I forget this EVERY SINGLE TIME I log back in while going for the Clubber badge.

The only reason I wouldn't want to see an AE-style quiet room is simply because of the convenience of travel powers, but aside from that, not being able to click on a power you cannot even use won't hurt anyone.
  2. I demand an Inspector Gadget style Propeller Hat or I will CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION RIGHT THE HELL NOW.
  3. It was a +1 Baldr's Blessing Shirt, obviously. Shoulda used a mistle-toe arrow or something instead.
  4. Just to play devil's advocate, I'd like to think of counter-arguments, but there aren't really any coming to mind right now.

I can't really think of this as balance-breaking. The current inspirations aren't balance-breaking, either, they only give you an edge in combat and allow most of my toons to tackle EBs evenly even if they're not built optimally. If +recharge sticks to the same conventions as other Inspirations, which is to say, just give you an edge in combat, it should be okay.

Plus, a higher recharge always means you'll burn through endurance, faster, so with that bit of a drawback, it also should be easier to justify.
  5. I did, in fact, do absolutely nothing.

I'm a Virtue player at heart. And as far as I'm concerned, I'd rather play with normal XP and no lag than play with double XP and minimal lag.

May as well spend the weekend being sexy to the gentlemen, right?
  6. Word on the street is that Going Rogue Closed Beta started months ago.

My informants value discretion, though, so I hope you understand if I don't reveal my sources.
  7. Oh boy, oh boy, normally I don't do this, but I'm just gonna have a field day here on that post.

This game is not WoW. WoW may have been build to have its level-cap raised all the time, but CoH is balanced around the magic number 50, not to mention that level-cap raising doesn't just magically fix something or add something new, all it automatically does is make you grind more to reach maximum.

If you can add more level 50 content, why not do that? In fact, isn't that preferable to make something you can access right away than to make something you first have to grind for?

2 fix some raids like hami well maybe the rewards(hami raid waste of time why still have it if no one dose them)
'Fraid there can't be done much here. You already get HO enhancements that are better than the SO stuff, even though the HO you get is random, and you get quite a good amount of merits with which you can just buy your invention recipes of choice. Hell, merits are already half-way there on trivialising random drops.

And, at least here on Virtue, we have weekly Hami Raids on both sides, and I am fairly sure most even do them just for fun, not any tangible reward. I mean, yes, rewards are nice and the best incentive an MMO could probably have, but if you don't have fun doing a Hami Raid now, will you have fun doing a Hami Raid when it gives you a Plus One Gold Armor?

    3. the whole 6 slot crap is BS should atleast 12 slot so you could have 2 diff IO sets)
Here's the thing: If the players get twice as many slots, they'll be roughly twice as powerful as well. To counterbalance that, enemies will also need to become twice as powerful. Best case, nothing actually changes and we're back at square one. Worst case, the game becomes so difficult that the leasurely teams are not possible anymore. No more throwing teams together just for the sake of it, only TANKER SCRAPPER HEALER from now. I don't wanna see that myself.

It's a question of game balance. If you want to be so powerful that nothing can faze you, or the majority of the player-base, the two obvious solutions are nerfing players or making enemies more powerful. You can't have your cake and eat it, too.

    4. lol more end game content
    See 1.

You want more end-game content, but you also want to push the level-cap up every year? That's not how it works.

Right now, the level 45-50 end-game consists of two raids, four task forces and the several end-game story arcs that nobody ever cares to mention. Too much? Just right? Not enough? I leave that up to you to decide.

But now push the game to 60. The current end-game content had YEARS to build up. If we now have a new leve level 55-60 end-game, it'd either take extremely long to make and be a drain on Paragon Studio's resources just to get something equal in quantity to the level 45-50 range, or you'll get one raid and one TF and a couple of story-arcs. And what then? Will you then again remark about the lacking end-game content?

Long story short: More end-game content IS always welcome, it's even one of Going Rogue's intended purposes. You just can't have both more end-game content than before and a new level-cap.

    5. better rewards (say for t/sf should up the merits, lot of us dont plat 8 hours a day and takes FOREVER to try to Purp a toon out, and should beable to buy purps with merits, i have not yet to have a toon purped)
SO LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY CASUALLY PURPED-OUT WARSHADE.

Let me break this myth for you: Purple sets don't make your toon into an unstoppable juggernaut. True, they do make you more powerful, perhaps significantly though, but the real reason to have purples is just to show them off, like bragging rights, so to say.

In fact, purples ARE supposed to take forever to get. Aside from the raids and TFs, they're the big end-game scavanger-hunt of the game. You can't both demand more end-game and demand it's done in a month. Again, you can't both have your cake and eat it, too.

    6. uhmm sure no one ever thought of this lol diff maps ( not just new zone/ content eaither gets so old when you end up seeing the same map over and over)
And on that one, I actually do agree with you. Generic missions, like Radio/Paper missions, might suffice with generic maps, but the thing is, you see the same warehouse, office building and laboratory map all the bloody time. In a game that is all about instances, actually unique environments are more than just nice to have. While MMOs, by their very nature, are a lot more about repitition than other video games, it's about how you hide the grind.

Quite honestly, it's hard to tell what the difference between farming and doing a Citadel Task Force is. Actually, there's a key difference: At least farms stick to the same place.

    7. the PvP sucks still
I'm not a PVPer at heart, so I can't say too much on it. It's true, PvP is more or less just tagged onto the main-game. CoH was simply designed as a PvE game. I really can't say more about it because I just don't PvP much. I dabble occasionally in some of the PvP zones, but that's it.

Now, mind, the game isn't flawless, far from it. As far as I'm concerned, the early content is showing it's age, coming from the EQ design school of 'let's make the game as tedious, slow and repititive as possible AND THE PLAYERS WILL LOVE IT'. There's nothing wrong with adding new stuff, either. I like new stuff, I think everyone likes new stuff. You just need to take a minute to think what kind of new stuff we need. Your shotgun approach of THIS AND THIS AND THIS hardly adds anything valuable.

Oh, and please, use some bloody line-breaks. Do you know how painful it is to read a list when you can't visually tell where the first point ends and the second starts? Show some bloody courtesy when you post on a forum and use the enter key.
  8. Does any other damage set have any -res powers?

If I'm not completely mistaken, -res seems to be firmly tied to the category of debuff sets, and for good reason, I'd like to think. Giving even just half the set sounds like it might potentially break the balance and would let your suggestion outperform every other melee set while they're still in the early levels all through to the end-game.

To be fair, City of Villains started out as a sort of stand-alone expansion of sorts. You could play CoV without first purchasing CoH. So if someone said they played CoV, you could at least assume they only own CoV.

Of course, the point's moot now that they combined the games for good, so yeah, I suppose technically calling both City of Heroes as a whole makes sense, But City of Heroes and Villains have a history of starting out as separated, at least I got used to either referring to them separately or as CoX to refer to the whole.
  10. With SSK, you also get Mentor badges whenever the team's doing your missions, too, so you also get badges along with everything else PennyPA mentioned.

There's really not much to do to make teaming more valuable without also breaking the game. Rather, I think making FORMING teams easier is the way to go.

Say, you know how you can set your flag to "Looking for Anything/Missions" etc etc, so you'll always show up on top on search lists? Imagine a search list for teams instead. The team leader flags their team as looking for members for whatever they're doing and players will know who to send tells if they wanna join a team that's, say, already in an instance and therefore outside of broadcast range.

Or, on that note, make a new channel like broadcast, except the new one will reach reach even to instances. Of course, it would also need to be part of the initial, un-edited chatbox, complete with a fancy button to be immediately able to type in that channel. Definitely DO NOT bury the channel under other channels and don't even allude to its existence like the AE channel.

At the end of the day, though, CoX is played by humans, and it'll always be down to luck whether you can find 20 teams a day or go 20 days without anyone wanting to teaming up with you. That's the nature of the beast, especially with an MMO as soloable as this one.

Semi-unrelated, but is it confirmed you'll definitely get into GR Closed Beta if you're a 5-year vet/been part of the Loyalty program/preordered GR, or do you merely get the CHANCE of getting into the Closed Beta?

I tend to overlook fine-print, so I don't wanna get my hopes up just because I was part of the Loyalty program.

  13. I have to echo the sentiment that the article is light on... well, anything.

I was hoping for some valid criticism that could actually serve to improve the game, or at the very least some overly ridiculous complaints that'll amuse. Instead, we get "Well, it's kinda old by now I guess" and some addendum on what the author wants to see in Super Hero MMOs in general, but isn't even directly related to CoX or even the other Super Hero MMOs, current and future.

Okay sure, it's an opinion piece, but if every column in a newspaper would be "In my opinion X is pretty Y", journalism would be dead.

The thing is, I actually do think the game is showing its age at certain parts and could do with a revamp, but, I reiterate, "It's five years old" isn't very concise, or addresses a problem in the first place.

    Really, it's just poor journalism.
  14. Virtuite here as well chiming in.

True, Virtue has its share of unsavory individuals solely due to the fact it's the second-most populated server, but aside from the 'normal' idiots, I don't feel the RP crowd is too bad.

The ERP/Erotic Role Play stigma, especially, really seems overdone. I'm close to a year of playing on Virtue, and I've witnessed a grand total of two people taking their ERP to Local. I haven't spent a lot of time in Virtue's Pocket D, and I wouldn't exactly be surprised if it's a wretched hive of scum and villainy, but the thing is, while you're out beating up baddies, you will rarely, if ever, encounter any ERP. The ERPers probably just take it to /tells where it bothers no one.

As for elitists, I haven't really encountered any myself. Bracket-talkers never gave me any lip for not RPing, or for not using parenthesis when being OOC, which is the case about half the time for me. The parenthesis never bothered myself, either, but hey, different folks different strokes.

Now I'm not saying anyone who disagrees is wrong. This is all purely anecdotal. Really, the best way to find out how 'right' or 'wrong' the people are about the servers is to just see them for yourself. You can play on every freely and you might want to test the waters before 'settling' on a server, or maybe play on several or even all of them.

If it all boils down to server population, though, yeah, Freedom's your best bet, I suppose.

You know how an artist's merchandise rises in value after the artist dies?

Hero 1's family will be able to buy Great Britian with the money they'll make with the Hero 1 Collector's Items and Memorabilia that're inside the time capsule.

Actually, what he did wasn't exactly against the EULA or ToS. If you give someone Inf and they run off, there's nothing a GM can do. Really, it's like handing someone your bag full of expensive stuff because you forgot, I dunno, to buy a packet of milk back in the shop, and when you return, you find he's nowhere to be seen.

The only thing you can do is find a regular player or several you are reasonably certain you can trust and ask them to help you with inf-transfers. Asking strangers is just too much like playing Russian Roulette and you already found out what the bullet's like.
  18. You should start your despotical reign by declaring the former leader as Base Enemy #1, to be shot on sight and then shot again. It's the only right thing to do in this situation.
  19. When you enter the final mission of the Lady Grey Task Force, your fight is the aftermath of a confrontation between Vanguard, Longbow and Rikti. The entire first floor is littered with bodies.

That's already an eerie sight, but the main-seller is the fact that the bleak background music from the Ritki crash site carries over into the first rooms of the mission. The bleak music just underlines the desperate scenes and does a perfect job of setting the mood.

With that anecdote out of the way, I do agree that more music would be very nice. Most video games use music to complement the setting to great effect, so I don't see why CoX shouldn't.

On the same token, when creating your character, you are not your character, but your character's author. And honestly now: Which self-respecting author forgets to name their characters when writing their stories and only comes up with one halway through? Especially after the first half has already been published?

I can see why people want something similar to CO's naming system. I don't, and I personally prefer the current, restrictive naming system much in the same way I like sonnets, but I can see where those people are coming from.

Your suggestion to have a mid-way namechange or something, however, seems awfully specific. Right now, I'm just not convinced it's something the playerbase needs but rather something you, as a single individual, wants. That's fair enough, mind, but unless you can rally up some more support for your specific idea, I'm just not convinced it's something the playerbase would largely benefit from and encourage long-term subscriptions.

So, basically, you're just saying "I WANT MORE GR INFORMATION NOW!", eh?

I understand, I really do, but I'm afraid you just gotta show some patience. It's all scheduled already, so at least we know how long to wait until the next dump of vague and blurry information.

Why yes, I, too, am impatient.
