How quickly do names 'recycle' after delete?

This question has no doubt been asked many times, but the search engine just tells me 'No soup for you!'

If you delete a character that you want to 'reroll', how quickly does the name become available again? Fairly immediate?

Yeah, pretty sure it's straight away, think I've done it before.

Hrm.... it should be pretty quick, but I have no empirical evidence to back that up.

I 2nd this--I too have reused a name within a couple minutes or less of deleting it.

The names become available faster than I can remake a toon, even when I know the powersets in advance and have the costume file saved.

Immediately. I have renamed toons to a name that I'd deleted seconds earlier, I'm pretty sure. That's faster than you could possibly make the new toon.

In fact, I'm certain of it. You see, I have the name "Mouse Police" on every server save Champion (grrr, /em shakes fist at Champion's Mouse Police). At least once I bought a transfer for a blaster on Pinnacle with a name I didn't like, created a character with the same name on Freedom (to force a name change), moved her to Freedom, then deleted the Mouse Police holder character I had there and immediately renamed my transfered blaster Mouse Police.

On another occasion (very recently) I deleted my holder Mouse Police on Justice, then immediately transferred the Mouse Police I had on Pinnacle (the original) to Justice. Name was free for the taking, of course.

And I think I went back to Pinnacle and created a new Mouse Police to keep the name right after that.

As it's been said, immediately. I've deleted and renamed and usually the name was freed up.

However, there was one time when the universe stacked against me and I lost one of my names. In the time I deleted the alt and got through the creator, the name was snatched. I did a /getglobalname and saw who took it too. Oh well. Last I've seen, they left the game during the Mass PvP Exodus. The name is lost now.

Actually, I have had it 'hang' for a minute or two between deletion and re-creation where it would not immediately accept the new/old name. I had Powersets, Costume all ready to go, but just a smidge too quickly for the Server DB to acknowledge the clearance of the name. YMMV.

There are sometimes anomalies.

I tried naming a toon one that I had of a different AT on a different server that had been deleted. First attempt at naming it got me a no go. Tried it again seconds later and it took it.

Cloud on the server's crystal ball or something.

Probably never happen again.

In my experience it has been immediate. I have 2 accounts now, so I save names on my less used (and therefore less crowded) account and then roll up a toon on my main account when I'm ready.

I keep two windows open and on the main account I go so far as to type the name and bio on the ID card and I also get the character ready for deletion on the secondary account. Within 1-2 seconds of clicking "Confirm" on the character deletion, I click "Enter Paragon City" on the new toon. So far it has gone through perfectly every time.
