  1. So far it has been pretty fun. It solos pretty well. I'm level 20 and I've frankenslotted with cheap IOs as much as possible. The primary can take sleep and Stun sets so I've used those for acc/recharge and popped the very cheap multi-strikes into blazing aura. Resist Damage sets at level 20 are dirt cheap so I've got multiple End/Res slotted into my shields and went with standard crafted IOs for Healing Flames and Hasten since I want all recharge in those powers.

I had no problem taking down Kurse and Nocturne.
  2. For my Plant/Psi/Fire dominator?

    ...191%

That extra 1% made all the difference.
  3. I concur with Chaos on the Regen/Recovery comments. You just don't need Regen on a DM. The best advice I can give you concerning Fire/Dark is to suggest you take the Cardiac alpha.

I've put together a build that uses all of the powers you wanted but improves on what it looked like you were shooting for. I didn't focus much on +hp or +regen as much, but considering your level of debuffs, soft control, and damage you won't miss it.

This build gets you to 45% S/L assuming you are running either Hover or CJ. I don't remember if those are mutually exclusive powers, but if you can run them both at the same time then you will have something like 48% S/L.

I noticed you were using PVP IOs and lots of LotGs. Based on that I determined that you wouldn't be opposed to using cheap purples so I've hooked you up with Gravitational Anchor and Absolute Amazement. The most expensive set in this build is the Kinetic Combat. I'll give you a hint: A-Merits are your friend :P With those extra few percent of recharge I've gotten you into Perma-Hasten territory. It should be a pretty fun build to play! I think I left 1 slot unused... find a good home for it. Anyway, here it is:

  4. A VEAT would fit that bill pretty well. I'm partial to the Huntsman build. Huntsman are unofficial hybrids that go Bane but mostly only use the secondary. Most of a Huntsman's attacks are from the Soldier tree.

I took build up and crowd control on my Huntsman because they are just too good to pass up. Huntsman can solo extemely well and can provide a huge amount of support, buffs, debuffs, and damage to any team. Just make sure you take TT: Maneuvers and the pool version of Maneuvers. I went full double leadership powers on mine. With that alone I am providing about 20% defense to everything to my whole team.
  5. I play on Freedom at the moment. I'm banking on using the Cardiac alpha slot for my likely endurance problems. I went with the Eradications because they provide extra endurance and the good enhancement value with only 3 slots. The extra E/NE defense is just gravy. I've actually started working this build around a little and came up with an alternative. Maybe it's better. Not sure.

I get better recovery and higher S/L/M defense numbers but I'm losing a slot from Consume. I'm not all that sure how much I'm going to be relying on that power. I also lose a couple slots from Fire Blast. Again, how much of an effect that will have on me is unknown.

  6. Siphon Insight is a good set for Fearsome Stare. It has good enhancement values and S/L defense at the 5 spot.
  7. I wanted to respond to this topic in length but I don't have time right now. I'll just pop in and say this. Lots of Brutes would have "massive" end usage and survivability problems against a +1/8 Council mission at level 50 on SOs. Or any level for that matter. Off the top of my head:

WP (you're ok if you can take the alpha)
    SD
SR (granted you don't need IOs to soft cap SR but it takes a ton of pool powers)
    Elec
Dark Armor (lots of energy type attacks with council and TONS of end usage)

So this issue isn't very exclusive to /FA. That level of difficulty was really only implemented to challenge players who did go out and build an IO based character. I'll go into detail later. Off to the comedy show!
  8. I've worked my way up to level 19 now and I'm having a blast so far. It reminds me of my Elec/ Stalker. ST damage is a little sad, but I love the animation and sound effects of Thunder Strike. Any Elec/Fire users out there with any advice for me going forward?
  9. Oh good to know! Thanks for the info Starchild and Eric.
  10. I notice that Cloaking Device, when toggled on, is giving something on the magnitude of 12% defense the way I have it slotted. According to Mid's it is providing me 5.7% defense. I'm guessing that it's around 12% when not suppressed and 5.7%(slotted) when it is. Is this correct?

Here's a build to think about. Maybe you get get some ideas from this. S/L soft-cap, perma hasten with Siphon Speed running. Edit: I should point out that I made this build with the Spiritual Alpha in mind.

    Fire/??

Traps all the way. Probably the best solo corr secondary out there. Great on teams, too.
  13. Guess my builds are perfect! *off to the game to make it*
  14. It's also important to note that while a Dark Miasma has one hell of a time making any to-hit debuffs actually worth a damn against an AV, straight up defense from something like FFG isn't going to be neutered. You -can- softcap a DM, but it's a lot easier on /Traps and clears up room for other stuff.

Also, Acid Mortar is superior to Tar Patch in that it can be stacked just as often, can tank for you a bit, and it can slot the -res proc from the defense debuff set. I think it can take some damage procs as well.

Poison Trap is much better at -regen than anything in DM. That's not to say DM can't debuff regen pretty well, but /Traps does it a lot better.
  15. Ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 I've been having a problem with alt-tabbing. When I alt-tab out of the game, then alt-tab or click back in the screen is always frozen or black. In order to get it back I have to alt-tab out and then back in again. This always fixes it. Also, I can interact with the game while the screen is frozen (click on things, move, do whatever) it's just the display itself that freezes.

This happens regardless of other programs I'm running, or even if I'm not running any other programs at all.

Edit: Problem solved. Updating my drivers fixed this issue. :/
  16. OK I've got a build made up. I'm very happy with my defense numbers. 41% to S/L/M. Pretty good. I've got some decent recharge in there as well. My only concern is endurance, really. Elec kinda sucks in that it doesn't have many spots for Kinetic Melee compared to other sets. I can't stomach taking Havok Punch over Jacob's Ladder.

I'm not quite getting the recharge bonuses I was hoping for. I made some sacrifices (took Decimation out of Fire Blast, Posi's out of Fire Ball, and a LotG out of Veng) all in favor of more defense and better slotting in my ST attacks.

I'm still not even sure I want the Fire APP. I know it's more damage, but Mu might fit my theme better.

I'm wondering now what Alpha I should go for. It's down to between Cardiac and Spiritual. I'd really like to get my big hitters recharging as fast as possible, but that isn't gonna do me any good if I'm too drained to use them. I guess I'll just have to play the character and see which one I need more. Well, I'll probably just end up getting both and using them as the situation demands.

    Anyway, here's the build:

  17. So as my Claws/DA IO'ing adventure winds down to a close I find myself in the position to want to make a new character. My SS/Fire Brute is a huge let-down. End problems, Rage crash, and a general lack of will towards pouring tons of money into yet another SS toon leaves me looking for something else. My Spines/Elec is the next on my list but... he's kind of a one trick pony. On top of that, I don't really like the concept all that much.

I mulled over some Corr combos but I always run out of steam on buff/debuff characters, even when I get to play the offense role with it. I'll file that on the back burner.

So that led me back to the scrapper AT. I just can't put em down. They are way too much fun. I decided I wanted to play a purely elemental mage like Scrapper that slams his foes with the natural forces of the Earth.

I was a little apprehensive about going back to /FA after my Brute fiasco, but I think I'm prepared to put work into this one. I like the concept and I'm really excited about Fiery Embrace>Lightning Rod. That is gonna own so much face!

I had considered /Shield, but that's just so overdone. Both in general, and personally. I've taken /Shield twice to 50 and soft-capped them both. Fire gives me more damage and fits my theme a lot more appropriately.

So does anyone have any advice for builds? I was thinking lots of recharge and 30+ defense to S/L. As for ST damage I was planning on rounding it out with Mu Bolts or Fire Blast.

P.S. defense is useless here. A perma-dom Plant user is locking down every mob in every spawn every time. Nothing will be able to hit you. Seeds/Roots/Carrion=a spawn that can't attack you. The one that don't get confused will spend their time attacking the creeper vines. Since I'm a stealth user I can sneak up on every spawn and hit them with Seeds before they notice I'm there.

Spore Burst and Vines will be your "oh crap" buttons.
  19. I used to be of the camp that super high defense on FA was a waste of time due to no defense debuff protection. I sorta changed my mind a bit after thinking about it. As long as you can survive the alpha strike (which is what I found to be FAs biggest weakness) you should be ok. Since FA has the ability to kill things really really fast, all you need to do is live long enough to kill them before your defense erodes.

The whole mantra for FA is "kill them before they kill you." Defense is pretty much the best bet. Recharge doesn't help you a great deal because you should be banking on your alpha strike to kill everything but bosses and maybe LTs.

Ideally you should jump in and use Burn+whatever AoEs you have. This will kill minions and LTs for the most part. Heal back whatever damage you took and finish off whatever is left. High S/L defense makes the "jumping in" part a lot more viable.

    Alpha Mids'

It is actively being worked on and should be released soon.
  21. Kin is awesome. That said, I hate playing it. Way too busy. Way too much clicking. I can enjoy it on a solo controller like a Fire/Kin, but when I'm on a team I'm always feeling pressured to keep all the buffs up and running all the time.
  22. My current planned build is pretty awesome end-wise. 2 perf. shifter procs fire off constantly. Stuck in a lot of recovery and the Cardiac Alpha and the end issues are melting away.

This is what I'm working with if anyone is interested:

  23. It seems like the current manifestation of the Dev team is all about full steam ahead. I hope they don't forget about this.
  24. If anything, this thread is convincing me to go the distance with my DA's quest to hit 45% S/L. Right now I have about 35% and the same to E/NE and I already have a hard time getting killed.
