Maybe not a remake but definately major improvements.
And those who obtain godlike powers eventually become either very bored or morose, because nothing ever seems to be able to challenge them.

I like the levels of power here. If I could breeze through everything even on the highest of difficulty levels, my stay here would have been VERY short.

I realized that as well, and when it came time for me to reenlist, I laughed and told my supervisor I was seperating.

At least my schooling is paid for, or else I would've felt that I got nothing out of those four years.
  5. I'll be honest, I thought about going to Aion, but I didn't because:

    1. I really wasn't ready to start a brand new MMO. And I will only pay monthly for one at a time.
    2. I had just bought several used games, and there was no way the wife was gonna let me spend 50 dollars on another a day later
    3. I'm happy here.
    4. I have too many other side projects going on at the moment (Unplayed and unopened console games that I'd really like to get to, DnD campaign, MUGEN, RPG Maker)
    5. I'm of the kind that waits till an MMO has been out for a good while to try it out (I am aware that it has been out longer in Asia)
    6. Did I mention that I'm happy here?
  6. To respond to an above post as to why we couldn't win the Rikti War without IOs......

Didn't the war happen before ED? The heroes then wouldn't have needed them. I wasn't around pre-ED, but I heard several powersets were good......too good. (Pre-ED Invulnerability is one that I hear about often.)

Then send in the villains. I'm pretty sure there are many Brutes and Masterminds that would not mind this.

Not to mention the scrappers who drool at the thought of taking on an entire world of enemies.
  8. I'm beginning to understand more and more what people mean when they say CO should have been a console game instead of an MMO.

I've also had a week and a half of hassle and annoyance trying to get my new system sorted. But I'll not dwell on that.

I'm currently installing patches/drivers/applications on my shiny, oh so shiny new PC. So while windows is updating, I thought I'd say hello again (not that many people will necessarily have noticed that I was gone).

    New system :
Dell U2410 monitor (it's bloody *huge* compared to the old 17" Sony Trinitron I had).
    Antec 602 case.
    Corsair 650W PSU.
    i7 920 D0 stepping overclocked to 3.40Ghz.
    6Gb Corsair RAM.
    GeForce GTX 285 1Gb.
1 x 500Gb HDD (will be getting more drives eventually).
    LG SATA DVD burner.
Transplanted my old Creative X-FI sound card, G15 Keyboard, and G9 Laser mouse.
Vista 64 bit.... Urk. There had to be a drawback. Got a Win 7 Upgrade voucher though, so I'll likely be trying that eventually.
And a sodding great hole in my bank balance....

So far it seems rather nippy. I've yet to see if that state of affairs will last once assorted bits and bobs get installed.
Ugh, the same happened to me back in July. I suppose it was my fault.....I was overtaxing the motherboard by using a video card that was apparently too much for my PSU to handle.

Got a new ASUS about two weeks later though, as well as another more powerful PSU. Since I was already spending quite a bit already, I decided to just get a new card as well.

Everything has been good since then.

The world would be a much safer and boring place.

What this could mean, and im just saying is that we get could a rushed out GR to try and get back players. People loose interest and coloring powers cant bring them back.

Same....grew up with the NES era of gamers (I'm 25)

For some reason, the games never got old, and I still discover NES games that I never knew existed. (Screw uberleet graphics, the gameplay of older games almost overshadows that of most modern games)

I would actually support this. However, the trial would have to be hard. Nintendo Hard. SNK Boss hard.

Of course, some people would then complain its too hard. Oh well, guess they don't have what it takes.

Not Battletoads, but I was also able to beat Contra without the use of codes. (It took two months to get it down to a science however....luckily it was during a summer break)

No one I know has ever beaten Battletoads though.

I found that while they were just about as good as I was in the newer games (Call of Duty, 3d fighters, etc), when we went to a 2d game or a throwback of some sort (side-scrolling shooters, platformers, Street Fighter 4, old school 2d fighters), I was suddenly far better than them.

There's some sort of huge difference in the new and old. Precise timing and bullet hell gameplay isn't rewarded like it used to be. Instead of timing that dragon punch to counter the guy who jumped at you, the newer games tend to reward hours of practicing borderline exploits in order to do five hour long combo strings. You don't need fast precise movements so much as you need "twitch" reflexes to fire at your enemy as soon as possible. The entire concept of bullet hell throws the younger generation of gamers for absolute loops, as evidenced whenever we played Aegis Wing, a VERY VERY easy (compared to old school) side scrolling shooter on xbox live.

Sure, I kinda sound like grandpa gamer over here, but the kids today seem to have been brought up on entirely different mechanics than the older gamers were. They aren't necessarily worse, they're just not as exposed to a variety of gameplay as some of us. Hopefully retro gaming enjoys resurgences often enough to let them in on what they missed, though.
Another problem that I see is that most gamers these days (Mostly the ones under the age of 19) think that graphics are the only thing that make a game.

I once was behind a kid and his dad buying a game. His dad was picking out a few games that I wouldn't have minded trying, only to have his son say "don't get that. The graphics are horrible." I really wanted to head-desk the nearest wall.

I remember games being fun, regardless of what the graphics looked like. (Nostalgia kicking in now....lol)

Gears of War - mostly easy.
    Mass Effect - mostly easy.
Left 4 Dead - mostly easy.
I felt like this since this generation (PS3, 360, Wii) of gaming started. Some of the reason for this was so that developers could appeal to the "casual" gamer.....the person who either does not have hours of time to play, or does not care about how easy or hard a game is. All they want to do is play.

Last generation did not have this problem as much. It is much more apparent nowadays.

I guess you could buy DLC to get a game to last longer (since some of the longest modern games top out at 20 hours max)....not a fan of that at all though. If I pay 60 dollars for a game, I want a complete product, not a half-finished game that only looks prettier, but pales in comparison when it comes to content to its predecessors. (Looking at you, King Of Fighters 12.) That, however, is for another thread. I could go on for hours.

(Bought this up in another thread a few weeks ago: If only the price of a game were determined on how long a game lasted.....I feel bad for anyone who paid full price for Heavenly Sword, only to finish it in a few days.)

I just decided to stay in the era of PS2 and before. Screw this generation.

i suppose a reworked version of regen would be doable. Add some def and res toggles to help with alpha strikes and a reworked regen toggle that gets stronger with more enemies around you. Maybe add a theme like superior psi res and def to distinguish it from regen. Call it something like... "Willpower."
I see what you did there.

A lot of the powers were precoloured, and they needed greyscale versions in order to let players customise them. This meant they needed to remake the artwork. Then they had to 'attach' powerset to the players much like they did for Dual Blades and Katana customisations. Now, im no developer, but that alone sounds like a mammoth amount of work, never mind adding in all the interface bits and pieces so players can actually make the changes.

Okay it's not 'Going Rogue', perhaps the most anticipated update in the history of the game, but it offers a much more diverse world to enjoy and in my books that can only be a good thing. Though im still slightly disappointed that they haven't announced any customisation options for mastermind pets, im quite pleased with I16 and to me it shows that the devs still care a lot for the game.

Just remember, what appears to be a 'simple update' can often be far more difficult to accomplish under the hood.
This is all true. However, there will be some that will still say "so what the devs should have been using that time to create more content"

It all comes down to what you said: Some people can never be pleased, no matter what you do.

You haven't seen anything yet. Try playing it on Galaxy and Universe level.

Or better yet, try playing Star Ocean 3 on the 4D level.

Oh man, I NEVER want to do that again.

Another Edit: Has to be a Nintendo game......whoops!

Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels. Been stuck at World 8-3 since I was 11 years old. I'm 25 now. (SNES version, so I have had my progress saved for that long. Really.)

I tried to repeat the path I took so many years ago last month. I almost wanted to travel back in time to ask my younger self how he was ever able to do it.
