  1. Here's some information that is totally factual!

I just walked through the Save Longbow POWs mission from Leventara on 0/8 on a Bots/Time on nothing but SOs with some of the iPowers running such as T4 Cardiac and T3 Reactive. I was able to totally dominate this mission with extraordinary ease. My bots had almost 40% defense and the huge amount of slows and debuffs set the mobs up like bowling pins that they knocked down happily.

Even without the iPowers I could have easily accomplished this mission at this difficulty. They simply made it go faster.

My typical strategy was to target the mentalist and open with time crawl followed by time stop. I would then jump right into the middle of the pack to hit enemies with Time's Juncture, then I'd lay down a Distortion Field and hit the TAoE -def -res power.

At this point if my Bots hadn't already starting shooting I'd command them to attack something (because I have so much defense I at times wouldn't even take a hit, which meant my Bots wouldn't react with the BG mode enabled).

So I think /time works extremely well with MMs. Better than /Dark? Better than /Traps? I dunno. All I know is I was practically unstoppable in this scenario. Not being able to buff my Bots recharge is a bummer, but it's still worth having Chrono Shift for my own powers.
  2. I'm mulling over going Soul or Power mastery. Soul has true Power Boost, but the gimped version of Soul Drain. Outside of that you get Dark Embrace, a bad pet, and a ST hold which could stack nicely with the holds in /Time.

Go power and you get Soul Drain and Power Boost rolled into 1 power, Power Build up, a similar resistance shield and a God mode power.

    - The +effects portion of Power Build Up is the same as Power Boost, but you also get +68% damage, the same amount of +dam you'd get out of a fully saturated Soul Drain. Granted, it doesn't last as long, but it's guaranteed to always work, it doesn't have to hit 10 targets to get the full benefit, and you don't need to get in to melee to use it.

    - You'd only need to have PBU recharging fast enough to be ready every time Farsight is up. They have the same 240s recharge so that's pretty much guaranteed as long as you use them simultaneously. The goal would be to make that perma. Something I believe with /Time would be possible since you get Chrono Shift and can take Hasten for +125 recharge and that's before any slots or set bonuses.

    - Edit: nevermind. Force of Nature not effected by Burnout. Still, FoN would still be great when it's up :/
  3. I wouldn't re-do the entire build. I'd just carry a bunch of break-frees and use them proactively when you know you're fighting a mezzer.

    Fire/Dark/Soul

This is going to be an extremely good combo.

It's gonna have great AoE damage, great ST damage, a great damage boosting power in Soul Drain, full end refill in Dark Consumption, amazing blapping power, and if you go Soul Mastery you'll get a full boss level stun when you stack Dark Pit with Oppressive Gloom.

It also seems like it could be an easy set to get the soft-cap on S/L and ranged damage.

This may be my I21 character of choice. I've been looking to get into blasters and I've been wanting to make a DM scrapper or brute and this may make an excellent compromise.
  5. I don't know what you're personal definition of acceptable accuracy is, but even with Targeting Drone, you need accuracy in your attacks. Go fight enemies that are +2 or higher. Let alone +4.

As to your original question, I believe if you want to do the most damage in the shortest amount of time you should go make a Fire/Fire blaster or check out the second link in my sig.

Ignite is such a great power but yes you need to immobilize foes. No, AVs will probably still run. It has like a mag 50 fear in it if I remember, but it does insane damage for the cost. Without buffs, I think it cranks over 500 damage by itself every time you use it, and you can keep firing other attacks while it is doing that 500+ damage.

3 rech, 3 dam, and you are set. Grab Web Envelope from Black Scorpion.

Just to let you know, the ENTIRE SET was rebalanced around Ignite a couple of years ago. Look it up.
I think you're overselling Ignite's damage a bit. It does 278 base damage and that's only assuming you can manage to keep an enemy inside of it for 10 full seconds. It has been my experience that there are better things I can be doing with my endurance and cast time than use ignite on the many AR corrs i have played. I still keep it around for the few instances where I'm fighting a non-mobile enemy, such as the computer on the ITF or an AV that doesn't run around too much. The cast time changes they did a while back only helped the situation slightly.

As to the point of more AoE being better, I find it to be the opposite. On a corr I often have other things I keep myself busy with. Whether that be setting up traps or casting debuffs. The set already has a couple of long animating powers that take up a comparatively huge chunk of time, and I'd hesitate to call it a good "AoE" attack since the radius is so tiny that you'd be lucky to get more than 3 enemies stuck in it, especially after aggro has been established and all of the mobs are either running around or getting knocked around by your team.

When I tried the venerable webnade - ignite combo my experience was this:

    Cast Webnade
    Cast Ignite
Teammates Shield Charge, Footstomp, Fireball, and nuke the enemies.

Ignite does a fraction of what it's capable of and I contributed almost nothing.

And of course if you open with Full Auto and Flamethrower, or some debuff and Full Auto everything is going to be dead from that + whatever your team is doing. That's just my personal experience with the power.

Now if you're solo'ing and have the luxury of being able to play at your own pace then I'm sure there are instances where you can find a way to make Ignite a useful tool.
  7. Ignite is barely worth it with an immobilize. Definitely not worth it without one.
  8. Dark may run into a situation where you're hitting enemies that are resistant to debuffs but those times are extremely rare throughout the vast majority of the 1-50 game. Dark can safely lay down control from range, debuff from range and it has fluffy. Glorious fluffy. You can keep pretty much anything at the to-hit floor.

Traps can do all of these things as well, it's just different in it's application. Ultimately I would suggest playing whatever you feel more comfortable with. I think dark is much safer in normal content and traps is a bit more effective but it forces you to put up with long animation times, being in melee all the time, and you risk having your FFG and Acid mortar destroyed. It's also been my experience that Acid Mortar tends to set off some kind of flee flag on foes. You can hit em with it once and they'll run around the map for 40 minutes like madmen. You also have to be aware of what your stupid FFG is doing at any given time.

It's also imperative that you get some form of KB protection on a trapper. Nothing more annoying than to be KB'd while you're planting a poison trap, only to have it be placed where you land, 15 feet away from where you wanted it.

    Burnout

It seems pretty good. In the video I posted, towards the end I used it against a group of enemies that hadn't aggro'd on me. I'm not sure what my +dam situation was, but it did around 250 damage. It would be great for someone who doesn't have much AoE to begin with. I think maybe the recharge is a little too long for what you get out of it.

It should like like Mario's A jump from Super Mario World.

Correct. Just tested that while making my video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0oljtXO9B8

    Yeah it's that awesome.

    Uses for Burnout

I've made a Youtube video that I captured with Fraps from beta with my Elec/Fire/Pyre Scrapper using the combo I mentioned above. It's uploading now so I'll post the link when it goes live. I'll give you all a teaser. It's pretty nasty.

    Edit: OK here's the link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0oljtXO9B8

It's still processing as of this moment but when it's done you'll be able to watch it in full 1080p

    Burnout

Copied from my post in the Scrapper forum:

    Quote:
    Double Soul Drain
    Double Build Up
    Double Fiery Embrace?
God-Mode *Wait for it to wear off* -OC-God-Mode
    Build Up>FE>Burn>Lightning Rod>Spring Attack -OC- Build Up>FE>Burn>Lightning Rod>Fire Ball>Judgement (OMFG!)
Instant Healing *wait till it wears off* -OC- Instant Healing

These combos aren't something you can do all the time, but when you can do them it's gonna make you feel like a total badass. *not a scrapper* but I just thought of dropping two Acid Mortars and 2 Poison Traps and 2 Triage Beacons on my /traps

    Uses for Burnout

Seems like if alpha slotting and recharge enhancements work then the global bonus issue sounds more like a bug. Either that or it's setting a new precedent.

    Uses for Burnout

I was wondering if my fellow Scrapper lovers came up with any cool and unusual uses for Burnout. I haven't transferred any scraps over to Beta yet, but when I do I intend to try out Burnout on my FM/SD.

Obviously I will double up on Shield Charge, FSC and see how awesome that is. I might even throw Spring Attack. OC can be slotted for recharge so with just ED slotting you can get it down to 15 minutes. With some more +recharge slotting and spiritual you could easily get it to sub 10 minutes.

Off the top of my head I'm thinking:

    Double Soul Drain
    Double Build Up
    Double Fiery Embrace?
God-Mode *Wait for it to wear off* -OC-God-Mode
    Build Up>FE>Burn>Lightning Rod>Spring Attack -OC- Build Up>FE>Burn>Lightning Rod>Fire Ball>Judgement (OMFG!)

    So, Beam Rifle.

My Beamer got his level bump and I'm loving the animations and sound effects, but I'm not really loving the way it plays. Mainly I'm not clicking with the disintegration effect. I can see if I'm fighting a tough ST how it would be a great thing to have, but I can't seem to make it work in a x8 AoE situation. I just can't tell if it's spreading and the general scatter that you encounter makes it hard to really set anything up. It's clearly a set designed with ST damage in mind, so maybe that's why I'm not too in to it.

That said it's really fun to double Overcharge enemies with Burnout.
  17. I was just about to ask about this. My Beamer got a level bump and I enjoyed not having a crash. I also enjoyed double nuking with Burnout. I'm with Nihili. There's no reason the damage should be reduced. Maybe increase the recharge time a bit, but if you lower the damage you're just gonna piss off people either way.
  18. Hope you're happy with it!

I shouldn't post in these threads. They always make me want to run out and buy computer parts.
  19. Has Statesman fallen on hard times now that all of these super-incarnate-god-people are protecting the world and packed on a few lbs?
  20. ^ Happy Birthday.

Also, anyone else launch the beta client and see the new UI and background image? Chubby Statesman FTW?
  21. The latest build looks pretty good but I would make a few alterations.

First I would go for 4gb of ram over 8. Unless you are going to be using some extremely memory intensive programs or plan on some serious multi-tasking you really don't need more than 4 at the moment. If a time comes where you do feel like you need more you can buy some yourself and install it. Trust me when I tell you if you can tie velcro shoes you can install RAM

Second I would get rid of the aftermarket cooler and stick with the stock one. Save yourself 20 bucks. The stock cooler that comes with the 2500k is more than good enough for regular use. That's mostly due to the sandy bridge chip running cool and not consuming a very large amount of power. Unless you plan on seriously overclocking your CPU you absolutely don't need an aftermarket cooler.

Then if you want you can apply those savings towards a higher end video card. The 570 is a marginal improvement over the 560ti, but if you can stretch it to a 580 you'll have a top of the line card that can blow any current game out of the water and also last for at least a few more years. Then when it becomes too slow for the new stuff you can grab one for cheap and SLI it!

Of course the video card decision is up to you, but I think you can save money in the two things I suggested. The 560ti is my current video card and it's great.
  22. All this is making me want to do an alt build that is super pet heavy.
  23. That looks like an incredibly solid build to me. Can't really think of any way you could improve upon it since you already hit all the bullet points and everything else is pretty much personal preference.
  24. Gloom does cause redraw but I don't really mind it that much. It does decent damage and I like the set bonuses I'm getting out it. I feel like I have a good st chain when I need it and that's pretty much thanks to bayonet.
