going 'all out' is pretty much the same as a scrapper just doing their thing? Doesn't that seem a little strange and possibly a little off-balance to you?
Now I could be off and blaster DPS when playing at risk and fully using their best possible attack chain might be significantly higher than that of scrappers. If that's the case, never mind. -
What makes me really sad about next week is I have a Computer Organization and Calc2 test on the 7th, a project for the first one due on the 11th, a Discrete Math test on the 8th, and a programming project due on the 10th. I'm so envious of people with free time next week.

If they were lumped under hats then wouldn't you be locked into whatever hairstyle they figured would go with the mask? Also between the hair and the mask itself you'd only get two color options.

Where was I talking about tank mages? I pretty much just think acrobatics is a lousy method of providing knockback and mag 2 hold resistance.
Personally I'm pretty 'meh' on the whole mez issue for blasters, but let's assume the devs datamine that blasters do spend too much time mezed for a second. Do you really think they'd consider the solution to the problem as simple a thing as just telling all the blasters that they need to take super jump as their travel power?
Edit:Quote:I dunno what they were thinking about with Archery getting no secondary effects and still being able to work, but maybe they will fix that one day. -
Quote:It's not really all that fantastic an answer to the issue though. It's fairly limited in both the amount and types of protection it provides and on top of that it's limiting in concept as well. It was silly enough as the only way to shore up issues of a couple power sets (Fire Armor) but holding it up as the answer to a complaint being raised by an entire AT is even more so. Especially when there's so much more to control than just knockback and holds (Malta stun grenades, Rikti rifle blasts, Devouring Earth spore bursts, ect.).Acrobatics is an answer to issues of many powersets across many ATs not limited just to blasters before IOs come into play. Should effects similar to acrobatics be spread across more pool powers? yes, definitely, but that's more of an issue of the pool power system we currently have being so shallow.
I'm personally pretty ok with the attacking when held thing, but that acrobatics comment just struck me as silly. -
So you're saying a power that requires someone take the jumping pool as a travel power and is available to all ATs equally is the answer to the possible complaints from an AT about being mezzed more than other AT?
Brilliant!
Well, you could also be saying any number of things, but one word doesn't give a ton to go on so I'm going to interpret it as you saying that. -
It's quite possibly because I've played a lot of sonic, gravity and energy(blast/melee/manipulation) but I've never thought the animation on Executioner's Shot was too terribly slow.

Just going to point this out to folks, but BlackDecember hasn't actually been active on the forums since just a couple days after his last post in this thread ... which was towards the end of July last year.
Yay for people necro-posting I guess.
