Quote:I blame myself for this. I had to afk around 6 p.m. to do something and the extra FF would probably have helped a lot. Fire Tankers can get this done fine given enough +Defense and buffs. You all did very well though. That is because my tank sucks... getting hit twice in a row for 2950 hit points and my fire tank only has 2500. It was too fast for healing flames or the emp to heal. Just random bad luck on a gimp fire tank.
I was reminded of how much I really do dislike the STF. -
Hehe nice catch Archie.
It should be faster to hit the Inf Cap these days, if only because of PvP IOs. If you're lucky enough to get one of the big items, you can sell that for two billion right off the bat.
There's just so much inf in the game right now it's impossible not to swim in it once you're level 50. Heck, I just finished IOing my Grav/TA and I'm sitting on 1.2 billion on that character, with nothing to buy.
I'll hazard a guess that it will take you 1.5-2 weeks at most.
Good luck! -
We're withdrawing our challenge to Run & SHoot while we rearrange our roster.
Current roster for Kara & the Hardpunchers:

I needed Citadel Task Force on my Grav/TA, Freedom Server.
I'm putzing around Talos when a group is forming, so I decide what the hey, I'll get my badge and 40 Merits!
We started around 6:25 p.m. and finished around 10:00 p.m., sigh.
The highlights:
- The leader, a Tanker, would NOT start until we had a "healer". I pointed out that taking more damage would be better, since we'd kill mobs faster but he would not relent.
- We finally got a "healer" in the form of a Radiation Emission Defender, who thankfully also cast AM and used toggles in between spamming Radiant Aura.
- Our team was two Tankers, one Grav/TA Controller (me), one Rad/Arrows Defender, one Electric/Electric Blaster, one Assault Rifle/Ice Blaster, one SPine/Invuln Scrapper and one Shield Scrapper. Sounds like a balanced team right? WRONG. The Shield Scrapper got bored after three missions, the Elec Blaster afkd for half the final part of the TF and didn't want to COME to the last mission, despite us asking them to come in so they would get a reward and the badge.
The Rad Defender had an older system (fair enough) so it took a loooooooooooooooing time for them to load into Dark Astoria. By then we were down to two Tankers, the Rad, the Spine Scrapper and my Grav/TA.
We wait for the Rad Defender to load in and Assemble at Vandal (the pool room, yay!). We make short work of him but the worst part was that people were afking constantly, asking for heal0rs from the Rad, the Spine Scrapper went on to solo mobs and then ask for rez constantly and one of the Tankers was: "Ur pet is bouncing mobz I can't herd, plz release pet." >.<
At about the halfway point of the TF (the defeats in IP), people wanted to know when it was over. We'd explained at the start this was about 13 missions, several defeat alls and all Council and everyone seemed fine with it at the time. However, one of the people logged to "have dinner brb" and didn't return for like...45 minutes. Most of the TF was the two Tankers, myself and one of the Scrappers killing stuff, slowly. Very slowly. We urged the Electric Blaster to join the fun several times only to get: "I only fight from range, getting close I die a lot."
Despite it all, we finished arguably the longest TF run I've ever been on since my early days of doing a pug Posi TF on my half-SOd Mind/Bubbler with disconnects...and everyone was happy.
The lead Tanker had been trying to get Citadel done for Task Force Commander for ages, but apparently couldn't find five other people to do the tf with them...

Hope to see you there!
This event is very fun and can get extremely wacky due to pairings. For reference, I was in an event where I got to a semi-finals with a dual Emp line-up, while another had me teamed on a bubbler with a Stalker, haha.
Bring something fun, best of luck to everyone. -
Redside is pretty dead on Pinnacle, for the most part.
I recommend you tag up with one of the more populous VGs and keep your current one for storage.
Welcome back and all that; I've seen you around Cozmic's and hope to team with you again. -
I tried logging in several ways, when that didn't work I simply laid catatonic until 6 p.m. Eastern.

I don't play my Mind Control/Bubbler much anymore because she's on Day Job duty (just one last set to go!) but she's very enjoyable to play...buffing people's defense, locking down spawns and so on, very fun. Oddly enough, I HATED her at the start and really considered unsubbing until a gaming friend gave me some slotting hints and power hints and that really helped.
Honorable mention to my Mind/Cold Controller cos Heat Loss is supa awesome.
I'm sure my Grav/TA will be my most enjoyable PvP toon...but it's unbearably painful soloing with it; teaming is great though!

Quote:Try the Guides section for an overview of the powersets. There isn't a lot that can "nerf" your character, though some sets are definitely more support based than others.
I think I have the basics of the archetype system, but am quite confused as to which powersets to use with any given character. I'm concerned that my choices now will nerf my superheroe in later gameplay. Are there any detailed overviews out there to help me with my decisions?
Quote:
I'm somewhat attracted to the tank and controller archetypes. My experience with the tank in other mmorpgs is that one needs to know the game in order to play the tanker well; is this the case with this game?
Quote:
Are tankers/controllers a needed/wanted archetype for grouping in the game?
Quote:
Are tankers/controllers reasonable solo classes for the time when groups are not available.
Quote:
Is there crafting or a player economy in the game? Not a biggy, just want to know what I'm facing if I subscribe.
Quote:
Which server? Obviously looking for a server with reasonable population and adult super groups.
Quote:
Are new players welcome in the game?
Seriously, you'll find this will be one of the more relaxed communities around. People are friendly and helpful but if I can give one warning...don't mistake the game as "empty" if you see no one on the streets, as most people are IN a mission instance. Use the search feature and send tells for teaming.
Quote:A couple of follow-up questions:
- Many of the replies indicated that no particular type of class is needed in an instance/group (And yes, I come from the "holy trinity" type mmorpg). In these types of mmorpgs, the instance that does not require the trinity could be viewed as one that is not challenging. One of the things that attracted me to this game is reading posts that indicated that grouping is needed at times ( I read this as the game has challenge). So is their challenge in the grouping? Where am
...which brings me to the next point. Scrappers and Brutes are a good starting point for a new player, since they SMASH and are fairly survivable. As you try the different ATs, you'll find one that works for you. I started with a Mind/Bubble Controller and boy was it slow without Containment...but eventually it grew into one of my favorites.
A lot of the established supergroups run "Speed" or "Super Teams" that can triivalize stuff. Bring a Brute/Scrap, three or four Colds, some other stuff...just overkill everything in the game basically. The key thing in this game is that challenge = big boss with a ton of regeneration, damage and special attacks.
Some of the content is gated by levels, you can't do all the task forces at level 10, for example while other content is gated by mission chains.
Basically, just...play the game and see if you like it. You can worry about whether you want to go hog wild on an AT later on. -
Try posting this in the Market section for better results...also have you tried on PInnacle? I'm sure there are some farmers etc. that might have one kicking around.

Kara and the Hardpunchers challenges Omega Run & Shoot.
We'd like to shoot for this coming Wedsnesday if possible. -
Ran my Stone Melee/Energy Aura Brute through the Search Nemesis Army Base mission for about an hour (give or take 5 to 10 minutes for afks):
Set to +1 x4 if that make a difference.
Defeats: 5,208,396
Drops: 251,608
Total Inf: 5,460,004 so about 5,500,000 in less than an hour.
^^ I know the drops seem kinda wonky compared to the defeats, I did get a Mako's Quad, Essence of Curare Acc/Hold, Photonic Weapon, a bunch of common and uncommon tech salvage and one common recipe drop.
I'd just like to say that I don't know how I would survive with only 20-30 million per run (given 5 million for the Mako crafted and a few more million for the rare salvage etc)...clearly the bigtime marketeers are keeping me down in the sewers. I especially blame Peterpeter, as I've developed a conspiracy theory that he's controlling the Fir Bolg in Croatoa...and they aren't giving me a Deific Weapon with every kill.
Damn you marketeers, damn you. =( -
Quote:1. Be careful what you wish for on the stores. The current "store" is the Merit vendor, where you have to grind large numbers of arcs and TFs to get "the good stuff". If the Devs were to put in a store that sold high end gear, the work to get that gear would probably be longer than just earning it yourself or using it the market.so because I think the market should be fixed it's automatic I dont know how to use it? well let me enlighten you I actually do know how to use it but still think it's absurd with the prices that things go for. I'm no means poor or broke and probably have more cash in the inf bank than many of these "for as-is market". And no I dont expect everything to be handed to me but I would like to see the player base get a fair shake and a fair price. I think it's messed up with many of the prices and with really no alternative. and no the seller with the lowest selling price dont always get the sale or then, nothing I put on the market I put for $1 would not sell for over the listed price sometimes when it's not the only one. Hey this is just my idea, and just as I disagree with the market should stay as is and you disagree with it should be changed. and never said SOs are not good enough but I did say as there isa store for them there should be a store for IOs then the prices on the market will be level out to a stable reasonable price while if players want to pay more can just go get it from another player as you can still get SOs on the market but they aint no billions of dollars. why? because you can go get them at a reasonable price elsewhere for the most part.
2. Fair shakes and prices are generated by the players. I got a Ragnarok Triple for 100 millionish, more or less, redside the other day. I just placed a bid and was patient. The key thing is, you really need to be 50 to generate large inf in this game, outside of cashing in Merits. On top of that, each player has a chance to get random rolls, random drops, selling their stuff...
3. As for your (somewhat confusing) point about lowest sale price going first, in this event I believe a RNG assigns the sale when people are tied, or it might go in first listed to last out, not too sure. But unless there is an extreme glut of items, you should be able to sell for something... -
First PvPEC event is coming, going to be on a Wednesday...going to be lots of fun, still figuring out prizes to give out. Probably going to be some inf or stuff.

Then the day after I go to the bin and find out my wife has taken them out and either slotted them in one of her toons or sold one of the key pool C's to fund one of her many alts........
This sounds eerily familiar. I share storage bins with a close friend...I generally do the earning these days but sometimes he does too. Inevitably, one of us will impulse slot without telling each other, leading to bemused looks and endless frustration...

Spend it all on purples or a pvp build, then start over again.

Quote:This is going to happen before GR, so no worries there.Really anytime... But in reality I am sure weekends would work for more people there. Unless you just worried about a select few and trying to accommodate for the few.
But I say try something every night and see what days get most people to it.
Especially since GR coming out. school getting ready to start for some next month. -

Answer the following quiz:
I think the City of Heroes Market is broken because:
i)Items are too expensive.
ii)Items are too scarce.
iii)I cannot afford the items.
If your answer is i), then you should sell your drops and perhaps even a scarce drop to recoup that amount and use it on other items.
If your answer is ii), then you should try to produce the item yourself, or find a palatable alternative (Frankenslotting, other sets) that may help you along.
If your answer is iii), then sell drops and craft and sell drops until you achieve your goal. Play at 50 and generate more income.
The thing to remember is, the IO system is a carrot for you, for me, for others. If you got all your stuff right away then you'd get bored and go play another game...I know "get to 50" sounds cold and not everyone will get there, but even at mid levels you can make some nice influence through the market and go from there.
Remember, again, most activities ingame are surmountable through Single Origin Enhancements. Your desire for items doesn't change this. In any MMO, there will be some kind of gear grind and you'll get the gear through playing/raiding/exchanges, etc. -
Quote:Rad/Sonic or Ill/Rad could probably do a good job.Okay, Bots and Traps seems to be the choice on the Villain's side. But what about Heroes? I don't have 20 million influence to invest (I'm basically starting from the ground up) and would prefer to play Hero side. I've been told that Radiation/Sonic is probably the cheapest build to go with Hero side. Yea? Nay?
Again, thanks.
On the topic of the Bat/tarps, if you want until August 17 you can roll one on Praetoria and exit in Paragon, pretty sure...so that may be an option. -
