A realistic way to add vehicles to the game...
Basic counter-argument: I want to activate my Helicopter Fly inside of this office building I'm currently fighting in. <Helicopter commences to clip through tons of wall and ceiling geometry>
Even more so, how can we restrict wheeled vehicles to streets?
I like the idea of vehicles, but they should be offered in addition to normal travel powers. Probably not going to use my Supermobile in the Shadow Shard, for example. And how would I get my helicopter through the Portal Corp portal?

How do these vehicles impact strafing? Can you strafe on a motorcycle, for instance?
How about activating powers? Would they work in/on the vehicles? How about even just toggle powers? Would they stay on?

For strafing, very sharp turns. As for attacks, that's where travel power suppression would kick in. It could revert back to the Legacy Travel Power when attacking and when the supression stops, it's back into your vehicle.

That sounds like a tricky animation situation to rectify. What about outside clipping? How are you going to stop people from driving a car up one of those tiny little corkscrew staircases in Steel Canyon?

huge animation nightmare. also strafing is side to side movement, not turning. vehicles probably will never be added into the game at any time. you have to rememberthat vehicles are more then just cosmetic changes. they have to be believable and interact with the environment also. look at the cars and trucks in game now. they do not look right or interact with the environment very well.
The only really reason I could see a need for non-power based travel is for RP purposes. For those characters who are 'powerless' (IE: Katana/WP scrapper, AR/Dev blaster, etc). And even then, the air is pretty much covered by the jetpacks (although, I would like to see faster version made. Something that can keep up with the regular Fly). A temp ground based travel 'vehicle' is the only one that's missing.
The only one I could see actually working is a small and sleek motorcycle. Much like how the MM thug rides in on his when summoned, you could have a batman-inspired auto driven motorcycle pull up beside you, animate the character to get on and trigger the speed boost. It could be small, so using it in buildings and up stairs isn't so far fetched. It would also reduce clipping with objects.
Or, if that's too much, I could see a 'jet pack' being applied to ground based speed. Instead of pushing you up, it pushes you forward.

Why is it that when ANYONE posts the 'latest and greatest' way to 'efficiently implement vehicles' it's always ignoring the most basic of questions and mechanical setbacks?!
How does it strafe? How does it turn like we do? How does it go into buildings? And if it just goes to 'Legacy Power' then why is my Kung Fu character flying in the air like some magic guy?!
How does combat work? How will this affect load times? How will I zone? How does it enter/exit? What happens if I'm attacked? Can I drink coffee while on my vehicle?
These are serious questions.
Agreed. Vehicles would need to be treated more like "mounts" in traditional MMOs, with limitations on where you can use them, power usage while using them, and limited amount of animations and movements (no strafing, etc.). Simply "slapping them on" to Power Customization is fraught with problems and ugly-looking scenarios (like driving a car up an outdoor spiral staircase).
Bah, I don't care about vehicles. I just want a "firing a grapple line off into the city" animation that I can macro up to switching on Super Jump. Is that so wrong?

How do vehicles dynamically orient themselves when moving over angles surfaces.
How do they solve the need for realistic acceleration/deceleration? You can kind of handle one with Drift from Flying, but as of now, when you start moving, you're going max speed. That's not particularly immersion breaking for a superpower, but it would become so for vehicles.

My idea is that you can have a vehicle depending on what type of travel power you have.
IE, Fly: Helicoptor, Sky Raider sized air craft, etc...
Super Speed: Motor Cycle, Car, Monster Truck, etc...
In the revamped costume creator, you could go to a tab that has your travel power and choose:
Lagacy Travel Power, Custom Travel Power and Vehicle.
When choosing vehicle, it gives you options to change it's color, possibly add parts, etc...
Plus they don't have to be big, these could be an alternative to flying, running, jumping or teleporting.
Plus you could either go to Icon (Iforgot the name of the COV tailor), or there could be an additional building like a Garage where you could get new parts, get it altered, etc...
Plus you could add one in the RWZ base and have him as a scientist.
Well, what do you guys think?
