13 Idiots and a Mothership

OK, so maybe a little self aggrandisement is in order.

For nigh on a year now, there's been a Cold/Storm/Ice themed team running on Monday evenings, calling itself Cold Front.

Pretty much all of us have hit 50, most a long while back, and it's been a fun ride. Since we're starting to wind down, and people are getting a little itchy to try something else, we decided to try a Mothership raid tonight.

There were two instance of RWZ open tonight, so we ambled into RWZ 2 and after a little waiting, there were 13 of us.

Being idiots, we decided to push on regardless. (it also had a little to do with the fact that we've found relatively little that can stand up to all the debuffs, control and damage we can throw around with casual abandon.)

Long story shorter. We won.

U'Kon flattened, everyone stood on the exploration badge at the centre of the mothership, no complete raid wipes.

I couldn't be prouder of the group of lunatics that have been part of this over the past 45 weeks, so I thought I'd post this here where it may get a little more notice. Congratulations to all involved.

I've seen 2 teams do it before (almost thought it was common). I would love to do it as one team though, if ya up for that give us a shout!

I was in no team on my TA before and in a 3 person team on my blaster before (although amonst other teams) survivability was no different, team size don't necessarily mean anything and both soloed a bomb an all

I was thoroughly impressed by how well we did in that raid.

Cold Front has never had an issue with lone, powerful enemies so I think we all knew the Pylons would be the easy part.

The hard part was the massive number of Rikti on the ship (and for my Ice Tanker, the amount of psi damage that they chuck about).

However we managed brilliantly against those odds and once we got stuck in, it became clear that our goal was actually within our reach. We suffered a number of deaths, but nothing set us back and we took the ship just as a larger raid group would.

This was without a doubt one of my finest and fondest moments in CoX. Thanks to everyone involved and enjoy your merits!

We're great!

I had a marvellous time, it was the most fun I've had on a ship raid, and I'd like to thank Echo and Canine for running this idea for nearly a year. To all who joined us over the year, a big thank you. To all who didn't, you missed an absolutely amazing ride .

Last night on Defiant we were 4 Idiots and a Mothership XD

We may do it again but as 4 separate teams just to spawn wozzisname.

Now that you mention it, I do believe it could be done with less, perhaps no less than 3, 3 scrappers. 3 is going to be tight to get all the pylons down. Then those 3 might want to be split and get a bomb each. Then up in the middle the fun and games may really start but they could pull any big guns out of it before entering the middle. I wouldn't put it passed people to do it and would say that to live through the whole thing would offer a great sense of achievement plus vanguard merits

Big GRATS guys! You know, I've come to think that Raids are easier with lesser groups, or that's the conclusion after the last few I've been in. The ones in Union with 5-6-7 teams weer a bit of a disaster, Merits speaking, just 100-150 merits each, while the ones in Defiant with my cold fender and just 3-4 teams I earned about 350 merits each, with me in the middle of the group spamming ice shields everyone and anywhere.

Pardon the intrusion; I was driving by through the UK on my way to France, then back to the US, when I saw this post.

First, great thread name. Sounds like a song by Emo Philips.

Second, on the merit harvesting: On Freedom, we've been able to lock the zone for population count,so we're fielding 5-7 teams easily. With each run, the teams net about 300-500 merits a piece. What makes the big hero/villain count more chaotic is the Rikti spawn count, but if your crews are focused and can follow orders on the Request channel (that's how we do it, at least), you can keep each saucer raid flowing for merits for about an hour a piece, until all the bombs are gone.

When Issue 10 hit, we were walking away with 1000+ merits a piece. Truly the best of times!

Freedom and its numbers is probably why some people would like server merges. Its nice to log in and almost instantly be teaming doing what you would normally be waiting for on any other server.

Have had some very successful raids on Union in the early days, one thing that does come to mind though is that of recent, the raids I've observed are too "impatient" when it comes to pulling the GM etc.

The amount of spawns and merits that can be reaped from the centre of the ship are huge, but if the raid fails before the middle can be taken, well, tis kinda pointless lol
