if it 's playable until june 20 then it is playable until midnight tonight. after that you would have to resub.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok, so I don't actually get a full months worth of playing time when I purchase a month?
[/ QUOTE ]
In my experience, on the day my account was supposed to expire I was able to play for a few hours. I logged out for dinner, then I couldn't log back in because my account expired.
I'm quite certain its clocked to the minute. If you pay for an expired account June 20, at 6:05 P.M. for one month, then July 20 at 6:05 P.M. you account will expire. -
One of the best uses I have for Air Superiority when I solo, or on a team that has no holds or immobs is on those mission where you can't let a foe escape or you fail the mission.
I keep hitting them with Air Superiority to keep them on their butts and work other attacks in. Never failed such a mission on a char using Air Sup. yet.
I also use it to knock flier out of the sky. Something teams tend to find useful when no one else can fly.
I generally slot it with 2 Accuracy enhancements and nothing more. -

Hi guys,
I'm a new player to city of heroes and i like to know if the game is any good? can it keep me going for the next few years. I come from World of Warcraft and it was too much work to keep everything up to date, gear wise.
So tell me the pros and cons from the game and if you could suggest me the game.
Thanks
[/ QUOTE ]
Is the game any good?
Why even ask?
I'm not attacking you so relax. The point is: People are different. My sister bought CoH back when it first came out, and got me a copy. She also got my brother into playing. Many of her friends in CoH jumped to EQ2 and she followed them. They all hated it and switched to to WoW. They all loved it.
My brother tried Wow for about 6 months and returned back to CoH. Then he left CoH and tried Guild Wars. He stuck with GuildWars.
I've tried both Wow and guild wars. Couple months for each. I just couldn't get into either of them. Does that mean I would call them bad games? Nope. They must be good games because they have huge player bases and make a profit.
They just are not games suitable to my tastes. CoH does play differently from either of them, and I'm sure it plays differently from many other MMOs. The feel of the game is different.
There's a chance that this game is not for you. Yet, there is a chance this game is totally for you. You'd have to play to find out.
As others have pointed out in this thread, you most certainly do not have to get all the toys and such. I have several level 50 characters. Some I have totally IO'd out (IO = Invention Origin enhancements) with special Set Bonuses. Most I have not and I have no intention too.
However, you'll be pleased to know that if you should choose to IO Set Bonus a character out, you will not have to work on maintaining it. The stuff does not degrade or take damage and become less effective. Once you got them, you keep them as long as you want them.
There is no end game content. But then I've never seen anyone adequately explain just what is End Game Content, and why is it important? Personally, I can't imaging the relevance of 'End Game Content'
Somethings to keep in mind:
The servers are generally listed from least populated at the top and most populated at the bottom. By population I don't mean the number of Players who play there, but the number of players who are currently logged in. Freedom is very consistently the most populated server. Personally, too much population = lag fest. For others with great rigs this is so not a problem.
I find Infinity (fairly consistently the third most populated server) to be a decent trade off of population over lag.
Regarding AE, (a.k.a. Mission Architect) it is not all there is to the game. Even though most of your teaming experience just might seem that way. AE is a recent addition to the game which, much to the Devs dismay, turned into a major farm factory. The Devs are working on making changes to try and find a suitable balance between AE and the rest of the game.
Edit:
Oh, and one more thing, welcome to the game. I hope you enjoy it! -
In my personal experience, Top Prestige earners were the worst SGs to join. They were so prestige driven they'd invite anybody who'd join, pressure you into staying in SG mode, and never team with you. Many rarely even talked to you.
They seemed to already have their core group of friends to play with, and stuck to them almost exclusively. When they logged in, if their regular friends were not on, and you asked if they wanted to team, they'd offer up some excuse to not team and wait for their friends.
Many new recruits would attempt join and leave because the "Core SG members" had their exclusive cliques that only invited "outsiders" if it suited their PL needs.
Had that experience with 3 "top" prestige earners. I learned that Top Prestige SG pretty much does not mean good SG. I equate them with "sweatshops." Most don't care about their new recruits, pressure them to earn Prestige. Wont give them the time of day.
I found that SG who were less concerned about being the Top Prestige earner tended to be more player oriented and friendly. They still wanted players to earn prestige so they could put all the handy stuff into a base, but also seemed to try to include everyone in teaming.
This was my experience. I'm not saying it is true in every case of top prestige earners. I wouldn't know since I've not been a member of every top prestige earning SG. -
It'd be awesome if the critters watching TV would aggro if you stand in front of the TV and block it.

if you are able to work fury up to hover at a certain level or higher, then yer dealing just as much damage per landed hit, as you would with or without 3 slots of damage SOs.
[/ QUOTE ]
This assumption that the SOs became meaningless can be explained one of two ways that I can think of--
1) The Fury damage buff basically replaces the enhancement damage buff, and as you clear 100% +damage the SOs aren't relevant any more
[/ QUOTE ]
I did think something very much like this, initially, and this is what I wanted clarified. (And it is now clarified)
[ QUOTE ]
2) That Fury by itself takes you high enough on damage that you cap damage, and that since you've hit the cap, the SOs aren't relevant any more.
[/ QUOTE ]
Theres that phrase again 'damage cap.' I never thought this at all, because I was already aware that no single toon by themselves could hit the 'damage cap.' It takes a lil help in the form of buff and such from other toons
[ QUOTE ]
I'm guessing now that you were thinking the former?
In any case, it's additive. The Fury buff, the enhancement buff, the Build Up buff, all additive, and still short of the cap on Brutes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Phosphorescency, I'm thinking neither now. Not sure why so many folks are trying so hard to involve the damage cap in this. My question, which has been answered, really had absolutely nothing to do with the damage cap. I'm not sure how to make that any more clear.
The question has been answered, and I have echoed the answer two or three times in this thread to ensure I got it right.
I feel confident I got it now. -

Well, the damage cap was the only context your question really made sense to me, too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe your thinking of the cap on fury?
Cuz the Damage cap is way up there around 750% as I heard told. What I'm asking has nothing to do with the the damage cap. I just wanted to know how damage compared with and without damage enhancements and fury pretty much capped out. (or as close to capped as fury can get)
As answered, Capped Fury with Damage enhancements is greater damage then Capped Fury and no damage enhancements.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sorry if one of us isn't quite understanding here but.. why wouldn't the damage be higher?
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't see how you got to "...why wouldn't the damage be higher?" I didn't say it wouldn't, nor did anyone else.
[ QUOTE ]
Fury is a damage buff which can't reach your damage cap so more damage increases are good.. How does that have nothing to do with the damage cap?
[/ QUOTE ]
My question has nothing to do with the damage cap because I'm not asking if I can reach the damage cap with any combination of enhancements and Fury. (Because I know I can't)
I'm asking how damage compares with damage enhancements slotted into attack powers plus a full bar of fury, and no damage enhancements at all plus a full bar of fury.
Answer: (as stated in this thread) With enhancements and full bar of fury: more damage.
Without damage enhancements but still a full bar of fury: less damage.
No need to even mention the damage cap. -

Thanks for the respones.
So, as I understand it then, if I were to get fury to the mythological cap of an absolute full bar, and had no damage enhancements in my attacks, then I'm doing less damage then if I had 3 slots of damage SOs in my attacks plus the full bar of fury.
That's what I wanted to know. -
[ QUOTE ]
Fury caps out far below the Brute Damage cap.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks Chaos_Creator, but I'm not talking about the damage cap. -
So, can someone help me understand the effects of Fury on Damage output?
Im thinking that if you are able to work fury up to hover at a certain level or higher, then yer dealing just as much damage per landed hit, as you would with or without 3 slots of damage SOs. In other words, a higher level of fury can raise yer damage beyond the enhancement of SOs, which means, at that level, your SOs are no more effective then having no damage enhancements at all.
If this is the case, then the damage enhancements are useful during the moments of battle where you are working up the fury, but not after you hit that point. They would of course be useful in those cases where you just cant work up that fury for whatever reason.
So, if I have that right, then for a shield brute, using Against all Odds might not be getting any real +damage benefit from that power if their fury is high enough. They still get the foe damage, and the aggro aura built into it helps keep aggro on the brute to help get that fury bar filled.
Do I have that right? If not, can someone fill me in on how it works?
Thank you -

You kill a mob (or several) and the mobs stand there still going through their animations even though they have been reduced to 0 health (empty health bar).
Found one post on this. Seems that this bug has been around for a while. Any word on this being taken care of? It's not game-breaking, but it does look pretty ridiculous.
This is on both hero and villain side.

This is not a bug, its proof that you actually can kill (as apposed to arrest) and what you see are the ghostly remains of yer target, who, are unaware they died! -

Hello all,
I am Goat, one of the Leaders of the blue side Hero Dawn SG on Virtue. I have been playing the game for almost 5 years now, and running the Hero Dawn SG for about 1/2 that now.
So we all know the Staff at CoH has Master accounts and personal accounts to the game. From what I've seen the Master Accounts never join a SG, like BaB's or Ghost Falcon.
But what about personal accounts, they must join SG's here and there, and if so have they ever joined your SG, that you somehow found out later or they let is slip by mistake?
I was just wondering if any of the CoH staff had ever been in the Hero Dawn SG without my knowing about it.
Anyhow anyone with a good story about this topic plz post!
[/ QUOTE ]
There is no way of knowing. They are not allowed to let anyone know.
I would suspect that they might have an SG that all the Dev's belong to, and maybe also join other player SGs for some insight.
You might encounter players who insist they have a Dev in their SG. I have, and they made some interesting claims about things to come in the game regarding certain issues. Insisting they know cuz they have a Dev in their SG who told them so. Then later when the issue was release they were dead wrong.
'Course they were dead wrong about the Dev in their SG to begin with. The Devs will never let anyone know. They can't, and they wont. It would only lead to being mobbed by players with tons of questions, suggestions, and criticisms that would kill the Dev's play time. Not to mention the crap that players would insist are true cuz "We have a Dev in our SG!" -

I have never made any changes f6, f7, or f8. The only one I've ever changed was f9 to switch it from local to broadcast. (It never made sense to me why they would default the 'looking for team' call out to local since its something that would serve one better if it were in broadcast)
[/ QUOTE ]
If it defaulted to broadcast, then every trial account that hit that key would just get "You are not allowed to talk in this channel." or whatever the error message is.
That doesn't apply historically, but it does now.
[/ QUOTE ]
True, but it was defaulted to local since the beginning of the game, long before the Devs ever thought to limit Trial accounts. So, it still didn't make much sense.
But, I think it would be fine for a trial account to get that when they hit f7, a lil more incentive to upgrade to a full account. (a little)
But moot point. I got it fixed, I use text files to fix what the devs broke. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Even now when I make a new toon, and press 'f7' for the 'Ready' 'f6' for 'Run!' they're broken. They pop up with the actual code for the effect rather then the effect its self. And that's the default the devs put in there.
I have to then rebind these to take out the color codes so they are more easily read when I use them.
[/ QUOTE ] You can fix the "Ready!" messages by doing the following:
/unbind F6
/unbind F7
/unbind F8
/unbind F9
That will reset them back to the client defaults and display with the correct colors. The only time those keys should be broken if you bound them yourself or ever did a /bindload with those keys in the text file. (Keep in mind that making a new character will also load your default keybinds.txt file, which will also break those keys if you don't remove them from the file beforehand.)
[/ QUOTE ]

Anyway, the default code used by the devs to change text colors for f6, f7, and f8 just started to mess up out of the blue one day (can't remember exactly what day that was, but its been an issue release or two ago)
And where did my default keybinds.txt file come from? The default supplied from the game. I know I had to "Save Default" at some point, which I did. But only to make the change to that f9. The rest are the dev's default. -
[ QUOTE ]
I've been away from CoH for a long time, and I come back to find that they've redone the text system.
I remember how you used to have to <color red><bgcolor black> before your chat to make it the colors you wanted. The annoying thing was binding your enter key to talk correctly. The cool thing seemed to be that you could have macros use those colors too.
Now my macros work anymore. They actually say "<color red><bgcolor black>Hello." when they should be saying "Hello." with red font and a black background.
Is there still a way to bind/macro chat in different colors?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes there is a way, but personally, I wouldn't bother trying for a while.
They broke the system back an issue or two ago and its not quite fixed yet.

My point being, if you make your macro or keybinds today for color chat that works, (cuz you can do this and it will work) then come the day the devs fix what they broke, your macros and keybinds just might (and likely will) end up broken. -

so, today, my sg mate rolled 2 lotg7.5s one right after the other. and the other day another sg mate rolled a miracle +recovery and a lotg7.5. not one right after the other but within a short amount of time. so being the bitter person i normally am procede to complain about how i never get luck like that with random rolls. now, i'm not exagerating at all. but for the life of my time in this game, i have only ever recieved 1 lotg7.5 from a random roll. never have i recieved a numina proc or anything of real high relative value from a random roll, other than the previously stated of course. normally what i get is malaises illusions, devestation triples, ghost widow embraces, siphone insights (got 2 today)..... stuff like that.
when i do RSFs, i swear, 9 times out of 10 i get centrioles, or nucleos and microfiliments. almost never do i get the stuff that is in high demand like ribosomes, membranes and peroxsomes.
so my sg mate says to me, "maybe it's your firewall"...........
to which my reply was "no way. that does not happen. tell me you are kiddin, blah blah blah"....
so my questions are: is it true? will my firewall prevent me from recieving certain drops? and, if so, how can one remedy this?
any feedback on this would be so very much apprieciated.
[/ QUOTE ]
No maybe about it, it is NOT your router.
It is simply a matter of luck.
I've seen others get great rolls. I usually get crappy ones. But law of averages and whatnot, you keep at it and eventually you'll get something good.
Things to keep in mind are: How often do these lucky players play? How often do they play ticket earning content? How often do they select Gold or whatever rolls? How does that compare to you? -
I'm running a Bots/FF MM and have a similar experience, but I found that when I give my bots a specific GoTo command and park them directly in front of the vault door, then issue a "My Target" command they open fire on the door every time.

Have any of you tried this? I run all my games from one drive and its getting a tad full. My first inclination is to compress the drive, however that adds access time because each file has to be uncompressed at run time to be read. So before I compress the drive I'm just curious if anyone has run COH or other games in a compressed state and had any issues or not.
[/ QUOTE ]
If yer using Windows 2000, XP, Vista, or 7, dont compress the whole drive. Instead set it to compress only old files. Files you haven't accessed in a long time will be compressed and files you have used currently will not. This may create a bit more space, and it won't have a performance hit on access time for current files.
In my world, compressing an entire drive is pretty much considered a stone knife and bearskin approach to a technical problem. I never hear of anyone compressing a entire drive anymore. The performance hit is costly.
If at all possible.. new bigger drive. If not possible try compressing old files first before the whole drive.
Good luck. -
Doh!
Ok, i figured out what I was doing wrong. I was attempting to log into the Character copy tool with my master account and not my game account. (Apparently, I've had too many meals prepared in aluminum pots as a child)
Copy works fine. -
I've now tried it in both Firefox and Internet Explorer.
Only this time, I stopped to read the message I get.
Apparently, I have no characters on neither Infinity, nor Pinnacle. (The two servers I only ever really played on)
I tried to log a tech support ticket... guess which webpage fails to load?
mutter -
When I try to use it, I get as far as selecting a server. Every time I click the submit button, it just reloads the server selection screen.
This is a bit of a bummer because I really want to get my Bots/FF MM over there to test if the zero collision on the the seeker drones no longer snag the protector bots. -

That's all I'm trying to achieve. Fun for all.
[/ QUOTE ]
You can't.
Some people find different things fun. That's why WoW still has its player base and they didnt all abandone it to come here. Its why my sister left this game to play WoW, and my brother left this game to play Guild Wars. I'm still here. (We all are adults, we all tried all three of these games) We all have different tastes in fun. You can't define it to suit everyone.
No one can.
I had a great deal of fun leveling up my first Emp Defender who was all primary for the first 30 something levels. (Way way back in Issue two?)
I had a great deal of fun leveling up my first Invul/SS tank way back in i3. I could go on, but I have 21 level 50s which played out mostly content, very little PL, and plenty of fun.
Some I teamed, some I soloed. (or did both)
Yet I had fun with almost all of them.
(I really didnt like the Warshade, but not that there is anything inherently wrong with them, they just don't suit my needs in stimulating the "fun" centers of my brain. I got one to 50 mostly through spite!)
The point is... you can decide what is fun for YOU. You CAN'T decide what is fun for all others.
