Actually I think the genre is MMOG...not MMORPG. Massively multiplayer online game, not necessarily Massively multiplayer online ROLEPLAYING game.
So roleplaying is actually not the focus of the genre. just to be clear.
[/ QUOTE ]
It says MMORPG right on the box, by the way, just to be clear.
[/ QUOTE ]
It also says it in the in the ad copy. I don't think there's any question that the game was designed and is marketed as an MMORPG, not just an MMOG.
[/ QUOTE ] Outside of silly arguments, it doesn't really matter if the game is an MMOG or MMORPG. It doesn't change anything. People can role play or not. Both playstyles are just as valid as the other no matter what you call the genre, or even what the developers intended.
[/ QUOTE ]
No one is saying that you can't do one or the other. I was just clarifying a mistaken statement, that City of - games are marketed as "MMOG", when that's not the case.
[/ QUOTE ] I udnerstand what you are saying, that statement wasn't directed at you or TonyV specifically, I was just throwing out my two cents. -
[ QUOTE ]
It seems, this discussion is pretty valid on most MMORPG forums.
[/ QUOTE ] No it's not.
Putting down other people's playstyle, whether they be a powerleveler, marketeer, roleplayer, casual, hardcore, etc makes you(general you) a tool. -

Why can't the auto sidekicking thing be removed?
If people want ot play higher level content normally they must be sidekicked properly, why should AE be any different? I see no benifit to auto-sidekicking, all it does it present a host of power leveling opportunities.
[/ QUOTE ] That would work for me. My perma 46 will start getting a lot of use again. -

Before implementing an idea to share inf and items across your characters, it has to be shown that sharing inf/items between characters is a good idea for this game.
[/ QUOTE ] Since it's already possible(with some hoops to jump through), I would like to know how it would be bad for the game.
Has me transfering influence/salvage/recipes/enhancements between my characters done harm to the game in any way? -
Also, if you're gonna blind invite someone, tell them what the damn plan is when they ask. Don't make the person wait two minutes to figure out what is going on.
-
[ QUOTE ]
It's never the blind invites that bother me, it's the people who send a tell and then immediately invite without waiting for a response. This seems to be a growing trend, with most of those doing it asking if I want to do AE.
[/ QUOTE ] I get those a lot when I'm messing around in WW. I just accept the invite, close my chat box, and continue doing whatever it was I was doing. -

I don't have any problem with an official planner, but it would have to be a lot better than Mid's(which is awesome), and use a different UI than our current level up/respec screen(which I don't like). -

Have any of you had a power combination that you just found to be so exciting, you didnt want to stop playing it? Something that was just so powerful, or maybe just so all around fun that you loved playing as it?
[/ QUOTE ] Yes.

Be surprised I actually HAVE been into the WoW forums and the steam forums (which a truly, truly terrible places the pair of them). You do learn to drown out the drivel though and just except that use the WoW forums (and those that post on the Steam Forums) are essentially the archetypal(sic) "Counterstrike Kiddies".
To be fair I have come to expect well, just plain more, from the City of Heroes community, it's your own fault people, your too friendly.
I admit it was probably the style of the post that did it, it was frankly rude, confrontrational and...well..whiney, I know that brings out the worst in people but at the time I was peeved about that quote from Avatea, I probably should have looked at the Dark Knight returns poster I have on my wall, taken a deep breath and gone "yes Joker, why am I being so serious about something that in the long run, really doesn't make a difference to me or the world..." it can be scary when you take your life advice from a psychotic clown but that line really does work when it comes to posting things on the internet...

You actually took the time to type a reply that made a lot of sense and actually helped me see the other side of the view point in a way that was easily understandable WITHOUT being sarcastic, rude or just plain not helping.

If you ever stepped foot in the WoW forums, you'd be torn to SHREDS. We're a LOT kinder and more jovial than even the nicest in that lot.
[/ QUOTE ]
Seriously... or the Penny-Arcade forums or the CTRL-ALT-DEL forums, or... well, any other forum, especially a "left-leaning" one. I'm afraid Mr_Mechano would be torn limb from limb.
The CoH forums is like the kindergarten of the net.
[/ QUOTE ] Gametrailers is pretty [censored] in that regard too. -

can i borrow a few billion? lol j/k
but wow, the most i have combined with 36 alts on freedom server is prolly 50 mill lol

Follow our advice and you'll be swimming in inf like Scrooge McDuck in no time at all.
=)
My wealthiest character started out with 50k in the bank and slots full of expired DO's and SO.s.
[/ QUOTE ] Maybe. I do all the things to make a ton of influence, but I spend it just as fast as I make it. I'm very rarely rich.
But in all fairness it only took me two and a half weeks to go from 2 million back up to around 400 million. I think I'm gonna try to actually hold out for a billion this time(we'll see if I can be that patient). -

It does, but the GameGuard rootkit -- ahem, "Anti-cheating measure" -- is something of a deal-breaker for me.
[/ QUOTE ]
Any particular reason? For the sake of curiosity.
[/ QUOTE ] As a general rule, I'm against invasive, overly restrictive software/hardware. That is the reason I didn't buy Spore, and I don't buy products from companies like Apple(when possible). -
[ QUOTE ]
And borrowing money (and paying interest on it) when you have an existing revenue stream to draw upon is generally a boneheaded business move.
[/ QUOTE ] WHAT!?!?!?! The newspaper industry did that for years and it's finally starting to work out for them! -
[ QUOTE ]
The Southern redneck is a stereotype for good reason, and especially once you get out of the large cities, there's no telling what kind of attitudes you'll find.
[/ QUOTE ] This is true(I live in the middle of Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex). But did yall know that the New England states have some of the most lax laws when it comes to marrying cousins, while the deep south is the most restrictive(generalizing). Just throwing that out there. -
You could try something like this:

Actually, I come here with a Southern Redneck attitude.
[/ QUOTE ] That isn't even close to how you come across. -
[ QUOTE ]
Even if you're half-joking here by calling people 'weird' or whatever, that's still quite arrogant. Or at least it comes off as arrogant. Aside from the content of the posts, it's also a tone people are gonna take offense to.
[/ QUOTE ] Actually, some of the comments made me think he is homophobic, arrogant never actually entered my mind. -

This reminds me of a story I heard someone tell me about in Everquest:
A girl in the guild was friends with everyone. She was a bit of a drama queen and a flirt. When she had an issue with her boyfriend she would confide in guild mates and such. Talk about her life as anyone casually does in a guild to those they are friends with. One day she decided to quit and told everybody they had a confession before they cancelled their sub, that they were actually a guy and they didn't feel right leaving without making it known who they really were. Needless to say, all the guys she had flirted with in the guild felt rather disgusted...
Roleplaying is one thing, passing yourself off as something you're not with the intent of deception is wrong imo.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, that's not cool. I had a friend who did that in EQ or an early MMO. He used to get gifted tons of stuff, he even had his GF do vent for him when needed.
Needless to say it didn't impress me at all.
If you RPing a toon thats one thing, but lying in person aint right
[/ QUOTE ] In all fairness, suckers don't deserve to keep their stuff. -

It's as bad as freaking out over clicking on glowies during the respec TF, this just doesn't die.
