You might try copying your character to test or beta and do a couple of respecs...
I fine suggestion. I'll try that.

I'd like to hear more about this "transparent Snow Storm." That's the direction I would like to lean in myself, because I often play melee characters and certainly don't want to make their jobs any more difficult. I've got some prior experience with it from /Storm characters, but that was prior to powerset customization. What color have you found to be the most transparent?

It turns out TheDeepBlue has a much better build than I do, so I hope he doesn't mind me borrowing it. o.0

I see what you're saying. And I agree with you.

The build I'm using now is a lot "cleaner." It has about 30% smashing/lethal defense (mostly from Scorpion Shield), and 35% Global Recharge, but it doesn't have BFR at all, and I hadn't selected a PPP hold either (although, you know, I could.)

Ranged defense seems like a worthy goal. I think I could come up with something along those lines. (I'll post here.) That'll probably mean a new epic pool b/c Scorpion Shield is S/L/E defense. Is there any sense in going with Leviathan? I mean, theme is important, but I don't want to completely give up on effectiveness. I could use some input from you guys regarding what would have the greatest impact on overall effectiveness: Ranged Defense? Global Recharge? Something else? I like the idea of some kind of damage mitigation, because I don't really have that now.

Also, am I shooting myself in the foot by delaying Snow Storm for such a long time?
  3. Hey guys,

I've been thinking of respeccing into the build below. The one I'm using now is similar, but uses Maneuvers and Tactics instead of Frostwork and BFR. (It also uses Mace Mastery, but I haven't gotten anywhere near that level; I'm only about 26 or so.)

This is my first crack at either of these powersets. I've never been interested in /Cold before now because I'm not a huge fan of single-target buffs; now that the shields are AoE, the set has piqued my interest as an easier-to-manage adaptation of /Storm.

The build below is a bit of a Hodge-podge and, admittedly, prioritizes franken-slotting over set bonuses. It's rather different than my usual build, and I feel sure there is room for significant improvements.

I picked up Frostwork because it's a nice buff and I sometimes duo with my buddy who's a Shield Scrapper, and I figured this would help a lot. I also went with Leviathan Mastery partly because it's the only "ice-related" epic pool, and partly because I thought Hibernate would come in handy to survive the mad aggro this guy should be able to generate with all the rain powers and such. (I've never actually had Hibernate, so this is a bit speculative.)

Also, I could use some advice regarding Incarnate choices. I don't know much about those because I haven't explored that. That "mez protection" one sounds useful, but beyond that, I'm not sure.

(Also, this is intended as a level-up build, as I'm 26 as I mentioned. Teaming whenever possible.)

Any ideas? Am I way off base here?

This issue has made my Robotics MM basically unplayable. I hope they're at least looking into it. Robots and Mercs have no business in melee. If I wanted them there, I'd order them there myself. Instead, they're hijacked by the AI, and don't feel like fighting with them every second of every mission to keep them doing it.

Please devs...I'm beggin' ya. Let's at least keep an AI fix on the table. I know you're doing your best, and I know you listen to us and implement our suggestions if they coincide with the overall design direction. I'm surprised how many of my suggestions have ended up in the game. I'm asking that this one end up there too. I can be patient. Just throw us a bone, here. Tell us you're working on it. That's all I ask. However long it takes, I'm willing to wait. I want to play my character but I can't, I just can't. =/
  5. One thing I haven't seen anyone mention yet in this thread is the lack of synergy with secondary sets that are unable to stop or slow runners.

Without ranged attacks, the pets will have to chase everything, and this would be really chaotic with /Pain or /Thermal. You could argue that Ninjas already have to deal with this but at least they have some range, and the Jounin spam caltrops. Your only hope is an AoE immobilize from the Patron Pools.

It's also unclear how the beasts will attack fliers if your secondary is unable to bring them down. I'm hoping the primary will address this somehow; adding -Fly to one or more of the primary attacks (Edit: it looks like Call Hawk and Locusts do this already).

I was hoping to combine it with /pain, but it seems far from optimal at this point.

I still plan on making one, of course. I've wanted this for years. Planning the build already!!! o.0 =)

Been wondering this myself since it was announced. o.0

There's also a mission late in the game where you "rescue" him from Tyrant. Not sure how they're going to handle that!

Would be a shame to lose that mission. You can ghost it and let Statesman go to town on the mobs after Tyrant is down. The damage from his attacks is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!
  7. Vindication, at last!

I still like my set better, though. Demon Summoning was clearly meant to be paired with Thermal as a thematic match. Werewolves would have a thematic connection with Sonic Resonance (Werewolves, howling, sonic, etc etc).

Still, I'm amazed how many of my suggestions the devs have actually incorporated. Maybe I should weigh in on the Stalker changes! o.0
  8. Hey guys. Thanks for the responses.

I've taken your advice and changed the build to incorporate Aid Self. I've also reordered some of the later power picks and tried to prioritize them, taking the more important ones sooner and the "less important" ones later. (There may be some disagreement regarding importance, but I've ordered them in the way that I believe makes the most sense.)

    Better?

  9. I'm a fan of Hover/Fly for bubblers, but I suppose it's personal preference. As you know, as a Forcefielder, you're often the *least* protected member of the team, and hovering out of melee helps you avoid some of the more dangerous melee attacks and AoE's aimed at your compatriots on the ground.

I honestly can't recommend only slotting 26.5% damage into Ball Lightning; this is your best AoE attack. I realize it has the proc in it, but I slotted both BL and Short Circuit for damage, and that was on a Kin. I mention this because you described Defender damage as "anemic," (and rightly so). /Elec also lacks the traditional tier 3 single target blast, which doesn't make the problem any better.

Trouble with Force Field is that, as you know, it doesn't have any resistance debuffing to help you do more damage. You might consider Assault/Tactics as defenders get the best returns for those. And they help the entire team as opposed to you only.

You might not get much use out of Thunderous Blast b/c as you know it will shut off all your toggles, and you only do anemic Defender damage anyway, right? I'm not saying to replace it but I wouldn't expect it to be used often in real situations b/c you risk getting yourself killed.

I also don't see any damage enhancement in Thunder Strike. Admittedly Defenders have a terrible melee modifier, but TS is primarily a damage power; the other effects are secondary at best, and I can't see how you would be better served by enhancing those aspects over damage.

Honestly, if you want to control and drain the mobs, while still protecting the team, something like an Electric/Kin (for more damage and better drain) or Electric/FF (for better team defense) Controller could probably accomplish this better. (I can say this because we're not on the Defender forums; they're a feisty bunch.)

Just a few random thoughts. Hope that helps. o.0
  10. Hey guys. =D

So I'm finally giving Night Widow a try.

I avoided them for a long time because I thought Banes were cooler, and I also because I wasn't thrilled about the [at the time] vast disparity between them and Night Widows, the latter of which being clearly superior.

Without trying to open up that whole can of worms, I put together this little build here. It's got about 50% global recharge and is softcapped to melee and ranged without Mind Link. I wanted to get Smoke 'nade but couldn't see a way to get it without dropping something I considered important or taking it really late. Also, I took Leviathan Mastery for concept reasons, but am open to substitutions for powers and/or patrons.

Wanted to get some opinions on it to see if it looked like a good build. I have a Fortunata but he lacks the claw attacks, so I wanted to make sure I'm at least in the ballpark. This is for PvE with an emphasis on teaming. I'm not looking for the highest melee dps for soloing Rikti Pylons or anything like that. Just want something fun and powerful.

  11. Howdy folks,

I've recently come back to the game and noticed that Shield Charge and Spring Attack are both AoE knockdown attacks (as is Tremor). I had this idea of stringing these together for a massive AoE alpha move. (There's something to be said for 3 AoE knockdowns and 2 AoE stuns. I wish my old Dominator could do that!! o.0 )

What do you think, would it work?

Any other obvious problems with the build? If Spring Attack is a no-go, my plan was to drop it and Combat Jump and replace them with Taunt and Hurl Boulder.

If they can make a dog, they can make a wolf!

Plus, it would be a perfect compliment for Sonic Resonance. You know...wolves, howling...sonic? See? It fits!

The problem is almost as bad for melee pets. My Genin are using their shuriken attack in melee range and running themselves out of endurance. That was never a problem before. They used to hesitate a bit charging into melee, but once they were in "melee mode," they stayed that way until the fight was over.

I think they should roll back whatever change they made to Pet attack chains that is compelling ranged pets to use their melee attacks and melee pets to use their ranged ones. That way we'd only have to contend with the occasional Battle Bot "going Rambo" instead of all of them.
  14. Hey guys,

I respecced into Aid Other and things are going a lot smoother. I came up with a new build that incorporates both Photon Grenade and Repulsion Bomb. (Both are frankenslotted to boost stun but keep endurance usage down). Take a look:

    Better?

I don't think I've ever seen this attack used. Are there any other issues with the power that I should know? Would it still be worthwhile even without Photon Grenade?

I hadn't considered that. I'll see what I can do. I was trying to avoid the personal attacks, but perhaps it's worthwhile, no?
  16. Hey folks,

Just got back from a loooooong hiatus, and looking to optimize my revised build. I always liked the idea of Force Field, but my attempts always stalled out due to annoyance with constant re-bubbling. Now, since that's no longer an issue, here's my next go at it:

You can see it lacks Aid Other (but it does have Repair and Aid Self.) Will I regret not taking it? Any other general slotting choices I should be concerned about?

  17. What is the consensus on Grant Invis for Ninja/Time? Good? Helpful? Too much trouble?
  18. Slight Correction:

Castle says every AT gains at least 1 powerset. That means Masterminds will be getting a secondary. You might want to alter your charts.

The Mastermind assertions above make it sound like they aren't getting anything, which is untrue.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Willpower- They will be "jacks of all trades but masters of none" offering players a large sampling of defensive capabilities, not as powerful as specialized defenses, but with more range.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This has me a bit concerned.
  20. Oh hell.

I just got into the comics and was actually enjoying them. It's true, there was variation in the artwork style and writing, but I still liked them. I think the interest in the comic is there, but that interest does not translate into dollar signs. I doubt there was ever a profit to be had, and now they can no longer justify the expense involved. And that is truly unfortunate. This is a sad announcement.

I swear, if I could draw, I'd make my own dang comic. It would be a Vindicators comic. Everybody loves an underdog, and a team composed of "sidekicks" has an undeniable charm. It would be heavy on the Minx, with a dash of Infernal, peppered with Ms. Liberty and seasoned with Swan. Signature heroes may pop in every now and then, but generally only in an advisory role.

Now I just need someone to write/pencil/ink/color/produce/pay for it. Get to work, people!

The "blue sky" cross server database would be great but that will never happen.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Suppose they just combined two of the lesser populated servers? Surely that would be less of a headache than trying to collapse all of them?

Freedom is still my fave. Gotta love being able to get on an 8 man team any time, day or night. I've tried other servers; they're like ghost towns by comparison. Virtue isn't too far behind though.

This is tripping me up a bit.

You'd be surprised how many of our character names are trademarked as vacuum cleaners or whirlpools or sedans. Is my character a no-go if he shares a name with the honda in my driveway?
