  1. Faith is a good thing, Blind faith on the other hand....

Face it, the facts are simple, if everything the devs did was correct when they did it (through thier datamining, research, whatever) there would never have been any changes to powers, ED whould never have appeared and patches would be limited to new addition to the game.

The reality is devs do make mistakes, errors are made. Changes which look good on paper and work well in testing don’t do so well in actual use.

to say that the devs researched it so we should all accept it as the best thing available is naive. The past has proven that theory of faith doesn't always work out.

My main has constantly been tinkered with by the devs who find some problem here, or something not working as they thought it would, or closing some loophole in the ability that some player found.
Heck even my main villain had his power graphics changed. Why? because they wanted too. Not because of any real reason, guess inv just isn't evil enough unless its purple and black.

    Whatever.

Suggestions are just that. Suggestions. I think everyone has an opinion on this and I think the devs want to know or else they would have made the announcement and not allowed for a reply in it.
  2. that was me, but i just kinda threw numbers up with a 3 month period between. I agree 2 years should be the cut off. The 15 month was just for the example.
  3. I can understand the companys desire for wanting people to come back positron, but how long is enough is enough? there are people who haven't played in over 2 years! why keep thier names reserved? How long will the excuse they might come back and play be? will 10 years down the line people who haven't played for 10 more years still have thier names reserved because the "might" come back?

While I can agree with the stance to a point, there has to be a reasonable cutoff time. I personally think 2 years should be the abosolute limit on that. (but thats my opinion)

And I may be wrong, but during the last purge, wasn't an announcement made about it as well as emails sent to past account owners?

If they still did nothing, I dont feel sorry for them.

I think current customers should have priority over past customers.

Are you out of your [censored] MIND!!!
Lv 50's should NEVER EVER be considered! It takes some peoople almost a year to hit lv50!
Didn't it used to be lv35 or 36 for cutoff?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Explain to me why someone who made a lv 50 named whatever. And never plays again why his name should be forever locked out of use?

And on a side note: I played casually since launch and had my first 50 in less than a year. and that was WITHOUT the number of PL missions that used to be around. I know people who made 50 in a week exploiting missions such as the old COT portals, Werewolf herding, mole machines not to mention those damg Winter Lords. So don't make the mistake in believeing all lv 50's were earned. a fair number of them were Powerleveled in alot shorter time than you would guess.
  5. Ok, I may be dense but I REALLY don’t get this policy.

1.) any moron who plays for an hour can get a character over 6. How many names do you actually think this will free up? Someone said all the 14-day trial accounts. Doubtful as probably most of them are also over 6 (I mean come on who cant get a character over 6 in 14 days). The number will be minimal at best.

2.) why does Cryptic and/or NCSoft feel they need to remain loyal to people who are no longer loyal to them? Seriously. The game has been going for 3 YEARS! If someone hasn’t played since the first year its doubtful they will ever come back. Yet you feel as if you need to protect the manes of players who might not have played for over 2 years. This make NO sense at all. Especially based on a game where everyone MUST have unique names. Its already frustrating to name a toon now, imagine how it will be in another years time as there is less and less to chose from.

I understand that you guys hold on to the sliver of hope that these players may come back someday down the line, but I am just a pessimist about it I guess.

I would suggest a sliding scale of some sort. Something akin to:
    Lv 1-6 – inactive account 3 months
Lv 7-14 inactive account 6 months
Lv 15-30 inactive account 9 month
Lv 30-40 inactive account 12 months
Lv 40-50 inactive account 15 months

Lets be realistic, a lot of Good names are locked into 50s which have accounts which have been inactive well over a year. Those are the ones that need to be freed up for people.
  6. i'm not sure about the argo thing, last night I was playing my Mastermind and entered a mission. As soon as I entered I was attacked by a nearby mob. Now this wouldn't normally phase me except I had Night Fall on to stealth myself. I exited before I died and rested up. then reentered the mission prepared for the mob, however this time they totally ignored me. The ONLY difference between the 2 entering was the first time I also had flight on and when I renentered I didn't.

Maybe flight now supresses stealth or something or causes agro.

another weird agro thing happened in Dark Astoia last night, I had my Emp defender stealthed with ourr group waiting on another team to arive to take on Adamanster. Somehow one of our team agroed the monster. The next thing is ia am DIRECTLY being attacked by the monster, even though I wasn't near him and I was stealthed doing nothing else.
  7. Yeah, but they also said a ways back that they wouldn't be doing anymore achive (x) level to unlock, and now its being said a lv 50 villian will unlock the nictus...

Seems what they say one month can dramaticly change the next week and so on.
  8. maybe he is saying invincibility doesn't hold aggro well.

I bet you if the Devs take away Gauntlet but still leave the Gauntlet icon on...no one would be able to tell that it's gone.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Wow. That's just woefully untrue. Tanks got a massive increase when they got punchvoke.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well I would never notice it but then again I solo mostly so my "Inherant" power is completely useless. I personally would like a power that had some effect in solo play instead of one that is only "maginally" usueful if i team.

[Here's another way of looking at it. Suppose Frostfire just randomly has an unlicensed handgun when he saw the robbery taking place. He goes in there and starts firing blindly all over the place because he has no idea how to properly use a firearm. In the process, he accidentally shoots and kills the shopkeeper. Should he get off easy then, despite his good intentions?

    [/ QUOTE ]

First off that could never happen, to have a handgun he would have to be a mastermind AT, second that would be a third powerset a big nono for any new hero/villian.

Shouldnt matter if this is a holiday or not....I7 has been long in the making and theyve been putting this off for way to long. They need to get in gear and get it on LIVE ASAP. Some of us are tired of waiting and others are trying to make their vacation times around it and cant when they keep putting it off. Come on guys....lets get it moving already.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Broken != putting it off. If stuff doesn't work yet, it won't do anyone any good by rushing things.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No doubt. But if you don't know when something is going to be released, don't say "It'll be out this month".

Positron: "I7 to live is simply "this month"."

    [/ QUOTE ]
    GAH!!!!!!!!!!!
    *goes insane*

    You get people complaining that:
    a. ) something bugged
    b.) something isn't released yet
c.) the devs dont give times
d.) when the devs give times (based on the avaliable info at the moement) and are incorrect.

    Lightnen up.

Its stupid remarks like that which generally makes the devs reluctant to post ANYTHING.

Its coming, when? who knows, probably when its working right. Quit quoting Pos. I'm certain when he made that quote it was based on the current info they had at the time and thier estimated projections.

Things come up. With that mentailty, i hope you never complain if you get fired from being late to work. Its the same thing. @#$% happens.
  12. I guess I have 2 questions regarding the "hard wiring" of making patron powers permanent.

1.) how will this effect when hero to villian and vice versa happens?

Will the powers still be avalibale to a villian turned hero?

2.) How will epic power pools be handled for heroes who become villians? will they also get to chose patron powers? will they lose thier epic pools?

Seems kinda confusing when one set is permanet and the other isn't.

    Thanks

As far as I know - the devs have no plans for including an alternate method to get isolator if you did not get it in outbreak.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Good.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Good for post-I2, Bad for pre-I2 (since there was not an opertunity to get it then)
  14. Ok, not sure if it was suggested or not. Wasn't gonna read all the pages to find out.

This would be easier as a portal mission to a contamined earth. Get 100 contaminated and bing, get badge. no auto exempting or going back in time.

I agree I personally dont like the decision for pre-I2 not getting at least the option for it.

Counter arguements for those who want to argue. WL Halloween and V-Day badges are all special event badges. the Isolator is not and is a current feature in the game.

Badge hunters should get the same opertunities everyone one else had. With every badge that came out since then I had the opertunity to get it, except Isolator there was no opertunity for it. No I am not gonna recreate my character to get the badge.

Isolator doesn't do anything except give a badge, if it has no effect on gameplay and doesn't affect you. why would you even care to disagree?
  15. Are you just opening presents or using the inspirations?

I got my snowballs by using the inspiration i got from the presents. If your just opening boxes on roof tops I don't think (may be wrong) you will get it. You have to actually use the present inspiration

His one posted test involved using the broken version of Invincibility. He also completely glosses over the fact that when buffed, any AT can Tank, so what then is so special about Tanks?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The goal of the game is to make sure there isn't an ideal team composition. So, yes, a Scrapper, with buffs, can tank, but not as well as a Tanker. Why? Because 1) a Tanker starts with higher resistances/defenses and 2) he has Punchvoke and thus can manage the aggro better.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have to disagree with this states, having seen it in play MANY times. A scrapper is a better Tank with buffs.

I agree that a tank has a higher resistances/defenses to start with however, you seem to over look the damage a scrapper does which 1.) elimantes the foes quick and reduces the actual amount of damage he takes (thus provide a defense of sorts) and 2.) his damage amount agros him almost as well as punchvoke.
  17. [ QUOTE ]

This unfortunately would give olde and larger supergroups an unfair advantage over newer and smaller supergroups. I don't think that's what the developers want at all. I think they want everyone too be on an even level for superbases.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry but that isn't true. The currentl system favors new SG and lower level players as it is easier for them to gain prestige. That hardly seems like a "level" playing field.

I would much rather hear Cryptics explanation of our intended role and how they see us accomplishing it. Since we have obviously been wrong by their direction, I would really like for States and company to tell us what we are supposed to contribute to a team, and how that contribution stands out beyond all other AT's.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Tankers manage aggro better than any other Archetype. They also have the highest combination of hit points and defenses in the game. Their role is to take the brunt of a spawn's aggro just long enough in order for the rest of the team to be able to eliminate the mobs.

Should a skilled Tanker be able to corral EVERY mob? With a lot of skill, it should be possible - but it's certainly not required to be a good Tank. As long as the Tanker can hold onto aggro so that his teammates are facing less than they'd normally face (i.e. 3 minions), then the team has an advantage. Namely, each teammate can quickly eliminate his opposition...and then come to the Tanker's aid at the end.

I just played a Tanker with the following group (actually, at the request of a PM)...

    Inv/Fire tanker (32, SKed to 49)
Level 50 Elec/Elec Blaster (it was his mission, set on Rugged)
Level 32 Peacebringer (SKed to 48 or so).
    Level 48 MA/Inv scrapper
    Level 50 Fire/Kin controller
Level 35 Earth/empathy controller (SKed up to 48)
    Level 49 Energy/energy blaster

We faced the Carnival of Shadows. Typically, I'd start combat by Taunting any Strongmen in the spawn. I knew that I could handle their damage best. I'd usually catch some other minions and lts. I'd end up with a good 1/3 of the spawn focused on me, while the rest of my group disposed of the others. Whenever I saw a teammate enter the red, I'd either Taunt the mobs off them or hit the mobs to get their aggro.

End result? Well, no one was that familiar with their builds. The Controller was defeated by getting too close to another spawn. The Peacebringer carelessly tossed off attacks and ended up aggroing too much. After those two defeats, we settled down and functioned fine.

Admittedly, my own health dropped down to a 1/3 several times. I'd get a little concerned, but usually I had Dull Pain ready.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Here is my question, without Dull Pain, would you have been defeated? If so, does that mean now to be a Tank I have to have Dull Pain?

I'm not trying to be a jerk about this, but if you were at 1/3 a couple of times, was they other players doing thier job? if yes, than I personally see a issue with the tank not being able to do his without a healing buff of some kind.

I didn't want Dull Pain personally however when I respec'd I felt I had to take it. (which I have had to use on many occasions) The thought that my tanker build now focuses on two powers (dull pain and rage) makes me wonder about how I am better off in post-ed
  19. [ QUOTE ]

Why is this the conceptual solution? Wouldn't it make more sense to make MELEE attacks, regardless of source, immune from range debuffing?

There is no reason why Scrapper ranged attacks are immune to range debuffing

There is no reason why Blaster melee attacks are vulnerable to range debuffing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The reason is as he stated blasters, kelidens, defenders and controllers have options for ranged attacks that tankers and scrappers do not have.

It may not make "sense" but rarely does game balance make sense outside of game mechanics.

It would make sense that my tank with super strength should be able to pick up a car or any other thing and throw it as a ranged attack, the games however doesn't allow for it because of balance issues.

It has nothing to do with making sense.
  20. Since my primary was an Inv/SS tanker, I made my villian the evil mirror of him, So he is SS/Inv.

Tho I have no delusion who would win in a fight.
  21. [ QUOTE ]

Why would you want anything other than level 50's in your SG then?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No offense, by why have anyone over 35 in a SG? If you start recruiting at level one, they generate prestige at a fast rate and they dont have to choose if influence is more important than prestige, they get both. At higher levels they have to start choosing, prestige or influence. why penalize them for being a higher level?

If the ratio stayed the same from 1 to 50 I would have no problem with this, but as it stands currently 35 and up are pretty much getting the shaft.

    Changes to Rage

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
In fact Rage brings superstrength up to par with the other sets since it's substandard otherwise.

[/ QUOTE ]How is SS substandard?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I remember quite well and still do to this day as i still see it happen. SS cost a TON of end, and the damage output is realitivly low in comparison to the other powerset.

Yeah it gets a couple of heavy hitters later on and rage.

Big friggin whuptie do! To even be slightly effective playing the character I had to put slots in the damage of those attacks, slots that should have been in the primary defence of a tanker.
But it seems I tend to be in the general minority of people who actually play a tanker to play the game both individually and solo.
So to do damage I ended up taking more damage resulting in many deaths leveling. Then the devs decide to increase my inheritant taunt in my SS attacks. Now it even harder to solo cause now everyone is attracted after one small jab. More deaths.
I got rage, finally able to do modest damage without sacrificing more defencive ability. but it disorents so it has to be pretty much time, when it works i'm fine when it miscalculate and the fight takes longer... more deaths.

It seems like alot of poeple seem to be compaing rage to the hi end players while forgeting the numerous deaths that most tankers take getting to that high end.

NEWS FLASH! High level players ARE powerful, Thier powers are (mostly) MAX sloted and generally with SO or even haminod enhancers. If you had a lv 50 taker with nothing but training enhancements in all his slots, SOMEONE would complain he was better at something they cant do.

don't compare high end till you also factor in the cost to get there. If I hear another player complain about a AT they themselves never walked a level in I feel like I'm gonna explode.

Work you way to the high level, don't have anyone powerlevel you and then see if you feel that the powers you worked for are "too powerful"

It seems that alot of people want tanks to agro the room just by walking in and not be able to deal 1 point of damge so all the blasters/and scrappers can fight villians with no risk to themselves, god what a boring game that would be.

    Badge Progress

Then are we to assume that this event will not repeat next year?

I personally wouldn't mind a bar sticking around, would be less work I would have to do the following year if the same event was held.
  25. Wow...

I must say I'm slightly surprised by some of the posts I have read in this tread.

First we have someone making a generalized remark which seems to offend a quite a few people,

then we have a person of authority (Statesman) correcting the issue with information.

Then we have a bunch of people attempting to make the original poster feel small.

    Real mature guys.

I'm sure he read what statesman said, he didn't need you rubbing his nose in it. Doing that make the people who did it no better in attitude than the original poster.

Lets all try to be respectiful of others, ask yourself, "would I like this post I'm about to make, if the situation was reversed?"
