My Ice tank does better with just SOs (in my build on test).
Always monitoring you defense value is very good advice. It's also a good idea to know the capabilities of the mobs you are fighting, so you can anticipate problems and use insps before hand. Guys with broadswords have -def. Not hard to know that, and to know that -def can't hurt you until it hits you, so make sure you use purples to keep yourself at the def cap.
[/ QUOTE ]
Over a course of a TF full of def debuffs that can drop base def passed -45% with all the ambushes etc I do wonder how many insps could end up being needed. I think more than just watching your base def is a good idea. Bunny hops help as its in, leave taunt duration and out stuff, allow time for def debuffs to go before launching in for an alpha, make there be no alpha, controls work even single targets especially as the higher ranks tend to do the most -def. Its getting so common for people to drop a tank they cant passively tank with. -
Skipping my build suggestion as it was actually Thelema's build with alternative slotting lets compare yours JB and Thelema's.
First though, looking at stamina, in your build JB, the build would of had a greater end rec if 1 of those endmod slots (End Mod Acc Rechg wasn't there for a little end mod bonus of 0.04 eps. Instead there could of even been a standard SO end mod in its place for better end rec by another 0.04. Try switching the lowest end mod bonus and read the total end rec. One of the reasons for this is because there is a total of 6 bonuses that give 0.04 ers. That's one too many.
From looking at Thelemas original build what I also see is, in order to max out damage per attack and get more looking good bonuses you effect the build in other areas. 141.5% damage bonus ED'd down to 101.23% can mean 40% of another kind of bonus thrown away for 6% extra damage in a single attack and I say this, as this concerns the first attack which bonuses just 0,02 end per sec which is a 5th of one endpoint per second. The dam per end of havoc has widened but the lack of rechg bonus has not helped build ups rechg, a power that buffs the heavier hitters which therefore increases dam per end. Rechg increases DPS. Similar stuff is alright with a known intention, but an exact known intention is not something anyone but Thelema can come up with which is why I don't go around changing almost the entire build on people. By raising dam per end you can although have a better first complete attack chain do lower damage over time because the attacks don't rechg together afterwards too well. A burst chain is good but the following attack chains may not be so good as there can be wait time for the heavy hitters.
The main thing that you've done is although you've made attacks slightly harder the DPS on individual attacks has come down a lot, Thelema's Lightning Rod, was doing 288 dam every 39s approx but now you've made it do 287 dam every 57 secs, the cold part is 57 - 39 = 18secs. 18s of waiting to use LR again, which means less alpha the enemy utility over time. It also means its lowered the DPS by nrly 50% to give the worst case scenario. I say worst case cos as there is a proc the average damage over time is the same. What you have is yes a less end costing attack but a no more damaging one in terms of dps. The utility has gone plus the rechg bonuses have gone. Rechg bonuses that greatly improved build ups rechg which gave a 80% damage bonus 25% of the time but now gives that damage bonus 20% of the time. A fifth of an 80% dam buff is lost which means the build does 4 build ups to Thelemas previous every 4. Clearly an attack chain planner would be good to show the average damage of each attack chain over time.
7 secs loss on DR could be a lot, having 7 secs longer on it to wait may lower the powers EPS but I think often even another sec can seem like too late to wait.
As far as intentions go; it could be that you want to front load burst for quick easy targets; or do great DPs for hard long enduring targets; or farm concentrating therefore on AoEs; or be some kind of a mix. Some Brutes like fury as a result of 10 on them and some like the fury as a result of attacking consistently with 4 on them at most. So its the being without a known intention that I look at what someone has already done for their own builds and try to offer slotting choices that may suit it. -
Your icetank with a different player could be found tanking the "cant be tanked" with some slightly different slotting.
I imagine you to be one of those people with a lot of characters and too little time to fine tweak stuff in pve as much as you would pvp. If you could take on the pvp mindset and put it into pve I reckon the icetank would be good enough. The games made up of stuff that some tanks find easier than others but its not a case of there being content that can't be done its a case of some tanks will have more to think about and learn from than others.
The lucky streaks happen so you can decide on taking half an alpha, pulling, controlling, allowing some control from someone else initially, allowing some tankmaging by a really good defender. If you can aim to learn from experiences or look at enemies to overcome in PvE like you would in pvp with a non fotm, you prolly not need to change.
But any excuse for a new tanky is good.
Build anything and then we can see what you prioritize. -
I've seen 2 teams do it before (almost thought it was common). I would love to do it as one team though, if ya up for that give us a shout!
I was in no team on my TA before and in a 3 person team on my blaster before (although amonst other teams) survivability was no different, team size don't necessarily mean anything and both soloed a bomb an all
-
LR is almost 50% longer to rechg and although the DPS remains similar the utility of it over time as an "alpha them no brainer" has dropped.
-
I have to say that powah proliferation is alright an all but some tweaks due to what an AT can do with it or due to an ATs expectations could be nice. I think you can port anything you like around but because of Modifiers, some effects just might not be so hot or beneficial anymore and so the powersets on an AT ain't all that.
-
Good DPS does not equal good DPA. A good attack chain should be with the best DPA chained, and then chains chained. So I choose to disagree.
-
I don't know if many people would of missed this from Castle but please especially read the part I bolded:
[ QUOTE ]
One of the folks who works here came over to my desk to complain about how difficult Ghost Widow is to fight. He was convinced that a scrapper was incapable of soloing her. I told him nonsense and he asked me to prove it.
So I did, using a Katana/Willpower scrapper I have internally.
He then said, well, I'm certain you could not do it with an Invulnerability scrapper. So, I loaded up my BS/Invul scrapper and did it.
He then said, well, you're using IO'd out super-min-maxed characters to do this, there's no way you could do it with a normal build. So, I copied his character from Live and did the fight with his character while he watched. Again, I won. This time, I didn't even need inspirations, in fact.
Now, all of this is completely unfair to him. Why? Well, I have tested against Ghost Widow for years now, and I know exactly how to manipulate the AI so she plays into my strengths rather than into hers. I also got lucky in those three tests -- normally, she beats me about half the time.
In any case, Ghost Widow is a challenge; one of the best in the game. I love fighting against her because any mistake and she's back to full life.
[/ QUOTE ]
I bolded that part cos I do feel that "some" people are "sometimes" inclined to "need" certain powersets with perhaps IOs etc etc because without them they give the enemy everything and take from them nothing anyway. Timing and thinking in terms of table top template game playing (geometry) helps a bunch. When I think of things like a Firetank tanking the entire inner circle for just a TA I don't really see how impossible it can look to so many. -
Despite the fact that you Thelema said you suck at it I thought perhaps that you are quite coy. The extra res slots could be just fillers for what you might get and the build did give me an idea on what maybe your intentions. In removing the -tohit slots for damage in the latter powers I had to pay attention to what the bonuses were in them as I could see sense or atleast like to think I could, see sense in where you was going with that. So to me you don't actually suck.
-
Too much of a need for Parry can mean less damage over time and weave comes in at 47 which is very late, so for me, whats right and wrong is going to be based on intention anyway, my suggestions are blind to peoples intents, people will take them or leave them.
I sometimes look at cost, the 3rd IO in HPT takes the resistance up from 8.42% to 8.91%. Now converted to defense it would be like using a slot to add .24% defense to the build....looks silly now but it ain't when you may want the slot to convert to other bonusing IOs later on anyway so this is about looking at cost and either a SO in that space or nothing in that space may be better. I know when it comes to me respecing temporary slots I like to have a maximum of 10 slots to go in the enhancement tray, then into my salvage table for other use, then take from my salvage table the IOs I was waiting for - I am that tight.
Like with Stamina the build has a recovery of 3.5eps if I swapped one IO for a SO, the build will have a recovery of 3.49 eps. Totally unnoticeable as it means 1 ep after 100 secs, which 99% of the time I may of not needed to achieve that anyway. For cheapness until one changes to IOs the default level of all these slots maybe 30 everywhere there are 3 IOs and as high as poss when there are 2 IOs.
In fast healing there is a 1% difference between 3 IOs and 3 SOs the difference is only 0.1 hp per sec. The saving grace of a lvl 30 IO as expensive as it is, is simply that atleast it levels with you. -
Investigating what you said Larac this (spoiler: minor changes afoot) looks slightly better to me:

Giving myself more than 2 mins now and extrapolating on what I said and going with what you've gone for power wise here is an alternative way of slotting. I shouldn't of gone more than 5 bonuses of the same percentage of anything important:

Its not a build I have therefore I like to play and try to offer some alternative ideas that could be helpful. -
Enhancement Diversification. Sometimes you could be using up slots for tiny amounts of bonuses. Instead of doing that you can enhance your build in other ways by slotting elsewhere for greater bonuses.
-
I am in no doubt someone could post what they would do but it dont take me 2 mins to quickly look at the slots I wouldnt do.
Some IOs changed to SOs because they're cheaper and the difference is unnoticeable. The last slots on the epics emptied for you to consider doing damage rather than lower tohit. Some slots that put you over ED freed up for elsewhere. I would advise on re-ordering in order to get the best slots where you can particularly from lvl 41+.

A general party? Sounds neat!
Hey, how about filling up PD with ACTUAL RP, with actual dance stuff on the dance floor, rather than just a mostly empty club. I swear that floor must still be nearly new and unworn!
[/ QUOTE ]
I've bared witness too the glowie disco balls that Sonics are good at making in PD, I would probably bring mine. -
You're perhaps thinking solo or without pets. I wasn't specifically doing that.
-
I wouldn't of put doctored wounds in health and siphon life. RA and AB would possibly have them whilst Siphon Life goes for another set with bonuses of other figures and health, well health would otomh probably offer +end at best. I used to have range in AB and HO on a toon with SS due to people being that spread.
-
We should look at whats good by asking people if they could only have 2 of the same buff support powersets in a team to cover the entire game (ie 2 cold) for any character they may play what 2 would be best? Emps shouldn't be bottom.
[ QUOTE ]
Would be nice if empaths could heal through walls and around corners and at enormous distances though - that's what most teams seem to expect

Thats partly by what I mean by people not playing to the empaths limitations. -

And yeah i am guessing you are on the verge of posting an apology for all the gender based one liners you have delivered in the past.Just to stick to the "doubles standards" rule.

Of course not! As we all know sexism is only bad if it is directed against women.
[/ QUOTE ]
I remember one woman saying "Only men are sexist" which is not what all women will say. This among other things helps to see your point.
But I like GGs points too. However women do contribute to making "raunchy" characters too.
I thought this was a better topic than the actual topic. -
What ruins empaths is some peoples perception of it because they can't play to within a empaths limitations and get the job done in later levels. In the early levels the spamming of heals becomes the doctrine somehow and not many work together at being within making the other empath powers and the necessity of, the only thing they need.
Unlike sets that offer bubbles, fort can usually be applied to only 3, Heal Aura isn't a great Heal and with no one doing -dam or anyone else offering buffage/debuffage/mezz protection can't necessarily heal out the aoe damage over time against the team. This can mean that ideally the maximum amount of people that are in a position to recieve damage would sometimes be better lowered, ie 1 person. Everyone else attacking the team with only 1 person in a position of being able of getting hit is sometimes the most ideal.
In terms of survivability an empath should be helped to be made capable of getting a team thru the game rather than expected to heal/time any level of damage to any amount of characters over any given area.
In terms of survivability, I would even consider a Trick Archer is theoretically potentially good enough for a Firetank tank tanking the entire circle at once for ages if need be. "How?" is the question everyone should imo work out the answer. -

I am not surprised at the ban but would suggest that its probably a joke (satirical?) made more at the idiocy of past comic publishers that did not of come out as intended.
[/ QUOTE ]
There were people saying that sexist portrayals of women in games based on comics were ok, because that's the way they were portrayed in comics, so I was pointing out the problem with that idea - it means you'd have to include all the other "traditional" things from comics, like the racism - if you're going to try and excuse negative gender portrayals as traditional, then you have to try and excuse negative racial portrayals too - they're both equally bad.
[/ QUOTE ]
I get your point but in COs defense after reading that thread its not easy to establish where and when you were serious or being sarcastic I guess. You should use
more.
I think one of the most great looking caricatures of a superheroine is probably Psylocke. She may of actually won in a voting contest if I remember rightly and Mindslayer could be COs answer to it.
I don't think anything of a cartoony pic. I doubt teenage boys do but the costume is a weapon that could make hero guys want her rather than defeat her gaining influence/time.
On a heroine it would perhaps separate the men who would say "dressed like that she was asking for it" from those who would merely crash their car

Controllers
If you use sleep effects, make sure your team know about it - slept enemies need to be attacked at once to make sure you dont get taken by suprise when they wake up.

*remembers the good ol' days with her Mind Control controller*
How joyful it was to sleep enemies to have a team member use an AOE straight afterwards...

Being a Mind/Emp the Fireblasters tend to do that and die. I am not logged in as a healer. I did the control bit and they should of made use of that. -
I know there are preferences to defenders to ensure pace. When people pick a favourite or two, to me they give away their most favourable type of team dynamic because different types of defenders will have different preferences to different team dynamics without IO set builds coming into it. I think Cold Domination allows more freedom than most sets.
