  1. WHOOOOOOSSSSHHH!!!!>>>>> Just got in under the wire.

Many Happy returns of the end of the birthday. Badgeday? Same number of letters... hmmm.
  2. Actually, I have had it 'hang' for a minute or two between deletion and re-creation where it would not immediately accept the new/old name. I had Powersets, Costume all ready to go, but just a smidge too quickly for the Server DB to acknowledge the clearance of the name. YMMV.

Ahem. In reference to Kheldarn's OP, may I borrow a line from Pepsiman.

I've been saying that since shortly after CoV came out, but figured I might as well not cause a tempest in a teapot here. But that is a true statement.

I would also venture to say that until the improvements were implemented to Paragon City a number of Issues back; CoH1 and CoH2 (CoV) were basically running in tandem on the Servers.

Again; true. That's what i was attempting to get across. There is no need for a CoH2 when the MMO is dynamically improving incrementally. Not being a Coder; I cannot say it with any authority, but my guess would be that the present Game Engine is not the same Engine it was at launch, just due to the improvements in the game already. Basically the same Engines; probably, but an improved version (just theorizing here).

Again; powers that werent possible (read: looked good enough for the Devs to approve) at Launch, will probably make it into the game In Time™ or Soon™ Enough.

You know, the only people I ever see mention a CoX2 are Players. And I dont even think it is on the minds of the Devs. With the Issue System, and the Expansions so far. I'm not seeing any 'need' for a CoH2 even on the distant horizon. Just so someone can throw a rope with a hook? Or play Greco-Roman rasslin'? Meh.

The Devs upgrade Powers and mechanics on the fly and over time. At least that is why I dont see that there will be a CoX2 at least for a long while, if ever. A dynamic game is better IMHO than one that needs to be dropped in order to make a completely new game. I am sure others that have followed MMOs even more closely than I can explain why. I would fall back on the EQ/EQII story. Dividing your playerbase isnt the best of both worlds. If it works; fine. If not; youre hosed. And killing off an MMO in favor of the NEW MMO; is just as liable to cause a mass case of 'why bother' in your subscribership.

And as far as Water-based Powers and graphics. I say give it time. As mentioned before; we had a Water Blast Set, and I am of the opinion that we will probably have one in the future. As soon as the Devs are satisfied with it. Probably another VidCard Standardization upgrade or two, or when 'most' players will have made the migration to better VidCards that will handle more advanced and better looking graphics. Which puts it at sometime after the present worldwide economic downturn turns the corner, and people can afford it in larger numbers.
  7. Meh. And I do mean Meh.

The Respec Trials were made principally for the chance to Respec a character that was gimped in some way, and so some find them difficult. Make them harder, and well, you could, but why bother?

    Someone please help me
    You must level quickly because...

I mean, even with the vaguely referenced 'End Game Content' mentioned for Going Rogue, there's no real need to run to 50. I'm not saying I dont understand the desire, but what's the rush? Want to get a VEAT unlocked the 'old fashioned' way before they become available when you level a toon to 20? Respectable, but you still have plenty of time twixt now and Issue 17 (I think) to Level a toon any old way to 50, and if the you want to hit 50 for the aforementioned 'End Game Content'; well, that's still further away than Issue 17.

It's the journey, and all that. Otherwise, just up your Rep and wail away on scads of baddies either alone or with a team. Simple. Specific missions for more XP? Meh. I'm sure there must be some missions out there that are more XP-tastic by some degree, but if youre just gonna PL anyway; stick with AE. You say you understand why leveling slows down. Well, that's just the way it is. Again, simple. It takes a little more time in an almost geometric progression (but not quite that drastic). Good luck.

Didnt take long for the Flood of corrections to appear. OMG! Get Master Chief!
  12. Personally, I always thought that Energy Blast looked like a Water Blast set (I arrived at the end of Issue 4), and then I found out that it had indeed been Water Blast prior to launch. But then I dont have any problem calling an Energy Blaster a Water Blaster. Heck, if they can RP character Origins on Virtue; I can RP Power Sets on Guardian.

Besides, I would darn near defy anyone make a 'great' looking Water Blast. I really dont think that Water Blasts (water cannons, etc) look enough like Water Blasts in real life, but that's just me. I am picky. But I will also accept something that looks 'close'... perhaps that's why I am not a Dev?
  13. The concept is that you are stronger than your Henchmen; thus they are lower level than you with the obvious exception of the Tier 3 Henchie. He is the same Level, but you are still the Boss. Sort of a show of your own Power and ability to control an equal, but you arent going to surround yourself with equals to tempt the Fates. I mean, in game lore at least, Lord Recluse's lieutenants are not his equals, but His only true equal is the Destined One (whomever that may be).

Besides it works fine as is.
  14. Man, I miss out on all the cool stuff because I have to work such long hours. Enjoy everyone. I will be busy in the support role again (making money to support the game with subscription fees... grumble)

The purpose of a control is to reduce the damage a mob can do to players, normally this works by stopping them attacking at all but not always as shown with Illusion which does this by redirecting attacks away from players, Ice-based power sets are also regarded as having control primarily because they reduce the number of attacks an enemy can make, thus reducing the damage it can do.

In essence all Imob, Hold, Sleep, Disorient, Fear etc. do is reduce the damage an enemey can do, they just have different ways of going about it. Distort Age is simply a very direct way of reducing a enemies damage, not by making them unable to attack or be distracted but by reducing the effectiveness of their attacks to the point where they are not much of a threat, I must also stress that Distort Age does NOT reduce an enemies resistance or defence, it does not make them any easier to kill. If it did then yes I would count it as a support power.

Moving on, I also don't quite agree that Time Window is that much like Spectral Terror. Spectral Terror is a pet that has a single target fear and a PBAoE fear, Time Window is just a AoE Fear but I think it would be fine to change it from a fear to say a disorient maybe?
First off, Controller is actually a slight misnomer or actually an incomplete thought. The full term for AT and Power Sets would be Crowd Controller or AT that focuses on Crowd Control; or taking the MOB out of direct contact with the Hero long enough for the Hero to deal with the MOB. As such, Illusion is indeed a Control Set, and why MasterMinds were considered Villain Controllers.

BTW your Time Window power is a summons. Pets are Summons. You might be surprised how many powers in the game are actually Summons or have a Summons incorporated in the power (ie; Twilight Grasp, Oil Slick Arrow, Howling Twilight, etc.). From your description of the Power; it would be a Summons, summoning Time Window; which would then have its effects. Maybe a combo of Fear & % Chance of Mag whatever disorient on Summons to show the possible effects of such a power on the MOB.

And looking at it again a little closer; I would have to agree that the Aging powers are more Debuff than Control, but that is acceptable as other Controller Primaries have strictly Debuff powers also.

^ This what i think they should do.
And that is the rub! Is it worthwhile to code (ie; time/usefulness) for the Devs for strictly RP sensitivities? Answer that question, and everything else (as far as Suggestions go) in the game is a slam dunk.

I can see your reasoning, but I guess being where I am from, I look for the easiest to 'get over' solution to a problem since that is usually the easiest to implement. If it is acceptable to the greater number of players and doesnt outrage the OCD players too much; I say shoot for that. One of my pet peeves isnt RP per se, but OCD RP where the RPers want it all handed to them on a silver platter without putting any imagination into the mix. I could write pages on that subject, but it all boils down to that statement.

But then the Devs (or a single Dev) will go above and beyond without saying a thing, and whip out the silver platter. Props BAB. Gotta respect that.

Well, if I understand you correctly, I would have to say 'think about it for a second'. Whenever you want to sit on a chair right now and (as far as we know) in the future, you have to use an emote. Even point and click on a seat to force a toon into 'Sit Down Mode' is just an emote if the Devs do ever decide to do such a thing.
  18. As others have stated, working "outside the CoH box" IP's into the game would mess with the whole feel of the game. BUT there is this little thing called Guest Author in the AE Listings that can (and do) provide what you are talking about. One of the first was also the webtoonist who actually did a lot for the early advertising of CoH (ie: Scott Kurtz), and he did a lil AE Arc featuring one of his comic Heroes. So...

Otherwise, having any other comic Heroes in the game is just meh.

Hopefully this doesn't come across snarky, as it certainly isn't my intent. I'm just lookin for better info.
Understood, and that was why I answered as I did. No snark offense taken; I sorta figured you were looking for the info for just such a reason as you have stated, but I point to Fleeting's latest post in answer again. 'Close' is about as good as you can get, and as you describe it; would appear to be all you really need anyway, but here's to you finding better numbers. Good luck.
  20. I thought the Prestige/Inf while in SG Mode scaling had been smoothed many Issues ago? Is it truly 50%? Either way, I dont notice it. I run in SG mode for my own or any SG/VG I am in and havent run out of cash yet.

There ya go. That is what felt 'left out' from Time Control, and yet another reason why it really doesnt sound viable in the game as it is. Forcing an NPC backward might be possible, but it would be impossible (as far as I can figure) to do in a PvP situation. Knockback; yes. Run backwards: dunno, would have to ask BABs.

Not necessarily. I have traveled the world and seen many a bar/disco/club/whatever with simply bars and tables standing alone which one could pull a chair up to or stand at sans seat. This would leave it open to the RPer (sheesh, lookit me helping RPers) as to how they wish to appear. I would get rid of the low slung tables in say Pocket D to be replaced with higher tables (I forget what the precise name is for these), and the bars are fine as is but nix the stools that are already there. I would leave couches and booths as a challenge for the truly skilled 'sitter' to show off his or her mad positioning skilz.

Besides which, making these an emote allows both the ultra-mini toon and the mas grande character to sit on an appropriately scaled seat. I know my main Villain (all height sliders maxed) still looks silly trying to sit down on darn near anything. I'm pretty sure that the coding could be done to allow for both ends of the scale to sit at the same table or bar as long as both table and bar are the same height. So mini-toons will just have to dangle their feet on the big stools which they do already.

And although, I would rarely use this (I dont generally RP unless requested by a good friend); I would support this. More emotes!

    Time Control

Interesting concept, and seems well thought out, but there is always a fatal flaw: the Devs. From my take on the Devs' paradigm on CoH Design for darn near everything; it needs to look good and accurate (minus glitches that may occur, of course) or it isnt even gonna get out of the gate.

The problem with this set comes down to how it will be perceived vice what it will do. Most of the basic descriptions are already available for the most part with powers in game already, and particularly in Kinetics as the OP alluded to in Power: Haste. In addition, Distort Age and Mass Distort Age will only show a status effect and no 'real' aging of the NPC or PC (in PvP situations); so IMO the Devs would probably not be enamored of these two. Good powers, but no real zip or pizzazz to make them a focus.

But if I wanted to add my own 2 Inf to this; I would describe Time Window as a Summon similar to (nay, exactly like) Spectral Terror from Illusion Control. Actually, other than the names this set looks like a mishmash of three sets already: Kinetics, Illusion, and Ice for the most part with maybe a smidge of Dark thrown in. Not that this is a bad thing, but I dont know that it is really possible to have a Time Control Set in the game as it sits with its present engine. At least, as I mentioned at the beginning, as far as it being presentable in a manner acceptable by the Devs.

For an example of how exacting the Devs tend to be about these things remember: Energy Blast was originally Water Blast, but they didnt like how it looked.

    ^ This.

PLUS any guide like that would have to be modified everytime there was a new (or 'old' ie: 5th Column) MOB added to the game or a tweak to MOB Attacks/Defenses, etc. Sometimes it is easier to be near precise than to be right for a while then dreadfully wrong when a new Issue or Patch hits. OCD notwithstanding.
  25. Answer: Some Level of interaction can help alleviate the boredom if you are affected by such. OR Some people find it quite easy to make a 2 to 8 man team, enjoy the company, find it a bit faster, etc. OR Some Farm Builds are better or faster in combination with another Build, making it attractive to create a 2 person team for quick drops/time ration. OR There are Static Farm Teams of friends that are designed to maximize drop/time ratio. OR The list goes on and on. You already know the gist of it yourself.

Pure Farms or Friendly Farming? It is sometimes an either/or; not a neither/nor. I mean I prefer to Solo even in an MMO, but I do enjoy interaction, and sometimes that is all that it comes down to; interacting to alleviate the loneliness and boredom of just farming. YMMV
