At no point do you have to fight players.
Was about to write the same.

Else someone could say if it's a badge, it's badge content and you shouldn't prevent me from experiencing my content even it's in a PvP zone. Yes, ridiculous, I know (and maybe not a perfect example, but I hope you see my point).

No one missed that point. Some even tried to explain that this is the main reason why PvP IOs are so expensive (low supply, high demand, people who can afford to pay any price up to the pricecap which is currently at 2 Bn).

Huh? (Superior) Knowledge about how to utilize IOs limited to the PvP community only? Seems I started playing CoH after that time, because I can't remember that this was the case ever.

Do you have an issue with catgirls?

Btw, it was said that people don't need purple/PvP IOs for PvE, which is 100% true. It was also stated, that purples are often NOT the best choice when it comes to min/maxing your toon which is also absolut correct. No one ever said the people do not WANT those IO sets for whatever reasons these people have.

PvPers for most part just because devs fail at balancing pvp in this game but i am not gonna argue about this thema. Fact is with SOed toon you won't come far in pvp enviroment. Now here is the problem, since IOs are rare and amount of pvpers is actually also small one could think, that there would be enough IOs for so lil pvpers.
If I get you right, your main issue is that you (and/or other people) can't afford a competitive PvP build due to the high prices. There are other solutions to that dilemma. For example you could suggest, that the devs add the option for a secondary (or tertiary - since the devs already did such a thing) build on each character, that is for PvP alone and includes the option of adding any IO of choice via drop down menu and automatically switches back to the (main) PvE build when you leave the PvP zone. That way PvP would be more about skill and less about influence/infamy.
  3. Hrmf... seems I need to be more thorough before I say something next time.
Umbral is right, of course. At least I learned something I wasn't aware of. I didn't know, that the global bonus from uniques (and other IOs?) was affected by other enhancements slotted into the same power (and considering the fixed value in the description I'm not so sure it's intentional).
  4. It's not about running from a fight or being afraid of a villain (no matter the level). Some people just don't like to PvP and actively avoid it. And if the person from the other side follows you around and tries to harass you ... like you did with that tank ... they just leave and do something they have fun with.
  5. Remove the Numina unique from Physical Perfection and put it in Fast Healing together with a Numina:Heal it's +12% regen at no cost.

If you have the cash, swap Doctored Wounds for Panacea ... that improves your recharge, regen, recovery and hp. Since you have 6 times the +10% regen bonus then, you can remove the LotG: Defense from MoG and redistribute that slot (which you could do anyway, imho).

I would swap the standard EndMod IOs in QR and PP for a third IO from the Performance Shifter set and sacrifice some recovery (not that much) to add some more hp.
  6. Myriad

    Would You Buy...

I wouldn't, even though I have my own base, so I'm among the few who could use it.

And while it's always nice to get more stuff I'd prefer to see a fundamental change to bases first (i.e. introducing player housing, so everyone can use the base building feature) plus a revamp of the existing base items (i.e. adding a bottom side, make items stackable, etc.) and most importantly a fixed and modernized base editor (i.e. include a chat window, a vertical placement slider, etc.).
  7. Myriad

    Set bonuses?

    You are quite correct, DrMike2000.

Seems I have too many old builds in my Mids folder as I picked the wrong (=not final) one.
I should have noticed immediately, that something was amiss. That I didn't is a bit embarrassing.

Edited my former post to include the correct values.
  8. Never tried Energy Torrent on a Scrapper. The description says knockback and seems identical to Energy Blast/Energy Torrent so I assumed it would behave as described.

I would still drop it, even if it does knockdown. You could take Maneuvers instead which would increase your S/L defense to 40% when slotted with 3 LotG. Optimize your slotting and you won't have to worry about alpha strikes ever again (well, almost never).

However, this game is about fun and not max defense. So if you like Torrent, keep it and have fun with it. That's what's important.
  9. Myriad

    Set bonuses?

With my Storm/Energy I aim for
    1 - ranged defense
    2 - regen/hp (no self heal)
    3 - recharge and recovery

In my current build I have 46.3% ranged defense (and 29.4% to melee and AoE which is enough if you add Hurricane); 426% global regen / 150% HP; 3.68s recovery and 45% global recharge.

I included two sample builds in my Storm/Energy guide. Both are slotted for extreme defense values. Check them out. Maybe it helps to give you some new ideas.
  10. I don't see the advantage of putting the procs into Integration instead of FH.

However, I would swap the Reg.Tissue IOs in Health for Miracle:Heal and a Miracle:Heal/*
This would increase your regen rate, your recovery rate and your max hit points.
  11. I disagree on swapping the Oblitaration sets for Eradication + Scirocco. If you do that you'll loose 11.25% defense to Melee and 5.64% to S/L. Not a good idea imho.

You should drop Energy Torrent, though. That power makes no sense for a DB/WP (it just knockbacks targets away from you, lowering the regen from RttC and making your primary AoE attacks less effective plus it doesn't do much damage). And with the 4 extra slots to redistribute you could really achieve something.

Also you might consider to drop the BotZ:KB protection from Super Speed. Your AoE defense is weak anyway. I think you would gain more from adding more defense to S/L and Melee, for example by going for a full set of Titanium Coating in Mind over Body or Tough or by adding 4 Kinetic Combat IOs to Boxing.

    Nice one.
    Gave me a chuckle.
  13. The best single target attack chain seems to be BF - AS - SS - AS to me. However, the +recharge needed is hard to get and currently I don't see a way to do it without sacrificing AoE and/or defense.

Btw, even with BF-AS-SS-AS fully slotted (including both -res procs) the dps wasn't enough to bring a monster down (tried it on Eochai in PI during the Halloween event... with a Shivan it was easy).

I'm using the BF - Attack Vitals combo on my DB/WP and that's enough to solo (most) AVs and Pylons (my Pylon time is slightly over 10 minutes, didn't build her for max damage, though).

Can't really say much about AoE chains, except give anecdotal input.
I'm typically using BF - SS - Sweep (my SS is slotted with the -res proc), which seems to be very good. Plus the AoE knockdown in Sweep adds some mitigation that's sometimes useful (i.e. double RWZ challenge with multiple AM buffs on the bosses).
  14. To the people who prefer to end the vet reward system (or make it annual at some point) because they can't catch up otherwise or feel that they're always be behind:
What you are actually saying is, that you prefer to have NO vet rewards at all, if the alternative is that someone who is playing (and paying) longer can get something you have still to wait for. I'm glad that you are the minority.

And to those who seem to believe that the devs are out of ideas:
I haven't seen any hint at all that this might be the case. Just leave it to the devs. And if they really do need fresh ideas they just need to read through the forum and they'll find more than enough to create vet rewards for several years.
  15. Lets see...

My first L50 was Myriad, a Storm/Energy Defender. Originally I created her as Storm/Rad in Pre-Order despite having played her as Storm/Energy in CoH beta. I didn't like */Rad that much, so I rerolled here as Storm/Energy towards the end of the exclusive Pre-Order time. Myriad was also my badger and she's still around. I play her now and then.

Aska was a Fire/Kin Controller. After 36 painfully slow levels (this was long before containment) I finally had Fulcrum Shift slotted right at L37 and started having great fun with this toon. I had Imp Army ... err Fire Imps slotted for recharge and my fulcrum shifted imp army just shredded anything that stood in it's way. It was totally worth it to experience 32+ painful levels to have all the fun that came afterwards. Actually I think I had the most fun with this toon I ever had in this game.
Aska was deleted after the big nerfs to Fire Controllers.
Recently I rerolled Aska as a Fire/Rad (with a modernized costume) and started leveling her.

Ashea was next. She was a human form Peacebringer and ok to play. After the nerfs to Quantum Flight (which was my main travel power on this toon) and because of the annoying knockback in almost all of her powers I stopped playing her.

Myriad Blue was a Dark/Energy Defender. I created her with (the old school) Hami Raids in mind. Shortly after she hit L50 we had the pet power nerfs (no more multiple Dark Servants) and I lost interest in her. In retrospective I should have created her as a Dark/Dark Defender. Maybe she would be still around then.

Myriad Frost was a Ice / Energy Blaster. It was a pleasant experience to level her, but after she hit L50 I played her less and less till I finally shelved her.

Myriad Thorn was a Spines/Regen Scrapper. The great days of regen were already past. It was still a great character that I enjoyed very much. She got replaced by a Dual Blades / Willpower Scrapper, but that was much later.

Next was Myriad Dawn, an Illusion/Rad Controller. She was really awesome although the KB from Phantasm and sometime from Phantom Army irritated me now and then. In the end she got shelved when I decided to concentrate my playtime on fewer toons.

Myriad Blaze was a Fire/Fire Tank. She was my 3rd attempt on a fire/fire tank and this time I kept interest and made it to L50. I used her to farm Rikti in the Rikti Crash Zone (before it became RWZ) to earn prestige for my solo SG.

Myriad Flame was a Fire/Fire Blaster. She started great but towards the end I was getting bored with her. I shelved her the day I hit L50 with her.

Thira is an Empathy/Electric Defender. Originally I created her on my 2nd account just to be able to invite toons to my solo SG. When I was looking for a new challenge I decided to try her. It was never easier to find a team. She is still there, but on my now inactive 2nd account.

Shadowplay was a Claws/Dark Scrapper. I was surprised how well he cut through multiple opponents and he was fun to play. Maybe someday I roll a Claws/Dark again. Shadowplay was deleted when I closed my 2nd account (I didn't intend to play him again and wanted to give the name back to the playerbase).

Kryseis was originally created when Dual Blades / Willpower was introduced. She became my favorite character very fast. Much later she was rerolled after I realized that I had wasted too many respecs on minor changes (she gets another entry further down).

When VEATs were announced I decided I wanted to try them. But I never played red side much and my highest villain was a L21 Bots/Traps MM at that time. After some experiments I finally created Nalar, a Fire/Rad Corrupter. He's still around but I rarely play him anymore.

Krysara was a Night Widow and it was nice to play her. Especially on VEAT teams
She was shelved because I preferred Scrappers and because I don't like red side very much (for me it's just blue side painted red which gives a F- for immersion factor).

Myriad Blade was created after I decided that I wanted a Scrapper as my new main but couldn't decide what primary to pick. Broadsword was the only powerset I never really tried, so she became a Broadsword / Willpower scrapper (my Kat/Regen never made it to L50 so he's missing in this list and I never liked MA). I loved the Romolus sword, but BS is a bit slow and my attack chain seemed to be the same again and again and again. DB/WP just looked better to me.

So I rerolled Kryseis as a DB/WP Scrapper (again). I have to admit that I powerleveled her in AE this time, but I think that is forgivable because I already played DB/WP (and many other powersets) through 50 levels.

I deleted most of my L50s in preparation of leaving this game entirely (too many changes I didn't like plus a general feeling of being burnt out). However, I finally decided to stay a little longer (main reason is/was the announcement of Going Rogue) but also decided that I want to stay away from altitis as much as possible in the future (kept only 2 active and 2 inactive L50s).

My current project is a Fire/Rad/Fire Controller and my next project will be a Pistols/* Blaster.

  17. I haven't seen many shots of an intact Rikti mothership, guess they're rare.
So here are two from me:

  18. Myriad

    Hydra!

    This brings back some memories.
The Hydra Trial is one of the toughest challenges in the game (and totally worth running it), imho. Probably because it requires more coordination and teamplay than most other TFs/Trials. Master of Hydra Trial anyone?

Maybe it's time to run it again.
  19. I use it to power down fast (shut off all toggles with one click); it's perfect for Wentworths, because I don't have to worry about accidentally firing off one of my powers when I try to type a number; and I like it for roleplaying; btw, I think it looks good (on female toons).
  20. My 1st reason for the 2nd account was base building.
We have content in this game that's only available to SG leaders and I wanted to experience it. And to manage and build a solo SG, especially for inviting alts, you need a 2nd account.
After playing around with a more or less broken base editor for some time (I had a large base worth several million prestige, with floating 2nd levels and countless decorative items) I decided that the effort to build a nice base with the tools at hand wasn't worth the time spent.

    My 2nd reason was badging.
Some badges are soloable only with a 2nd account - like some PvP badges, for example. Others can be farmed with a 2nd account - like the Healing badges.
Since dayjobs, unsoloable badges (Pentad for example) and the way the change to AE and Epic badges was handled I lost interest in badging, though.

My 2nd account is inactive for some time now.

    Character Bios

Usually I don't start with a biography in mind. A lot of my toons get deleted before they hit the 20s anyway. However, sometimes I have a general idea that evolves as I level the character. By the time they hit L50 all my characters have a biography although I don't always write it down.

    Quote:
Has a good biography saved a character you otherwise weren't that thrilled with?
Considering the fact that I even deleted over a dozen L50 toons (among countless others who weren't L50) - most of them with complete biographies - that's a clear "no" here.

    Quote:
While I'm on the topic, anyone else notice the text window where you write your biography being buggy? I'll be at 1004 characters, go back and delete a comma and it'll jump to 1015 characters or some weird like that.It tend to make large character count jumps for minor changes that don't add characters at all (or certainly not 15 of them).
Yes, and I think it's very annoying.
  22. SAMPLE BUILD 2

This build goes for max overall defense. Ranged is capped at 53.7%, melee is capped at 45%, AoE is at 35%. Typed defense goes from 30% (Psi) up to 49.4% (Energy/Negative). Resistance is roughly at 25% vs. S/L, Energy and Fire/Cold. End consumption is a bit higher than in the above mentioned sample build, but you have Conserve Power. All in all this build should perform better than sample build 1.

  23. SAMPLE BUILD 1

[Note: The sample builds are added to give you some ideas how to create a powerful hero(ine) with high survivability. From my experience they should be playable as they are. However, you might want to customize the builds a bit, before you use them for your toons, to take your own playstyle into consideration (and maybe to save some influence .]

This is an extreme build. I wanted to show how high you could get ranged defense. 68.4% ranged defense is complete overkill, of course. However, the build should be very playable. 26.5% melee defense + 57% to hit debuff from Hurricane give nice survivability in melee as well. Damage is above average, especially with the build up proc in Tactics (it's only single target damage, though). End use vs. end recovery is balanced and you even get some regen. Some minor sacrifices in the debuff department are hardly noticeable.
