Quote:I got lucky on seven different characters? Irony aside, that's not luck. That was how the mission worked for me 7 times. Perhaps the spawn rate is tied to difficulty or something. When something happens consistently 7 times in a row, I do NOT consider luck to be a factor in it's occurrence.Ah, see, this is why you think the mission is easy: you ACCIDENTALLY got quite LUCKY in your encounter. That explains quite a bit.
The first and third times I fought him he had the fast respawns. I nearly gave up on the first mission because my AR Blaster (!!) couldn't outdamage him and he was shooting me through oranges and purples. It only took two shots to kill me, too. Fortunately my friend logged on his tank. My Brute could not care less, because he couldn't get through my defenses and Fury meant my PBAoE seriously hurt him.
Fast respawns on a sub-optimal toon means it's just a mission of suck, period. Maybe you should keep things like that in mind when judging others inadequate in their playstyles. -
Quote:I myself have not had fast summoning of bifurcations. I beat on the real one, and when he summons I jump around and hit tab until I target him. Then I close in on the bifurcation and smash it flat. They don't have a lot of HP.Which of those options will help me outdamage the regeneration from his bifurcations?
I wouldn't suggest trying to outdamage him regen; maybe that's why you're so up in arms. You're trying to break through a concrete wall with your fists.
Quote:I agree that pulling him out of his room is not just a cheap, but a contradictory mechanic given how that's explained. The bifurcations are supposed to be Trapdoor resting WHILE he's fighting, so his bifurcations shouldn't need line of sight. They ARE him in a different location sitting down and resting.
Quote:That said, "outdamage his regen" is not a very much better mechanic, and if this has to be a complex gimmick fight, I'd have liked to see a complex gimmick solution to it, not a straight up stat tug of war.
Quote:All I'm saying is that "lrn2ply" is not a good excuse for lazy design.
Quote:How many and what type of characters have you tried it on? Not everyone has optimal characters with uber builds, so EBs of any stripe can cause a problem. My Fire Blaster burned him to the ground without much of an issue and my Brute walked all over him. My AR Blaster had hell of a time (I had to ask a friend to help me) and on my Energy Blaster I had to pull him into the hall in order to defeat him. Despite all the knockback of the Energy powers, I couldn't keep him in the lava and he could easily two-shot me.
Quote:The attitude you're displaying is, "Well, my Purpled-out DPS monster waltzed through the mission so I don't know why you noobs don't know how to play."
I posted this thread because, despite having a non-DPS monster array of 50's, I am still able to take on this mission with ease. People who have very fragile characters with very team-centric sets have soloed this mission. I am unable to pick out the problem and I was looking forward to seeing people complain that a bugged mechanic was fixed. Yes, this thread was flamebait, yes this thread was 'QQ more', and now I'm disappointed. I'm disappointed because everyone thinks I'm some elitist who wants everyone to learn to play. This is not the case.
I already posted on how to defeat Trapdoor. Let me rephrase what I said earlier in this thread:
If, after heeding advice from the forums, refusing to team, refusing to use insps, refusing to do anything other than try to kill him alone, I do not know what the problem you're having is and it is not a problem that can be solved by anyone other than yourself.
A much less 'lrn2play' statement, but AGAIN I say, what other conclusion can YOU arrive at? You can say 'bad mission', but other people have no trouble. You can say 'you're some purpled out elitist', but I'll post my build and prove you wrong. You can say 'he should be soloable', but he's part of an arc that is meant to test you. Get help, get insps, or suck it up. -
Quote:If you read the last line of my first post... you're right. I was expecting flames. I really don't see the issue. I can't find a way to make the mission more of an issue to me. Damage him, smash his bifurcation, damage him until he dies. It's baffling to be that it's a trouble-causing mission. If it is so easy to defeat Trapdoor without pulling him to the corridor then why are you so happy that they can no longer pull him to the corridor?
Weren't you arguing that it is good that they are making it harder? Isn't that what the title of this thread means? But if it is still easy, it can't be hard. Can't be both at the same time, y'know?
This thread is flame bait. You just want to sneer at people who struggle with this mission.
Me, I tend to agree with those that say having multiple ways of defeating him makes things more interesting. Just academic, I've already unlocked the Alpha slot on my 50s, and I'm not planning more any time soon.
Quote:That's a really longwinded way to say "L2P," and unfortunately just as rude.
I did beat him on some characters and lost on others. Unlike you, I tried it on a Force Field Defender. While I'm 100% positive someone is going to say "I did it on FF Defender with both hands tied behind my back while eating pizza and watching Dancing with the Stars" it's still not a sentiment we all need to hear. -
I love all the combos and despite being Lethal damage, DB hits like a truck.
-
I have yet to hear of problems soloing Trapdoor from any of my global friends. If he's a problem for you then I'm sorry, but I find him to be an easy target. I've soloed the mission on a Stone/EM Tanker, an AR/NRG Blaster, a Pistol/Kin Corr, a Dark/Dark Brute, a Demon/Dark MM, and a BS/Regen Scrapper. No problems. My FF/NRG Defender buddy had no problem, my Ice/Elec Blaster buddy had no problem, and my Emp/Psi Defender buddy had no problem.
It's not hard. If you have trouble finding his bifurcations, snag a jetpack temp power and just fly around. Hit tab. You'll find them.
If it's still impossible with kiting and flying and knocking him in the lava and holding the bifurcations, I think the problem isn't the mission (I hate to say that but... that's the only other conclusion I can come to). -
Quote:I have a BS/Regen Scrapper who did it too. No issues. So far I've soloed this on the following (with +1/x3+ settings): Dark/Dark Brute, Pistol/Kin Corr, BS/Regen Scrapper, Fire/Fire Corr, Demon/Dark MM, Stone/EM Tank, AR/NRG Blaster.Erm... my DB/WP scrapper couldn't beat him without lava'ing him, because Trapdoor would regen to full in the time it took for me to *FIND* his bifurcation halfway across the room (often behind an obstacle), move to it, and then actually kill it. And most of the time he would have popped another bifurcation before I could get back to him to start damaging him again.
So no, he's not hard to kill cheaply, but he's still nearly impossible to solo if you're fighting him "straight", as far as I can tell. -

Quote:What amazing sarcasm.YES!
... Like drawing someone away from the source of their regenerative abilities to defeat them, rather than risking ourselves by taking down the clones while getting hit by attacks! Or punting him into the lava and pinning him there with knockbacks. That's thinking about things! None of this crazy just running around shooting everything and trying to wear down enemies, that's just pointless, stupid and boring.
Seriously, he's not hard to kill. And besides, if the Devs changed it, I'm sure it wasn't WAI. -
According to the test server patch notes, Trapdoor is now going to 'mix up' where his bifurcations spawn. He also cannot be dragged out of sight of them.
I welcome this change. Tons of other posters have taken to whining and weeping about how hard it is for them to kill him even when they've been given instructions.
I say, THANK YOU DEVS! I want harder things to do, more complex tasks! Smashing apart +1/x8 is fun for so long; make us think about what we have to do to get stronger.
That said, let the whining, flaming, and ragequitting begin! -
Quote:He is NOT HARD TO KILL.
- Trapdoor can no longer be dragged out of range of his Bifurcations.
Thanks for making it harder, Devs!
There are still ways to kill him, and it's still easy. Hold his Bifurcations, lava him, or just KILL the bifurcations like you're SUPPOSED to. Jeez, you people are lazy. I've done this mission on squishies and smashies alike and have had no problem. -

Brainwave- cone Moderate DMG
Mental Breakdown- Extreme DMG ST attack
Mental Armor
--
Mind Over Body- S/L/Psi
Brain Static- PBAoE DMG Aura
Self Awareness- Elemental/Energy Defense
Indomitable Will- Psi Defense/Mez Protection
Drain Psyche- Much weaker version, boosts recovery and heals per enemy
Like A Steel Trap- Self +Res (Psi, -Perception, -ToHit)
Quick Thinking- 20% Run/Fly/Recharge Bonus
Mind Over Matter- Fiery Embrace power, but with Psi DMG
Out of Body Experience- Same as LMT listed -
There's always the Abandon option.
Abandon, relog, run a paper mish, try again. Works for me. I've had the low-con issue before and that's what I did. Worked fine. -
I find myself using PS-QS-SB-BB-QS-CS.
YMMV. -
Quote:... do you have any use for Rocket Boots? I figure you deserve something for smashing St0ner's pride to pieces. :PThanks man, but don't get me wrong ; he might value his pride to be worth under 12 billion inf, but I value getting a good laugh at the expense of someone calling me stupid and ridiculous when I feel it is uncalled for (well, I can be stupid and ridiculous sometimes
) to be worth over 12 billion inf.

Snagged one from Twitter!
First EVER free serial snag!

I love how lots of min-max players use the term 'overkill damage' in this game. It's basically when you use, say, Knockout Blow to kill a Minion with 10% health left. It's frowned upon to use overkill damage and I've seen people whining that they can't make an 'efficient attack chain without overkill damage.'
You know what? Screw all of that, if Mr. Minion is bleeding, shaking and trying to shoot me through the haze of blood loss and dizziness, I'm going to Knockout Blow his **** through the ceiling. Why?
BECAUSE IT LOOKS AWESOME. -
My personal pick would be either Dark (for the defense synergy and speed) and Electricity (teleport attack, lots of AoE).
-
Quote:If it makes you feel better I'll send you something. As was expected by many, nothing has showed up in my email box. I've glanced through the connected list on the boards and saw him on for several hours since I posted the video, so it's not just that he hasn't been around either.
Seems like St0ner's word is worth less than some pretend money in a video game.?
EDIT: Also, this thread should be immortalized somehow. Put it in your sig that he owes you 12 billion. Hell, make it even worse and make him pay in PvP IO's. xD -
Quote:Foot Stomp won't activate this proc unless the attack hits an enemy.
1. I don't think it requires contact with an enemy to trigger, just for the toggle to be active. Similarly, even with a power like Footstomp, I would assume it only matters that the power was activated, not how many targets were in the radius of the attack. Can someone clarify that? -
I like beating up Desdemona. No matter what I set my difficulty to I still stomp her flat.
Also, the character I do that with is a Demon himself. Pwn't. -
Quote:Thunderstrike and Lightning Rod do knockdown, not knockback.well. general rule of thumb with stone armor: take pool power teleport.
Also, Electricity does have knockback in Thunderstrike, Lightning Clap, and Lightning Rod.
Quote:Now, as to which power-set... well, depends on what you want to do.
Speaking for myself I've taken stone's to 50 with the mace and dark power-sets. So I can speak for both of those being good options. Mace has a to-hit bonus and some good mob damage. Dark is lower on the mob damage, but can wrack up the damage boost through Soul-Drain. -
Don't make this game into WoW.
Thanks.
