I'm lvl 50 now, io's and all that, but a still faceplanting constantly due to mez/sleep type effects.

Fire/dark and i feel as though my build is decent, any options i have to reduce my constantly getting murdered by this stuff?

(current build capped s/l with toggles)

Clarion partial core...perma mez prot to everything at T3.

Posted

Short version: you aren't going to get mez protection

Unless you are running either the Force Field or Sonic Resonance secondary power-sets you'll find that Corruptors get no native anti-mez protections in their available power sets.

The mez resistances available in IO sets are also miniscule. No matter what you do you are not going to be able to build up any significant resistances to mez attacks.

Your best method to avoid damage is to not get hit.

Your best method of not getting hit as a Corruptor is to focus on Ranged Defense

So, basically, what you need to do is scrap your entire build, go back, and build it up with Ranged Defense, not smashing / lethal.

Once you have Ranged Softcap, you should be able to tar patch, darkest night, and then unload damage with relative impunity on most mobs that won't be able to get to you through Tar-Patch, and will have additional difficulty hitting you with the to-hit on Darkest Night.

only works in 50+ content.

Does nothing if he exemps down to run the other 95% of the game.

Remember; don't rely on incarnate powers to achieve character goals unless you only want to play less than 5% of the game's content.

hmm well a complete rebuild on my current ability to make inf (read, extremely poor as this is my only 50) is pretty ugly. i guess the most expensive pieces won't change TOO much (the 5x lotg, miracle, numinas, etc...) ehh... do you have a build you could post for me to work from?

I've come to the conclusion that trying to be uber in the low lvls is just not worth it. The low lvl content isn't so hard that you'd need to IO for it. I don't see why you shouldn't rely on Incarnate powers in this case.

It's up to everyone to decide that for themself obviously! Just my point of view :]

Given that Scorp Shield is like..21% smash/lethal def slotted...surely its better, and easier, to be building for s/l def, than ranged. When ranged will be starting at 0%..compared to the 21 s/l.
Not sure what your playstyle is..but you shouldnt be dying a heap on a fire dark. Carry break frees, use your debuffs. Let melees get their aggro. Mez mezzers before they get you.
Also agree with Akh...you just cant expect to be uber at lower levels. And again with the retarded 'no incarnate powers' comment Saist. Get over it would you. The fact the OP posted a build WITH IOs, pretty clearly shows he wants to be uber..at 50, WITH his IOs. Not to mention, half of the sets needed to get your magical ranged def, would not work at all teh low levels anyway. So, stop making your comment about Incarnates not including 95% of the game..when if he used your build, it wouldnt include the entire game either!

I guess ill go for the clarion partial (im still working on incarnate stuff) Well i faced a carnie tip mission at only 0 +4 with bosses and got decimated. Also a tip mish where tons of ritki funnel in for an ambush at the end and tons of those mezzer bastards and i just always seem to get caught by those effects and then crunched. Even with huge aoe and great recharge it just takes ONE of those effects to be the SupraDeth.

Both examples you give..the Mobs have some of teh most plentiful mex in the game! No wonder your dying. Hell, carnies especially, the master illus alone can mez a melee toon just with them and the summoned pets. If you did say..+0/4 council, you would pretty much breeze through it. And to make another point, a lot of those mezzers, the psi holds, then have NO positional defence. Then are tagged just psi, meaning if you had that silly ranged def build, they would hit you just as often.
Again though..from that example, it is your playstyle thats wrong. You cant do a carnie or rikti mission on a squishy and expect never to be mezzed...not gonna happen.

Most Mezs are Ranged or AoE, not Melee, nor Smashing, Nor Lethal.

Clarion would be the obvious option.

There are also status resistance buffs available in bases, as well as some temporary and accolade powers that may help. Resistance shortens the duration and isn't the same as protection.

Tips mobs are considerably tougher than most others.

Carnies can be brutal and hold through even the best mez protection. Tips DE are the other brutal ones, with the buffs they can get, they'll punch right through your debuffs. You may want to avoid Carnies and DE if at all possible, even if you have a full tray of candy.

Rikti sleeps are plentiful, but not nearly as bad as Carnies. If you carry 4 to 5 BFs per mission then Rikti and Below shouldn't be a problem. If you're level 32 and up, use fluffy as a decoy mez target.

Building for Ranged/AoE defense, and using hover, debuffs, and other tactics to avoid melee may get you better mileage.

There are two Dark/Sonic level 40+ builds in my archives that have (30 defense all + debuffs ~= softcapped), good SLE Resist, and endurance management powers. You could take either and adapt them to your needs. Just be aware they are endurance intensive and you'll need to get your accolades and you'll either need those endurance management powers, or incarnate powers, or have to selectively play or build for lower endurance consumption. Also, there are endurance empowerment buffs in bases, and endurance temporary powers, as well as teammates that can boost your endurance.

Lastly, if you still can't deal with mez, make a Trapper or Veat, for the Veat I'd recommend a Huntsman. Both are support and debuff oriented, but also have self status protection and can operate completely self sufficiently.

I carry almost all Breakfrees on builds like Fire/Dark, especially if your defense is that high.

Don't I know you???

The build I settled on for my Fire/Dark Corr was based on Ranged defence and so far I have been very happy with the results.

I do agree that with any char without mez prot; a row of breakfrees is a good plan.

ah thats good to know at least. I felt like an idiot. I did bring breakfreaks (6 of them. im sick of making them. Is there an auto bind to make breakfrees?) but it just could not overcome those carnies. Awful. I guess that's just part of the game . I can feel tough fighting a huge crowd of some mobs, and 1 boss and lt and a few carnies or lucky rikti can smoosh me. And yeah the rikti were not "as bad" as a the carnies, but the format (ambush) of mezzer bosses and lts hiding in the crowd of teleporting/flying/rushing aliens made them harder to deal with. normally i just open with fearsome, Tarpatch, fireball (knockdown purp) and rain and every explodes save for one boss, which burns down fast with blaze/fireblast. This was just a wake up call. Ouch.

You can make a macro or bind to combine inspirations:

/macro BF "inspcombine xxxx Break_Free$$inspcombine xxxx Break_Free"
where xxx is the type that combines into a BF. You'll have to use paragon wiki to look up all the names, and make 3 macros, one for each level of break free, and each type of other candy you want to combine into the BF.

You can make a macro or bind to target pesky bosses:

/macro Boss "targetcustomnext alive Chief"
/macro Pesky "targetcustomnext alive mesmerist"

Again, you'll have to look up the spelling, and typos likely abound.

Don't feel bad about the carnies. You can get a spawn of 3 or 4 bosses, and each boss can spawn 3 or 4 lts. Then all 20 of them can each cast a hold. If you're the only target ....

I wouldn't re-do the entire build. I'd just carry a bunch of break-frees and use them proactively when you know you're fighting a mezzer.

Here is a build that keeps your S/L softcap and adds E softcap, which I think will help you in certain situations like Rikti. It also includes full invis. which may help you in setting up your alpha.

I would include the chance for hold proc in your aoe immobilize as I have done here. (this build is set up for the next expansion when Mace powers can be selected at 35, 41, 44; instead of 41,44,47 as they are now). With the Spiritual Alpha, this build will give you perma Hasten.

Also, I would seriously consider setting it on 'no bosses' when doing Carnie tip missions solo! Hope this build helps a little.

this is my original build had 39.9 E and 46 s/l (i already own almost all the pieces minus one or two.)

End cost without the extra toggles is lower (1 even with 3.33 rec) so that i took musclature over cardiac and have no end issues. 85% global haste (155 with hasten) and 74 global accuracy
this one also includes hover for when i feel like hover blastering- the other build drops it for manuv/tactics.

This is the version i made tweaking the template you provided. it caps s/l/E but has end use of 1.38 with 3.32 rec ( i imagine this would require cardiac over musc... i've not tried it.) provides 81.5 global recharge (150% + with hasten) and the inclusion of tactics practically insures you never miss anything, ever (but high enough global accuracy merits you could turn this off if you needed i imagine. (global accuracy 59%)

Hate to say it... but I have to agree here. Lots of folks seem to think that Incarnate Powers solve everything... but just taking a look at the level ranges for the WSTs should alert folks to the issues with that way of thinking.

Tar Patch a corner.

Joust Darkest Night to pull them around the corner into the Tar Patch.

Let fluffy further debuff them and tank.

Jump out with Fearsome Stare.

Howling Twilight to stun all but bosses.

Kill them. Kill them to death without them able to hit you.

Here's a Dark Dark Defender farming with tactics.

What worked for me...

Hover + softcapped Range Defense, and high Melee/AOE (I don't recall if I had it softcapped or not).

That plus -tohit, and I didn't have the problems you seem to be having. Plus that gave me more Resists, as I took a resist shield instead of a +Defense toggle shield.

With all that, I hardly noticed getting mezzed at all, and that was with a lack of any KB resist IOs as well.

You have to look at it from the standpoint of what will be annoying on SFs/TFs because outside of that my guess is you are only doing level 50 content once you hit 50. At least blue side, I don't find that many TFs annoying for mezzes. I haven't done all of the red side ones to know. Outside of mezzes, Carnies at x4 is difficult for a number of reasons. Psy attacks, numerous pets including ones you can't hurt and you just have to wait out, and end drain can cause various builds issues. I didn't feel comfortable pushing the diff on my IOed Kat/sr until I got my T3 alpha for the level boost.
