Quote:also, yeah, let's have a big party on the 21st, with cake and invitations and everything!I'm sorry about the unusual delay in getting back to you. We've been extremely busy as of late and it has affected our response time. Thank you for providing those characters names.
I have corrected this by making the following INF adjustments:
*Doctor Love - 1,999,999,998 INF
*Mant - 999,999,999 INF
You will find these changes effective the next time you access the game.
maybe a base tour or something. -
Quote:Which is why I'm in favor of the 'like' system of ratings. But we can't know, because you can rate an arc without playing it, and most people who think an arc sucks don't have the stones to step out of the safe zone of anonymous star ratings and actually say so. Of course, since the author of the arc you just tore apart can easily 1-star your arc as revenge, I can't entirely blame them. Even if they do stand behind their low rating and send a comment, nobody but the author will ever see it, or see why they rated the way they did. If I do a search for "Malta" and find an arc that somebody 1-starred because they hate Malta....their opinion of the arc is irrelevant to me, but I don't know that.
Taking it a step further, I'd like to see an Amazon-style system of user reviews appended to the arc, identified by global handle. I'm usually able to get an accurate sense of whether or not I'll like a book by reading what other people enjoyed or didn't enjoy about a title. -
Quote:here ya go.If my reasoning is off though, then Wendy's question stands: Why do some people feel it's so important that we remove influence from the game?

Quote:Gamers as a population don't need "the forums" to tell them what's strong and what's weak. An ATs forum reputation springs directly from performance, not vice versa. To generalize wildly, doms used to suck and nobody played them. They got flack on the forums because they had some very real problems. Changes were made, and now they're a reasonably popular AT. I had an ice/cold dom back in the old days that I liked fine- that didn't make the AT or the set 'good' in any objective way, I just wasn't especially bothered by its obvious shortcomings. I liked my EA brute the same way. I had fun with it while realizing it was not a strong performer. The boards have effectively killed Energy Aura, merely by hearsay.
EA's got a couple of structural problems created by the evolution of the game since it was released.
One, stealth. So what, a few million inf or a few evenings running tip missions and any other brute gets the same utility. I don't have an EA brute any more, but all of my brutes have Stealth IOs of some flavor for judicious stealthing.
Two, the value of end management is depreciated by the IO system and to a lesser extent Inherent Stamina. Having a couple of 'big' powers dedicated to endurance is of much less use in a game where EVERYONE gets to 'skip' stamina and take other stuff.
The playerbase's lack of excitement for EA is totally understandable. If they want defense they go SR. The things that once differentiated EA aren't as valuable as they used to be. -
I think every SG base should be powered by an inf burning furnace.
Wait...what was the topic again? -
Quote:I took a stone/EA brute to the 40s during the early days of CoV and enjoyed the ride (of course, stone had some really nice synergy going for it).Good luck convincing some it's not "unplayable" - EM/EA was my first brute to 50, not long after COV came out. I enjoyed it, survived reasonably well, but try telling that to people here. (I still survive pretty well. *shrug* Don't run +4/x8, but I don't run that on anything.)
I'm not saying it's unplayable, I'm saying it's weak and needs an update.
When there is no compelling reason to take a set and many reasons to choose something else, that set could use some work. -
really good points Chase, stuff I knew but hadn't applied to the current discussion. I tend to think of big corporations as being mostly alike, but clearly Apple's customer base and business model would give them far greater leverage than NC when it came down to negotiating rates.
-
got around to actually playing the Trapdoor mission last night.
My fire blaster popped some reds and a big purple, walked up to him and had him whimpering for mommy in no time.
*shrug*
I can see how the structure of the mission would work against those who can't put up big orange numbers, but as noted there are a variety of tools available to the inveterate soloist that would mostly neuter its difficulty.
On to the loved & loathed Honoree mission tonight. -
here's some inspirational listening (and my original motivation for this financial ritual) from XTC:

I really miss your 4chan remix of Perfect Pain's avatar avatar, Slax.

Quote:It is, and I do. I play 'single player' 99.9% of the time I'm logged on.The simple fact is that this is an MMO... Massively Multi-Player Online Game - if it was a Massively Single Player game you'd maybe have a point.
The reality is that lots of people like to solo. Maybe at some point in the distant past the "multi player" in the genre's acronym referred to teaming, but currently it means little more than "there are lots of other people sharing the game world, who you can choose to interact with, or not."
Quote:The basic premise is that it's a team game and if your schedule doesn't fit that then it sucks to be you.
it was conceived, marketed and sold and has been maintained for many years as a 'solo friendly' alternative to the 'forced teaming' model of a prior generation.
There's a reason such a minute portion of the content actually requires a team.
Quote:As for your point that it's more players beat a tighter community - that's highly debatable:
I'm not sure why you're in such a hissy in the first place.
My original post noted the comedy of anyone whining about needing to get some help in a game where nearly everything is eminently soloable. -
was fooling around with mids and cooked up a melee-capped AoE build:

Quote:huh, which previous pack delivered an equal amount of quality idle emotes? It's not really a matter of "haggling" with NCSoft. It's more a matter of comparing what we got in earlier packs versus the Party Pack. In comparison I'd have to agree that the Party Pack was really only "half-a-pack" in relative terms so they really should have only charged us half the price. Nothing too picky about that price point I should think.
Did I miss something?
I mean I really like the Magic pack juggle emotes, but that's one animation with different balls.
The party pack is the first of its kind, rating its 'value' against previous packs is an apples and oranges deal. -

Quote:they wouldn't need to wipe anything with a decent GUI that had some meaningful sorting features.Remember how people would whine about all the good names being taken and suggest the devs free up names from inactive accounts and the devs said no? They don't want to risk alienating returning players with that. I'm guessing that same thiking would apply here.

Quote:with as much poverty crying as we see on these forums, it always amazes me how hard it is to GIVE AWAY influence.
I have a standing offer up on my SG web site to give out money to whoever posts in my thread there. Posted a month ago; so far only one person has taken me up on it.
I regularly tell new/returning players that are suffering 'sticker shock' to PM me their global for free monies, I've only ever had one person take me up on it.
I have better luck just handing it out in the newbie zones. -
Everyone gets better with practice, keep trying.
Quote:I am now wrong, in your opinion because we need inf sinks? Then you back that up with a way that it can be side-stepped so as to NOT be an inf sink? Wow, problem solved! /sarcasm 0
Your suggestion eliminates one of the few sinks we have.
That's a bad idea.
Quote:I already have "all the junk", I'm just trying to keep it from evaporating for no other reason than just cuz/"inf sink that aren't inf sinks"!!!
Don't want to make the effort? That's your decision.
The functionality exists.
Quote:So, how does anything of what you said fix this or make it go away?
If I were to suggest a change, I'd eliminate the ability to 'save' IOs at all.
Want a respec? That's cool....start over from scratch!
Quote:I'm not wrong when I say "it's a good idea" if it translates into happier players and less down time/metagame time. -
Dunno about the act itself, but I thought the book was pretty good.
-
I haven't noticed any difference.
I still get enough to delete the annoying ones without slowing my roll.
anyone who's having issues, just hit Dark Astoria and mow a few spawns, you'll have all the tips you can carry. -
Quote:I'm hoping my SOLSTICE BONFIRE will close the gap a bit. They may be more inclined to try to play "keep away" once we start
narrowing their cushion down the road a bit.
I'm planning on stripping all the inf off all my characters except for a few million to cover listing fees and starting the new year with a clean slate! -
no it isn't.
I mean, obviously you think it is, but oh well.
The game is in desperate need of inf sinks and IOs are one of the few we have.
Also, you can *already* keep your stuff via multiple respecs, it just takes extra effort.
Of course that little extra effort means that a lot of people just pull the REALLY good stuff when they respec and blow off the rest, which strikes me as a fine compromise. Want all the junk, okay but it's harder.
