My main (see sig) hasnt taken either... yet, but thematically favors the Axe. My MM's have been taking the Axe since it is actually decent, and I do a LOT of CoT missions; so it helps when the Ghosts decide to take on the Master vice the Henchies. Melee characters generally take Sands; Ranged and Support are a mixed bag as to choice, but I have been taking GA more often lately.

Well, the etymology of the term Magi actually only touches on the supernatural in a pejorative way from the original.
The original Magi (from which we get the word Magus) were an hereditary class of Medean advisors who became incorrectly known for using astronomy (or astrology) to predict events when in actuality they were most known for their ability to interpret dreams. The astrologic addition is attributed to a Rav-Mag of the Medo-Persian Empire who prophesied a future astronomic event to mark the birth of a king. During the Parthian (easy etymology here) Empire, no king was seated without the backing of the Magi, and their respect in the East as advisors and political powers may have given us our term magistrate. In the West (Greco-Roman Empires), the term denigrated to mean a charlatan who used trickery to gain power over others, and thus the terms magic and Magus were added to the lexicon.
The terms Magus or Shaman are not so much persons with supernatural powers as much as 'Wise Men' (heh), and as such a Magus or Shaman is a Leader by means of wisdom or his mental abilities. Which in turn can be applied to the Rikti Magus and (slightly) to BP Shaman ingame.
Yeah, linguistics interests me... we all have our cross to bear. But a Rikti Magus doesnt have to be powered by the supernatural as much as by his own mind or will. Make sense?
As far as Origins; I have stated in other threads pertaining to this that I dont see a real need to make Origins mean more than they do now as that would (as others have stated) probably only end up making players choose one Origin over all others for some perceived or actually ingame gain. They are nice flavor now, and that is as it should be IMHO. -
I'm up for it if there be room for a Lvl50 Bots/Dark.Soul MM.

Time to drop the 'beating a dead horse' for 'beating your head against a wall'. The Devs appear to be 'dead set' against it; time to move on. I'd produce a Dev post stating such, but that doesnt seem to help when it is done.
Plenty of Vet Rewards I like, want, have, gonna get, and the converse. Patience builds character... and in this day and age of 'gotta have it NOW!'; we could use more characters (slots too!).
Of course, that is the reason my wife and I run "The Entitlements" Super Villain team of Kimmie MOAR and Ivannette NAO on Guardian. Everyone wants MOAR NAO in this game. -
So, is it over yet? If it's still going on when I get off work (7pm PST); I will help. Came closest that I have on Guardian in a week last night with Eaion. Sadly, this event could have been a little more endearing with a couple more tweaks. I mean sure; it's s Zone Event, but the Regen, Mob spawn levels, etc. just seemed to kill it. If you couldn't get at least two full teams (or thereabouts) you couldn't overcome the Damage/Regen ratio to take down the banners. And I was switching toons to find the best Debuffer for it.
If my wife and I can take out the RV Heroes with our twin Rad Corruptors; we should be able to Debuff a Banner so that 6 other people can Brute/Widow/Spider it to nonexistence in time.
Wish the Devs had left it up on Test a smidge longer to get the tweaking right. Sure, I've gotten the badges on a number of toons, but multiple times (to get the Temp Powers); not with this iteration, and not enough interest obviously for my multpile Badgers who could have used the badges. -
Quote:Careful what you wish for. Or to be more exact, strip it out yourself in the Options Menu. The reason I would say be careful is that CoV in general was (as you intimate) a graphics upgrade to CoH. GR is going to add a much larger upgrade, although you will be able to 'tone it down' as the Devs have stated so that you are playing in 'normal' mode graphics. The problem there is that you are really only getting part of the experience (for one), and there will be effects that Ultra Mode will place on 'normal mode' (just guessing here) due to legacy issues (inverse legacy?). Again a guess, is that this is what the Devs are hard at work on presently as they focus on GR above all else.If the Devs would go through the Villainside zones and systematically strip out the art so that
they
don't
make
mycomputerstutter
just

I'd play villains.
I run middling level machines, and have a few stutters (mostly Grandville is the culprit), but at the HeroCon I got to play on what I would consider a high-end machine. It was as expected; sweetness and no lag at all in Grandville. If I want to play like that; I will have to upgrade my boxes. I cant afford to for now; so I 'get along'. But as with all gaming... you gotta upgrade sometime, kid. You cant play WoW on an Atari 5200 either (although with the cartoony graphics; I am sure someone could probably program it). And that is what you are stuck with; upgrade or die. Sad but true. There is always a point of no return.
I still prefer CoV vice CoH because of the refinements to CoH that CoV brought in as far as gameplay is concerned. And if I have graphics issues; I just crank 'em down. -
Already planning my costume for next year. After Live Mission on JForce (LegendaryJMan & Co.), it looked to be silly fun. And we really need to get a Guardian Event together to represent at the Con. So are you with me... or are you with the terrorists? Cuz if we dont get Guardiancentric; they win. Or something to that effect.
Hmm, any other jingoistic phrases I can abuse? -
Do not try and start a Raid. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.
There is no Raid. -
It's interesting to hear things like the OP. From my somewhat limited understanding of programming and engines; it's not so much what the engine can and cannot do, but a matter (especially with this Dev team) of what they can make look/act the way they want. Again, from my understanding (or misunderstanding) while there hasnt been a complete change to the core engine of the game, there have been and will be changes to the graphics engine and other parts of the program we call CoH. PhysX added an improved physics system to the already existing game program which allowed for more realism. Ultra-mode graphics will up the ante of realism, and you can look around for more info on that, but I will say it is terribly impressive in person. What does the future hold for CoH without putting a '2' on a new box set? I dont know, but it will be impressive.
As far as 'what the players want'? Cake and circuses. Fully deformable and persistent worldmaps? Paragon or the Isles as a Mayhem mission? I've heard some of that. Personally, I do not want that. Players with those sort of dreams seem to basically want the world to change as they change it, and then remain static until their next login. Selfish? Sha, of course it is, but that's the way of it. Of course, that is better suited to an Enduser-only game than an MMO like CoH at least at this time. But what might the Devs have in mind for the game? Time will tell, and when they say "we cant do it"; remember: the Devs wont put something out until they can put it out the way they want it to look/act. Looking back over the years of development at Project:CoH, the Devs have actually done a lot of things that they originally said they couldnt do, but for reasons that they said it couldnt be done. They are malleable, and do want things that will interest the subscribers, if they can do it. It may (read: will) come with some bugs at first, but it will be as close to their vision as they require, or it wont come at all. And the Devs appear to prefer to disappoint us now than to disappoint us later with unfulfilled promises. Although, it is part and parcel of computer programming that there will be 'unfulfilled promises' and disappointments, but this team does a pretty good job overall.
So, for clarification; what are you looking for that 'cant' be done? Is it reasonable? Is there 'enough' desire for it to make it fiscally feasible or desirable for the Devs to consider? Just some questions to ask when you think about what you want?
Of course, I would be interested to hear what 'cant' be done anywho. Just interested to hear what this might be. -
Sheesh. THIMK! O ye Server merge people, THINK! And go, go Gadget /jpowerranger.
You can merge my Server when you can pry it from my cold, dead network. -
Wouldnt this be more of a 'cookie' problem on client-side or individual ISP-side than a matter of "sloppy coding" if the vast majority of people do not have this problem. Not snark; just asking because that sorta sounds like the problem to me.
-
I appreciate the time and descriptions, but sorta sounds like a cross between a Mind Controller/Dominator and an Illusion Controller with three Tiers of Toy Henchies (not 'Pets'; 'Henchmen' for accuracy's sake). Since you only imply strings; wouldnt this be more accurately a Toy MasterMind set?

Quote:While I can understand what you are desiring; the She-Hulk is not, nor ever has been a Huge body type. She is a completely normal proportioned female body-type and 12 inches of additional height with green skin. That has always been part of the joke. Unlike the Hulk, she has more control of her transformation both mentally and physically; if you want to call it control. She is just a female of more statuesque proportions. If you dropped her from her officially stated height of 6'7" (http://marvel.com/universe/She-Hulk) to a more 'normal' height; she would just be some green chick (and Captain Kirk would be hot on her trail). Not meaning to be snarky, but the innaccuracy of your statement is silly.NO! Go away and never bring up this HORRIBLE idea again. Listen, I WANT a Huge Female model. I've been asking for it for years. But probably the WORST way to make it is to just retrofit the MALE Huge model. A Huge female is not some sort of disproportionate monstrosity with a vaguely female head atop a male body. Not outside the groutesques of female mass bodybuilders. A PROPER Huge Female model would be something on the order of the She Hulk - tall and muscular, but not tumour woman to the Huge's Tumour Man.
Quote:Essentially, a Huge Female would ideally be taller and have muscle sliders tied to actual muscles, rather than to the size of the butt and the size of the breasts, would have its own set of running and jumping animations, would have a more ripped base skin texture and would start out bigger. A lot of those things can actually be retrofitted into the current female model, but sliders, height and better upper arms can't.
The reason the Huge body-type looks (as you stated it) like tumor man is that in the Super Lexicon there are a number of gigantically twisted endomorphic male bodies (ie: Juggernaut, KingPin, et al {risking the wrath of TheOcho here}) who while masculine have some pronounced features (lack of apparent neck, 'squat' proportions) that actually appear to be based upon the design of a human body with 'dwarfism' but using that term in game would bring down all sorts of protest due to insensitivity (and I would agree). Create a Huge Body and set the height slider to its shortest, and you have Puck (from Alpha Flight) Let's be honest here, and not disingenuous. The comic hero Puck is essentially a Huge body type of short stature (and suffers from dwarfism) while She-Hulk is just a tall muscular green lady (not a Huge Female body type).
Again, not to be snarky, but to really get at an accurate description of a Female Huge Body Type; you got anything else? Because She-Hulk as a Huge Body Type: Female just doesnt wash.
I wouldnt have said anything, but your continued argument using this example finally made/compelled me to post for accuracy. You just want a female with more pronounced muscles, Sam; nothing more, but it aint a Huge Female anymore than the Huge body-type is just an overly muscled male. -
Quote:While true, M-B, a second (or third) account equals "another person". I've got 3 accounts (me/wife/son), but decided to wait for the inevitable change to the numbers. Patience paid off in this case.On a side note, for the people who don't have it yet... you don't really need another person for the arena healing. If you have a half-way decent system, you can run a second account yourself to keep the opposing side open. If you don't have a second account, just send yourself a Refer-a-Friend trial. With today's requirements, it wont take longer than your trial to get the badge. I did succeed last week in gaining Empath in only 3 nights of farming while I was asleep, (but that was having a 3rd account logged in with fillers to provide more targets and faster progress).
-
Just got Empath on my main on Friday night without farming. Although, I have had the Longbow Warden (healer) since the PvP Mish Glitch of '05; I have never farmed healing because I just could never get anybody together to work an Arena Farm. Also most of that healing was off my pets since I solo for the most part.
Thankfully, the numbers were 'normalized' to a rational level. -
Okay. I think I've got it. Broccoli and two goatees. Check!
::: Editted for clarification :::
Uh, does the broccoli get one of the goatees? Both of them? Or None? -
Okay. My main is the descendant of a very 'bad' guy from about 4,000 years ago; a restless spirit who will periodically (continuously and consecutively) become part of or gain control over one of his descendants (who are generally 'good' people) through a demonically charged ritual formula (it's complicated). Through the millenia, this spirit has mellowed (gotten jaded), and by the time he became 'part' of the latest descendant (a decidedly Heroic personage) he has gained scruples, wisdom, a warped sense of humor (puns included), and is a pretty nice guy. He is now basically a 'Villain' with the heart of a 'Hero' stuck in a demonic curse cycle who is stuck in a Hero's body who has been pschically forced into villainy and is playing the Villain so that he can be a Heroic guardian.
Now that I've confused myself; how do I 'Praet' him? -
Not to sound snarky, but this comment/reaction/POV/whatever always pulls me up short.
As if playing a game makes one 'good', 'bad', or just a 'technogeek with money, a PC, an Internet connection and too much free time' (or 'indifferent' if you prefer). I used to play with a 'Hero' who was very adamant about not playing CoV (eventhough he had bought the Collectors Edition for other reasons and could then play Redside). He told me that he just wasnt 'that sort of person'. I had to wonder after all his claims of comeraderie and such just what he actually thought of me when I began playing 90% of my time Redside. Not that it mattered by that time because he had shown himself to be a bit of a jerk ingame (not that it is a crime to be a jerk; everyone has their foibles). A year or so later he too began playing Redside, but had alienated himself from a good sized group of friendly players for nonesense reasons.
Play Red; play Blue; play Chartreuse with Pink polkadots. The missions are the same with a bit different textual flavor. I just prefer the AT's Redside because the Devs had a year to fine tune playstyles before they added them to the game and made AT's that felt a lot more fun and playable to me. Plus the graphics were better/richer and the Story Arcs and Mission Progression had been fine tuned over CoH, useless timesinks had been eliminated, etc. (CoV=CoH Improved)
I used to have a short 'Cut and Paste' for just this sort of comment ages ago, but now I just say "go talk to HardCase". Have fun; whatever you do, and try not to think too badly about us "Villains". -
Whoah. This is a blast from the S&I past. Yep. I would play with it, but then I still rollout BattleZone once in a while too.
Swear I'm gonna make a Grizzly1 toon one of these days. -
Quote:This.
It sucks that I have to live with a mis-typed global chat name for the lifetime of the game -- assuming we don't get another free token a la AE Issue. I just fear that I'll never have another opportunity to correct the mistake, short of cancelling my account and creating a whole new one. Of course that's silly, since I'll lose all my vet rewards.
The once-a-year flag is a very good idea. Although this is a feature I'm willing to pay for to support development.
My condolences. Could have more humor, but it is what it is. Heck, I dont know how many times they have introduced a Global Name change token (for lack of a better term), but there have been at least three in my History with CoH. Perhaps even four, but I know empirically that there have been three since Issue 5. So, actually it is almost one a year; at least for me.
Good luck. -
Iz mist Heriburthday? Ninus = sad panda (no orange chicken)
Happy belated then, Herri! What is it anywho? 24? 25? -
Quote:I dont really see a problem with this especially since it seems to broadcast to the world whenever someone changes their Global (probably something like angels and bells or somesuch). So, I will back you on this idea.I used my free ticket to change my global, and I screwed it up... So just throwing the idea out there to extend the option of purchasing player name changes to including your global name as well... Just . . . throwin' it out there. Right there on the table.
*descreetly slides the idea across the table top*
I have to wonder what you messed up though. Just because I am nosey (and you dont need to say), but I imagine @TheCakedNinja? @TheNakedNini? @TheNakedEnya? The mind boggles, and I will be thinking up new possibilities for the rest of this play session.
And not being snarky, just being silly... and I am trying to figure it out. -
Editted since the problem was solved while posting.
Good luck in game.
